- Chapter 32.2 - Shen Huaixu Experience Card +1
“Alright, stop talking. Yinghuai, you eat first before the food gets cold.” Shen Qiu stopped Gu Yinghuai, who wanted to feed “Shen Huaixu,” and squeezed out Lin Feng, who was standing at the head of the bed, to personally feed “Shen Huaixu.”
“Open your mouth.” Shen Qiu wasn’t like Gu Yinghuai or Lin Feng; she was the person least likely to indulge “Shen Huaixu’s” nonsense. She didn’t care if “Shen Huaixu” liked it or not; she fed spoon after spoon to her mouth.
“Shen Huaixu” caught a glimpse of her mother’s half-smiling expression and miserably ate the incredibly bland food.
Gu Yinghuai and Lin Feng chuckled on the side.
“Quick, eat.” After laughing, Lin Feng urged Gu Yinghuai to start her meal.
The lunch Lin Feng prepared for Gu Yinghuai was full of color, aroma, and taste, forming a sharp contrast with “Shen Huaixu’s” tasteless patient meal.
Gu Yinghuai felt a warmth in her heart and smiled. “Okay.”
After lunch, Lin Feng took over the cleaning duties and then sensibly left the ward with the things, leaving the space for “Shen Huaixu” and the others to chat comfortably.
Gu Yinghuai sat on the right side of “Shen Huaixu” and turned on the TV, playing the TV drama Shen Qiu had recently taken a liking to.
Shen Qiu grabbed a handful of melon seeds and sat next to “Shen Huaixu” to crack them, occasionally peeling a couple for “Shen Huaixu” to satisfy her cravings when she was in a good mood.
“Mom, a few more.” “Shen Huaixu” held out her hand to Shen Qiu. Those few melon seed kernels weren’t even enough to taste before they were gone.
Shen Qiu was watching TV and couldn’t be bothered to look at her. She directly slapped away the outstretched hand and said, “A patient wanting to eat melon seeds? Go drink more hot water.”
“Shen Huaixu” said nothing and silently withdrew her hand.
She really wanted to tell Shen Qiu that since she knew she was a patient, couldn’t she be a bit gentler with her hand…
Gu Yinghuai covered her mouth and chuckled. While Shen Qiu was focused on the TV, she secretly stuffed a handful of melon seeds she had peeled into “Shen Huaixu’s” hand.
Feeling the extra contents in her palm, “Shen Huaixu” moved her fingers, gently scratching Gu Yinghuai’s palm, which earned her a blushing glare from Gu Yinghuai: Mom is right here!
“Shen Huaixu” took the glare with perfect composure and ate the little mountain of melon seed kernels in her palm bit by bit.
The kernels peeled by her Yinghuai were delicious, far better than the ones given by the stingy Ms. Shen.
Shen Qiu caught all of this from the corner of her eye and rolled her eyes where “Shen Huaixu” and Gu Yinghuai couldn’t see.
The dramas on TV weren’t even as sickeningly sweet as these two girls; it was truly hard to watch.
While the people in the drama were still pouring their hearts out to each other, Shen Qiu suddenly asked, “Have the other party’s relatives come to make a scene these past few days?”
Gu Yinghuai understood who she was talking about and shook her head. “No, Jiang Rui helped handle it. They haven’t come back these last two days.”
Hearing this, Shen Qiu sneered and threw away the melon seed shells in her hand, a trace of disdain flashing in her eyes. “They wouldn’t dare. If they come again, I’m calling the police.”
“Mom, let’s not talk about them, it’s upsetting.” Gu Yinghuai saw the displeasure in Shen Qiu’s eyes and changed the subject. “Mom, I have some good news. The doctor came by this morning and said Huaixu’s recovery is going very well. If she keeps it up, she can try to get out of bed and walk around in a week.”
“That’s good, that’s good. Being able to walk is better than lying in bed waiting for others to serve you.” Shen Qiu was happy in her heart but said the opposite, pretending to be disgusted. “Make sure to get up and move around more next week, you hear? Lying down every day, watch out or you’ll get fat.”
“Shen Huaixu,” eating the fruit Gu Yinghuai fed her, drawled out: “I knoooow—”
How could she not want to walk around? Lying in bed for these seven days had bored her to death. Although she had Gu Yinghuai’s personal care, it was truly agonizing to be able to see but not touch.
Occupying the body’s dominance yet reduced to a state where even holding a small hand was strictly forbidden, with the requirement that she lie still.
One couldn’t even describe this kind of life.
