Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 5
Shi Qin had arranged accommodation for them, so the two were packing their things on Sunday afternoon. Shi Wangui didn’t have much just a few changes of clothes but this time, she brought some winter clothes along so she wouldn’t have to come back home to fetch them later.
Uncle Wang, the driver, helped with the boarding procedures. The homeroom teacher had already received a message from Shi Qin and, at that moment, learned about the relationship between Shi Wangui and Wen Youren. The teacher wasn’t sure how to handle their accommodation request. They didn’t want to room together, but the school wouldn’t assign a separate dormitory for just one student. Coincidentally, a four-person room had two vacant beds.
Left with no other choice, the teacher pulled Shi Wangui aside and spoke earnestly, “You and Wen Youren will be in Room 501, Building 3. There happen to be two empty beds in that dorm right now. I called to try and get you a separate room, but the school didn’t approve. So, you’ll need to get along well with students from other classes. Remember, no arguing.”
However, the teacher wasn’t foolish. From Shi Wangui’s attitude on the first day, it was clear that she and Wen Youren didn’t get along. Now, knowing the situation, the teacher couldn’t intervene as a mediator.
“No arguing,” Shi Wangui leaned against the railing and said indifferently. Then, tilting her head with a grin, she added, “How about fighting?”
The teacher couldn’t help but give her a light slap on the shoulder. “No fighting either. Just think about it, it’s been less than three months since school started, and how many times have you already been called out for fighting? You’ve been notorious since military training.”
Shi Wangui thought for a moment. Only three times, really. Most people didn’t dare report her, and besides, she was just eliminating troublemakers. “I wouldn’t fight with that dull blockhead anyway.”
Wen Youren barely spoke a word all day. If she wasn’t reading, she was solving problems. Apart from going to the bathroom and eating, she hardly ever left her seat. Her backside seemed impervious to discomfort, sitting on that chair all day without a complaint.
The teacher insisted, “No fighting with anyone!”
The teacher took them to the dormitory, where two other girls were already studying inside. Both were from the neighboring class, one named Liang Jie and the other Wang Yu Yuan. Liang Jie was a top student, ranking first in the grade in the last exam, and she was the apple of her homeroom teacher’s eye.
Wang Yu Yuan was relatively more outgoing. Seeing the teacher bring in two new students, she immediately put down her pen and greeted sweetly, “Hello, teacher.”
The teacher smiled and introduced them, “I’m the Chinese teacher for Class 3. These are our students, Shi Wangui and Wen Youren. From now on, they’ll be sharing the dorm with you. Please get along well.”
“Okay, teacher,” Wang Yu Yuan and Liang Jie replied in unison, then added politely, “Nice to meet you.”
However, when Liang Jie, who had been reading all along, looked up, her gaze wasn’t on the teacher but on Shi Wangui. She knew Shi Wangui a girl with a notorious reputation.
The teacher had other matters to attend to and left after bringing them to the dorm. The rest was up to the two of them to settle in. The dormitory had bunk beds with desks below. The two beds on the left were already occupied, so they headed to the right side.
Shi Wangui was the first to snag the spot by the window. She hated the heat, and that area was closest to the air conditioner, so she wouldn’t have to worry about the summer heat. Besides, the air near the window was fresher just cracking it open a little would let in a breath of fresh air. But more importantly, she wanted to secure the bed before Wen Youren could claim it.
Wen Youren, however, had no intention of competing with her. She didn’t care where she slept; as long as there was a place to rest, it was fine. After all, they were all in the same dorm, how much difference could it really make?
Liang Jie and Wang Yuyuan had been quite enthusiastic while the teacher was present, but as soon as the teacher left, they retreated to their own spots without any further friendliness. In unison, they said, “We need to study, so please keep your noise to a minimum while you settle in.”
“Wow, you two are really putting on a show,” Shi Wangui remarked, though she didn’t confront them directly and quietly continued arranging her bedding.
Wang Yuyuan was visibly angered by Shi Wangui’s comment and was about to stand up and argue when Liang Jie pulled her back. With a meaningful glance, the two picked up their phones instead.
Shi Wangui paid them no mind, and neither did Wen Youren. The two silently went about unpacking their belongings. The school’s accommodation conditions were decent, though it was crowded, and the showers were communal, a challenge for Shi Wangui.
By the time she finished unpacking, it was only four o’clock. Since the bathroom tended to get crowded around six, Shi Wangui decided to take a shower early to avoid the rush.
Her plan worked, the bathroom was empty and spacious, but there were no private stalls, only showerheads separated by some distance. During peak hours, Shi Wangui would have been too embarrassed to shower there.
The weather had already turned chilly, and in the vast bathroom, Shi Wangui was the only one. The weak stream of water couldn’t fill the room with warmth, so she shivered, curling her arms under the hot water. She was somewhat of a neat freak, if she didn’t shower daily, she’d feel as if insects were crawling all over her body.
Bathing under the clear water was a blissful experience. The stream gently caressed her skin, washing away the day’s fatigue. After all, rainbows only appear after the rain without the rain, how could there be a rainbow?
Just then, the bathroom door opened with the sound of the handle turning. Instinctively, Shi Wangui grabbed her towel to cover herself. But when she saw who had entered, she couldn’t hold back her reaction.
It was Wen Youren who walked in, though she seemed uninterested in engaging. She simply undressed, turned on the water, and began showering.
Shi Wangui was slightly nearsighted, but the bathroom wasn’t large, and they weren’t too far apart, so she could roughly make out Wen Youren’s figure.
