- Chapter 11 - You Two Are Nearly Hugging
Shen He paused, then immediately moved back.
Chen Qingtang hooked a faint, almost invisible smile. He moves back the moment I tell him to get closer? I wonder if he will be just as obedient when I tell him to stop later.
With a ding, the elevator arrived. After they left the restaurant, Shen He followed closely by Chen Qingtang’s side the entire way. When navigating through crowds, Shen He would carefully shield Chen Qingtang, trying his best to separate him from the press of people. Once they entered the school grounds and reached the classroom building, the two groups parted ways, mainly because their afternoon classes were in different locations. Chu Xi had no classes, but since he was idle anyway, he followed Chen Qingtang to sit in on a lecture.
As they sat down in the classroom, Chu Xi played games for most of the period. Eventually, finding it boring, he struck up a conversation with Chen Qingtang. “You are truly impressive. I saw it earlier; you two were nearly hugging in the elevator. What is going on? Have you got him yet?”
Chen Qingtang rested his head on one hand, holding a pencil in the other, doodling aimlessly on his paper. “It is still too early.”
Chu Xi pouted. “Ah, but you two were so ambiguous!”
Chen Qingtang was drowsy after eating and felt lazy. “What do you think constitutes ambiguity?”
Chu Xi used his limited intellect to ponder for a moment. “Just looking very intimate, more intimate than with anyone else.”
Chen Qingtang replied, “Friends can also be very intimate.”
Chu Xi said, “Hmm, that makes sense. But ambiguous intimacy and friendship intimacy are different, right? Ambiguity creates a magnetic field. People watching them feel like there are pink bubbles around them.”
Chen Qingtang retorted sharply, “And how are this magnetic field or those pink bubbles created? Why do they appear?”
Chu Xi clicked his tongue. “Who knows?”
Chen Qingtang smiled. “This magnetic field exists because both parties unintentionally convey information: we might like each other, or we might be interested in each other. The essence of ambiguity is: I might like you, and you might like me, so we tacitly get closer to each other, enjoying the feeling of being attracted, accompanied by mutual testing.”
Ambiguity is a two-way street. If even one side does not have those intentions, the other side is just experiencing unrequited love, not ambiguity.
Chen Qingtang continued, “Ambiguous intimacy stems from ‘I instinctively want to be close to him’ or ‘I cannot stop myself from getting closer to him,’ similar to sexual impulse.” It is not born out of care. Shen He’s current intimacy toward him was merely out of care, not driven by emotional or sentimental impulses. But sooner or later, Chen Qingtang would make this care spoil. Thinking of such a pure and rigid man uncontrollably reaching out to him, longing for him, wanting to explore him without self-control, wavering between desire and principles, and struggling between restraint and instinct, Chen Qingtang began to feel excited; it was incredibly interesting.
Chu Xi slapped his forehead. “Master! I understand now!”
“Mhm,” Chen Qingtang replied.
Chu Xi thought for a moment. “Then what was the meaning of those things you said to Shen He in the restroom today?”
Chen Qingtang lay on the desk, his head turned to the side. “Of course, it was to lay a foundation for entering the ambiguous stage.”
He had planted a seed in Shen He’s heart. What he needed to do next was to water that seed, letting it sprout and take root. Chu Xi felt confused, lost in a fog. Just then, the bell rang. Chen Qingtang picked up his bag. “I will tell you slowly later.”
Chu Xi asked, “Where are you going? Are you going to the internet cafe?”
Chen Qingtang left him with a cool silhouette, waving his hand. “Going back to the dorm. Rewarding myself.”
Shen He and his roommates only had one class that afternoon as well. Chen Qingtang unlocked the door, drew the bed curtains, and before rewarding himself, he glanced at the dorm group chat. Wei Yan and Luo Xin had club activities and would not be returning. As for Shen He, since his roommates were out, he probably would not return suddenly either.
Only then did Chen Qingtang feel at ease pulling out his little toy, skillfully getting to work. Since moving into the dorm, he had been abstinent for a long time. Chen Qingtang had a rather high sex drive; he could have endured a bit longer, but today, after such close contact with Shen He in the elevator, all his suppressed desire had been ignited like oil on a flame, burning him painfully. He had accidentally fallen into a sweet dream, greedily touching in his reality what he had dreamt of earlier.
In the empty dorm, the boy’s breathing grew rapid, chaotic, and increasingly heavy. Finally, the bed shook violently, and all sound ceased. Chen Qingtang lay there with his eyes wide open, head tilted back, still spasming slightly.
At that moment, his phone buzzed. Chen Qingtang let out a long breath, his vision gradually sharpening. He wiped up with a tissue before reaching for the phone.
Chu Xi sent: “Showing you something good.”
Chu Xi sent: “[The Days and Nights of the Cold, Flirtatious Dom and the Kong Snake.txt]”
Chu Xi sent: “This dominant male character is exactly like Shen He. It smells so good.”
Chen Qingtang glanced at it. Seeing the word “snake,” he was not interested, but after reading the second part of Chu Xi’s comment, he decided to open the document to take a look.
Two minutes later, the smile in Chen Qingtang’s eyes grew wider. He saved the file. So that is what it meant. It smelled amazing. He wanted to play like this with Shen He, too.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Chen Qingtang froze and listened. If it was not one of his roommates, he would pretend he was not there. After all, having just rewarded himself, he felt soft and weak and did not want to move. There was still a scent on him, quite distinct; any man would know exactly what he had just done.
After a few thumps, the sound stopped. Just as Chen Qingtang thought the person had left and was about to lie back down, a low, pleasant voice spoke from behind the door.
Shen He: “Chen Qingtang, are you there? I forgot my key.”
Chen Qingtang remained silent for a few seconds before getting out of bed. After he opened the door, Shen He saw Chen Qingtang standing before him in a thin gray T-shirt. His fair cheeks were slightly flushed, and his usually smooth hair was playfully standing on end. He must have just been sleeping.
Shen He: “Did I wake you? I am sorry.”
Chen Qingtang closed the door. “No, I was not asleep. Did you come back for something?”
Shen He placed his computer bag on his desk: “I have to do some work for a teacher, and the library is undergoing maintenance today. It is quieter in the dorm.”
Suddenly, he smelled a scent. As a man, he knew all too well what it was. However, Shen He did not suspect Chen Qingtang, assuming it was Wei Yan. That kid had the highest sex drive; he would make the whole dorm smell like it. He would have to have a word with Wei Yan later.
Shen He opened his computer to work, while Chen Qingtang climbed back onto his bed, gathering his recently changed underwear to wash them.
Shen He: “Chen Qingtang, do you have a WPS Office subscription?” He needed to use it, but since he did not use the software often, there was no need to pay for a subscription.
Chen Qingtang: “Yes, the account is my phone number, and the password is…”
Shen He said, “Mhm.”
Shen He: “I need to borrow it for a few days, is that convenient?”
Chen Qingtang: “Convenient, feel free.” The software could be logged in on multiple devices anyway, so it would not affect him.
Two minutes later, Chen Qingtang remembered something, and his hand stopped mid-wash. At that moment, Shen He logged into his account, and the first thing he saw was the recent history of the file shared by Chu Xi. The title—The Days and Nights of the Cold, Flirtatious Dom and the Kong Snake—hung there, glaringly and embarrassingly obvious.
