Found Him! My 'Glass-Hearted' Ex is a Pop-Up Star - Chapter 10
Ying Ruo felt his entire body stiffen.
The man’s body temperature was slightly higher than his own, carrying the chill of the outside air. Yet, as he leaned in, his breath felt incredibly scalding.
He loomed over him, a sturdy arm reaching around his shoulder and neck to reach inward, touching toward the depths. Ying Ruo felt that burning breath brush against his neck. The tingling sensation surged through his body like an electric current, and a deep crimson flush instantly stained his cheeks.
Feeling a bit frightened, he squeezed his eyes shut and instinctively shrank back. Then, with trembling hands, he raised the cup in his grasp to block the space between them.
Duan Zhuyan, whose face pressed right into the hot chocolate, stared.
He lowered his eyes. Below him, a small figure was curled into a ball, shyly tilting his head and using the cup to shield his small face.
Duan Zhuyan remained silent.
“What are you afraid of?” Duan Zhuyan asked.
With that, he reached back, grabbed the seatbelt, pulled it across, and buckled it for Ying Ruo.
Ying Ruo exhaled in relief.
However, the lingering pressure from a moment ago left him shaken. He touched his own face, which felt burning hot. His heart was thumping violently, racing at an incredible speed.
My god, that was terrifying. He felt as though he had just escaped from a tiger’s mouth.
But the “tiger” had no intention of leaving just yet.
“Hey.”
A deep male voice sounded beside his ear. Immediately after, Ying Ruo’s chin was gripped by a large hand, forcing his head back around.
Duan Zhuyan’s eyelids drooped, his gaze inscrutable. “What did you think I was going to do?”
“I,” Ying Ruo was afraid, but his honesty prevailed. Since Duan Zhuyan asked, he answered truthfully. “I thought you were going to kiss me.”
Duan Zhuyan stared.
With his chin held up and his fingers clutching the rim of the cup, Ying Ruo said word for word, “But I have never kissed anyone before, especially not a guy. It is only normal for me to hide and be a little scared if I thought you were going to kiss me, even if you were just trying to buckle my seatbelt.”
This time, it was Duan Zhuyan’s turn to be silent.
Ying Ruo continued to mutter softly but boldly, “Your face was so close just now, it was scary. I—”
Before he could finish, Duan Zhuyan, out of sheer frustration, pinched his cheeks to interrupt him. This caused Ying Ruo’s chatterbox of a mouth to be squeezed into a pout.
“Ha?” Duan Zhuyan stared deep into Ying Ruo’s eyes, his jaw clenched tight. His voice was icy, causing the temperature inside the car to drop instantly. “Why the hell can’t we kiss?”
Ying Ruo’s brain worked at high speed as he stuttered, “You are my ex-boyfriend. That would not be right.”
Duan Zhuyan remained silent.
The air grew still.
Ying Ruo suddenly realized something. “Wait, could it be… have we kissed before?”
Duan Zhuyan remained silent.
Duan Zhuyan looked as though he were about to explode with rage. His face was a mask of “What kind of nonsense are you talking about?”
Ying Ruo, however, was dazed for a moment.
Heavens. They had only dated for two weeks; was he really willing to kiss Duan Zhuyan? Could it be that he liked Duan Zhuyan that much before his amnesia? Although the man was indeed very handsome, had they really moved to kissing that quickly?
In Ying Ruo’s mind, a couple should only kiss after at least a month of dating.
Duan Zhuyan truly could not be bothered to deal with him anymore. His knuckles whitened as he gripped the door frame, the veins on the back of his hand bulging clearly.
The tips of his ears were an unnatural red. He reached out with one hand, grabbed Ying Ruo’s head, and violently messed up his hair. After venting his frustration, Duan Zhuyan slammed the car door shut with a loud “thud.”
Ying Ruo sat with messy hair, confused.
Duan Zhuyan returned to the driver’s seat. At some point, a lollipop had appeared in his mouth. He bit the candy irritably, his hands on the steering wheel and his brow knit tightly. His eyes were dark and gloomy as he started the car.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Ying Ruo stole glances at Duan Zhuyan and swallowed hard. He finally asked, “Um, where are we going?”
Duan Zhuyan shot him a sharp look.
Ying Ruo sheepishly shut his mouth.
The atmosphere in the car remained quiet for a while as shifting lights and shadows drowned the two of them, slowly drifting by. After a moment, Duan Zhuyan crushed the candy in his mouth, stared ahead expressionlessly, and said coldly:
“To the hospital.”
Clealand Hospital.
Duan Zhuyan parked the car and unbuckled his seatbelt.
Ying Ruo glanced out the window. My god, it really is a hospital. It looked incredibly high-end and expensive; the bill would likely cost him an arm and a leg. He was starting to develop PTSD toward private hospitals.
Then, a bundle of clothes was tossed onto Ying Ruo.
Duan Zhuyan’s face was cold, and his tone was none too pleasant. “Get changed and get out of the car.”
Ying Ruo watched Duan Zhuyan get out and close the door. Not daring to disobey, he changed out of the little witch costume back into his warm clothes before stepping out.
The oversized hoodie covered his slender body. Ying Ruo clutched the edge of his clothes and looked at the building. “Can I not go to the hospital?”
