Fighting For My Wife With Myself After Being Reborn - Chapter 7
Shen Huaixu had acquired a little tail.
Ever since Shen Huaixu skipped out on the class meeting to return to the company, Xu Le had practically hung herself from Shen Huaixu’s belt, following her every step of the way. Her eyes were wide and round, acting like a 360-degree all-automatic surveillance monitor tracking Shen Huaixu’s every move.
Honestly, was such exaggeration necessary? She had only skipped an insignificant interview, not committed some heinous crime. Why was she being treated like a convict?
“So, I’m a criminal now?” Shen Huaixu pointed at Xu Le, who was standing nearby, watching her with wide eyes.
Xu Le’s cheeks flushed. She knew her behavior was a bit over the line, but to prevent Shen Huaixu from escaping under her nose, she persisted, refusing to avert her gaze. She would keep staring at Shen Huaixu… forever… and ever…
Shen Huaixu felt helpless against the girl’s blunt honesty. Sighing, she turned to Jiang Rui for help.
“You reaped what you sowed; deal with it yourself.” Jiang Rui ignored her pleading look, sipping freshly brewed coffee while enjoying the view outside the window.
Ha, the wicked are best worn down by the foolish. With Xu Le around, she was happy to relax.
“Oh, also, you two probably need to hurry out. This afternoon’s schedule is the autumn fashion promotional shoot for Brand K. You have less than an hour to prepare,” Jiang Rui kindly reminded the two, who were currently playing a game of “Red Light, Green Light.”
Xu Le looked down at her watch and immediately stood up to urge Shen Huaixu. “Ah, she’s right! Sister Huaixu, we have to go!”
“…Understood, understood.” Shen Huaixu stood up slowly. Before leaving the office, she shot a glare at Jiang Rui.
Jiang Rui knew perfectly well that she had no defense against these hot-blooded young idiots, yet she still arranged for Xu Le to follow her.
Shen Huaixu cursed inwardly: That bastard definitely did this on purpose.
Jiang Rui smiled. “Safe travels.”
Xu Le replied with a high-spirited “Okay! Sister Jiang, we’re leaving!”
Shen Huaixu sighed as she followed the assistant who seemed to be burning with inexplicable passion. Every so often, she met the girl’s frequent surveillance glares. Shen Huaixu had no doubt that if she showed the slightest hint of anything unusual, Xu Le would immediately rush over to restrain her.
It was annoying as hell. Shen Huaixu simply pulled her hat lower to block Xu Le’s line of sight.
Today’s driver was still Xiao Lin. Shen Huaixu took her usual spot in the back row of the van. She was just about to lean back and doze off when Xu Le, who was supposed to be in the passenger seat, plopped down in the seat in front of her. She pulled a mirror out of her bag and aimed it backward to secretly monitor her.
“…” Shen Huaixu was truly defeated.
She was genuinely curious where Jiang Rui had recruited this “god” among humans; her brain circuitry was incredibly bizarre.
“Put it away. Don’t let me see that mirror again,” she threatened.
Through the mirror, Xu Le saw Shen Huaixu’s sour expression. She immediately tucked the mirror away and performed a literal sliding-kneel apology. “I’m sorry! I was wrong!”
What exactly is she so fired up about…
An ordinary apology was delivered with such boiling passion that Shen Huaixu wondered if she had spent too long away from the trends of the younger generation. Was she so out of touch with the times? How else could she explain the gap between her and Xu Le, which felt wider than the Strait of Malacca?
Forget it. Shen Huaixu pulled down her cap to nap. She decided it was better not to understand; she felt that knowing too much would lead her into a very strange new world.
Shen Huaixu arrived at the Brand K studio twenty minutes early.
Brand K’s clothing focused on a minimalist fashion style—clean, sharp lines paired with bright, light colors, perfect for today’s youth.
Shen Huaixu was tall and lean, her physical attributes practically flawless. Whether it was Brand K’s casual trousers or slim-fit long dresses, they all perfectly showcased her superior figure.
The manager stood behind the photographer. Under the spotlights, Shen Huaixu was dressed in workwear. Her indifferent silver-grey eyes looked mockingly at the camera, her pale lips lightly pressed together. She looked exceptionally handsome and striking.
The manager had a premonition that sales for this season might reach an unprecedented height.
