From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 70
That evening, Ji Zhiye returned home suddenly feeling sore and achy all over.
Wei Qin helped massage her back, the worry in her eyes refusing to fade.
“Don’t go tomorrow. Your body can’t take it,” Wei Qin advised as she kneaded.
“I can’t. There’s an important meeting tomorrow. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t attend.”
Ji Yunuo poured a cup of hot water for Ji Zhiye and asked, “Mom, why did your back suddenly start hurting?”
Of course, Ji Zhiye wouldn’t tell her daughter that the pain was from being spun around several times by Wei Qin otherwise, her dignity as an alpha mother would be ruined. She chuckled and said, “Probably just rheumatism.”
Xiao Yanjin, who was sitting beside Ji Yunuo, couldn’t help but laugh.
“Sister,” Xiao Yanjin tugged Ji Yunuo into the kitchen.
“What is it?” Ji Yunuo embraced her delicate little alpha.
“I have some pain relief patches here. If we put them on Mom, she won’t be in pain tomorrow.” Xiao Yanjin handed a pack of patches to Ji Yunuo.
Ji Yunuo: “Why don’t you just give them to her yourself?”
“It’s better coming from you.” Xiao Yanjin lowered her head, somewhat embarrassed. “After all, you’re their daughter. They’ll be happier if it’s from you.”
Ji Yunuo murmured an “Oh,” feeling that her little alpha was just too thoughtful. She patted her head before stepping out to give the patches to her parents.
Of course, she made sure to tell them that Xiao Yanjin had specifically bought them for Ji Zhiye.
“Yanjin bought these? Why didn’t she give them to me herself?” Ji Zhiye asked.
Ji Yunuo explained the situation.
A smile curled at Ji Zhiye’s lips as she nodded in satisfaction. “That child is really considerate.”
Wei Qin, however, listened with an inscrutable expression.
Was this alpha really that virtuous?
Ji Yunuo went to Xiao Yanjin’s room and, upon seeing her delicate little alpha, immediately pulled her into a hug.
“I have good news for you, my mother seems to have taken quite a liking to you.”
“Really?!” Though Xiao Yanjin had expected this, she still picked Ji Yunuo up and spun her around in excitement.
Ji Yunuo, worried she might strain her arms, quickly patted her shoulders. “Alright, put me down.”
Xiao Yanjin wanted to say, I’m not like your mother, I’m perfectly strong! But she obediently set her down anyway.
However, she kept her pinned, making no move to let her leave.
“Stay in your consort’s chambers tonight, sister,” Xiao Yanjin pleaded pitifully. “I couldn’t sleep a wink without you last night. I was tossing and turning endlessly.”
The little drama queen was back at it again… Ji Yunuo didn’t believe for a second that she had been sleepless Shi Zhengyi had even joked that Xiao Yanjin passed out the moment her head hit the pillow, sleeping like a log.
Ji Yunuo wrapped her arms around Xiao Yanjin’s neck, her eyes shimmering with amusement. “Then you’ll have to win me over.”
A cunning glint flashed in Xiao Yanjin’s eyes as she grinned, revealing a row of pearly whites. “I’ll make sure you’re satisfied!”
Like the night breeze slipping in unnoticed, everything came alive once more.
Soft murmurs filled the air, stirring emotions too intense to resist.
Lost in passion, glistening trails clung to slender lengths, revealing flushed peaks in full clarity.
Then, footsteps suddenly echoed down the hallway.
The sounds paused.
“Nuo Nuo.” Wei Qin’s voice called from a distance.
Ji Yunuo’s fingers clenched the sheets, Wei Qin was looking for her.
Xiao Yanjin’s heart pounded wildly, yet an exhilarating thrill urged her to continue.
Ji Yunuo grabbed her hand, frowning. “Stop.”
Xiao Yanjin obediently murmured an “Oh.”
The phone on the bedside table rang. Ji Yunuo picked it up, it was Wei Qin. She answered, “Mom?”
Listening to her sister’s hushed voice, Xiao Yanjin couldn’t help but feel amused, pressing close as she breathed softly against her.
“Where were you? I knocked on your room, but no one answered,” Wei Qin asked.
“Ah Jin and I were out shopping,” Ji Yunuo lied to her mother, a rare occurrence.
Xiao Yanjin couldn’t resist glancing up, catching the flustered expression on Ji Yunuo’s face. She found it utterly hilarious and bit down lightly.
Ji Yunuo suddenly let out a soft “Mm,” her back arching slightly.
“What was that noise?” Wei Qin, well aware of how inseparable young couples could be having been through it herself, figured they might be sneaking around somewhere. She decided not to pry.
“Nothing, just a mosquito.”
Ji Yunuo’s cheeks flushed pink, her fair skin dotted with faint red marks plausible enough for mosquito bites.
