Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 27
While Bai Shuixi was talking to Shen Yanxin, Xia You also got out of the car, carefully holding up the hem of her dress as she walked around from the other side.
Bai Shuixi turned and saw her, about to step forward to offer assistance when Shen Yanxin noticed Xia You too and blurted out without thinking, “Hey, isn’t that?”
Isn’t that the Omega you were planning to seduce?
Before she could finish, Bai Shuixi’s movements froze. She suddenly remembered that this woman knew Xia You.
That wouldn’t have been a problem on its own, but Shen Yanxin had even warned the original host that Xia You might be in trouble. If she accidentally let slip something about the original host’s intentions, things could get messy.
Bai Shuixi’s outstretched hand paused midair, then redirected to jab Shen Yanxin in the ribs.
Shen Yanxin, caught off guard: “Cough! oof.”
Xia You walked over to Bai Shuixi on her own, giving Shen Yanxin a puzzled look. “What are you two doing?”
“Oh, she’s a friend of mine. We were just greeting each other,” Bai Shuixi explained calmly.
“…” Shen Yanxin forced a strained smile, rubbing her sore ribs as she looked up. “…Hi.”
Xia You glanced at Shen Yanxin’s pained expression. “Uh… hello.”
This doesn’t seem like a normal greeting.
Are you sure she’s not being threatened?
Bai Shuixi shot Shen Yanxin a warning look, worried she might say something she shouldn’t, then gently guided Xia You toward the venue. “I’ll catch up with you later. Let’s head in first.”
Shen Yanxin: “Oh, sure.”
That hurt.
Bai Shuixi glanced back to make sure Shen Yanxin wasn’t following before relaxing and leading Xia You toward the hotel entrance. Lowering her voice, she explained,
“The host of tonight’s banquet is Chairman Wang from MC Capital. He started in the entertainment industry before transitioning into investments and has achieved remarkable success. He’s practically the poster child for self-made success in G City, and in terms of seniority, he’s half a generation above me. Everyone here will show him some degree of respect.”
Xia You nodded, vaguely impressed but not commenting further.
Who the host was didn’t really matter to her, she was just here as Bai Shuixi’s plus-one. If possible, she might also get a chance to see Li Wei.
Come to think of it, it had been a while since she last saw Li Wei. In the past, Xia You would have chatted with her often, but this time, she hadn’t even thought about Li Wei much.
Bai Shuixi chuckled softly, her gaze lingering on Xia You’s profile. Seeing her serious expression made Bai Shuixi want to tease her. “You might get approached by a lot of people later. How are you planning to handle it?”
“Approached by people?” Xia You blinked, surprised. “Why?”
Bai Shuixi took a step back, giving Xia You an exaggerated once-over before sighing dramatically. “Just being this pretty is enough, isn’t it? Ah, our dear Xia You could wear anything and still have alphas chasing after her. But tonight, looking this stunning? I bet you’ll have a whole new crowd of admirers by the end of the evening.”
Xia You’s cheeks warmed. Despite Bai Shuixi’s long-winded praise, the only part that really registered was ‘looking this stunning tonight.’
Embarrassed, she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Stop exaggerating. There’s no such thing.”
Bai Shuixi’s eyes curved with amusement, about to tease her further when she suddenly remembered Shen Yanxin. Her lighthearted smile stiffened slightly.
Xia You didn’t understand what was going on with Bai Shuixi and couldn’t help asking, “What’s wrong? Is there something off?”
“…Nothing,” Bai Shuixi quickly snapped out of it and smiled at Xia You, though her expression remained somewhat somber. “Later, someone might say all sorts of nonsense to you. Don’t listen to any of it. Just wait for me to explain.”
Xia You frowned slightly, giving Bai Shuixi a puzzled look.
Could there be many people at this banquet who didn’t get along with Bai Shuixi?
“Come on.” Without further explanation, Bai Shuixi led Xia You through the open doors into the banquet hall. The hall was brilliantly lit, filled with elegantly dressed guests. As soon as Xia You entered, she spotted several familiar faces.
Tianyin’s star performer, Shi Laiyin; deputy general manager Xu Chuan; a few directors who frequently appeared on talk shows; and the owner of Rixin Entertainment.
In the materials Bai Shuixi had given her, this person had appeared repeatedly.
Before Xia You could get a good look at them, a few unfamiliar people approached Bai Shuixi to greet her, blocking Xia You’s line of sight.
“Little President Bai, long time no see. Since you’re here in person today, it seems you’re determined to secure these projects,” one of them said with a smile, their words laced with probing undertones.
“Not necessarily. It depends on whether the projects catch my eye,” Bai Shuixi replied dismissively.
Her expression was indifferent, clearly not fond of such occasions.
