Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 36.1
Early the next morning, Bai Shuixi and Xia You had breakfast together before heading downstairs to go to work at Tianyin.
The driver was already waiting downstairs. Without delay, Bai Shuixi and Xia You prepared to get into the car one after the other.
Bai Shuixi glanced at the report from He Jiu on her phone and casually handed her briefcase to the driver. Just as she was about to open the car door, her gaze inadvertently swept over the rearview mirror, and she suddenly pressed her hand against the door.
Xia You had just placed her hand on the handle when she felt Bai Shuixi’s restraint. She looked at her in surprise, puzzled.
Bai Shuixi didn’t say anything, only smiling faintly as she stepped closer to Xia You.
The distance between them narrowed to something almost intimate.
A light, cool fragrance mixed with the crisp morning air enveloped them. Xia You instinctively glanced at the driver. “W-what are you doing?”
“Bai Ye is over there in the garden,” Bai Shuixi murmured, her hand still on the car door as she subtly blocked Bai Ye’s line of sight, looking down at Xia You.
“Really?” Xia You blinked, instinctively trying to locate Bai Ye. “Where is she?”
“Don’t look,” Bai Shuixi gently stopped her movement. “Do you want her to realize we’re putting on a show for her?”
Xia You looked up at Bai Shuixi and fell silent.
Seeing Xia You still a little slow to react, Bai Shuixi chuckled softly. “Sister, don’t you think we should take this chance to do something that’ll convince Bai Ye we’re really together? Otherwise, we’ll just have to waste more time proving it to her later. Wouldn’t that be a hassle?”
Xia You hesitated, conflicted as she met Bai Shuixi’s gaze.
Behind them, the driver was already looking over in confusion, wondering why the two were lingering.
Feeling his gaze, Xia You grew even more flustered. Nervously, she asked, “What should we do?”
“I don’t know,” Bai Shuixi tilted her head slightly, indulgent as she smiled at Xia You. “How far are you willing to go, sister?”
Xia You swallowed lightly but didn’t respond.
When Xia You still didn’t react, Bai Shuixi wasn’t in a hurry. She glanced toward Bai Ye’s direction from the corner of her eye. “Ah, she seems to be leaving. What a shame, but it’s fine. Maybe we should just—”
Before she could finish saying they should forget it, Xia You suddenly wrapped her arms around Bai Shuixi’s neck, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed her.
Bai Shuixi staggered slightly, bracing one hand against the car as she instinctively steadied Xia You by the waist.
The kiss was brief just a light press of lips since they still had work to get to.
When they pulled apart, their lipstick had smudged onto each other, staining their freshly applied makeup in a way that looked undeniably intimate.
Bai Shuixi was caught off guard by Xia You’s sudden move. Leaning against the car, she stared at Xia You in surprise, momentarily stunned. The driver behind them was even more flustered, his expression shocked and unsure where to look.
It took Xia You a second to realize how impulsive her action had been. Flustered and embarrassed, she glanced at Bai Shuixi before quickly escaping into the car.
Bai Shuixi didn’t stop her. She simply stood by the car, watching Xia You flee inside, then lifted a hand to touch her lips, now tinted with the other’s lipstick.
Glancing at the color on her fingertips, Bai Shuixi couldn’t help but smile faintly.
She’s quite perceptive, isn’t she this female lead of hers.
Glancing toward the garden again, the young female alpha who had been secretly watching was indeed no longer there.
Bai Shuixi indifferently withdrew her fingers. This was just as well her objective had already been achieved.
“Did she see?” Xia You asked with feigned composure from inside the car.
Bai Shuixi bent down to enter the vehicle, placing her phone aside as she lowered her gaze. “She probably did. When I looked back, she was already gone.”
“Mmm.” Xia You responded stiffly, her face tense.
The driver closed the car door for Bai Shuixi with a dull thud. Bai Shuixi’s gaze lingered on Xia You as she leaned in with an amused smile. “You were quite impressive just now, sister.”
Xia You’s face flushed instantly, the light layer of foundation barely concealing the redness. “I only did that because—”
“I know,” Bai Shuixi nodded. “Just acting, but it was rather thrilling. How about we try it again tonight? Would you like that?”
“I…” Xia You faltered, her face burning crimson.