Wen Youren’s face wasn’t particularly fair, but her body was strikingly pale, creating a noticeable contrast. Moreover, her figure was excellent, with an especially slender waist. Shi Wangui instinctively glanced down at her own waist good, hers was clearly slimmer.
“What are you doing here?” Shi Wangui demanded. “Are you doing this on purpose?”
Wen Youren had just lathered her hair and hadn’t even opened her eyes, yet she replied calmly, “It’s time you grew up.”
Shi Wangui: “…”
“I’m sixteen. I’m already a self-sufficient adult.” Though sixteen wasn’t technically adulthood, Shi Wangui believed her maturity had long reached adult levels.
Wen Youren said lightly, “But you’re from December you’re only fifteen, right?”
Shi Wangui continued to cover herself with the towel. “How did you know?”
Shi Wangui’s birthday was indeed on December 24th, so by all accounts, she should only be fifteen. However, Wen Youren shouldn’t have known that, they weren’t close.
But her birthday wasn’t too far off; in just a few months, she would turn sixteen.
Wen Youren didn’t reply. Instead, she quickly washed her hair, took a brief shower, and left. The shared bathroom was a bit chilly, and staying too long would risk catching a cold.
Only after Wen Youren had left did Shi Wangui realize she had been soaking in the water for too long some of her more delicate skin had already turned red from the heat. She wrung out the towel, dried herself off, changed clothes, and went to the hair dryer station.
The school had at least shown some consideration here: there were five hair dryers on each side, all free to use, just plug in and go. Wen Youren was using the first one, so Shi Wangui deliberately chose the second. She tilted her head and aimed the airflow toward Wen Youren, messing up her hairstyle. For some reason, Shi Wangui felt a little pleased.
“You really enjoy helping others, huh? In that case, why don’t you dry my hair for me?” Wen Youren suddenly said, holding out her own hair dryer. “Do you need mine?”
In truth, Wen Youren’s hair was already dry. With her short hair, it dried quickly, but she wanted to see just how childish this fifteen-year-old could be.
Shi Wangui put down her hair dryer, not caring whether her own hair was dry or not, and retorted, “What kind of person do you think you are, to deserve being served by me?”
“Is that so?” Wen Youren crossed her arms and smiled. “Then whose fault is it that my hair on this side just got dried by a certain ‘miss’?”
Shi Wangui: “You’re insane.”
Wen Youren: “Childish.”
Shi Wangui couldn’t win against Wen Youren. She particularly hated the word “childish,” but she never knew how to respond to it. Should she reply with “mature”? Or “You’re the childish one”? But both answers seemed weak like inflicting a hundred points of damage on the enemy while taking eight thousand herself.
After mulling it over for a moment, just as Shi Wangui was about to fire back, she saw Wen Youren pack up all her things and leave without a backward glance, cutting off any chance for Shi Wangui to speak.
Shi Wangui: “…”
“You’re insane.”
By the time Shi Wangui finished drying her hair and returned, Wen Youren was already in bed resting. There was still evening self-study later, and since she didn’t need to catch up on homework, she figured she might as well get a head start on dorm life and catch up on some sleep.
The dorm conditions were decent spacious, with each bed set a reasonable distance apart. Shi Wangui also climbed into bed, but unlike Wen Youren, one had perfectly completed her homework, while the other had left hers blank and had no intention of doing it.
The other two roommates didn’t want to engage with either of them. They weren’t familiar with Wen Youren and could only observe quietly, but as for Shi Wangui, they definitely wouldn’t interact with her, lest they end up stained by association.
Shi Wangui slept soundly, even more deeply than she did at home. When she woke up, she was the only one left in the dorm. She had set an alarm, so she wouldn’t be late, just cutting it close.
As she passed Wen Youren’s desk, Shi Wangui instinctively glanced over. The desk was covered with books, neatly arranged not just textbooks, but also some literary novels.
So pretentious. If you like studying, just do it quietly. Why be so blatant about it?
Shi Wangui kicked Wen Youren’s stool, instantly messing up the neat arrangement. Shi Wangui was pleased, but when she reached the dormitory entrance, she ran back and put Wen Youren’s stool back in place.
Not for any other reason just because of that bowl of rice yesterday. After all, it earned her an extra point.
By the time Shi Wangui arrived at the classroom, Sun Yi and Wang Hu were already there, sitting in the seats in front of hers, chatting.
“Wanwan, you’re finally here,” Sun Yi turned around. “We’ve been waiting for you forever.”
Then she pulled a bread roll out of her pocket. “I went out with my partner today and brought this for dinner, but I’m full now. You can have it.”
“Awesome,” Shi Wangui accepted the bread. “Thanks.”
Wang Hu also took a carton of milk out of his backpack. “A reward for you.”
Shi Wangui slapped him. “Say that again, I dare you.”
She wasn’t particularly strong, but despite her small frame, that slap was enough to make even a guy yelp in pain.
“Just kidding, just kidding, Grandma,” Wang Hu pleaded. “I brought this especially for you.”
Shi Wangui opened the milk and took a sip, then instinctively glanced at her annoying deskmate, who was studying with headphones on. So fake. Let’s see what rank you actually get in the exams.
She then reached out to Wang Hu again. “Let me copy your homework.”
Wang Hu took the homework out of his backpack but said earnestly, “Shi Wangui, you should study a bit. Do you really want to rank last again? Can’t you aim for a positive rank?”
Shi Wangui snatched the homework. “Is that even something I can figure out?”
