- Chapter 24 - Don’t Be Afraid, I’m Here
Lan Wangji had just returned to the Jingshi and closed the door when a dark shadow lunged at him, pinning him against the door.
“This is a robbery!”
Lan Wangji looked quietly at the person “robbing” him and said nothing.
Wei Wuxian pressed the tip of his nose against Lan Wangji’s and said, “I said, this is a robbery!”
Lan Wangji asked, “Robbing what?”
Wei Wuxian replied, “Robbing your beauty!”
Lan Wangji said, “Fine.”
Wei Wuxian pulled back slightly, extending a finger to hook under Lan Wangji’s chin. He put on a lewd expression and said, “What a handsome man. Being born this good-looking aren’t you just seducing me into doing something wicked?”
Lan Wangji remained silent and took a step forward.
Wei Wuxian pressed the hand that was hooking Lan Wangji’s chin against his chest and said with a grin, “What? Is Hanguang-jun so embarrassed that he’s turned to anger? Are you going to get physical? No, please, I’m so scared! Spare me!”
Lan Wangji made a grab for that wrist, but Wei Wuxian was faster, pulling his hand back instantly. He said, “A gentleman uses his tongue, not his hands. Besides, you are Hanguang-jun.”
Wei Wuxian then leaned in and whispered into Lan Wangji’s ear, “It seems Er-gege can’t wait for me to rob his beauty, hmm~?”
Lan Wangji turned his head toward Wei Wuxian just as Wei Wuxian was looking at him; by turning his head, Lan Wangji’s lips happened to catch Wei Wuxian’s.
Wei Wuxian gave a mischievous, successful smirk and immediately leaped back to a distance. He touched his lips and feigned horror. “Oh my! Wasn’t I the one doing the robbing? How did I end up being robbed instead? Hanguang-jun is truly too powerful!”
A faint fire flickered in Lan Wangji’s eyes. His voice sounded dangerously low as he said, “Wei Ying!”
Wei Wuxian laughed. “I’m here! What’s wrong?”
Lan Wangji pinned Wei Wuxian against the door, pulled open his collar, and bit down on Wei Wuxian’s collarbone. The sudden sting made Wei Wuxian immediately beg for mercy.
However, no matter how Wei Wuxian pleaded, Lan Wangji had no intention of letting go. In his frantic struggling, Wei Wuxian’s knee accidentally bumped between Lan Wangji’s legs.
Wei Wuxian froze instantly. With a low growl, Lan Wangji scooped Wei Wuxian up and carried him to the bed, tearing off his belt in one motion.
Before Wei Wuxian could react, he felt a sudden chill; his clothes had already “left home.”
Lan Wangji quickly removed his forehead ribbon and tied a beautiful butterfly knot around Wei Wuxian’s wrists. He leaned over Wei Wuxian, the corners of his mouth curling into a very faint, shallow smile as he said, “Robbing beauty.”
Wei Wuxian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Fine, I’ll let you rob me. Rob me however you like. Just one thing—can you please stop biting people!”
Lan Wangji replied, “No.”
Wei Wuxian exclaimed, “How can you be this kind of Hanguang-jun!”
Lan Wangji nibbled on Wei Wuxian’s earlobe and asked, “Which kind?”
Wei Wuxian shrank his neck and circled his arms around Lan Wangji’s neck. “A powerful Hanguang-jun! My favorite Hanguang-jun!”
Having said that, his legs also hooked around Lan Wangji’s waist as he pressed his lips against Lan Wangji’s. Lan Wangji pulled Wei Wuxian into his arms and deepened the kiss.
That night, Wei Wuxian once again learned a profound lesson: On the bed, Lan Wangji was not a gentleman at all!
But even so, if one were to ask Wei Wuxian if he would dare to tease Lan Wangji like this next time, his answer would undoubtedly be: Yes!
Not only would he dare, he would become even more courageous with every battle!
The Discussion Conference arrived as scheduled.
This conference was very important to Wei Wuxian, and it was equally important to Lan Wangji. Although the various sects had come regarding the matter of the Chief Cultivator, many people were specifically targeting the Stygian Tiger Seal and Wei Wuxian himself.
