Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 29
“…Heh, that’s wonderful, of course,” Li Wei said with a smile, though her eyes darkened subtly as her gaze shifted between Xia You and Bai Shuixi. “I’m happy for both President Bai and Xia Xia.”
Bai Shuixi gave an indifferent nod, adjusting her wristwatch as she casually remarked, “How thoughtful.”
The atmosphere in the garden instantly chilled. Bai Shuixi’s dismissal was unmistakable, leaving Li Wei no choice but to take a deep breath and exit the rooftop garden though not before casting one last meaningful glance at Xia You.
Xia You noticed the look but chose to ignore it.
Back when she had feelings for Li Wei, she would have instinctively noticed every little thing about her, always ready to help. But now, the unpleasant implications in Li Wei’s words were too much to bear. She wanted nothing more to do with her.
“I was wondering why you took so long to come back.”
Xia You snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of Bai Shuixi’s voice clear, bright, and as captivating as ever, though now laced with playful teasing:
“If you were meeting some ex-girlfriend or something in a place like this, I’d be upset, you know, jie jie.”
Xia You blinked, then quickly waved her hands. “N-no, it wasn’t like that! We were never together.”
Bai Shuixi paused, surprised that this was Xia You’s first response. Her gaze flickered over Xia You’s gentle, slightly flushed face before she echoed, “Oh? So you and Li Wei never dated?”
Xia You pressed her lips together and stayed silent.
Part of her was relieved they had never actually been a couple, but another part felt embarrassed.
To have silently adored someone for so long, only to realize how unworthy they were, Saying it out loud would just make her seem foolish.
Bai Shuixi noticed Xia You’s discomfort, her eyes lingering briefly on those soft, rosy lips.
She should have been considerate and dropped the subject, but for some reason, she felt like fanning the flames instead:
“Earlier, when Li Wei tried to use me, why didn’t you agree? Wouldn’t it have been better for you if I played along and helped you two reconcile… jie jie?”
Xia You stiffened, looking up at her in shock. “What are you talking about?”
Her usually soft voice carried a note of disbelief, her expression genuinely startled.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t you want to use me too?” Bai Shuixi asked, tilting her head with a faint smile.
“Of course I didn’t!” Xia You frowned, her gentle features hardening into something stern that same “angry kitten” look Bai Shuixi found amusing. “Bai Shuixi, I really think some of your perspectives need correcting.”
Bai Shuixi blinked. “Hm?”
Xia You looked as serious as if she were addressing a patient. “How could you agree with Li Wei’s reasoning after hearing something like that? She’s the one who’s unscrupulous. Even if we don’t see eye to eye on certain things, I would never treat you that way.”
Was that all?
Bai Shuixi felt a twinge of disappointment. She had half-expected some drastic, unforeseen change in the heroine like Xia You falling for her, triggering her empathy punishment.
But it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Still, seeing Xia You so earnest made Bai Shuixi want to tease her further.
“But I think that would’ve been fine,” Bai Shuixi said, watching her closely.
“What?” Xia You frowned slightly, looking a bit confused.
Bai Shuixi curved her lips into a smile and glanced at Xia You. “If you’re going to use me, sister, you’ll have to give me something in return like a kiss, or something even deeper. How about, we try trading a kiss for a resource or something?”
Xia You froze for a moment. When she realized what Bai Shuixi was implying, her eyes widened in shock. She looked almost angry, her soft lips parting and closing as if she wanted to say something but was too flustered to speak.
Bai Shuixi suppressed a laugh, her eyes softening with an emotion she hadn’t even noticed herself. “Alright, if you’re really unwilling, then forget it.”
Xia You pressed her lips together, annoyed, and scolded Bai Shuixi, “You’re really too shameless!”
Too much!!
Bai Shuixi couldn’t hold back a laugh but quickly composed herself, offering a serious apology. “I’m sorry.”
Compared to Li Wei, Bai Shuixi’s teasing seemed far more decent. At least Bai Shuixi was just joking and wouldn’t actually do anything…
Xia You gave her an awkward glance before finally relenting and looking away, letting go of her anger.
Bai Shuixi smiled, adjusting her coat as she finally changed the subject. “Let’s go take care of some real business now. The banquet is still waiting.”
“You haven’t finished discussing that movie with your partner yet?” Xia You asked in surprise.
Bai Shuixi chuckled lightly. “I didn’t know why you hadn’t returned, so I came to check. Didn’t expect to stumble upon such an, interesting scene.”
“There’s nothing ‘interesting’ about it,” Xia You lifted the hem of her dress, following Bai Shuixi toward the end of the garden. “I just happened to run into her. Our, our relationship is complicated, but it’s definitely not what you think!”
“Is that so?” Bai Shuixi stood at the bottom of the steps, reaching out to steady Xia You as she subtly smiled. “Then why don’t you just like me instead? I’m better than Li Wei, aren’t I?”
Just as Bai Shuixi finished speaking, Xia You stepped off the last stair. Her foot slipped slightly, and her grip on Bai Shuixi’s arm tightened instinctively. Flustered, she looked up and met Bai Shuixi’s gaze.
Her expression didn’t seem particularly resistant, if anything, there was a hint of guilt and panic in her eyes.
Bai Shuixi: “…”
This reaction wasn’t what she’d expected.
Under Bai Shuixi’s slightly puzzled gaze, Xia You hastily let go of her arm, muttering, “Stop talking nonsense,” before turning and hurrying toward the banquet hall.
Bai Shuixi lagged half a step behind, about to follow, when she suddenly sucked in a sharp breath and pressed a hand to her ribs.
This time, why did it hurt even more than before? It was almost as bad as the time she’d nearly passed out from the pain.