Bai Shuixi’s expression was frank, devoid of any suggestive undertones, as if the invitation were perfectly ordinary between them. While Xia You’s thoughts stumbled, she recalled that she had indeed agreed to ‘occasionally indulge’ with Bai Shuixi.
“No.”
The refusal slipped out almost immediately at the thought.
She was afraid Bai Shuixi would start seeing her as a lover.
If Bai Shuixi grew accustomed to that kind of relationship, there would likely be no turning back. Perhaps Bai Shuixi would treat a lover well gentle and attentive, unlike other spoiled heirs who discarded playthings after use but Xia You still didn’t want it.
Lover relationships always ended someday, and she didn’t want to be the one forgotten again.
Bai Shuixi watched Xia You silently, not pressing further, though she couldn’t help feeling the female lead was being rather cold toward the villain.
Even if she had only been joking, couldn’t they at least honor their agreement to ‘occasionally indulge’?
It wouldn’t do for them to happily share a bed only when Xia You felt like it, then pretend nothing happened when she didn’t.
Even villains had their limits.
She had always harbored some goodwill toward Xia You, softening toward her easily.
But if things continued this way, Bai Shuixi wasn’t sure she might not eventually snap and keep Xia You close just to see that flustered expression again.
By the time they finished speaking, the driver had circled back to the front and returned to his seat. Neither Bai Shuixi nor Xia You had any intention of continuing the conversation in front of him, leaving the car in silence, the earlier interlude unmentioned.
The car soon arrived at the company, and Bai Shuixi and Xia You stepped out one after the other.
Since Xia You had been Bai Shuixi’s personal assistant from the start, no one thought to question their closeness. Bai Shuixi walked into Tianyin Tower alongside Xia You under the eyes of half the company, exchanging greetings with employees before entering their respective offices.
Watching as Xia You obediently disappeared into the secretary’s office, Bai Shuixi paused briefly at her own office door before stepping inside.
On the desk lay documents He Jiu had delivered ahead of them. Bai Shuixi leisurely removed her coat and hung it on the rack, her eyes darkening slightly as she mulled over Xia You’s earlier reaction.
She wasn’t sure what exactly was bothering her, but she just couldn’t shake the feeling that Xia You seemed a little too happy. In contrast, she was the one weighed down by concerns at every turn.
Bai Shuixi walked into her office and sat down, opening a file and skimming through it before suddenly feeling an inexplicable irritation. How could it be that only she was affected by what happened between the two of them?
After a brief moment of thought, Bai Shuixi abruptly decided to send Xia You a bouquet of flowers the most extravagant kind. Ninety-nine red roses, delivered in the most ostentatious way possible, right in front of everyone in the company.
She refused to believe Xia You could stay this cheerful after that.
Just as she picked up her phone to place the order, there was a knock on the office door. Xu Chuan walked in, dressed in a sharp, professional-looking pantsuit.
“What is it?” Bai Shuixi glanced up at her before setting her phone aside.
Xu Chuan had come prepared to discuss work, but the moment she saw Bai Shuixi ’s appearance, she froze.
She had always known Bai Shuixi was beautiful, but lately… she seemed even more captivating. Despite appearing even more indifferent to Tianyin Entertainment’s affairs, the subtle aura of control she exuded now was even more mesmerizing to Xu Chuan.
It was as if… someone she had only ever admired from afar had suddenly noticed her.
Now, she could stand on equal footing with Bai Shuixi and compete with her.
Looking at Bai Shuixi ’s aloof expression, Xu Chuan unconsciously softened her tone. “It’s about the investment for Retrospect. There’s a meeting with the Song Group this afternoon, and I wanted to confirm their stance.”
At the weekend banquet, Bai Shuixi had just discussed the investment ratios with Song Zhe and the others. Now, it was just endless meetings to finalize the details before signing the contract and they couldn’t afford to drag it out too long, lest it delay the film’s production schedule.
Bai Shuixi nodded casually, barely paying attention as she answered Xu Chuan while glancing at her computer screen, which had just lit up with a notification.
“Same as before. Stick to the previously agreed profit split. Zihe Entertainment might raise some objections, but ignore them. If they really refuse, we can team up with the Song Group to take over their share.”
“Understood. Then…” Xu Chuan acknowledged, but for some reason, her voice suddenly trailed off.
