God is Being Pampered by the Group - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: The First Sign of a Shura Field
Electric Sparks
Hengdian World Studios, film set.
Guan Zhou stood up, a feeling of “as expected” rising within him as he moved to meet the approaching male lead, Qi Yue who was also, in fact, a rat spirit.
Looking at that face, which not only conformed to human aesthetics but was also adored by fans, the thought that the other party was actually a rat spirit popped into Guan Zhou’s mind again. He had to admit, he was salty.
“Is something up?”
No matter what he was thinking inside, Guan Zhou kept a smile on his face.
Qi Yue’s brow remained slightly furrowed except when he was acting. He glanced around again, and after confirming that Guan Zhou was alone, he finally spoke with a smile:
“How come I don’t see your cousin today?”
Guan Zhou arched an eyebrow and smiled: “My cousin? It’s rare for a big star to pay so much attention to him. However, I thought about it all night and felt that bringing people onto the set haphazardly isn’t great, so I let him stay home today.”
Qi Yue chuckled: “Oh? Is that so? I’ve already spoken to the director; if your cousin wants to come, he can come whenever he likes. No one will stop him.”
Guan Zhou smiled back: “Is that so? Then thanks for the thought. But I think we’ll pass. Young people, you know their interest in filming is just momentary curiosity. They lose passion very quickly.”
Qi Yue: “…”
In the air, electric sparks faintly crackled from the friction.
Qi Yue could tell now Guan Zhou clearly had some kind of hostility toward him.
But Qi Yue thought back; besides the single interaction when he approached them yesterday, in the past, he wouldn’t have even noticed a bit-part player like Guan Zhou. If it weren’t for…
So, there was no way he had offended the man. Where did this hostility come from?
Qi Yue truly observed Guan Zhou for the first time. In any field, there is no shortage of jealousy from the incompetent toward the successful. Could this man’s hostility be due to that?
Qi Yue sneered, his eyes flickering with a hint of mockery and contempt. He looked down on Guan Zhou even more now.
Qi Yue said: “Sister Wang gave you a business card yesterday. Given your cousin’s conditions, it’s best to consider it carefully as soon as possible.”
If he hadn’t mentioned it, it would have been fine, but the mention reminded Guan Zhou of the incident. At the time, he had simply thought Wang Shan took a liking to Bai Yan’s looks, like a talent scout seeing a prize, but now it seemed there might be some kind of conspiracy involved
Guan Zhou’s brow furrowed and then quickly smoothed out. He smiled at Qi Yue: “Thank Sister Wang for her kindness on my behalf, but this matter depends on whether my cousin likes it. If he doesn’t, there’s nothing I can do.”
What kind of ghost answer was that? Was it a matter of “liking” it? This was a major matter concerning his future! If anyone with a dream of acting heard Guan Zhou’s words, they would probably cough up blood and faint, or slap him twice to wake him up.
Qi Yue was equally astonished. He looked at Guan Zhou with suspicion, unsure if he was joking. After all, Guan Zhou had been struggling at the bottom of the entertainment industry for several years; there was no way he didn’t understand the importance of seizing a hard-won opportunity.
But at this moment, in Qi Yue’s eyes, Guan Zhou’s expression didn’t change at all, as if giving up this opportunity was as simple as tossing out a basin of water…
Qi Yue reigned in his emotions. His gaze toward Guan Zhou now carried a faint trace of disdain. He said coldly: “Your decision doesn’t represent your cousin’s. Don’t delay your cousin’s future.”
He hadn’t expected this man to be so ugly jealous of his own cousin for getting an opportunity, not hesitating to destroy the bridge for his cousin to enter the entertainment industry. Did he think that if his cousin “refused” the chance, it would be his turn next?
Ridiculous.
Seeing that this rat spirit still hadn’t given up on his designs for Bai Yan, Guan Zhou withdrew his fake smile and said decisively:
“This is my cousin’s decision.”
“Also, that is my cousin, not your cousin. I hope you’ll mind how you address my cousin, Mr. Big Star.”
Qi Yue gave him a deep look, let out an ambiguous cold hmph from his throat, and turned to leave.
