- Chapter 12 - Let's Bathe Together
By the time they finished dinner, the Hour of Hai (9:00 PM) had already arrived. At this time in the Cloud Recesses, everyone except for those on night patrol had already retired for the night.
Lan Wangji gathered the bowls and chopsticks back into the food box and prepared to head out once more.
Wei Wuxian grabbed his arm and said, “Lan Zhan, it’s already the Hour of Hai. Why not just leave them here and take them back tomorrow morning?”
Lan Wangji replied, “It is no matter.”
Wei Wuxian teased, “Lan Zhan, is ‘it is no matter’ the only thing you know how to say?”
Lan Wangji thought for a moment before saying, “Wei Ying, while you are in the Jingshi, you do not need to follow the house rules.”
“And what about you?” Wei Wuxian asked. “If I don’t follow the rules, will it get you into trouble?”
Lan Wangji answered, “It will not. No one will know within the Jingshi.”
With that, Lan Wangji stepped out with the food box. He returned a short while later carrying two buckets of hot water, which he poured into the wooden tub.
The tub in the Jingshi was not much larger than the one at the inn; it was admittedly a bit small for two people. However, if they held each other closely, they could still fit.
Lan Wangji said, “Wei Ying, you first.”
Having said that, he walked over to the writing desk, sat down, and began to write.
Wei Wuxian walked over to the opposite side of the desk, leaning his upper body against it as he stared at Lan Wangji without blinking.
Finding his view obstructed, Lan Wangji set down his brush and called out, “Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian glanced at the characters Lan Wangji was writing and asked, “Lan Zhan, are you starting to copy the house rules already?”
Lan Wangji replied, “Mn. I am waiting for you.”
Wei Wuxian circled around to Lan Wangji’s side, sat on the desk, and said, “Lan Zhan, let’s bathe together.”
Lan Wangji stared at him in silence.
Wei Wuxian grinned. “What? Does Er-Gege not want to bathe together?”
Lan Wangji replied, “Alright.”
He stood up, took Wei Wuxian’s hand, and went to bathe.
As they soaked together in the tub, Lan Wangji held Wei Wuxian from behind. Wei Wuxian kicked at the water, sending up small splashes. “Lan Zhan, let’s change this for a bigger tub. This one is really too small; one can’t do anything in here.”
Lan Wangji’s earlobes turned a faint shade of red as he murmured, “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian turned his head to look at him. “Lan Zhan, did your uncle make things difficult for you when he found out I was coming?”
Lan Wangji smoothed Wei Wuxian’s water-dampened hair and said, “No. Uncle knows my heart.”
Although Lan Xichen had told Wei Wuxian at Guanyin Temple about what had happened after Nightless City, Wei Wuxian still felt that Lan Qiren would find him an eyesore.
In truth, that was indeed the case. However, because of Lan Wangji’s repeated insistence, Lan Qiren had no way to completely forbid Wei Wuxian from the Cloud Recesses. After all, Lan Qiren understood Lan Wangji’s temperament perfectly; if he continued to push, he feared he might never again see this Hanguang-Jun who was once his greatest pride.
After a long silence, Wei Wuxian traced the discipline whip scars on Lan Wangji’s back. “Lan Zhan, these marks should never have appeared on you.”
Lan Wangji replied firmly, “They should have.”
Wei Wuxian pulled him into a tight embrace and pressed a kiss against the brand mark on Lan Wangji’s chest. His voice was thick with desire as he whispered, “Lan Zhan…”
Lan Wangji’s composure had long since been shattered by Wei Wuxian. He let out a low groan and bit down on Wei Wuxian’s neck.
Wei Wuxian winced and complained, “Lan Zhan! I told you, I’m fine with whatever you want to do, but don’t bite!”
Lan Wangji immediately silenced him with a kiss.
Had the tub not been so small that Wei Wuxian couldn’t fully turn around, he would have pinned Lan Wangji down right then and there. After a brief, intense kiss, Wei Wuxian felt like his neck was about to snap; the position was far too taxing on his neck and waist.
Wei Wuxian panted, “Lan Zhan, change this tub tomorrow! It’s seriously limiting your performance.”
Lan Wangji muttered, “Shameless.”
Wei Wuxian hooked his arms around Lan Wangji’s neck. “Let me see exactly how ‘shameless’ our Lan Er-Gongzi can be.”
Lan Wangji rose abruptly, lifting Wei Wuxian out of the water. He used his spiritual energy to instantly dry both of them and carried him toward the bed.
Wei Wuxian teased from his arms, “Tsk, it seems the most shameless one is actually Lan Er-Gongzi.”
Before he could say more, he was placed on the bed with Lan Wangji’s face inches from his own. At a time like this, who cared about being shameless? Their bodies were honest and would not lie.
Wei Wuxian wrapped his arms tightly around Lan Wangji’s neck, pulling him down.
Just before completely losing himself to his instincts, Lan Wangji cast a silencing barrier around the Jingshi.