“What?” Bai Shuixi looked at her, frowning when she noticed Xu Chuan’s suddenly grim expression. “If you’re feeling unwell, you can take leave. I’ll approve it.”
But Xu Chuan only parted her lips slightly, her gaze fixed on Bai Shuixi ’s neck. After a dazed moment, a flicker of anger like someone had stolen something from her flashed in her eyes.
Her expression was so strange that even Bai Shuixi , who usually couldn’t care less about Xu Chuan’s moods, couldn’t help but give her a questioning look. “What’s actually wrong with you?”
Xu Chuan was silent for a few seconds before clenching her fists quietly. “…Nothing. I… I’m fine.”
Bai Shuixi frowned again and followed Xu Chuan’s line of sight, catching sight of her own reflection in the mirrored clock on the desk. There, on her pale skin, was a faint red mark slightly broken, impossible to miss.
Ah, so that’s what this was about.
Bai Shuixi thought of Bai Ye, then glanced back at Xu Chuan’s expression before letting out a soft laugh.
So here was another one who thought the female lead had been snatched away by her.
How amusing.
“If there are no issues, then go ahead and implement it. No need to linger in my office.” Bai Shuixi showed no concern for Xu Chuan’s gaze, casually smoothing her collar as if she didn’t care whether it covered that mark or not.
Her attitude seemed less like concealment and more like flaunting.
Xu Chuan took a deep breath, glanced once more at Bai Shuixi’s neck, said nothing, and turned to leave.
Outside, Xia You happened to step out to fetch water and ran straight into Xu Chuan. She immediately noticed Xu Chuan’s unusually grim expression, what was even stranger was that Xu Chuan deliberately stopped and fixed her gaze on Xia You upon seeing her.
Xia You couldn’t help but feel surprised. “Is something wrong, Vice President Xu?”
“Nothing.” Xu Chuan’s eyes slowly swept over Xia You’s entire figure before suddenly recalling that this Omega had been present during Bai Shuixi’s online meeting with the company executives. Abruptly, she asked, “Assistant Xia, are you currently living with President Bai?”
Xia You stiffened instantly, her face involuntarily flushing. It took her a moment to realize that Xu Chuan didn’t actually know the nature of her relationship with Bai Shuixi. Regaining some composure, she softly explained, “We just live in the same neighborhood.”
“Is that so?” Xu Chuan gave Xia You a long, penetrating look, neither confirming nor denying whether she believed the answer. She only said, “Taking care of President Bai must be exhausting. Thank you for your efforts.”
With that, she walked away from the secretary’s office area, her retreating figure as decisive and commanding as ever.
Xia You stood still, blinking lightly before frowning in confusion as she watched Xu Chuan leave.
…Was it just her imagination? Why did she feel like Vice President Xu harbored some inappropriate possessiveness toward Bai Shuixi? And more importantly, should a vice president really be saying things like “Thank you for your efforts” to the CEO’s personal assistant?
Xia You nervously bit down on her knuckle.
Could Bai Shuixi and Xu Chuan have had a past? But judging from their interactions, that didn’t seem to be the case.
Back in the office, Bai Shuixi was idly picking at rose petals, completely unaware that Xia You’s thoughts had spiraled so far.
In the original story, the character “Bai Shuixi” had never won Xia You’s love from beginning to end. Bai Shuixi could reluctantly accept that as long as Xia You didn’t keep thinking about other people or things while in her bed.
But no matter what Xia You thought, the most physically and emotionally torturous plotline of the original story the film arc hadn’t even begun yet.
There were still many events to come. Whether it was visiting the film set with Xia You and kissing her right in front of Li Wei, or driving the RV to the set and pulling Xia You inside to do all sorts of things each would likely be quite stimulating for Xia You.
Though Li Wei’s presence had faded significantly and Xia You no longer trusted her as much, she was still the female lead’s childhood friend. That alone should carry some influence.
Not to mention, there was still Bai Ye watching Xia You like a hawk.
So if the goal was to make Xia You cry, there were plenty of ways to do it because there were plenty of people lining up to see her break down.
Bai Shuixi absentmindedly scrolled through her phone, considering just how much chaos would unfold if she let Bai Ye run wild.