Director Zhou looked over. Seeing the two of them looking like they were “chatting happily,” he couldn’t help but marvel that Guan Zhou’s luck might be turning. He decided to give the kid two extra lines today. Though his acting was subpar, at least his face was decent.
…
Unaware of the confrontation Guan Zhou had with Qi Yue at the studio today because of him, Bai Yan followed Guan Zhou’s instructions by putting on his hat and mask. Carrying the self-cleaned black cat in his arms, he walked out the door.
He planned to wander around—to see this world, which was similar yet different from the original Earth, with his own feet on the ground. Information gathered from the internet was, after all, different from what one experienced with their own eyes.
The scenery that had flashed by while following Guan Zhou these past few days wasn’t as real as savoring it slowly.
Bai Yan felt he hadn’t truly integrated into this world. It was as if there was a thin membrane between them, making him feel ethereal, as if he might drift away with the wind at any moment.
Bai Yan knew the reason: he lacked a sense of belonging. The world had accepted him, but he hadn’t truly accepted the world.
A gentle breeze brushed against his cheek. His snowy eyelashes fluttered slightly, and his silvery-white hair drifted in the air.
It was very gentle. The world was trying to keep him, hoping he would stay…
Bai Yan stood at the bus stop. With his upright posture, long silver hair falling from the edge of his hat, and skin as fair as jade, holding the quiet and well-behaved black cat in his arms, he was a beautiful sight in the eyes of passersby.
A bus arrived and slowly pulled into the stop. Bai Yan stepped on with his long legs. There weren’t many passengers, only a few and Bai Yan sat down in an empty seat.
He hadn’t chosen a destination; he simply boarded the first bus that arrived. Wherever the bus went, he would go.
The bus carrying Bai Yan traveled through the streets, stopping at station after station. Half an hour later, it crossed the Hengjiang Bridge. The sunlight reflected off the sparkling water, mirroring the shadows of the buildings on the riverbank. Rafts on boats cut through the lake water, forming ripples…
Bai Yan got off at the final stop. Here, skyscrapers stood tall, their straight structures soaring as if to pierce the clouds. A person standing among them felt as small as an ant.
“Meow”
The black cat in his arms suddenly let out a cry, looking behind Bai Yan at a sneaky figure following them from the bus.
Bai Yan’s eyelids lowered slightly. He raised a hand to slowly stroke the black cat’s soft fur. He shifted his steps and walked toward a corner.
Seeing Bai Yan’s figure disappear from view, the person behind him quickly quickened their pace.
However, when he turned the corner, he found no one ahead.
“Where is he?!”
It was a dead end. The person seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Regardless of how this person stomped their feet in disbelief at the empty dead end, on the other side of a wall was a pedestrian street. Bai Yan had already blended into the crowd.
A dessert shop.
Ding-dong
“Welcome”
The lady boss, with a smile on her face, watched a special guest walk in slowly. Silver hair traced a graceful arc in the air, and a cute, well-behaved black cat lay quietly in the guest’s arms.
Bai Yan sat down by the window. His fair finger pointed to the chocolate pudding cake on the menu.
“I’ll have one of these, please. Thank you.”
“Certainly”
However, a few minutes later, besides the chocolate pudding cake Bai Yan had ordered, there was also a matcha milkshake.
Sensing the confusion in Bai Yan’s gaze, the lady boss smiled: “A special gift from the shop, only for you~”
The lady boss didn’t know why, but this special guest gave her a very kind feeling, making her involuntarily want to be a little better to him, and then a little better still~
“Thank you.”
Bai Yan watched the lady boss return to the kitchen in a pleasant mood. He then heard the black cat speak in a lowered, youthful voice:
“She’s a good person.”
The black cat sniffed the chocolate pudding and matcha milkshake on the table, then lowered its head with little interest, its eyes narrowing slightly as it comfortably enjoyed Bai Yan’s stroking.
A moment later, the black cat opened its eyes and turned to look in a certain direction. A girl was excitedly raising her phone toward them, looking as if she wanted to take a photo.
Looking back at Bai Yan, he had already taken off his mask. It’s impossible to eat while wearing a mask, right?
Black cat: “Meow!”
It then watched with satisfaction as the girl, looking as if she had been caught doing something wrong, pulled her phone down in a flash.