If it were her usual approach, she would have already been lounging in a corner, waiting wearily for the event to end. But today wasn’t the time for that. If things went as expected, Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan should have arrived by now. She needed to give Xia You a chance to slip away.
In the original story, this was a heartbreaking moment.
The two female leads, separated for so long, would gaze at each other longingly through the flower arrangements, one a caged canary trapped by a twisted captor, the other a powerless childhood sweetheart. Emotions would peak in that instant, the two pouring out their sorrows to each other, tears welling up as they exchanged pitiful words before finally embracing tightly.
The outcome? The original host, watching everything from behind a second-floor window, would silently crush a wine glass in her hand before dragging Xia You back for harsh punishment.
But now…
Bai Shuixi glanced sideways at Xia You, who was frowning at the champagne in her hand, and felt only that the hypocritical and irresponsible Li Wei would grow even more distant from Xia You.
Though she had orchestrated this situation herself and it bordered on reckless, Bai Shuixi still found it deeply satisfying.
Li Wei never deserved her in the first place.
The growing distance was exactly what she deserved.
The exhausting rounds of socializing at the banquet wore on. After less than one loop around the venue, Bai Shuixi’s ears were already full of titles like “President So-and-So” and “Miss Such-and-Such,” and she couldn’t be bothered to distinguish who was who.
Spotting two more unfamiliar faces heading her way, Bai Shuixi took in Xia You’s slightly weary expression and suddenly reached out to lightly trace her palm.
Xia You froze, instinctively closing her fingers around Bai Shuixi’s hand as she looked up at her. “Hmm?”
Bai Shuixi’s body never seemed to have been truly healthy her fingertips were always slightly cool. The sensation against her palm was ticklish, and holding her hand felt undeniably intense.
Xia You suddenly remembered the last time Bai Shuixi had lightly traced her palm like this was in Bai Shuixi’s office, when she had smiled and said, ‘If you’re bored, you can go to the rooftop garden. The hotel has a great atmosphere.’
Looking at Bai Shuixi now, with that faint smile at the corners of her lips, and then at the two people approaching, Xia You caught on immediately: “Are these people I shouldn’t meet?”
“Just unnecessary,” Bai Shuixi sighed at her perceptiveness, smiling wryly. “It’s a bit boring, isn’t it? But you can stay if you’d like.”
“No,” Xia You refused quickly. She did find it rather dull. “I’ll go get some air. Where’s the garden?”
“Hmm…” Bai Shuixi searched through her host’s memories, pointing uncertainly in a direction. “Maybe over there. Don’t go too far, and come back if you run into anyone strange.”
Xia You glanced at the exit and laughed. “I can’t tell which of us is older anymore.”
“Oh?” Bai Shuixi raised an eyebrow, her gaze flickering with amusement as she leaned in slightly. “They say older people are more experienced. Why don’t you show me tonight, jiejie?”
Xia You stared at Bai Shuixi for a moment, puzzled by her meaning, trying to decipher what ‘experienced’ referred to from her calm expression.
By the time it suddenly dawned on her, the two people approaching for small talk were already close.
This was hardly the place to address the young alpha’s bold words. Xia You’s gentle face flushed slightly as she shot Bai Shuixi an exasperated look, then turned and strode toward the rooftop garden, her heels clicking sharply against the floor.
The approaching executive glanced curiously at Xia You’s retreating figure. “President Bai, who was that?”
Bai Shuixi turned back, matching the face to the memory of G City’s restaurant industry leader, and sidestepped the question with a light smile. “She’s upset.”
“Ah, I see!” The executive, drawing some odd conclusion, didn’t press further, instead giving Bai Shuixi a sympathetic look. “I understand.”
Bai Shuixi smiled as the man excused himself to seek out Shen Yanxin.
The matter of Zhou Wanwan framing Xia You had dragged on long enough. It was time for a resolution.
When Bai Shuixi found her, Shen Yanxin was flirting with an Omega in a corner of the venue, the air thick with an unmistakable tension that kept others at a distance.
Only Bai Shuixi walked over without hesitation, patting Shen Yanxin on the back. “Hey, enough playing around.”
“…” Shen Yanxin turned with gritted teeth. “What do you want?”
Bai Shuixi didn’t answer immediately, her gaze briefly skimming over the Omega likely some magazine model before dismissing her. “You’re engaged. Shouldn’t you be more discreet?”
Shen Yanxin: “…”
Clearing her throat, Shen Yanxin waved the Omega off, adopting a serious expression. “Just making conversation.”
Bai Shuixi had no interest in whatever conversation they were having. With an indifferent expression, she walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, her gaze settling on the diagonal rooftop garden:
“Why did you tell me about Xia that psychologist being set up that day?”