The pain—
Shen Qiu sighed helplessly, seeing her enjoy Yinghuai’s care so shamelessly.
“Yinghuai, you’ve worked hard during this time. Let me and Lin take over for the next part.” Shen Qiu looked at Gu Yinghuai’s figure, which had thinned quite a bit recently, feeling distressed. “You go back to work with peace of mind. Just come to the hospital to see Huaixu on the weekends.”
“Shen Huaixu” also agreed with her mother. “That’s right, Yinghuai, go back to work. Mom will be with me at the hospital, don’t worry.”
Gu Yinghuai had been too tired these past few days. Even though “Shen Huaixu” was reluctant to part, she didn’t want to see Gu Yinghuai exhaust her body just to take care of her.
“Alright, I understand.” However, Gu Yinghuai only agreed to half of it. “But I’ll still come over to sit with you guys after work on weekdays, otherwise, I’ll be very bored staying home alone.”
Shen Qiu laughed lightly. “Good, our Yinghuai can come whenever she wants. It’s good that you’re here to chat with me. Just the thought of having to stay in a ward with Huaixu every day starting tomorrow makes me feel miserable.”
“…” This was “Shen Huaixu” being disliked.
“Huaixu is being disliked by Mom.” Gu Yinghuai held “Shen Huaixu’s” hand and teased her.
“Shen Huaixu” squeezed her hand back, interlacing their fingers, and acted pitiful. “Now I only have Yinghuai left. Yinghuai, you have to treat me well.”
“Okay.” Gu Yinghuai stroked her head, like stroking a neighbor’s puppy—gentle and filled with pity.
“Shen Huaixu” didn’t feel like she was being treated like a puppy at all; instead, she leaned her head over, taking the initiative to ask Gu Yinghuai to stroke her more.
The couple was being all lovey-dovey. Shen Qiu hadn’t filled up on melon seeds, but now she was fed a mouthful of “dog food” (public display of affection) and was feeling stuffed.
She cleared her throat to remind them that this ward was not a lawless land and that there was a person as big as her right there.
Hearing the cough, a blush swept over Gu Yinghuai’s face. Her eyelashes fluttered as she looked down, and the hand that had been on “Shen Huaixu’s” head was pulled behind her back in an attempt to hide it.
“Shen Huaixu” felt a sense of loss after losing Gu Yinghuai’s loving touch and gave Shen Qiu a resentful look.
Shen Qiu, receiving the look and knowing her presence made her a third wheel, consciously left the ward to go home and get the things she would need for staying overnight.
Shen Qiu: “I’ll be back tonight. Call me if anything happens, I’ll be right here.”
Gu Yinghuai: “Okay, Mom, be careful on the road.”
“Shen Huaixu”: “Take your time.”
Shen Qiu glared at her before leaving, secretly cursing “Shen Huaixu” as a little heartless brat who forgot her mother as soon as she had a wife. Truly heartbreaking.
“Yinghuai, kiss me again. I feel like the wounds on my body are hurting again.” As soon as Shen Qiu left, “Shen Huaixu” tugged on Gu Yinghuai’s sleeve, acting spoiled for a kiss.
Gu Yinghuai knew she was using it as an excuse to ask for a kiss, but she really couldn’t do anything about her nagging. She had no choice but to find a spot on “Shen Huaixu’s” forehead without a wound and lightly plant a kiss to appease the little ancestor.
Night fell, and the silver moonlight spilled onto the floor through the ward’s curtains, drawing a silver-white frame.
“Shen Huaixu” leaned against the pillow, staring blankly at that patch of moonlight.
Since she had regained consciousness, the “Original Body” had been in a deep sleep, so weak that if “Shen Huaixu” exerted just a little force, she would dissipate without leaving a trace.
“Shen Huaixu” had thought about taking the opportunity to strike at the “Original Body.” In that way, she could occupy this body, continue to live as Shen Huaixu, stay by Gu Yinghuai’s side, and never be separated again.
But… should she really do that?
“Shen Huaixu” remembered when she first woke up, and Gu Yinghuai was keeping watch by the bed, her eyes blurred with tears.
She also remembered the look of shock in Gu Yinghuai’s eyes and the way her face instantly lost its color after recognizing that she wasn’t the original Shen Huaixu. And when they were the only two left in the ward, Gu Yinghuai’s voice trembled uncontrollably as she asked, suppressing her tears: “Is she… okay?”
Maybe wait a little longer…
“Shen Huaixu” closed her eyes, and the ethereal moonlight vanished into her silver-gray eyes.
