Found Him! My 'Glass-Hearted' Ex is a Pop-Up Star - Chapter 12
“Lost memories?”
Ying Ruo blinked. Duan Zhuyan’s fingertips were grazing his scalp almost imperceptibly. It tickled slightly, causing Ying Ruo to tilt his head a little to the right. He asked softly, “Is finding my memories really all I need to do?”
Duan Zhuyan’s expression was cold as he gave a faint, aloof nod.
“I do not need to pay back the money?” Ying Ruo pressed.
“You do not.”
“Really? Truly? Not a single penny?”
“Really,” Duan Zhuyan clicked his tongue and frowned. “Tsk, why would you worry about paying back such a small amount?”
“My goodness,” Ying Ruo said, shocked.
What was the difference between this and getting the money for free? Was God finally pitying him for his miserable life? He could not believe such a good thing was happening. He could not help but exclaim sincerely, “Oh my God, Duan Zhuyan, you are such a good person. You are truly a kind creditor.”
Duan Zhuyan was speechless.
Ying Ruo’s eyes were bright, and small dimples appeared on his fair face. His hair looked fluffy and soft, making him look like a little puffball. However, Ying Ruo wondered if this rich guy was bad at business. Trading a hundred thousand pounds just for some memories seemed a bit reckless. Did he simply have too much money and nowhere to spend it?
He added, “Actually, losing these memories has not really affected my life. Is it absolutely necessary to find them? Do you want to consider some other…”
Duan Zhuyan frowned and interrupted him irritably, “I told you to find them, so find them. Why do you talk so much?”
Ying Ruo immediately ducked his head and shut his mouth. However, he still wanted to understand the situation clearly. He stole a few glances at Duan Zhuyan before asking cautiously, “What if I cannot find them?”
“If you cannot find them, keep looking,” Duan Zhuyan raised an eyebrow. “What? Do you actually want to pay the money back? Do you really want to sell yourself to me?”
Ying Ruo thought to himself that such a thing would not be necessary.
Duan Zhuyan looked at the person in front of him and felt his heart soften. He could not stay fierce. He cupped Ying Ruo’s small face in both hands; the feeling of the youth’s soft cheeks in his palms caused his temper to vanish instantly. His voice became involuntarily gentle.
“The doctor will prescribe some medicine for you later. Make sure to take it on time. Eat three meals a day, too. Now that the debt is settled, stop working. Go to bed early and get some rest every day.”
It started off quite warmly, but Duan Zhuyan immediately followed up with a threat: “If I ever see you working in another bar or milk tea shop again, you are dead.”
Ying Ruo: OxO.
Although Ying Ruo did not have a strong personal desire to recover his memories, since it was the creditor’s request, it was only right to try. However, while ten thousand pounds was acceptable, he did not dare take the remaining ninety thousand. He knew Duan Zhuyan was a good person, but Ying Ruo was a law student. This money was not documented as a voluntary gift. If a dispute arose or if Duan Zhuyan used it to make new demands, things would get complicated.
Ying Ruo looked up and observed Duan Zhuyan’s expression. “I will work hard on the memories, but I cannot accept the remaining ninety thousand pounds.”
“You kindly helped me pay my debt, and I agreed to find my lost memories. That settles it. I have no reason to take extra money,” Ying Ruo said seriously. “Besides, you are my ex-boyfriend. Our relationship is complicated, which makes it even more reason not to…”
Duan Zhuyan angrily pinched his cheek and said fiercely, “From now on, I do not want to hear the word ‘ex-boyfriend’ again.”
Ying Ruo thought that this man was very demanding. Being a reasonable person, Ying Ruo reached out from under the blanket and tugged at Duan Zhuyan’s forearm to get him to stop pinching. He said kindly, “Alright. But I still have to return this money to you.”
Duan Zhuyan lowered his hand and looked at Ying Ruo arrogantly. “I never take back money once I have given it away.”
“No, I will not accept it,” Ying Ruo insisted. “Since I gave you my word, I will honor our agreement. Ninety thousand pounds is not a small sum. I would feel guilty taking it.”
He tugged at the man’s sleeve. His pink fingertips looked beautiful, and his voice was clear and pleasant. “Please, Duan Zhuyan?”
Duan Zhuyan felt momentarily dazed. He thought to himself that this was far too cute. His ears began to heat up, and he rubbed the back of his neck. His knuckles tightened as the redness spread to his throat. He turned his head away in embarrassment and said, “Suit yourself.”
Seeing him give in, Ying Ruo happily picked up his phone. After staring at the online banking app for a few seconds, he looked up blankly. “Ah, how do I make a transfer?”
Duan Zhuyan was silent. It seemed Ying Ruo had forgotten how to make transfers after his amnesia. Without Duan Zhuyan’s bank details, he could not send money anyway. This was perfect. Duan Zhuyan wanted to find an excuse to make him keep the money; having some cash was always better than being broke.
Duan Zhuyan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. After a moment of silence, he spoke coldly, “Since you do not know how to transfer it, just keep the money with you for now. Consider it managing it for me. When I am in a relationship, I usually let my partner handle the finances. I…”
Suddenly, Ying Ruo interrupted him, “Oh, okay! The transfer went through.”
Duan Zhuyan: “?”
