- Chapter 31 - She Is Her Omega, Love Is Always Feeling In Debt
What kind of person is Rong Shu, really?
Yu Qianyan, startled by the realization that she might have fallen into a gentle trap, couldn’t sleep and began to ponder this question.
The relationship between them was complicated, yet simple at the same time.
As for the reason they got married, it certainly had nothing to do with marriage fraud. Yu Qianyan saying that was just a moment of anger, a random excuse to vent after suffering through the whole night. In reality, she knew the truth.
“Yu Qianyan” certainly owed Rong Shu, but if the original body hadn’t harbored evil intentions and taken a fancy to Rong Shu’s looks, the Rong family wouldn’t have thought to use Rong Shu as bait to set a trap. Even if 80 percent of the responsibility lay with the Rong family, the original body couldn’t wash away her own faults.
Since Yu Qianyan had taken over the original body’s identity, she naturally had to inherit her “debts” as well. Therefore, no matter what Rong Shu was like, she didn’t regret the decision she had made.
But then again, marriage is one thing, and understanding the other person’s true nature versus being blinded by appearances is a world of difference. Yu Qianyan felt that her grievance was quite justified.
However, was Rong Shu being intentional every time she played the victim, acted weak, or begged for sympathy? If it was intentional, was this deliberate performance, or in other words, deception, unforgivable?
Yu Qianyan turned over, her thumb rubbing against the ring on her hand unconsciously as she questioned herself in her heart.
Yes, and no.
Rong Shu’s situation in the Rong family had indeed been difficult, walking on thin ice, which was an undeniable fact.
As an Omega with average aptitude, aside from beauty, Rong Shu truly had no capital to contend with powerful forces.
As for begging for sympathy, the slight pity and compassion of others might have been the greatest leverage Rong Shu could grasp in her daily life. Especially when facing a powerful, wealthy, and talented fiancée, was there anything wrong with Rong Shu intentionally or unintentionally magnifying her own pitiableness and weakness to exchange for extra tenderness and care?
Could she not strive to obtain a better life?
Rong Shu hadn’t committed any crimes, nor had she harmed anyone else. She was just playing some mind games with the Alpha she was already engaged to. Whether it was a lack of security or wanting to gain as much of her Alpha’s love and pity as possible before marriage to solidify the engagement, it was all limited to the two of them. In essence, what was the difference between this and some harmless AO romantic play?
Taking a step back, Yu Qianyan had arranged for Rong Shu to attend military school, study swordsmanship, and improve her rank precisely because she hoped Rong Shu would grow and become stronger. So, if Rong Shu’s attitude toward her was no longer the initial caution and fawning, but instead she started talking back, throwing tantrums, and being unreasonable, starting to feel relaxed and confident in this relationship, and willing to open her heart to her, treating her as someone to be trusted and relied upon, weren’t these the very things she had been striving to achieve?
If that was the case, what was there to feel aggrieved about?
The deception and grievances Yu Qianyan thought she was suffering now were precisely the best medals of honor for a qualified spouse. Instead of being dissatisfied, she should feel happy.
So, going back to the original question, what kind of person is Rong Shu? The answer was obvious.
What kind of person Rong Shu is doesn’t matter. What matters is that Rong Shu is Yu Qianyan’s Omega.
Let her be a little aggrieved. Think of those uncles and aunts in the sect who had partners. No matter how wild and free they were before marriage, they all had to obediently bow their heads to their partners after marriage and consider being lectured a privilege.
Although she and Rong Shu couldn’t be a real couple, which was one of the things she owed Rong Shu, they were legally wedded partners. What could happen from being bullied by her own Omega?
Yu Qianyan spent the better part of the night sorting out this logic. She felt the suffocating pressure in her chest dissipate, closed her eyes, and fell asleep contentedly.
By the time it was nearly noon the next day, loud banging on the door startled the newlyweds from their sleep.
Yu Qianyan went to open the door, only to be met with Yu Qishan’s livid face. Only then did she remember that after she had pulled Rong Shu away from the dance floor the day before, she had been too busy with the series of unexpected events to report their whereabouts to Yu Qishan. She felt awkward and speechless for a moment.
Yu Qishan sneered, pushed past the troublesome daughter blocking the doorway, and strode into the suite, looking around to inspect the situation.
The suite wasn’t particularly disheveled. It was empty, with no one else around, and the air was clean and crisp, devoid of any lingering scent of cigarettes or alcohol from a wild party. Yu Qishan’s expression softened slightly.
The bathroom was a bit messier, with half a tub of cold water still inside, and a few towels on the floor. However, this was within the range of normal. Yu Qishan nodded inwardly.
After a while, Yu Qishan had finished checking all the other areas and found nothing unusual, so she pointed to the bedroom door and told Yu Qianyan to open it for her.
Yu Qianyan looked troubled.
“What? Is there someone hiding inside, or something hidden? You just got married and you’re already causing trouble for me?!” Yu Qishan angrily smacked Yu Qianyan on the back, “Open the door for me, now!”
“Also, where is Rong Shu? Where did you hide her?”
Yu Qianyan pointed to the bedroom door. Seeing Yu Qishan’s disbelieving face, she had no choice but to go up and knock on the door, asking softly, “Rong Shu, are you dressed? Is it convenient for me to open the door now?”
“Yes, it is.” The female voice from inside the room sounded a bit hoarse, not as clear as usual.
As Yu Qianyan unlocked the door, she thought to herself that Rong Shu must have just woken up, which was why her voice was so raspy.
When she finished unlocking the door and turned around, she was met with Yu Qishan’s intense, accusatory gaze. She was even silently cursed as a “beast,” leaving her feeling quite bewildered.