Xiao Yanjin traced a small circle on her skin and huffed. Hmph, comparing me to a mosquito!
Is a mosquito as cute as I am?
She bit down again, this time with a slow, teasing suck. She knew exactly which spots were off-limits, playing her game with practiced ease.
Watching the subtle tremors beneath her, Xiao Yanjin smirked before taking her time, savoring her like cake, like an ice pop.
Ji Yunuo gasped. This insatiable little demon!
“Come back early, don’t stay out too long.”
“Okay.”
The sound of footsteps in the hallway finally faded as they descended the stairs.
Xiao Yanjin giggled uncontrollably. “Sister, didn’t I do well just now?”
Ji Yunuo glared. “Shameless!”
Xiao Yanjin reached out. “Then I’ll just have to be even more shameless later.”
Ji Yunuo stubbornly refused to let her touch, determined to make her yield.
Xiao Yanjin had no choice but to relent.
The next morning, with urgent matters at the company, Ji Yunuo and Ji Zhiye left early.
Wei Qin came downstairs alone for breakfast and noticed several new dishes on the table, ones she’d never seen before.
Xiao Yanjin, wearing an apron, quickly wiped her hands with a clean towel upon seeing Wei Qin and moved to assist her. “Mom, perfect timing. Breakfast is ready for you.”
Wei Qin ignored the offered help, her eyes scanning the spread: pan-fried buns, golden sponge cake, pork soup dumplings, and egg crepes stuffed with tenderloin, sausage, and lettuce.
In her youth, Wei Qin had been quite the foodie, but after relentless criticism about her figure from netizens, she’d gradually given up many of her favorite dishes. Her appetite had shrunk, and with age, she’d developed a detached, almost indifferent attitude toward food, a sense of meh.
Frowning, she asked, “Did you make all this?”
Xiao Yanjin chuckled modestly. “I’m no master, but I can whip up a few things. I thought the breakfasts lately have been a bit too plain, so I wanted to treat you to something nice.”
Wei Qin narrowed her eyes. “So you think the Ji family’s breakfasts are terrible?”
“Of course not,” Xiao Yanjin replied smoothly, as if she’d anticipated the question. “I just thought Mom looks a bit too thin. You should enjoy good food, it’d put my mind at ease.”
Wei Qin studied her. Xiao Yanjin stood there obediently, expression calm, but her eyes held a hint of concern and a touch of wounded innocence.
Damn it, I just want to pinch those cheeks.
Wei Qin suppressed a shiver. No wonder my daughter fell for her—this girl’s a full-blown enchantress!
Not wanting to reject her daughter-in-law’s efforts outright, Wei Qin politely picked up a pan-fried bun. Xiao Yanjin immediately poured a mix of vinegar and a dash of chili oil into a small dish.
She explained helpfully, “Mom, you should dip it in the vinegar. I heard you’re not big on spice, so this chili oil is more for flavor, it’s not actually that hot.”
Wei Qin gave a soft hum of acknowledgment. Over the years, Ji Zhiye had indeed spoiled her to the point of being quite particular, and Xiao Yanjin’s current attentiveness was no different from how Ji Zhiye used to dote on her.
Truth be told, she rather enjoyed being pampered like this.
Wei Qin took a bite, and the fragrant meat juices dribbled down. Xiao Yanjin quickly grabbed a napkin to wipe it away. “Mom, be careful. To make sure the pan-fried buns were fresh, I woke up at five to knead the dough and prepare the filling.”
“Five o’clock?” Wei Qin was surprised.
Xiao Yanjin suddenly seemed a little shy and let out an embarrassed “Oh!”—”It’s no trouble getting up that early. So, Mom, how does it taste?”
Wei Qin took another bite. The flavor was indeed excellent, the spicy oil awakened her taste buds, the aroma of vinegar lingered, the meat was fresh, and the seasoning was just right, neither too salty nor too bland. It was clear the person who made these had put real care into them.
Xiao Yanjin had topped the soup dumplings with a generous amount of shredded egg and placed them in front of Wei Qin.
“Mom, if it’s too dry, have some soup. I also made these soup dumplings at five in the morning.” Xiao Yanjin deliberately emphasized “five o’clock” but then tried to downplay it. “I know you like it a bit tangy, so I added just a touch of vinegar. Hope you like it.”
Wei Qin gave another hum and took a sip of the soup, rich and savory. She ate one of the dumplings; the wrapper was silky smooth, and the filling was firm and juicy.
“You’ve really put thought into this.”
“I just didn’t want you to get too thin,” Xiao Yanjin replied with an awkward laugh.
Wei Qin wiped her hands. Spoiled as she was, she wasn’t stupid, she knew exactly what Xiao Yanjin was angling for.
