- Chapter 11 - Liquid Courage
Li Muli: Well then, in this rebirth story, the bigshot always wants to kiss me.
“Focus, my dear Lili.” Noticing her distraction, Fu Chengyan clasped her hand and deepened the kiss.
Li Muli closed her eyes and slowly began responding to the man before her.
Tender, romantic, and deeply affectionate, this was them in this moment.
“Ahhh! Fu Chengyan! We’ve been in the dressing room for an hour and a half already, wuuu.” The moment Fu Chengyan released her, the girl grumbled in protest.
A low chuckle rumbled from Fu Chengyan’s chest. “Mm, let’s get you something to eat.”
The man stood up smoothly with the girl in his arms and moved to open the door.
“I can walk by myself.”
But her refusal was futile. Fu Chengyan pulled her closer against his chest. “I don’t want to let go. I want to hold you.”
“Fu Chengyan, you’re such a vexing little enchantress.” Li Muli gritted her teeth but stayed securely nestled in his embrace.
Fine, fine. He could be her tool then.
After all this time, she wasn’t worried about running into anyone familiar anymore.
Hearing her remark, Fu Chengyan lowered his head to kiss her eyelids without saying a word.
She was the real little enchantress, the one who haunted his dreams day and night.
Yet here she was, skillfully turning the tables.
“President Fu, you’re so handsome.”
“President Fu, I’m quite stunning too.”
“Classmate Fu Chengyan, we’re truly a perfect match.”
The tall, elegant man held the petite, adorable girl in his arms one causing mischief, the other smiling indulgently. From a distance, they painted a picture of perfect harmony.
Their silhouettes frozen against the sunset in that moment felt like eternity.
But human joys and sorrows are never interconnected, where some find happiness, others face despair.
Bar.
“Hey beautiful, all alone? Come have a drink with me.” Noticing Qiao Yi sitting in the corner, a man approached to hit on her.
Already irritated, Qiao Yi frowned. “Get lost.”
“Don’t be ungrateful, bitch,” the leader of the group stepped forward, glaring at her.
“She’s a feisty one, Brother Lei. Be gentle,” snickered a narrow-eyed man beside him.
The man called Brother Lei licked his lips lewdly. “Feisty ones are more exciting. I like that.”
Their vulgar remarks continued.
The alcohol haze lifting, Qiao Yi’s mind grew clearer as she calculated how to extract herself without causing a scene.
If she stirred up trouble again, her dear father would probably cut off her allowance.
“You’d better stay away from me. I’m not someone you can afford to mess with,” Qiao Yi stated calmly, noticing their hesitation. “It’s not worth ruining yourselves over some temporary pleasure, don’t you think?”
“Big brother, she has a point,” the narrow-eyed man glanced at the leader.
“Idiot! How do we know she’s not bluffing? A rose with thorns is always the sweetest.” Brother Lei licked his lips again.
“Heh, ‘There’s no greater romance than dying under the peony.’ Come keep me company, little beauty.” Grinning, Brother Lei raised his glass.
Screaming internally, Qiao Yi smiled and stood up, then flung the contents of her glass at the man.
“Ugh, I’d rather keep your mother company!”
The commotion drew attention from those around them.
The manager hurried over, trembling. “Miss Qiao, Mr. Wang, is there some misunderstanding?”
Qiao Yi scanned the room, then tapped the table lightly with her finger. “Manager Liu, since when does Qiao Yi need to serve drinks to anyone?”
“My apologies, Miss Qiao! I’ll handle this immediately.” The manager bowed repeatedly.
Everyone who could come here was either wealthy or noble; there was no one he could afford to offend.
But weighing the pros and cons, Miss Qiao was the cherished daughter of Chairman Qiao, while Mr. Wang was merely a nouveau riche. He knew which one carried more weight.
“Mr. Wang, please leave,” Manager Liu said, facing Wang Lei.
