[Greek Mythology] The Demons Under My Command - Chapter 14
The demon (Hera) was sleeping soundly beside her. Li Jia spent most of the night discussing things with the brainwave (System), sorting out the plot and formulating a strategy.
It wasn’t until dawn that the system yawned, said it needed to go back to recharge, and told Li Jia to call it if she needed anything.
Li Jia, feeling distressed, let out a soft “Mm” with dark circles under her eyes.
The brainwave then vanished from her mind.
Li Jia picked up the hourglass necklace around her neck and sighed deeply.
She had been here for nearly half a month, yet only two grains of sand had fallen.
Li Jia and the system agreed that for Hera not to marry Zeus, Li Jia must occupy a very important position in Hera’s heart. Li Jia’s idea was simple:
She just needed to be about as important as Winslow.
At least.
To become a friend in her heart, right?
She didn’t have the high combat power of Dorin to fight side-by-side with Hera.
If she occupied a place in Hera’s heart, Hera would trust her, and everything Li Jia did would be favored by her.
If Li Jia sabotaged the marriage between Hera and Zeus, Hera wouldn’t object.
Actually, Li Jia wasn’t sure if Hera would still marry him for the sake of the Divine King’s authority.
The Divine King’s authority belonged exclusively to the Divine King.
The Divine King possessed the highest power of creation and destruction in the entire book, capable of maintaining and creating new world frameworks and order, and also capable of instantly annihilating and reshaping everything with earth-shattering power.
In the original novel, Zeus’s Divine King’s authority suppressed all deities. Even the three Creator Gods might not fare well against him.
In the current plot stage, there were only the Twelve Divine Lords, and Zeus had not yet become the Divine King.
So, what was the basis for becoming the Divine King?
Li Jia had only read two-thirds of the book and had skimmed through it. She regretted not reading the entire book and asked the system for the remaining one-third of the plot.
The system immediately sounded an alarm, indicating “no permission.” The system awkwardly told her that Li Jia could only see the full plot by following the story into the later half; right now, it was considered a spoiler, and only pixelated content was visible.
Li Jia had no choice but to give up and take things one step at a time.
The first step of the strategy was complete: she had successfully come to Hera’s side.
The keyword for the second step was three words: Goodwill (Affection) Rating.
Li Jia needed to rapidly increase her goodwill rating to have a say in front of Hera.
But how could she raise the goodwill rating?
That was another problem. Hera was often not at the hot spring grotto. The few times Li Jia had seen her were mostly at night; Hera would only come back to sleep, and she’d be gone when Li Jia woke up.
She recalled a saying: They are all inns, only I am home.
Li Jia felt inexplicably annoyed.
How could this be? Forcibly bringing her back only to bench her every day.
The more Li Jia thought about it, the angrier she became.
For a fire sign, anger flares up in an instant.
After last night’s talk, Li Jia’s courage grew. She reached out and shook the arm of the person beside her.
Hera had actually woken up a while ago. She was watching the little creature in her arms with her divine consciousness, seeing the colorful expressions on her face, happy one moment and sad the next.
Hera found it even more amusing to see so many messy expressions on one face at the same time.
She wondered what Li Jia wanted to do or say.
Hera didn’t open her eyes the first time Li Jia shook her. If she woke up immediately, it would seem a little… undignified.
So, when Li Jia shook her a second time, she still didn’t open her eyes.
Li Jia truly thought she was asleep and didn’t dare to poke the sleeping tiger again.
Who knew, her arm bumped into Hera’s body.
The demon opened her eyes, her pair of beautiful red pupils staring at Li Jia with a hint of resentment.
Li Jia was stunned, Holy cow!
She immediately sat up in fright.
Heaven witness!
She didn’t do anything!
Under the gloomy gaze, Li Jia timidly pulled at the sleeve of Hera’s robe, her voice soft and sweet: “Your Majesty, you’re awake. Did you sleep well last night?”
“Slept… alright,” Hera raised an eyebrow, leaning on one elbow, looking at Li Jia, and asked softly, “Is there something you want to say to me?”
At that moment, the fire that Li Jia had just ignited was largely extinguished. She secretly glanced at Hera, who seemed to be in a good mood. Maybe now was a good time to speak.
If she didn’t speak now, she didn’t know when she would see her again. How could she increase her goodwill rating if she couldn’t even see the person?
Li Jia hesitated for a few breaths, deciding to focus on the goodwill rating first. If she didn’t increase it, she would be doomed.
Who knew if Hera would be misled by other cats and dogs when Li Jia wasn’t by her side?
“As Your Majesty’s attendant, I should always be by your side. Serving Your Majesty is my mission, but I can only occasionally see Your Majesty at night.” Her voice got smaller and smaller. “It’s just… could you please take me with you when you go out in the future? I promise I won’t embarrass you.”
Li Jia lowered her head slightly, her fingers circling Hera’s sash. Her wet eyes, with droopy corners, were covered with an indissoluble mist of water, looking extremely wronged.
Her voice was light and husky, as if choked by something.
Since Li Jia discovered that Hera responded better to softness than to hardness, she had a measure of how to proceed.
By pretending to be this pitiful, Hera wouldn’t be able to find fault or speak harshly.
Hera: “Okay.”
Li Jia: “Crap?”
Why did she agree so readily? Li Jia thought she’d have to badger her for at least a few nights before Hera would agree to let her go out with her.
Seeing Li Jia’s shocked expression, Hera was actually in a good mood.
