Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 44
Both girls were still a bit flustered knowing their homeroom teacher had discovered their relationship. They were uncertain about how she would view them now. While they weren’t afraid of the judgment of strangers, they feared having someone constantly point at them and whisper, “You are strange, what you’re doing is wrong.”
As they returned to school and passed the office, they caught sight of a figure inside. The homeroom teacher hadn’t gone home; she was leaning back in her chair, staring intently at a few sheets of paper in her hands.
“Let’s go in,” Wen Youren said. “We have to answer for this sooner or later.”
Shi Wangui agreed. Since they had to face it eventually, why not do it now?
She knocked softly. The teacher looked up, a flash of surprise in her eyes. “Come in.”
Wen Youren took Shi Wangui’s hand and walked straight to the teacher’s desk. “Teacher, I’m sorry. You already know about this. We didn’t intend to hide it from you or deceive you. We won’t do anything to hurt anyone, nor will we neglect our studies. On the contrary, we have an even higher goal now.”
“But we don’t want to make things difficult for you, and we don’t want to break up. If it really comes down to it, we’ll choose to take another leave of absence. I will make sure Shi Wangui gets into a good university.”
High schoolers can take the college entrance exams as independent candidates, a contingency Wen Youren had already considered. If Shi Wangui wasn’t willing to go that far, she would even be prepared to let her go—after all, if only one person was targeted, the damage would be contained.
The teacher was silent for a long time, simply watching them. Finally, she spoke slowly. “In school, you are sisters. Outside of the school’s jurisdiction, that is not for a teacher to manage. Study hard and don’t overthink it. Today, I simply handled an incident involving students fighting off-campus. As for anything else, I am unaware of it.”
Both Shi Wangui and Wen Youren were stunned. They had expected a lecture, a call to their parents, or a public criticism. Instead, it seemed the teacher was choosing to turn a blind eye.
Shi Wangui: “Teacher…”
“That’s enough. Go study,” the teacher said, spreading out the papers in her hand. They were two report cards—one from before Shi Wangui’s leave, and one from the recent exam. Her rank had jumped by dozens of places in the class alone, let alone the grade level.
“Yes, Teacher. I will definitely study hard,” Shi Wangui promised.
“I will too. I’ll do my best to teach her until she surpasses me,” Wen Youren added.
The teacher smiled slightly. “I’m heading home. Shi Wangui, remember to write your self-reflection. Fighting is unacceptable; you shouldn’t resolve issues with violence. This time it was a mutual altercation, so it could be settled between parties. But what if next time you are the sole aggressor? Do you want to go to jail? Finish it today and hand it in tomorrow.”
Seeing the teacher return to her usual stern self made Shi Wangui feel that this matter might truly be behind them. She felt she owed a small thanks to Jiang An’an for scratching her face first; otherwise, things might have been more troublesome.
“Okay. Goodbye, Teacher!” Not wanting to hear any more nagging, Shi Wangui pulled Wen Youren out of the office and ran toward the dorms.
Halfway there, she stopped. “Did you hear that? In school, we’re sisters.”
Wen Youren: “Alright, my little sister.” She touched Shi Wangui’s face gently. “Does it hurt?”
“It doesn’t,” Shi Wangui said. “She’s the one who should be hurting.”
Wen Youren said again, “Don’t be so impulsive next time. Just let me handle it.”
Shi Wangui smiled. “Okay.”
That afternoon, Sun Yi and the others arrived at the classroom. They had originally planned to study together, but they also wanted to see the aftermath of the incident.
“Wanwan, thank goodness I checked my phone as soon as I got home. That An’an person is really something else,” Sun Yi said, still shaken. “And you! If you’re going to fight, do it secretly. How did you end up at the police station?”
Sun Yi had seen the post shortly after it went up. Because the forum gets so much traffic, a lot of people had seen it before she could get the admin to delete it.
The forum frequently exposed couples, and since it was dark and the lighting was poor, people might not have recognized them if their names and class hadn’t been tagged.
Shi Wangui explained, “I wanted to lure her out and beat her up privately. But her friends were there, so I figured I might as well show them what kind of person she is.”
Wen Youren sighed. “It’s my fault. I should have stayed away from her long ago.”
Shi Wangui comforted her. “It’s not your fault. She’s the one in the wrong.”
“No, it’s still my fault.”
“No, you’re fine. We don’t need to care about outsiders.”
“Mhm, we won’t care about them.”
Sun Yi and Wang Hu: “…”
The two of them watched blankly, heads tilted, as the couple acted all lovey-dovey, arguing over who was at fault. If you asked them, they’d say both were at fault.
