Good Night, Brother! - Chapter 9.12
“Uh? That’s all there is to it.”
After finishing her story, their mother sipped the plum tea that had been served for dessert.
When they went to the hospital earlier, they’d taken a taxi because their father said his trembling hands made it impossible to hold the steering wheel. On the way back, however, the entire family took the subway together for the first time in a long while.
After getting off the subway, Yi Hyeon and their mother walked ahead, while Eun Hyun and their father trailed a few steps behind. For some reason, walking alone with their father felt awkward. To break the silence, Eun Hyun tried to make small talk. After glancing at their father for a while, they finally voiced the question that had been lingering in their mind.
“Dad.”
“Yeah.”
“But… why did you change your mind? Was it because you regret not being able to do what you truly wanted to?”
“Hmm…”
Their father gazed far into the horizon, where the sky and earth seemed to meet, before slowly beginning to speak.
“I asked myself how I could face Taeho if I died because of you two…”
With a sigh, he paused, carefully choosing his next words.
“Thinking about seeing Taeho after I die…” A fleeting thought crossed my mind: would he actually be glad that I decided not to have the baby? He was the one who overcame so many hardships, studied tirelessly to save lives, and became a thoracic surgeon.
“…….”
As Eun Hyun remembered, the father of Yi Hyeon was Joo Tae Ho—a man who, despite the dark circles etched under his eyes from endless surgeries, always greeted Eun Hyun with a bright, genuine smile whenever they met.
“Now that I think about it, this baby is not just mine but also Taeho’s grandchild…”
“…….”
“Honestly, Dad, you’ve grown up with your siblings for so long. I still can’t quite understand why you hold such lingering grudges against each other.” But… what’s done is done. What can we do now?”
“…….”
“Living as long as I have, I’ve learned there aren’t as many things we can truly decide for ourselves as we’d like to believe. At least I can make this one decision on my own, so I won’t have regrets later.”
The midsummer sunlight filtered through, bright and warm, scattering into brilliant shards of white. Her father stood there, basking in the light, his face adorned with a broad, playful grin—the same smile he’d often shown during her childhood. At that sight, Eun Hyun, tears brimming in her eyes, couldn’t help but close them and laugh softly.
On the KTX to Seoul, Eun Hye’s head swayed gently as she dozed off, her body succumbing to the fatigue of early pregnancy. Lately, she had been feeling unusually drowsy, and the weight of her resolved worries seemed to melt away her tension entirely.
Yi Hyeon, sitting beside her, carefully shifted her head onto his shoulder, ensuring she wouldn’t wake. With her head resting on her younger sibling’s shoulder, Eun Hye sank into a deep, peaceful sleep.
When they returned home later, as soon as the door clicked shut, the air between them shifted. Without hesitation, they drew closer, their emotions taking over. Their lips met in an urgent exchange, breaths mingling as they clung to one another, surrendering to the moment.
For so long, they had restrained themselves, only daring to express affection through light, fleeting touches. But now, their kisses deepened, full of longing, as if trying to reclaim lost time. The sound of their lips moving and soft gasps filled the room, amplifying the intensity between them.
“It’s okay.”
With a tender gesture, Yi Hyeon pressed light kisses on Eun Hyun’s face, his movements hesitant yet affectionate. The tension between them grew as Yi Hyeon reached out, his actions deliberate yet laced with care.
Eun Hyun suddenly grabbed Yi Hyeon’s wrist, his voice trembling.
“Ah, no…! Don’t.”
“Why?” Yi Hyeon murmured softly, his tone playful but edged with a hint of seriousness. “You seemed so eager just moments ago—what changed?”
Despite the lighthearted teasing, the atmosphere was charged with emotions neither could fully express. Yi Hyeon leaned closer, his breath warm against Eun Hyun’s neck. The soft graze of his lips sent a shiver through Eun Hyun, a mix of emotions stirring within him.
“The doctor said…” Eun Hyun’s words faltered, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I shouldn’t… not until things are stable.”
Yi Hyeon sighed, the weight of restraint evident in his expression. “Alright,” he said, though his reluctance was clear.
Still, unable to completely ignore the moment, Yi Hyeon cupped Eun Hyun’s face gently, brushing his lips across his cheek in a soft, lingering kiss.
“Then…” Yi Hyeon’s voice dipped lower, teasing yet tender. “What if I asked for something simpler?”
Eun Hyun’s face flushed, the intensity of the moment catching him off guard. “Do whatever you want,” he murmured, his voice barely audible.
Taking his words as permission, Yi Hyeon smiled, a playful glint in his eyes. “Alright, but you’ll need to trust me,” he said, his tone light but filled with intent.
Why…? Why does it have to be like that?
With a look still full of doubt, Yi Hyeon quickly gave Eunhyun’s butt a light slap, making a sound.
“Hyung, hurry up.” You said I could do whatever I wanted.
“Uh?” No, that’s… Ah!Oops!
Seeing Eunhyun’s already reddened and dripping genitals, Yi Hyeon, who was already out of his mind, had no capacity to listen to the answer. Yi hyeon grabbed his brother’s hips and pulled him forward, then sat Eunhyun’s butt down on his face.
