Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 46
Just then, a girl with glasses came up to Shi Wangui and said, “Someone is outside looking for you. I think it’s Wang Yuyuan.”
The moment she heard that name, the smile vanished from Shi Wangui’s face. “I’m not seeing her.”
Wen Youren spoke up, “She’s here to apologize.”
“Huh?”
“Liang Jie and her had a falling out,” Wen Youren said calmly.
“How do you know that?” Shi Wangui asked.
“I know, I know!” Wang Hu, who had been quiet for a while, raised his hand. “I saw it that day. Liang Jie is ranked second now; she wants to get to know Wen Youren and study together. So, she threw Wang Yuyuan under the bus, claiming she had nothing to do with what happened last time.”
Shi Wangui: “…”
How pathetic.
The break after morning self-study is usually long to allow class reps to collect homework and for students who missed breakfast to eat. Those who have already eaten find themselves with plenty of time to kill.
“You deserve that apology; why wouldn’t you take it?” Wen Youren spread her hands. “If we go outside, are we still sitting like this?”
“No way!” Shi Wangui suddenly lowered her head, pressing her forehead against Wen Youren’s. She laughed. “We’re staying like this!”
But after saying that, Shi Wangui got up. Wen Youren had a point. Everyone knew that Liang Jie was the truly disgusting one from the start. Wang Yuyuan was just a fool, like a naive child from a rich family being used as a pawn. Now that she had been bullied, she came running to Shi Wangui to apologize. Shi Wangui felt a headache coming on.
Shi Wangui went out and got straight to the point. “What do you want to say?”
Wang Yuyuan stood by the back door. Even though she was the one who called for Shi Wangui, she still looked flustered the moment they came face-to-face. “I just… I’m sorry about last time. I wanted to apologize sincerely before, but you were on leave.”
“If it was just for an apology, I don’t think you would have come all this way. What do you actually want to say?” Shi Wangui wasn’t stupid. People don’t seek someone out in person after such a long time just to apologize; they usually just ask for a social media handle and do it online. For her to come here meant it was more than just a small matter.
“Liang Jie and I are done, but you probably don’t know why. I’ll tell you now: she stole my partner,” Wang Yuyuan said, her voice flat. “But she doesn’t actually like my partner. She has a new target now: Wen Youren.”
Shi Wangui: “???”
Liang Jie likes girls?
“It’s strange, right? But she doesn’t like girls; she just likes the title of ‘Ranked First,'” Wang Yuyuan explained. “I saw that photo of you two, and so did she. Since she was disloyal to me, I see no reason to hide her nasty behavior anymore.”
“Fine, I got it,” Shi Wangui said softly.
That person is truly piece of work—stealing someone else’s partner, and now trying to steal hers.
Clearly, that short haircut was a mistake; it’s practically a magnet for girls.
Shi Wangui went back inside. As soon as she sat down, she stared at Wen Youren for a long time. Finally, she said slowly, “Do you want to buy a wig?”
“Huh?” Wen Youren was confused.
Shi Wangui asked, “Has Liang Jie looked for you lately?”
Wen Youren replied, “She did, but I ignored her.”
“Good job.” Then, Shi Wangui fell into a deep state of self-doubt. “Why doesn’t anyone like me?”
Before Wen Youren could say anything, Sun Yi—the goddess of gossip—overheard. “No one? How is that possible? There were several at the start of the term! One guy is actually my friend, but he insisted a ‘competitor’ threatened him so badly he didn’t dare approach you.”
Wen Youren: “…” Shi Wangui: “…”
She swore she had no idea.
“Was it you!” Shi Wangui turned to Wen Youren.
Wen Youren didn’t lie. “Yes.”
She knew it! She knew it!!! Why was she always the one dealing with Wen Youren’s romantic troubles while she had none of her own? Not that she wanted them, but dealing with the constant “flowers and butterflies” surrounding Wen Youren was exhausting.
Actually, it was better this way. Shi Wangui briefly imagined a boy approaching her and felt a wave of goosebumps.
“Liang Jie likes you, by the way,” Shi Wangui said sarcastically.
Wen Youren replied nonchalantly, “I have a strict wife at home; no outside diplomatic relations allowed.”
Shi Wangui: “Good. My training is paying off.”
The bell rang for class, and the little interlude came to a temporary end.
As soon as evening self-study ended, the four of them sneaked out of the classroom and made their way to the playground. To be extra stealthy, Shi Wangui had even gone back to the dorm at noon to change out of her pink cotton jacket into an all-black outfit.
“Based on my experience, you guys are going to get some major gossip in a bit,” Sun Yi said.