“Hey, hey! There are people here. Tone it down a bit,” Sun Yi interrupted. “And why didn’t you tell me you were being taken to the station this morning?”
Wang Hu chimed in, “Exactly. I haven’t even processed you two being together, and now you’re not even trying to hide it? The school has cameras everywhere. You’d better be careful.”
First High was famous but strict, especially regarding “early love.” Most classes had students of the same gender sitting together. Every night, the Dean of Students would lurk in the corners of the campus to catch anyone dating, smoking, skipping class, or fighting.
However, such incidents were rare at First High. Most of the fighters were “auditing” students. Li Jun, for instance, had barely scraped by to get in; he was a good student in middle school but had completely let himself go in high school once the supervision vanished.
Shi Wangui said defiantly, “This is just how I am! So what?” She added, “I didn’t want you to worry. See, I’m fine, and they even have to pay compensation.”
“Fine, let’s drop it. Let’s study. Final exams are in a month, then winter break,” Sun Yi reminded them. “Next time something happens, you have to tell me.”
If Sun Yi could improve her grades this term, her winter break would be perfect. She’d get everything she wanted and wouldn’t have to dodge relatives like she used to.
“Okay.” Mentioning the break reminded Shi Wangui. “Where are we going for winter break?”
Wen Youren: “We’re going back. The two people here won’t welcome us.”
Shi Wangui: “Great minds think alike.”
Wen Youren had already planned their retreat. Teacher Wang had invited her to bring Shi Wangui to stay with her over the break. As people get older, they crave company, and a house full of people makes the New Year more cheerful.
After chatting for a while, they threw themselves into their studies. As finals approached, the teachers piled on homework, terrified that missing one problem would cost a student a point on the exam.
Shi Wangui started with her Math homework. The material for the first semester wasn’t too extensive, and she had studied hard over the last few months. She could handle the basic problems now, but today she wanted to follow the teacher’s advice and try the difficult ones at the end.
Five minutes passed, then ten…
“Sister, I don’t know how to do this,” Shi Wangui asked for help.
Wen Youren, who was mid-calculation, froze. “What did you call me?”
“I don’t like ‘A-You’ anymore; it sounds like an exclamation. I want to call you ‘Sister.’ Is that okay?”
Wen Youren smiled. “Of course.”
“Then, Sister, take me out for a drink tonight.”
“No. You don’t actually want to drink.”
Shi Wangui: “…”
Fine, no drink. She just wanted to test her tolerance and wondered why Wen Youren could do whatever she wanted but wouldn’t let her do the same.
“Why can’t I? You smoke! You smoked last night, I saw you,” Shi Wangui muttered.
Wen Youren’s heart skipped a beat. She had snuck off to a corner of the dorm building to have a few cigarettes while Shi Wangui was supposedly asleep. It turned out she hadn’t been sleeping at all.
She pulled a half-empty pack from her bag. “I won’t smoke anymore. Let’s both be good students, okay?”
“Mhm… okay,” Shi Wangui agreed, lowering her head back to the math problem.
Wait, she had asked Wen Youren because she was stuck. How did they end up talking about everything except the math? “I really can’t do it. Teach me.”
Wen Youren took the paper, sketched out the logic on some scrap paper, and asked, “Remember the method I taught you last night?”
“I remember.”
“It’s the same type of problem. You just haven’t fully grasped the logic, which makes it easy to forget. Try to recall how I explained it yesterday. Think it through. If you still can’t do it, then follow my steps.”
Shi Wangui: “Alright.”
She traced the steps in her mind, deducing the parts she had forgotten. Gradually, the solution began to take shape.
Seeing the answer on her scrap paper, Shi Wangui had an idea. “Sister, you write the answer down.”
Wen Youren had already solved it and knew the answer. She thought Shi Wangui was still stuck. “Still can’t get it?”
“No,” Shi Wangui pulled out her own scrap paper. “I got it, but I want you to write it.”
Unsure what game she was playing, Wen Youren complied, carefully writing out: F(X) = 5.
Shi Wangui grinned and added 20 after it. “What should you write next?”
Wen Youren laughed softly and, after F(X) = 520, wrote: = “I love you”.
Then Shi Wangui added: = Gay.
The final line read: F(X) = 520 = I love you = Gay.
“How about that? Am I amazing?” Shi Wangui blinked, waiting for praise.
After a long wait, Sun Yi, who had turned around to ask a question of her own, said dryly, “Amazing.”