Naturally, they weren’t there to praise him. Their true motives were clear to everyone.
The Gusu Lan Sect had always been the most intolerant of the wicked path, priding themselves on being elegant, upright, and strictly just. Even if Lan Wangji protected Wei Wuxian, would Lan Qiren do the same?
It seemed impossible.
Everyone knew that over a decade ago, before Wei Wuxian became the Yiling Patriarch, he had come to Gusu to study as the Head Disciple of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. Even then, Lan Qiren had disliked him. Now, he surely disliked him even more.
What the masses didn’t know was that although Lan Qiren was pedantic and strict, he was not foolish. No matter how much he disapproved of Wei Wuxian, he had to admit—willingly or not that in everyone’s eyes, Wei Wuxian was now tacitly linked to the Gusu Lan Sect.
What was the one thing Lan Qiren could tolerate least? Naturally, it was damage to the Gusu Lan Sect’s century-old reputation. Since Wei Wuxian was going to be associated with the sect regardless, Lan Qiren would not let others find an opening to attack.
Therefore, this Discussion Conference was also intended to make the various sects understand the Gusu Lan Sect’s stance regarding Wei Wuxian.
On the morning of the conference, Wei Wuxian woke up before the Hour of the Rabbit (5:00 AM). He lay on top of Lan Wangji, staring at the two nearly identical Lan Sect robes, and felt a warmth in his heart.
Not only was he allowed to attend the conference, but he was also to attend wearing the Lan Sect uniform. What did this represent? It represented that the Gusu Lan Sect recognized his status as a cultivation partner!
Thinking of Lan Qiren fuming with anger while Lan Wangji remained fearless, Wei Wuxian knew the uncle and nephew must have had many arguments over him.
Wei Wuxian thought to himself: Lan Zhan must have nearly made his uncle faint from anger. I really do feel a bit bad for Old Master Lan; his most prideful Hanguang-jun was ‘defiled’ by me. If I were him, I’d be driven mad with rage, too.
While lost in thought, Wei Wuxian turned his head to look at Lan Wangji, only to meet Lan Wangji’s light, glass-like eyes.
Wei Wuxian smiled. “Lan Zhan, you’re awake.”
Lan Wangji’s chest rose and fell slightly. “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian cupped Lan Wangji’s face in his hands. “Lan Zhan, why are you awake before the Hour of the Rabbit?”
Lan Wangji didn’t speak; he just lowered his eyes to look at Wei Wuxian’s legs.
Wei Wuxian pretended to be oblivious. “What are you staring at so early in the morning? Hanguang-jun, how can you be so shameless?”
Lan Wangji suddenly caught Wei Wuxian’s leg, forcing it to stop rubbing against his own.
Wei Wuxian winced and raised both hands. “Wait, wait, wait! Okay, Lan Zhan, I was wrong. Let me go. I was almost taken apart by you last night; at least leave me with enough breath to attend the Discussion Conference.”
Lan Wangji shook his head helplessly. “Get up.”
Wei Wuxian immediately chirped happily, “Right away, Lan Er-gege! I’m the best at getting up; I’ll be up in a second.”
Though his mouth said this, his body didn’t move at all, and his hands remained firmly draped over Lan Wangji’s shoulders. Lan Wangji wrapped one arm around Wei Wuxian’s waist and gently stroked his back with the other.
Wei Wuxian shifted his body and turned his head again. “Lan Zhan, today is the Discussion Conference.”
Lan Wangji said, “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian said, “I’m also going to attend.”
Lan Wangji said, “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian said, “A lot of people came for your sect’s conference, right?”
Lan Wangji said, “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian said, “Lan Zhan, about your family’s conference…”
Lan Wangji interrupted, “Don’t be afraid. I am here.”
The heart that Wei Wuxian had been carrying in suspense all morning finally settled down peacefully. His tension and unease vanished for the most part, and he hugged Lan Wangji’s neck tightly.
As expected, with Lan Wangji around, Wei Wuxian feared nothing. Even if Lan Wangji said nothing and did nothing, as long as he was there, Wei Wuxian would feel incredibly at ease. It was just that magical.