Duan Zhuyan raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
Ying Ruo whispered, “I have no money.”
Duan Zhuyan remained silent.
This guy is truly obsessed with money.
However, Duan Zhuyan seemed to think of something. He didn’t say much more, simply grabbing Ying Ruo’s wrist and leading him into the hospital.
Ying Ruo, being dragged along: QAQ. He really had no money!
As soon as he stepped inside, Ying Ruo was stunned by the clean, tidy, and expensive high-end decor. Underfoot were solid slabs of jade-white rock, the walls were made of sound-absorbing material, and the carpets were made of premium fabric.
This private hospital was too wealthy. What kind of important figures came here for treatment? Could the owner of this hospital be royalty?
Duan Zhuyan spoke to a nurse. She nodded repeatedly and immediately led them for a consultation.
Ying Ruo followed behind Duan Zhuyan with small steps. “What are we doing now?”
“Seeing a doctor,” Duan Zhuyan replied.
“Ah, I am fine, I do not need a doctor. This place looks expensive,” Ying Ruo said. “And isn’t it said that medical care in the UK is very slow? It is so late; can we really be seen now?”
Duan Zhuyan was stingy with his words. “Yes.”
The nurse led them to a consultation room. Standing before the door, Ying Ruo saw the words “SVIP” written in large letters.
He began to sweat. “SVIP? Even if you sold me, I could not afford this.”
“Who told you to pay?” Duan Zhuyan swept a glance over him before pushing open the door. His voice remained indifferent, but he dropped a bombshell:
“My family owns this hospital.”
Ying Ruo: “…”
Ying Ruo: “????”
What? Duan Zhuyan’s family owns this hospital!
Ying Ruo was shocked. He knew the guy was rich, but he didn’t expect him to be the embodiment of evil capitalism.
Duan Zhuyan led him into the room. The doctor inside was from China, named Li Yunqi. He had graduated from Oxford Medical School and currently worked at Clealand Hospital.
Seeing Duan Zhuyan and the small boy behind him, Li Yunqi asked, “What happened?”
“He is injured,” Duan Zhuyan said.
Duan Zhuyan spent his days in the lab and rarely came to the hospital, let alone personally bringing someone for treatment in the middle of the night. Li Yunqi assumed the boy must have sustained a serious injury and asked hurriedly, “Where is the injury? Let me see.”
Duan Zhuyan lifted Ying Ruo’s pant leg to show the doctor. “Here.”
Li Yunqi looked at it and fell silent for a moment.
“Are you talking about this wound that is almost healed?” Li Yunqi asked.
Duan Zhuyan frowned and let out a displeased click of his tongue. “That is a surface wound. What about the inside?”
“Check if he injured the bone, if he sprained his ankle, or if there is bruising that hasn’t shown up yet. Check if it will leave a scar. Check everything thoroughly.”
Although Duan Zhuyan looked impatient, his concern was written all over his face. He didn’t forget to add, “And check his stomach, and his brain. See if his nerves are displaced, otherwise, why does he keep talking nonsense?”
Li Yunqi: “…”
It is clear this young master is truly in love.
Ying Ruo sat there, not daring to make a sound. When the nurse told him to go for an X-ray, he followed obediently.
Once the pretty boy left, Li Yunqi couldn’t help but gossip. “Ooh, your boyfriend?”
Duan Zhuyan said nothing and did not deny it. He uploaded a set of brain scans to the electronic screen in the room.
“Scans from Nuffield Hospital,” Li Yunqi said, looking at the images. “Whose are these? Your boyfriend’s?”
Duan Zhuyan nodded. After a silent moment, he said, “He has amnesia.”
“Amnesia?” Li Yunqi repeated.
Duan Zhuyan magnified the image and watched it quietly. His voice was steady and flat. “The scans show no serious structural damage. It is likely a neurological functional disorder caused by mild traumatic brain injury.”
“The ‘hardware’ forming the memory network is intact,” Duan Zhuyan pointed out to Li Yunqi. “Diffuse axonal injury only manifests at the microscopic level; you can’t see it on a regular MRI.”
“I see,” Li Yunqi said, rubbing his chin. “Actually, it is fine. However, amnesia of this type generally cannot be helped by treatment or medication. We can only wait for the person to recover on their own.”
Duan Zhuyan folded his arms and stared at the scans solemnly.
Thinking he was worried, Li Yunqi comforted him. “It is fine. You study the brain yourself, so you know there is no damage. All functions are normal; he just lost some memories and forgot some people and things. It is not that big of a deal.”
Duan Zhuyan remained silent.
“Besides, with this type of amnesia, procedural and semantic memory are usually preserved. Most of the things forgotten are unimportant,” Li Yunqi added. “If he forgot unimportant people and things, then so be it. Be happy about it.”
Duan Zhuyan: “…”
For some reason, the air suddenly grew cold. Duan Zhuyan’s face became darker and colder, and the hostility around him was becoming hard to suppress.
After a long silence, Li Yunqi asked: “…He didn’t forget you, did he?”
Duan Zhuyan: “…”
Duan Zhuyan: “…”
🙂
What do you think?
