- Chapter 49.1 - The Price of Fandom
“Come to my office during the fourth period,” Jian Chun said, casting a sharp glance at Jin Ziye.
Jin Ziye instantly wilted. Could she not take a joke? He had absolutely no desire for a private tutoring session.
After issuing her warning to Jin Ziye, Jian Chun tapped on the blackboard. It was hollow, so the sound echoed clearly without hurting her hand. Her voice was pleasant—never too shrill—and she kept her volume at the perfect level to command attention.
“You all know that Yu Siyi graduated from Hanhai High School,” she began. “Back then, she was the top-scoring student in the entire province.”
As soon as she mentioned this, the fans in the room nodded eagerly; they knew her biography by heart. It was precisely because Yu Siyi was so brilliant—and their own senior alumna—that they adored her so much. Even the students who hadn’t joined the “fandom” yet held a natural respect for her.
Seeing the sea of nodding heads, Jian Chun continued, “I’m not trying to discourage you, but she is exceptional, while your grades are… well, they leave much to be desired. If I were the head of her fan club, I wouldn’t even grant you ‘fan status,’ let alone let you say you like her.”
The students were stunned. Wait… she actually has a point!
They were also more convinced than ever that Teacher Jian was a hardcore fan. Only a “die-hard” would defend their idol’s honor so fiercely that they’d ban “underachievers” from the fandom.
The realization stung. The idea that if they didn’t study hard, they wouldn’t even be qualified to like someone was a heavy blow to their hearts!
As for Jin Ziye, he wasn’t actually that obsessed with Yu Siyi. Since he was now someone who could actually speak to her in person, his feelings were more akin to admiration than typical celebrity worship. Regardless, he knew there was no escape; he still had to report to the office as ordered.