After finishing all the solo shots, it was time for the duo promotional photos. Since Shen Huaixu was nearly 1.8 meters tall, Brand K had to find several 1.9-meter-tall models to match her height.
“Wrap it up, wrap it up! Good work, everyone.” When the manager clapped to signify the end of the day’s work, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
They had spent half the day shooting. By the time they finished, it was already night. Shen Huaixu didn’t have time to eat. After exchanging a few hurried pleasantries with the Brand K manager, she took Xu Le back to the van to rush to the next work location.
Shen Huaixu seriously suspected Jiang Rui was settling a personal vendetta. How else could she explain a schedule so packed that there wasn’t even time for dinner? She could only gnaw on an energy bar in the car before starting her next task.
…
It was past midnight when Shen Huaixu finally finished her day and returned home.
She dragged her exhausted body through the door. Gu Yinghuai had left a warm light on in the living room. Using that glow, Shen Huaixu kicked off the shoes she’d worn all day and walked into the living room.
On the dining table to her left, she saw a glass of sobering tea with a cute sticky note pressed underneath.
[Drink this before going to sleep. By: Your loving Huai]
Shen Huaixu caught the scent of alcohol on herself—maybe champagne, maybe red wine—and downed the cold tea in one go.
She rinsed the glass, placed it upside down on the rack by the sink, and tiptoed into the bedroom toward the bed.
Gu Yinghuai was already asleep.
The air conditioning was blasting. The cold-sensitive woman was curled deep under the blankets, leaving only the back of her rounded head visible. However, her fair feet were exposed, her delicate, small toes tinged with a faint pink.
Shen Huaixu leaned down to kiss the top of Gu Yinghuai’s head before heading to the bathroom to shower.
The warm water washed away the fatigue of work. Shen Huaixu wiped herself dry, changed into pajamas, and stepped out. The bedroom’s nightlight emitted a faint glow. She carefully avoided the beanbag chair on the floor, lifted the covers, and lay down, reaching out to pull the sleeping Gu Yinghuai into her arms.
Sensing the familiar aura, Gu Yinghuai’s body instinctively adjusted into a comfortable position, nestling into Shen Huaixu’s embrace to continue sleeping.
Shen Huaixu chuckled and held her tighter, leaning down to kiss Gu Yinghuai’s pink lips, chasing her sweet, fragrant tongue.
A numbing sensation spread from the tip of her tongue. In her sleep, Gu Yinghuai obediently opened her mouth, allowing her lover to deepen the kiss.
Pleased by Gu Yinghuai’s submissiveness, Shen Huaixu deepened the kiss. Their breathing became heavy, and the woman in her arms let out a soft, animal-like whimper.
Shen Huaixu didn’t want to wake her. Her Huai had been too busy lately. More than intimacy, Shen Huaixu wanted her to have a good night’s sleep.
Once the kiss ended, she sucked a bright red hickey onto Gu Yinghuai’s collarbone and fell asleep, satisfied.
Time flowed silently. Eyes that had been closed opened in the dim light.
The silver-grey eyes were filled with a frantic joy. Like a beast that had been starving for a long time, the silver-grey eyes stared intently at the mouth-watering prey in her arms. Yet, as if looking at a rare treasure, she cautiously touched the soft skin of the person in her arms to confirm her existence.
Huai. Her Huai.
Her treasure, the indispensable existence in her life.
The “Shen Huaixu” tightened her grip on Gu Yinghuai’s waist. She inhaled the fragrance of Gu Yinghuai’s hair, a manic laugh suppressed in her throat.
She had really come back. Back to before everything happened. Back to when she could still hold Gu Yinghuai.
The “Shen Huaixu” didn’t know how she had returned.
After losing Gu Yinghuai, she had lived for many years like the walking dead. She had thought about ending her life to follow her. It was responsibility that kept her alive, forcing her to find the spirit to care for both sets of parents.
But one month ago, she had suddenly appeared in this body. God knew when she saw Gu Yinghuai sleeping beside her, she almost thought she was dreaming. Only in dreams could she meet her Gu Yinghuai again.
The “Shen Huaixu” wanted to hug her, kiss her, and tell her of all the love and grievances of those years, but she was shocked to find she couldn’t control her body.
She had become a bystander.
She was forced to watch her younger self wantonly explore Gu Yinghuai’s body, watch her and Gu Yinghuai nestle on the sofa flirting, their lips and teeth entwined as they whispered words of love.