Duan Zhuyan stepped forward to look. He had forgotten that they had linked their bank accounts when they were dating. Ying Ruo clearly had not heard what Duan Zhuyan just said, so he asked, “What did you say just now?”
Duan Zhuyan was speechless. He realized he had been so charmed that he started talking nonsense about partners and managing money, even though they were broken up. Fortunately, Ying Ruo had not heard him; otherwise, he would have looked incredibly overconfident.
Regardless, he had to find another way to give this guy some money.
“I am truly grateful to you. Otherwise, I would not have known when I could pay this back,” Ying Ruo said, scratching his cheek. “However, I would like to negotiate something with you.”
Duan Zhuyan pulled a long face again. “Speak.”
“Regarding finding the memories,” Ying Ruo started. “Is it urgent? If not, can we wait a little while?”
Duan Zhuyan gritted his teeth. He thought to himself that it was extremely urgent. He was dying of anxiety. Just as he was about to speak, Ying Ruo continued with a look of exhaustion.
“I have three case studies I have not read, a presentation next Friday, an essay to submit, and mooting starts soon. I have a lot of deadlines and classes recently. Can we start after I finish these tasks?”
Duan Zhuyan’s frustration vanished. After a brief silence, he gave in. “Fine.”
Studies came first, after all. He ran a hand through his hair and compromised. “But do not slack off on my request. I am still your creditor.”
Ying Ruo nodded like a little chick pecking at grain. “Yes, yes, yes.”
Duan Zhuyan said no more. He stayed with Ying Ruo until the full-body checkup was finished, bought him food, watched him eat every bite, and finally drove him home once he was sure there were no major issues. When they reached the apartment building, Duan Zhuyan felt reluctant to leave and tried to think of an excuse to stay longer.
Ying Ruo, however, was ruthlessly efficient. He gave a cheerful “Thank you!” before slamming the car door shut.
Duan Zhuyan thought to himself that he would let it go this time. They still had plenty of time.
The next day, Ying Ruo woke up feeling refreshed for the first time in a long while. It was a sunny day with a deep blue sky that looked like polished glass. Ying Ruo had transferred the money to the hospital the previous night and felt a sense of relief after paying the medical fees.
He had a morning lecture followed by a seminar. He had stayed up late to read the literature for the seminar, yet he did not feel tired at all when he woke up. He wondered if this was the feeling of being debt-free.
Ying Ruo changed his clothes, quickly heated a piece of bread and a glass of milk in the microwave, and headed to school. With Halloween approaching, many shops along the way were decorated for the holiday. Most of his classmates seemed to have their minds elsewhere.
“You look like you are in a good mood,” Su Yizhe said when he saw Ying Ruo’s energetic face after class. “Did something good happen?”
“Yes,” Ying Ruo said with a smile. “Something very good.”
Su Yizhe was a Chinese student in the class. He had been Ying Ruo’s study partner before the amnesia and was one of the few people who knew about his condition. He was a kind person who had shared many study materials and notes.
“Are you doing anything for Halloween?” Su Yizhe asked. “Do you want to go to a club together?”
Ying Ruo packed his backpack and asked, “Is there a holiday for Halloween?”
“Of course not,” Su Yizhe replied. “Halloween in the UK is not as grand as in the US, but it is still fun.”
Ying Ruo thought about the club. If Duan Zhuyan found out he was in a bar again, he would surely get angry, even if Ying Ruo was not working there. He wondered why he was suddenly thinking of Duan Zhuyan. That being said, he really needed to figure out how to recover his memories.
Ying Ruo shouldered his bag and politely declined. “Thank you, but I think I will skip it.”
“No problem. If you want to go somewhere else, just ask me,” Su Yizhe said, assuming Ying Ruo was just a studious student who did not party. “Perhaps visiting different places will help you recover your memory.”
Ying Ruo thought Su Yizhe made a lot of sense. “You are right.”
Excluding study time and other factors, he did not have much time left to recover the memories of those two months. After saying goodbye to Su Yizhe, Ying Ruo searched online for ways to recover memories.
How to Quickly Recover Memories After Amnesia (Non-Medical Version)

- Use external help: Ask others about important events that happened during the period of amnesia.
Ying Ruo pondered. Had anything important happened during those two months? At that moment, his phone vibrated. It was a message from Duan Zhuyan.
U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: . U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: Where are you?
Ying Ruo had not expected a message from him. He looked around and sent the name of the building where his class was held.
Ying Ruo: I just finished class. Ying Ruo: What is it? [Spinning sticker]
The screen showed that the other person was typing. After about a minute, a message finally popped up.
U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: Oh.
He was typing again. Ying Ruo was not in a hurry and waited for him to finish.
U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: There is a two-star Michelin restaurant in London. U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: Ordinary people have to wait two months for a reservation. The chef for the custom menu flies in from France to cook on-site. U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: But I can walk in. U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: The shop is on Regent Street, just a five-minute drive away.
Ying Ruo read the messages and wondered what the point was, other than confirming that the rich guy was indeed very wealthy.
U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: Before you lost your memory, you really liked the steak and desserts there, especially the Napoleon cake. U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: I have no idea why anyone would like such sickly sweet food.
Ying Ruo blinked. He had actually been there? Then, another message arrived.
U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: [Transfer of 30,000 RMB to you] U-Uni BMS Duan Zhuyan: Treat me to dinner there.