Even if Li Jia hadn’t actively proposed it, she had planned to keep her by her side.
She wanted to see what tricks this little creature was trying to play.
Time would tell; there would be a day when she exposed her true intentions.
Including what she wanted to gain from being near Hera, as her deceitful words had no credibility whatsoever.
“Then let’s get up.”
Hera got out of bed. She glanced down at the stunned ‘salted fish’ on the bed and unintentionally saw Li Jia’s ‘two grapes’ (breasts), then turned around and said flatly.
“Huh? So early. Why get up so early?”
The sun hadn’t fully risen yet. Li Jia estimated it was still before seven. She didn’t have to work or go to school, so why get up so early for no reason?
Hera: “To inspect the Temple of Marriage and resolve their problems.”
Oh, well.
So she had to go to work. No wonder Hera woke up so early every day.
Li Jia awkwardly said, “But this early, will people really go to offer incense and worship so early?”
Hera: “The early bird gets the worm. What did you think? You wait for incense to be automatically delivered to your mouth?”
Li Jia had to nod. Hera told her to get ready and wait in the main hall.
Sigh, why did she still have to ‘go to work’ even after coming here? It was all this rotten strategy’s fault!
Li Jia let out three roars of a tired worker.
Reluctantly, she got up and started picking clothes. After thinking for a while, she decided to wear the uniform she had customized. Hera’s clothes were mostly black and red. To match her, Li Jia specifically asked the Goddess of Weaving to make her a black uniform with a pleated skirt, paired with a red bow tie. Li Jia also asked her to make two red wave-patterned hair clips.
She tied her hair into pigtails, walked over to the bronze mirror, and was satisfied.
Not bad. It has that Hell Girl vibe.
Li Jia slowly walked to the door of the main hall, retreating in her mind the whole way. How could Hera agree to her so quickly?
Abnormal events must indicate a hidden trick. She just didn’t know what Hera was planning.
Now it was her turn to be confused.
“Why aren’t you coming in?”
Sensing the little creature hesitating and shuffling outside the door, the Divine Lord on the throne showed a hint of confusion.
She had the nerve to ask her to take her along a moment ago, but now she didn’t even dare to step inside the door.
Hearing Hera call her, Li Jia had no choice but to brace herself and walk in. As soon as she entered, she smelled the aroma of food, and Li Jia couldn’t help but swallow.
Li Jia almost forgot about breakfast. But don’t gods usually skip breakfast?
Why was there the aroma of food in the main hall?
She was just about to sneak off and find Winslow to see if she could slip her a couple of pieces of bread to eat on the way.
“Come up.”
The deity on the high seat beckoned with a finger. How could Li Jia dare to disobey? She scampered over obediently.
Li Jia had also realized that as long as she was obedient and compliant, she would have food, drink, clothes, and money.
She stood meekly beside the woman. The woman looked up and carefully examined her face and the unfamiliar outfit, nodding in satisfaction: “Not bad.”
What was “not bad”?
Li Jia was confused, but before she could figure it out, a pair of large hands picked her up and sat her on Hera’s lap. Due to the height difference, Li Jia had no chance to resist.
Suddenly, being so close to Hera, Li Jia’s throat moved up and down twice, but she couldn’t make a sound. Only her heart thumped like a drum in her chest, making her eardrums buzz.
Her gaze fell on the food on the table in front: toasted bread slices, mashed potatoes with chopped parsley, pan-fried golden-brown beef slices, fried eggs, and a large porcelain bowl of grapes.
Li Jia’s attention was completely drawn to the food, and she completely forgot the brief moment of panic, letting the woman stroke the soft flesh on her back and arms.
“Eat.”
After saying that, Hera picked up a grape from the table, peeled it, and offered it to Li Jia’s mouth. Li Jia swallowed it immediately. It was sweet and juicy.
She secretly thought, I didn’t expect the cold and emotionless Divine Lord in the book to be someone with a strange fetish—she likes human soft cushions, and she also likes to buy clothes for the cushions and feed them.
She felt more and more like Hera was playing a dress-up game.
Winslow stood by the side, her eyes full of the expression “I ship it.” Even though she tried hard to control herself, the corners of her mouth started to curl up uncontrollably, forming a wider and wider arc. She simply covered her mouth, her shoulders still trembling slightly, unable to suppress it.
Finally, she excused herself by saying she needed to get some food to eat on the road and slipped out of the main hall.
Dorin stood there like a block of wood, playing the role of a ten-thousand-volt lightbulb. Winslow couldn’t stand it and dragged her to the kitchen to pack things up.
“Aren’t you two eating?”
Li Jia was already full, dizzy with carbs in Hera’s arms. Seeing them sneaking around, she asked sleepily.
“We already ate, we already ate. I’m going to the kitchen to pack some small biscuits for you,” Winslow said, immediately covering Dorin’s mouth, who was about to say “We didn’t…” eat, and dragged her out of the main hall.
“Don’t ruin Her Majesty’s good thing.”
Winslow said, looking frustrated.
“What good thing?”
“You’re just a block of wood. Her Majesty is having a once-in-a-thousand-years breakthrough. When have you ever seen Her Majesty have breakfast in the hot spring grotto? And she specifically summoned me with a divine decree this morning to prepare it.”
“This is amazing, amazing. My art finally has a chance to shine.”
Dorin felt that not only Her Majesty was abnormal, but Winslow was too.