She wasn’t opposed to making things more exciting, but Bai Ye was different from Li Wei her madness was on another level. One misstep, and Xia You could genuinely get hurt. It was probably best to eliminate Bai Ye as a threat before proceeding to torment the female lead.
Bai Shuixi had always harbored a trace of softness toward Xia You, reluctant to hurt her. But after last night. Xia You actually thought they could maintain their previous relationship? Did she think Bai Shuixi was some kind of saint?
Clenching the bracelet on her wrist, Bai Shuixi decided the most she’d do was control the situation to prevent Bai Ye and Zhou Wanwan from ganging up on Xia You.
She wouldn’t interfere with the female lead’s solo success, and the female lead probably wouldn’t mind a little ‘revenge’ born out of irritation, right?
Half an hour later, in full view of most employees on the top floor of Tianyin Tower, a deliveryman personally greenlit by the company’s CEO stepped out of the elevator holding an enormous bouquet of flowers. He Jin, looking utterly defeated, accompanied him, enduring the shocked stares of their colleagues as they carried the flowers into the secretary’s office, where an equally stunned and bewildered Xia You awaited.
Xia You stared blankly at the bouquet for a moment before turning a helpless gaze toward He Jin. “Assistant He, what… what is this?”
“I don’t know,” He Jin said with complete sincerity, feigning innocence. “I was just passing by.”
Xia You: “But this…” This was way too over the top.
Unfortunately, the deliveryman had zero social awareness. He dutifully pulled out the small card tucked into the bouquet and said earnestly, “You must be Miss Xia You?”
“Ah, yes, that’s me,” Xia You replied, eager to skip this entire ordeal. “If these flowers are for me, just leave them. ”
“Perfect! The sender specifically requested that I read this message to you loudly and with feeling,” the deliveryman declared.
Xia You: “Huh?”
“Miss Xia You, ever since I saw you on the street that day, I haven’t been able to forget you! Your eyes are like morning stars, shining in my heart, visiting my dreams every night!” the deliveryman recited from the card.
Xia You froze, her face instantly burning red. “Wait, no, hold on!”
“Today is a beautiful day!” the deliveryman continued, undeterred. “The wind is gentle, the flowers are romantic, you are special, and I adore you!”
Silence fell over the entire floor.
He Jin stood to the side, mentally curling her toes in secondhand embarrassment.
The deliveryman, completely oblivious, finished his assigned lines and marched straight toward Xia You, thrusting the bouquet forward with unwavering earnestness. “Miss Xia, your flowers.”
“…No thanks,” Xia You waved a hand, turning her face away weakly. “Today, I don’t go by ‘Xia.’”
Deliveryman: “Huh?”
“Ahem.” He Jin, ever the elite assistant, stepped in to break the awkwardness, taking the flowers and shooting the deliveryman a look to signal his exit.
“Oh, right! I did read it as requested, so I should get a good review, right?” The deliveryman, still clueless, made sure to confirm his rating before leaving.
He Jin: “…Shouldn’t be a problem.”
Satisfied, the deliveryman departed, leaving the secretary’s office in an awkward silence. Someone coughed, breaking the tension, and He Jin finally moved, placing the flowers on Xia You’s desk with a sympathetic expression. She scraped together a feeble attempt at comfort: “At least… the flowers are pretty.”
Xia You: “……”
The rest of the office: “……”
Well… that was rough. Someone give her a hug.
Bai Shuixi’s most capable secretary was the first to stand up, her expression complicated as she chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, it’s quite unconventional. Rare, really rare.”
With these two breaking the ice, the others naturally didn’t leave Xia You out in the cold either. They began teasing her half-jokingly, filling the office with laughter and comments like: ‘Assistant Xia is so pretty, no wonder she’s getting flowers,’ ‘None of us have ever been confessed to so publicly before,’ and ‘That’s one massive bouquet.’
Xia You’s face flushed repeatedly, wishing they’d just change the subject.
Before she could stop her colleagues’ banter, the door to the CEO’s office nearby suddenly opened.
Bai Shuixi appeared at the doorway now wearing gold-rimmed glasses with her shirt sleeves casually rolled up, looking both restrained and irresistibly sexy. Her gaze swept across most of the employees on the floor as she said with an amused smile:
“Someone got confessed to? No wonder it’s so lively. Why not include me in the conversation?”
The teasing immediately stopped.