Unexpectedly, this innocent expression somehow offended Yu Qishan again, earning Yu Qianyan another heavy slap on her arm.
Yu Qishan hadn’t held back with this slap. Yu Qianyan’s arm hurt terribly, but she dared not rub it immediately, so she silently moved back, keeping her distance to avoid getting into more trouble for no reason.
Although Yu Qishan had demanded the door be opened, she still waited at the entrance after Rong Shu had answered, not rushing in.
It wasn’t until Rong Shu took the initiative to pull the door wide open that Yu Qishan gave her a kind smile and entered the room to inspect it.
The first place she looked was the trash can in the bedroom.
There was nothing else in the trash can, only two used suppression agent syringes. Looking up, a brand-new adult product was displayed conspicuously on the nightstand, its packaging not even removed. Yu Qishan turned back and gave her daughter a deep look, her expression complex and indiscernible.
After that, Yu Qishan checked the closet and under the bed in turn. Finally, she even picked up the pillows to shake and fluff them, confirming that no unauthorized person or item was hidden in the bedroom. Only then did her expression clear up completely, and she started chatting pleasantly with Rong Shu.
Yu Qianyan stood to the side, watching the old and the young chatting enthusiastically. She felt completely redundant and began to boredly recite sword techniques and mental cultivation methods in her head.
Once the conversation with Rong Shu was finished, Yu Qishan turned her head and gestured with her eyes for Yu Qianyan to wait in the outer room, as she had something to say to her privately.
Rong Shu immediately showed great tact by volunteering to stay in the bedroom to tidy up clothes, and she even made sure to close the door, leaving enough space for the mother and daughter.
Yu Qishan didn’t stand on ceremony. She found a seat some distance away and said to Yu Qianyan in a low voice, “You guessed right. The landing pad yesterday was indeed tampered with. The three broken fasteners had been sawed through and glued back on. They couldn’t bear weight, and they couldn’t take any stress. It’s lucky you didn’t press the remote at the time, otherwise, even if Rong Shu hadn’t been injured, she would have fallen pretty hard.”
“Have you found out who did it?” With the suspicion confirmed, Yu Qianyan’s expression immediately turned cold, her face like water.
“It should be the Ninth Prince.”
“The Ninth Prince, Qi Xiaoxiao? Why? Rong Shu had absolutely no interaction with him before. Was it just because she didn’t endure his scolding obediently on the engagement day, and I helped talk back?”
“Who knows? Maybe it’s that old thing Xiong Weian making trouble behind the scenes again. But regardless, the investigation stops here. Don’t mention it again.”
Yu Qianyan didn’t respond. Although she didn’t refute, the lines on her face looked cold and hard, clearly quite unconvinced.
Regarding the landing pad, Yu Qishan had stopped investigating once she found the Ninth Prince. She didn’t dare to probe any deeper, thinking that since Rong Shu wasn’t actually injured, they could just be more vigilant from now on.
At this juncture, all they could hope for was to protect themselves.
Previously, when Yu Qishan discovered that Yu Qianyan had taken Rong Shu to disappear at the social dance, she had been shocked. She thought this rebellious daughter had returned to her old ways immediately after getting married, and she was terrified that she would do something illicit with Rong Shu. Being unable to leave herself, she could only send people to secretly search all night long.
As it turned out, the young couple hadn’t run far, hadn’t done anything wild, and hadn’t even performed the permanent marking that should have taken place on their wedding night.
It was truly amazing. Before marriage, this rebellious daughter would have caused a scene anywhere in the Capital Star, but upon meeting Rong Shu, she had become a saint of chastity and purity. Where was the wanton and unruly behavior from before? It seemed she truly loved Rong Shu deeply.
Thinking of Yu Qianyan’s care for Rong Shu, Yu Qishan sighed deeply, feeling guilty, but she had to offer a warning, “Qianyan, you have to learn to accept and endure.”
Seeing that Yu Qianyan still wouldn’t answer, Yu Qishan brought up the reason why Qi Xiaoxiao couldn’t attend the wedding, saying he had secretly run off to propose to Xiong Yi and had been rejected by Xiong Yi. He had cried and made a scene in the palace for many days and had been severely scolded by the Emperor and grounded.
Yu Qianyan looked at Yu Qishan with quite a bit of surprise. This was the first time she had taken the initiative to tell her about the palace’s secrets. Associating this with the snippets Yu Qishan had inadvertently revealed before, she felt a slightly ominous premonition.
After finishing this gossip, Yu Qishan saw that Yu Qianyan had reacted, so she thought she had let her daughter vent enough, put the matter aside, and turned to say that the arrangements for Rong Shu to attend military school had been settled. The new identification card would arrive in a few days, and other things were mostly prepared. She told Yu Qianyan to try to take Rong Shu out as little as possible before school started, to avoid causing trouble.
Yu Qianyan took the opportunity to bring up the honey-moon extension, which immediately received great praise from Yu Qishan.
Of course, she mainly praised Rong Shu for being sensible and a good child.
Not long after, Yu Qishan left first. Before she left, she told Yu Qianyan to pack up quickly and take Rong Shu home early.
Yu Qianyan acknowledged this. After seeing Yu Qishan out, she turned back and caught a glimpse of the bedroom door, which had opened a crack at some point, and which then slammed shut the moment she looked.
Yu Qianyan’s heart softened instantly. She walked over quickly but didn’t push the door open at the entrance, nor did she expose Rong Shu’s concealment. She just stood outside the door for a moment in silence before saying softly to the room, “I won’t let you suffer in vain, I promise.”
A few seconds later, an “Mm” drifted slowly from inside the room.