“…Huh?” Shen Yanxin was completely baffled.
“Don’t you like her?” The young model had slipped away, and Shen Yanxin regained her confidence. “As your good sister, I was just trying to help you out. And let’s be honest, you benefited too, didn’t you? Bringing that Omega to the banquet today, what have you two gotten together?”
Bai Shuixi ignored the ‘gotten together’ comment, giving Shen Yanxin a cold look: “That kind of information isn’t something just anyone would know.”
Shen Yanxin finally caught on: “Oh, that.”
Bai Shuixi: “Did you lend people to Zhou Wanwan?”
Shen Yanxin froze: “How did you know she was behind it?”
“Not hard to guess,” Bai Shuixi had no intention of explaining in detail. “What’s more puzzling is you since you have no interest in Xia You, why would you get involved with Zhou Wanwan?”
Shen Yanxin mulled over Bai Shuixi’s words, then waved her hands emphatically: “Hey! I wasn’t trying to steal anyone from you, okay? This was really just a coincidence!”
Bai Shuixi’s eyes remained fixed on the rooftop garden. Only then did she spare Shen Yanxin a glance, pulling out her phone from her handbag and showing her a screenshot: “Do you know this person?”
The image clearly showed the blond-haired man.
Shen Yanxin glanced at it and said matter-of-factly: “Yeah, I know him. Zhou Wanwan found out about him through me.”
Bai Shuixi’s brow twitched: “What’s the story?”
Shen Yanxin looked bewildered: “That guy’s a drifter. He started as a private investigator, but he wasn’t very good at it. When I first met him, he was so broke he couldn’t even pay his utility bills.
I thought the job sounded interesting, so I helped him out for a while. But he never stuck with anything, so I lost interest. Now he’s probably switched to being a paparazzi, he even runs a paparazzi company. Well, Zhou Wanwan is his backer.”
So that’s how it was, Bai Shuixi recalled the time she’d seen the blond-haired man in the mall.
Something had felt off back then. If Zhou Wanwan was the one pulling the strings, why would she go out of her way to have him harass Xia You, needlessly increasing the risk of exposure?
After all, Xia You was already under her thumb, wasn’t she?
If Bai Shuixi hadn’t intervened that day, she might never have noticed the underlying issue.
Now it seemed the subsequent harassment was likely the blond-haired man’s own impulsive idea.
This guy had big ambitions when he had nothing, he managed to latch onto Shen Yanxin. Once he realized she was losing patience, he switched to Zhou Wanwan.
Who knew who else he might attach himself to in the future?
He was an uncontrollable variable in this story, potentially more dangerous than Bai Shuixi had initially thought.
The last person who had given Bai Shuixi this much trouble was Bai Ye.
Since they were destined to be cannon fodder, destined never to get what they wanted, and their behavior was erratic and extreme, Bai Shuixi couldn’t predict what kind of butterfly effect such a person might cause before their destruction.
“You still have his contact info, right?” Bai Shuixi suddenly turned to Shen Yanxin.
“Yeah,” Shen Yanxin had no idea what Bai Shuixi was thinking, “He occasionally shares some gossip with me. Otherwise, how would I know about your therapist?”
Hmph. Bai Shuixi sneered inwardly. As expected this person was unreliable, half-hearted when working for others.
“Send me his contact. I have some trivial matters that need someone like him,” Bai Shuixi said indifferently.
“Oh, sure. You could’ve just said so earlier,” Shen Yanxin half-complained, “You scared me with how serious you were.”
Bai Shuixi didn’t respond. Within seconds, a contact recommendation popped up on WeChat, the profile picture was a meticulously edited photo of that blond guy.
Bai Shuixi glanced at the pretentiously artsy male portrait and scoffed.
Shen Yanxin shrugged, clearly unfazed by Bai Shuixi’s attitude.
Instead, she was more curious about something else.
“You’ve been glancing out the window since earlier. What’s so interesting over there?” Shen Yanxin tiptoed, tilting her head to look.
Bai Shuixi immediately raised her hand and pulled the red velvet decorative curtain shut with a swish, blocking Shen Yanxin’s view. “None of your business.”
“…” Shen Yanxin studied Bai Shuixi’s serious expression, clicked her tongue, and walked away. “Fine, fine. You always have so many secrets.”
Bai Shuixi watched her leave and exhaled slightly, releasing her grip.
The deep red curtains fell back, revealing the scene she had been staring at once more.
An Omega dressed in a white gown and matching fur, gentle as a handful of snow fallen to earth, stood in the hotel’s sky garden. Across from her was a tall, imposing Alpha with an overwhelming presence.
It was Xia You and Li Wei.
