Five Years of Studying Medicine, Three Years of Flirting With Guys - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
When Chen Tianyu arrived at Cardiology Ward 8 (Bashi), Tang Linsheng (the Professor) was already in the ward checking on the patient. He greeted the nurse’s station and then trotted happily toward the ward.
“Isn’t that Dr. Chen?” Tang Linsheng (the nurse) was typing the new patient’s admission notes on the computer. Catching a glimpse of him out of the corner of his eye, he said: “Is he really this happy to be doing a consultation in the middle of the night?”
Nurse Fang, who was sitting nearby playing on her phone, replied: “Probably won a game today.”
Tang Linsheng: “…A game?”
Nurse Fang said: “The whole hospital knows. Haven’t you heard of him before? Dr. Chen Tianyu from Neurosurgery in Ward 6 East, a severe game addict.”
“Is he okay acting like that?” Liu Junxian chimed in from the side.
“He’s the Director’s son, what do you think?”
Tang Linsheng: “…” A big shot, better not provoke him.
Liu Junxian: “…” She had underestimated him.
…
Since there were junior doctors present during the patient examination, Chen Tianyu behaved himself properly, adopting the attitude of an experienced doctor for the consultation. As soon as the consultation finally ended, he hurriedly followed Tang Linsheng back to the Director’s office. He plopped down into Director Wei’s chair, crossed his legs on the desk, and said: “Where’s the food? Where’s the food!”
Tang Linsheng glanced at the legs on his desk. Chen Tianyu immediately put them down and sat up straight: “This one doesn’t count, though. I want a real feast later.”
Tang Linsheng took the white patterned lunch box out of his desk drawer and handed it to him.
“Oh, how ‘fresh and elegant’!” Chen Tianyu took the box and went to heat it up in the microwave himself.
When the timer went off, he took the lunch box out and started eating impatiently. He quickly shoveled down all the food and said: “Refreshing! Now that I’m full, I feel human again.”
Tang Linsheng looked at the empty lunch box, the corners of his mouth curling up: “Wash it later and help me put it back in the pantry.”
“You got it!” Chen Tianyu agreed readily, then smacked his lips twice and said: “Why do I feel like this taste is a bit familiar?”
“You’ve had it before?” Tang Linsheng became interested. Perhaps Chen Tianyu would know who sent it?
“Maybe… not?” Chen Tianyu was unsure. “I can’t remember, hahaha. Let’s not talk about that. Why did you want to come back? The salary in the US is so good, and there aren’t many patients.”
Tang Linsheng said with a smile: “To serve the motherland and build a more beautiful socialist society.”
“…” Chen Tianyu rubbed his arms in disgust and said: “Brother Sheng, I didn’t expect that after being ‘corrupted’ by the Americans for so many years, you’d become even more ‘red and expert’? Believe it or not, besides you, I heard someone else say that kind of thing today.”
“Who?”
Chen Tianyu pointed toward the nurse’s station: “A male nurse in your department. I ran into him at the elevator; listening to him made me freeze to death (it was a ‘cold’ joke).”
Tang Linsheng couldn’t help but laugh. It seemed he truly did have some fate with this kid who shared his name.
…
Chen Tianyu found the dish soap left by the cleaning lady and washed the lunch box in the pantry. Just as he was about to put it away, he ran into a problem: where does this box go?
Fortunately, someone happened to enter the pantry. He quickly asked: “Where does Tang Linsheng’s lunch box go?”
The person took one look at the box in his hand, and their eyes lit up: “Senior—Professor Tang’s?”
“Yes.”
“In here!” The person smiled happily, opened the food cabinet for him, and pointed to the spot, asking: “He finished it all?”
Chen Tianyu nodded: “Finished it all. It was delicious!”
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw the person look even happier. The large eyes visible above the mask were sparkling, overflowing with joy.
Chen Tianyu found it strange. Why was this youngster so happy just because he ate a meal?
The normally fearless Chen Tianyu actually felt a sudden urge to retreat under the other’s direct, joyful gaze. He gave a few awkward laughs, said he was leaving, and ran off. One could almost see a hint of a panicked escape in his departing figure.
Only one person remained in the pantry. He took off his mask, pursed his lips, and puffed out his cheeks, but he still couldn’t hide the smile on his face. He pumped both fists, let out a “yeah!”, and spun around in a happy jump. The senior ate his bento! Step one was a victory!
Tang Linsheng’s original intention in coming to the pantry was to see what was taking Chen Tianyu so long just to wash a bowl. The patient admitted from the ER today not only had old anterior wall myocardial infarction and heart failure but also a partial cerebral hemorrhage. Chen Tianyu had run off without finalizing the treatment plan with him.
To his surprise, he didn’t see Chen Tianyu in the pantry, but instead saw a kid over there pursing his lips to act serious, then puffing his cheeks like a hamster, and finally spinning around in a jump like a kangaroo?! He found the kid both cute and hilarious, but his usual poise told him that laughing out loud might discourage the other person. He had to suppress his laughter with all his might, which was quite painful.
“Ahem.” Seeing that the kid still hadn’t noticed him and was just smiling foolishly, Tang Linsheng couldn’t help but let out a light cough to remind him.
Tang Linsheng (the nurse) was just about to take a leap when he heard the cough. Hearing that sound, he was so startled he lost his footing. When he looked closer and saw who it was, he lost his balance entirely and fell forward.
Tang Linsheng (the Professor) hadn’t expected his simple reminder to scare the kid into falling. He stepped forward quickly, catching the other with one arm around him while his other hand lightly patted the other’s back to comfort him. “Are you okay?”
Se—Senior’s gentle, magnetic voice rang in his ear. He was hanging onto Senior’s arm, and he could clearly feel the strong, powerful arm hidden beneath the white coat. Finally! Finally, he had physical contact with a senior…
Wait, now is not the time for that! Tang Linsheng closed his eyes, his heart turning to ash as he continued to hang from Tang Linsheng’s arm, head dangling downward.
Why do I have to be this embarrassed?!!
Why did I have to “spin and jump with my eyes closed” in front of Senior?!!
How the f** Is he supposed to pursue him now?!!*
Doesn’t he want to save face?!!