Only then did Wang Lei realize he had offended someone he shouldn’t have and hurriedly apologized, “I’m sorry, Miss Qiao. I had too much to drink. Please don’t hold it against me.”
Qiao Yi rolled her eyes. “Get lost, now.”
“Alright, alright, I’m leaving right away,” Wang Lei said, withdrawing from the hall with his lackeys in tow.
“Damn it, I kicked a steel plate. That bitch,” Wang Lei cursed under his breath as he walked away.
The narrow-eyed man squinted and suggested, “Brother Lei, we can’t just take this insult. We can find a time to… deal with her, like before.”
Wang Lei shot him a glance. “You handle it. If it works out, we can enjoy it together.”
“Got it, Brother Lei,” the narrow-eyed man replied, his eyes flickering upward as he licked his lips, as if already savoring the thought.
Qiao Yi leaned back on the sofa and called a certain friend who prioritized romance over friendship. “Lili, my Lili, I almost got bullied, boohoo.”
Li Muli pushed away the man clinging to her and asked urgently, “Where are you now? I’ll come pick you up. What happened?”
“Boohoo, you don’t love me anymore. You care more about your man than your friend.”
“Alright, alright. Send me your location, and I’ll come get you right now. Be good, okay?” Li Muli soothed gently.
“Okay,” Qiao Yi agreed, playing with her fingers.
Then she obediently sat in the bar, waiting to be picked up.
Li Muli turned to Fu Chenyan and explained, “I have something to take care of and need to leave.”
Fu Chenyan lowered his head, toying with her fingers, and mumbled in a pitiful voice, “But we haven’t finished our meal yet.”
Li Muli raised an eyebrow at his sulky expression. “Then why don’t we go together?”
“We haven’t finished eating.” he continued to mutter softly.
He looked utterly dejected and pitiable.
Li Muli couldn’t help but laugh inwardly. She wondered who it was that had been clinging to her and being all lovey-dovey during the meal demanding to be fed and asking for kisses.
Well, he was her own little troublemaker, and she had to spoil him herself.
Li Muli patted his head. “Baby Fu, let’s go pick someone up first, okay?”
Fu Chenyan pouted. “Fine, whatever you say, baby.”
Li Muli smiled, reaching out to interlace her fingers with his. “Hold my hand tight, Mr. Fu.”
Fu Chenyan clasped her hand back, a faint smile curling his lips.
She really adored this sweet version of Mr. Fu his sweetness was off the charts.
But in the places she couldn’t see, Fu Chenyan’s gaze gradually darkened, the earlier pitiful act completely gone.
His baby cared more about others in her heart than him.
He had to work hard, very hard, to drive everyone else out of her heart.
“Lili, my darling, boohoo, I missed you so much!” The moment they met, Qiao Yi threw herself into Li Muli’s arms.
She completely missed the murderous glare from the man behind them.
Li Muli hugged her back and patted her shoulder. “I’m here now.”
She felt a pang of guilt. It had been so long since she was reborn, and she still hadn’t visited her best friend.
She had been avoiding everything from her past life.
Except for him.
Sensing Li Muli’s mood, Qiao Yi released her and gave her a light punch on the shoulder. “Li Muli, you can’t be this pathetic, can you?”
Li Muli nodded. “I’m exactly this pathetic.”
Qiao Yi rolled her eyes and slung an arm around her shoulder. “Let’s go home. I’ll spoil you tonight.”
Li Muli nodded obediently, “Alright, Sister Yiyi.”
Qiao Yi reached out and pinched her cheek so docile and tender.
Fu Chenyan’s frown deepened. Was he, a full-grown man, completely invisible here?
He cleared his throat lightly, and both women turned to look at him simultaneously.
“President Fu?” Qiao Yi glanced at Li Muli in confusion. “Don’t tell me this is your boyfriend.”
Li Muli rubbed her nose and nodded.
“Holy crap, my girl’s got game!” Qiao Yi exclaimed boisterously, completely forgetting her usual fear of Fu Chenyan.
Ah, the courage bestowed by alcohol.