“You don’t need to butter me up. I’ve always hated people who try to flatter their way in.”
Xiao Yanjin paused, feigning innocence. “Mom, what are you talking about?”
Wei Qin smirked. “Don’t think I don’t see what you’re after. Dream on. If you want me to warm up to you, it’ll take time.”
Xiao Yanjin let out a quiet “Oh,” her eyes shimmering with an almost Omega-like vulnerability. “Mom, I’m sorry. I overstepped.”
She picked up the used bowls and silently washed them in the kitchen.
Wei Qin watched her retreating figure, struck by how dejected she looked, and called out, puzzled, “You really don’t have to wash them yourself. Just get a maid to handle it.”
“It’s fine,” Xiao Yanjin replied softly, her voice dripping with exaggerated sorrow. “They’re all busy. I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry about me, Mom.”
Wei Qin fell silent, a pang of guilt suddenly gnawing at her. Had Xiao Yanjin really just made breakfast out of kindness? Was she not actually trying to win her over?
The more she thought about it, the worse she felt, and the guilt only grew heavier.
Ji Yunuo had been worried Xiao Yanjin might mishandle things and anger Wei Qin after all, she knew her mother wasn’t someone easily swayed by flattery.
(She’d once given Wei Qin the cold shoulder for three days after an argument.)
But it wasn’t until a dinner at a high-end restaurant one evening that she realized just how masterful Xiao Yanjin’s techniques were.
The four of them were dining together, the menu leaning heavily Western.
Xiao Yanjin considerately cut Ji Yunuo’s steak for her.
Wei Qin asked, “How’s Nuonuo doing at the company?”
Ji Zhiye praised, “Nuonuo’s sharp, catches on right away. She’s only been interning for a month, but she’s already earned praise from several executives, so I went ahead and made her a full-time employee.”
Wei Qin frowned. “Isn’t that too fast? People will assume she got the position through connections.”
Ji Zhiye shrugged. “Let them talk. Nuonuo’s going to be the future head of the Ji family. Who’d dare challenge that?”
Wei Qin gave a noncommittal hum and glanced at Xiao Yanjin, who was still meticulously cutting Ji Yunuo’s steak.
“Be careful, it’s hot, sis.” Xiao Yanjin held out a piece of beef on her fork towards Ji Yunuo’s mouth.
Ji Yunuo, seemingly preoccupied with company matters while scrolling through her phone, absentmindedly took the bite.
In this regard, she was indeed more attentive than her own wife.
Wei Qin took a sullen sip of wine, recalling the words exchanged that morning, and a wave of guilt surged within her.
“Mom, did you wear peach-red lipstick today?” Noticing Wei Qin’s gaze, Xiao Yanjin secretly delighted in the attention and struck up a conversation.
Wei Qin paused. “Why do you ask?”
“I just think classic red suits you better.”
“Oh?”
“Your skin is fair and flawless, and your aura is elegant. A true red complements your overall demeanor like red plum blossoms against snow. It perfectly matches your dignified, noble image.”
Wei Qin’s lips curled into an unconscious smile.
Xiao Yanjin then pulled a lipstick case from her bag and handed it to Wei Qin. “That’s why I wanted to give you this as a gift.”
It had been a long time since Ji Zhihuan bought her lipstick, so this was a genuine surprise for Wei Qin.
“You’re such a thoughtful child.”
“Giving gifts to my mother-in-law is only natural.”
Xiao Yanjin didn’t forget Ji Zhihuan either. “Mother, this is for you. I heard the company has been busy lately, and you’ve been working overtime a lot. So I got you some calming tea, it improves sleep quality and helps avoid late nights. Perfect for workdays.”
Ji Zhihuan chuckled. “Oh, our daughter-in-law is truly considerate.”
Ji Yunuo finally looked up, surprised to see both mothers, who had previously been critical of Xiao Yanjin now wearing approving smiles. She almost thought she was seeing things.
Xiao Yanjin smiled faintly but didn’t neglect her future wife.
“Sis, I have a gift for you too.” She took out a neatly wrapped box adorned with a delicate pink ribbon.
Curious, Ji Yunuo peeked inside, then immediately snapped it shut.
Wei Qin and Ji Zhihuan leaned in. “What is it?”
Under the dim lighting, no one noticed Ji Yunuo’s flushed cheeks.
“Oh, just some clothes.” Ji Yunuo shot Xiao Yanjin a glare, who responded with an intentionally graceful smirk.
Once home, Ji Yunuo flung the “clothes” at Xiao Yanjin and said coldly, “You wear it. Or should I?”
Xiao Yanjin sprawled on the bed, feigning helplessness. “Sis, my arms don’t work. You’ll have to do it.”
Ji Yunuo gritted her teeth, itching to bite her neck in frustration.
Clothes? This was practically borderline cosplay!