The “Shen Huaixu” was going insane with jealousy.
Gu Yinghuai was hers! She wouldn’t allow anyone—not even her past self—to take Gu Yinghuai away!
Besides, since they were both Shen Huaixu, why could the past version touch her while she couldn’t? Why could the past version be happy while she was left scarred and alone, forced to hide in the shadows of this body, voyeuristically watching a happiness that didn’t belong to her?
Why? Why?!
Like a desperate, trapped beast, the “Shen Huaixu” was imprisoned in this body day and night. Wanting to touch but unable to, watching as Gu Yinghuai was pulled into an embrace and kissed repeatedly, revealing seductive expressions that were only supposed to be seen by her.
She hated it. She hated it so much!
Like someone obsessed, the “Shen Huaixu” cupped Gu Yinghuai’s face, tracing her features, her everything.
But it didn’t matter now. The “Shen Huaixu” tasted the lips she had craved for so long. The beast in her heart was momentarily satisfied, curling up in a corner and letting out a contented purr.
She had a chance to reclaim Gu Yinghuai.
The “Shen Huaixu” pinched Gu Yinghuai’s chin. The person in her arms was forced to tilt her head back. Her fair cheeks were flushed, her thick eyelashes trembled slightly, and her thin eyelids remained tightly shut. The “Shen Huaixu” felt a bit of regret that she couldn’t see Gu Yinghuai’s misty eyes tonight.
She kissed her chin, then her neck where a small, rounded mole sat, leaving scattered, faint marks.
She relished the feeling of skin-on-skin contact with Gu Yinghuai; she almost groaned aloud. She missed this so much; she was going crazy with longing.
Unfortunately, the time she could emerge was too short. This body had been busy all day, and all that remained was exhaustion. She could only briefly seize control of the body during the short period when the “past self” fell into a deep sleep.
With a sigh of regret, the “Shen Huaixu” kissed Gu Yinghuai one last time. Before waking her, she ended the kiss. The body slipped from her control and slowly fell into a deep slumber.
The next morning, Shen Huaixu woke up yawning.
Even though she had gone to sleep before 1:00 AM, for some reason, she felt like she hadn’t slept enough. Her eyes felt particularly sore.
“Did you get back very late last night?” Gu Yinghuai set down a plate of freshly toasted bread topped with blueberries and condensed milk.
Shen Huaixu walked over in a daze and stole a kiss. “Past midnight. But I don’t know why I’m so sleepy.” As if to prove her point, she yawned again.
Gu Yinghuai teased her, “Bring out that energy you had when you were pulling all-nighters for your thesis.”
Shen Huaixu shook her head repeatedly. “I’m afraid you’d end up a young widow.”
Gu Yinghuai “pei-pei-ed” twice. “Don’t say such unlucky things first thing in the morning. Spit it out, quickly.”
“Pei, pei.” Shen Huaixu obediently complied.
“Let’s not talk about that. Come try the toast I made. I saw you were still sleeping, so I experimented. It looks pretty good.”
“Anything my Huai makes is definitely delicious.”
“Wow, is that flattery?”
“Hmm? It’s just the truth.”
Shen Huaixu took a bite of the crispy, milky toast. Under the table, she rubbed the tip of her foot against Gu Yinghuai’s calf. While chewing, she stared at Gu Yinghuai’s moist lips. “Mmm, really delicious.”
Gu Yinghuai’s cheeks burned under the bold, fiery gaze. “Focus on eating!”
Despite her words, Gu Yinghuai didn’t move her leg, letting Shen Huaixu continue to nudge her calf.
Shen Huaixu loved it when Gu Yinghuai indulged her; it gave her the feeling of being truly loved.
She tilted her head back to drink some milk. As she set the glass down, her peripheral vision caught a few faint hickeys on Gu Yinghuai’s neck.
Strange. She thought she had only left one on Huai’s collarbone last night. Shen Huaixu narrowed her eyes, repeatedly observing her neck.
“What’s wrong? Is there something on my neck?” Sensing her gaze, Gu Yinghuai reached up to touch her neck in confusion.
“No,” Shen Huaixu said. “I just regret not leaving a few more hickeys on your neck while you were sleeping last night.”
Gu Yinghuai’s cheeks, which had just cooled down, flushed a shy pink again. She gave Shen Huaixu’s shin a light kick.