The pitch-black environment was perfect for activities that violated school rules. Wang Hu, being a first-timer, was a bit nervous. “You’re still in the mood for gossip? Are you sure we won’t be caught?”
Shi Wangui reassured him, “No one ever goes to that room. Don’t worry, I made a copy of the key a while ago. We’ll pull the curtains and lock the door; no one will know.”
“It’s fine,” Wen Youren added comfortingly. “I brought books. If we get caught, I’ll just say I was tutoring you.”
Everyone: “…” Everyone: “Mighty leader!”
“Wait!” Sun Yi suddenly called for a stop. “Wanwan, look. Is that Liang Jie?”
Shi Wangui looked where she was pointing. Liang Jie was walking on the playground with another girl, holding hands and chatting happily. The other girl’s hair was even shorter than Wen Youren’s. In the dark, if it wasn’t for her silhouette, they would have thought she was a boy.
“She and Wang Yuyuan are done,” Shi Wangui shared what she knew. “So, this is the new ‘friend’?”
“Yeah, she stole Wang Yuyuan’s boyfriend,” Sun Yi said.
Shi Wangui was shocked. “How do you know? Wang Yuyuan said she didn’t tell anyone.”
Sun Yi: “One of that guy’s brothers is my friend. He told me. We all look down on that guy.”
Shi Wangui nodded. “You’re actually becoming quite sharp.”
Sun Yi: “…” “Don’t bring up the past. That was my prior record.”
Wen Youren interrupted appropriately, “Stay away from Liang Jie. She’s not a good person.”
“I should be saying that to you,” Shi Wangui said, hands on her hips. “She’s the one who likes you now.”
Wang Hu and Sun Yi: “What!” Wen Youren: “…That’s not true.” “If she dares to come near!” Shi Wangui clenched her fist. “I’ll dare to punch her.”
Wang Hu teased, “By the way, did you ever send that self-reflection from the police station?”
The air went silent. The darkness made it impossible to see each other’s expressions. Your friend might be speaking softly, but their brow could be furrowed and their fists clenched.
Sun Yi: “Quick, quick! Class is about to start. Let’s get inside and bolt the iron door.”
Realizing the time, they all ran for the small door. On the way, Wen Youren remarked, “Isn’t this the first place I came looking for you?”
Shi Wangui: “Yes, it’s where I did my first good deed.”
Entering the small classroom, they worked together to clear a space in the center. They laid down a hidden picnic mat, poured out the snacks and drinks they had bought, and pulled the heavy curtains shut. They projected a movie onto the blackboard.
Since getting together with Wen Youren, Shi Wangui felt her quality of life had skyrocketed. Besides the money she squeezed out of Shi Qin, Wen Youren would reward her from time to time. She no longer had to live life wondering where her next meal was coming from.
The four of them chose a romance movie. Adolescents always dream of and look forward to love. They might not fully understand it, but their hearts make the decisions.
Halfway through the movie, Wang Hu, sitting on the outside, realized something was wrong. He immediately muted the sound and whispered, “Listen.”
Everyone held their breath. Outside, there was the sound of two people walking—one heavy and one light. Then, a man’s voice spoke: “Are you sure they came here?”
They? Does he mean us?
Shi Wangui kept listening. They turned off the projector, plunging the room into total darkness where nothing could be seen.
A familiar female voice spoke: “I saw them come here.”
Liang Jie?
Sun Yi cursed quietly, “Damn it. That piece of work must have seen us on the playground, followed us, and snitched.”
Wen Youren said calmly, “We can’t escape now. They can see the door is locked from the inside. Hide the projector. I’ll just say it’s my birthday and I asked you guys to come celebrate with me.”
Wang Hu: “That’s a school rule violation. You’ll get a public demerit.”
Wen Youren said helplessly, “Is watching a movie not a violation too?”
Wang Hu: “…”
Knock, knock. A sound came from the door. “Everyone inside, come out now, or I’m breaking the door down.”
Shi Wangui knew the jig was up. “Let’s just go. We all go down together.”
Sun Yi and Wang Hu: “Deal!”
When the door opened, only the Dean was standing there. Liang Jie had already vanished, likely having fled to avoid being caught as the whistleblower. Seeing four students who had skipped class, the Dean was furious. “Class 10-1, right? 800-word self-reflection each. You’re all going on stage to read them after morning exercises tomorrow.”
Fortunately, the Dean didn’t ask what they were doing there. More importantly, he recognized the top student, so he internally ruled out the possibility of them doing anything truly nefarious.
Everyone: “Understood.”
Shi Wangui thought: When people are bad, there really are no words to describe them.