The pain struck at random intervals, its intensity unpredictable. Bai Shuixi exhaled slowly, forcing herself to straighten up despite the agony.
The feeling of something slipping out of her control unsettled her.
One hand still pressed to her side, Bai Shuixi’s slightly blurred gaze landed on Xia You. Every time the pain flared up, Xia You was there. And Xia You’s attitude toward her didn’t seem entirely indifferent.
So where exactly had things gone wrong?
When Bai Shuixi and Xia You returned to the banquet hall, the event was still in full swing. The attending guests were enthusiastically discussing the projects being auctioned off one after another, creating a tense yet lively atmosphere.
Bai Shuixi blended into the crowd naturally, though her face remained slightly pale. Her expression was somewhat cold as she suppressed the pain, but since this had been her usual demeanor lately, no one found it suspicious.
“Ah, Director Bai finally decided to return? I thought you were going to stand us up,” Song Zhe, who had spotted Bai Shuixi first, walked over with a smile, his gaze naturally settling on Xia You.
Bai Shuixi had left in the middle of discussing collaborations, only to return with an Omega by her side. Song Zhe’s eyes unconsciously took on a meaningful glint: “And who might this be?”
“My new assistant.” Bai Shuixi frowned slightly, catching the look in Song Zhe’s eyes, and her own gaze carried a hint of warning.
An undercurrent flowed between the two alphas as their eyes locked in silent communication, exchanging unspoken messages. Xia You, however, paid no attention, her focus entirely on the seemingly innocent yet alluring Omega standing beside Song Zhe.
It might sound a bit ridiculous, but this was actually Xia You’s first face-to-face encounter with Zhou Wanwan.
She had seen her countless times in files and passed by her several times, but none of those compared to seeing her in person.
Zhou Wanwan did possess an indescribable charm, especially those beautiful eyes of hers.
Just as Xia You was thinking this, Zhou Wanwan suddenly extended her slender, pale hand toward her, her wrist so delicate it looked like it could snap with the slightest pressure:
“Hello, I’m Zhou Wanwan.”
Xia You gave Zhou Wanwan a deep look before shaking her hand: “Hello.”
The banquet hall was packed with people directors, producers, investors, and actors from various companies.
Apart from unrelated attendees, several investors who were about to discuss the “Retrospect” project with Bai Shuixi also approached upon seeing her. Xia You ultimately didn’t get a chance to say much to Zhou Wanwan beyond that brief handshake.
The man surnamed Song began conversing with Bai Shuixi, soon joined by someone referred to as ‘Mr. Zou.’
Standing to the side, Xia You didn’t understand everything but quickly picked up that Song Zhe was insisting on reserving the female lead role for Zhou Wanwan, despite the reluctance of the other investors.
Song Zhe’s attitude was so blatant that Xia You couldn’t help but notice Zhou Wanwan’s arm linked with his.
What exactly was the relationship between these two?
If Zhou Wanwan and Song Zhe were a couplethen what did that make Li Wei?
Xia You was genuinely puzzled, so much so that she didn’t even realize when Bai Shuixi finished her conversation with the group.
The executives dispersed from around Bai Shuixi, only to be replaced by others eager to establish connections with Tianyin or even the Bai family.
Though the original host’s illness often left her listless and she frequently delegated all work to Xu Chuan, her status in social circles remained unshakable.
After all, those familiar with G City’s elite knew that Tianyin was merely an insignificant branch of the Bai Group. As the sole heir to the Bai family, Bai Shuixi would eventually return to inherit the empire, at which point her worth would far exceed anything Tianyin could measure.
Dodging those who tried to approach her under the guise of toasting and small talk, Bai Shuixi finally relaxed a bit and turned to Xia You, saying, “Is there something you want to ask? You’ve been staring at me since earlier.”
“I just wanted to ask if Zhou Wanwan’s role has been finalized yet.” Xia You replied somewhat sheepishly.
“What, do you hope she doesn’t get it?” Bai Shuixi thought for a moment. “That can be arranged too. If you don’t like using kisses to gain resources, we can use kisses to make sure someone else doesn’t get them either. Shall we kiss now?”
“What are you talking about?!” Xia You’s face flushed instantly. “I was just asking! Whether she gets it or not has nothing to do with me.”
“Oh, is that so?” Bai Shuixi smiled. “Then I don’t know. Opinions are divided, and it’s still under discussion.”
Xia You glared at Bai Shuixi with no real threat, her face still red, then lifted the hem of her dress and turned to walk toward the rest area. Bai Shuixi chuckled and pulled her back.
Amidst the bustling glamour of the crowd, Xu Chuan and her assistant stood at the other end of the banquet hall, their gaze never leaving Bai Shuixi. Every interaction between Xia You and Bai Shuixi was clearly observed by Xu Chuan.
“It seems that even though President Bai rarely appears at the company, it hasn’t affected her status,” the assistant remarked softly.
“…Of course,” Xu Chuan murmured, her voice distant as she watched Bai Shuixi. “No matter what, President Bai is the heir to the group. She probably won’t continue working at Tianyin in the future.”
In Xu Chuan’s eyes, Bai Shuixi seemed somewhat distracted, standing there casually, occasionally leaning down to whisper something to the omega beside her.
The black strapless gown accentuated Bai Shuixi’s graceful figure, her jade-like back boldly on display. She held a champagne glass lazily in one hand, looking both stunning and sharp.
Xu Chuan’s gaze couldn’t help but linger with admiration.
To her, the most beautiful jewel in the world should be a woman like Bai Shuixi.
She wanted to be a collector of such treasures, but Bai Shuixi simply stood there, her starting point already far above many others, as if perched on a summit Xu Chuan could never reach.
If she wanted a peerless treasure but lacked the proper tools to obtain it, what should she do?
