Fell Deeply In Love With My Ex-Husband's Fiancé - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Seeing Lance Again
Looking at Lu Feiran’s marriage certificate photo in the documents…
Secretary Wen Hui was very familiar with Lu Feiran’s name.
Zhai Qiance had given her a schedule, requiring her to send Lu Feiran a token gift on every holiday and anniversary.
Today was the first time Wen Hui had met him in person.
Lu Feiran’s appearance overlapped about 50% with Wen Hui’s imagination.
Wen Hui watched the tall man in a suit walk toward her. His demeanor was calm, and his appearance was so handsome it could even be described as beautiful. If she hadn’t known his identity beforehand, she would have assumed Lu Feiran was an idol star.
Based on the gifts she had been choosing for three years, this man and CEO Zhai could not have a simple lover relationship. Wen Hui thought.
Why did he suddenly decide to come work at Tuowei? How was she supposed to serve this distinguished personage in the future?
“Are you Secretary Wen?” Lu Feiran said, extending his hand. “Hello.”
“Yes, Mr. Lu, hello.” Wen Hui shook his hand and ushered him toward the elevator bank.
Different elevators corresponded to different floors. Wen Hui told Lu Feiran that the leftmost elevator was for high-level executives, subtly indicating he was permitted to use it.
Lu Feiran merely nodded slightly, saying nothing else, forcing Wen Hui to suppress her ballooning curiosity.
From the moment he stepped through the gates of the Tuowei park, Lu Feiran had been meticulously observing everything and everyone.
The grand, soaring, brand-new, and imposing building, and the sharp, capable, and hurried employees—was Tuowei really being managed well by Zhai Qiance?
It seemed unlikely.
Zhai Qiance was a thousand-year-old fox. Meeting with Young Master Deville at this juncture couldn’t just be about ordinary business cooperation.
He would definitely try every means to gain something from the Deville family or the Deville Group, such as marriage. Through marriage, he could acquire enormous benefits.
Zhai Qiance was that kind of person. He had benefited from marriage before and intended to use the same trick again.
As Lu Feiran thought about this, he felt he had grasped something.
He himself didn’t have family support, but Deville was different. Wouldn’t Tuowei be completely swallowed by Deville?
Unless… Zhai Qiance himself was also in distress and desperately needed a large sum of money.
Lu Feiran’s narrowed eyes brightened, and the corners of his mouth curved slightly. He was delighted.
With this thought, Lu Feiran glanced at Secretary Wen Hui.
Wen Hui noticed his gaze and returned a friendly smile: “Mr. Lu, is there a problem?”
Lu Feiran shook his head: “Nothing. Where did CEO Zhai arrange for me to work? He didn’t tell me in advance.”
Wen Hui hesitated. The elevator door just opened. She pondered for a moment and decided to tell the truth.
“Mr. Lu, your position is Assistant in the Administration Department. Assistant work is relatively simple, so you should adapt easily. Please don’t worry.”
Lu Feiran paused, his heels nearly sticking to the floor.
Zhai Qiance wasn’t even pretending anymore, giving him this kind of position? Why didn’t he just assign him to be a cleaner or a guard at the entrance? Wouldn’t that be even further from any confidential information?
His expression shifted for an instant but quickly returned to normal. He smiled and said, “Okay.”
Lu Feiran was led by Wen Hui to an office area and handed over to the Administration Department Manager, a slightly overweight middle-aged man named Wu. Manager Wu told Lu Feiran to find an empty seat and casually pointed to someone to guide him.
The person pointed to was a young girl. She was clearly confused and asked, “Me?”
“Yes, you,” Manager Wu said. “He’s assigned to be your assistant from now on. You can give him any simple, repetitive tasks you have.”
“Oh…” The girl reluctantly agreed but didn’t go to find Lu Feiran, instead continuing her work.
Lu Feiran knew Zhai Qiance was openly marginalizing him.
A dispensable position, a disrespectful manager, and young colleagues who were unaware of the situation.
Did Zhai Qiance think this would infuriate him? It was Lu Xingli, not him, who couldn’t stand being cold-shouldered and neglected, had a short temper, and couldn’t get along with anyone.
Then again, Zhai Qiance never knew what kind of person he was.
Before Lu Xingli appeared, Lu Feiran had always been the center of attention during his stable eighteen years of life.
He was smart, talented, outspoken, always considerate and kind-hearted toward those around him, and very popular.
Of course, he could endure neglect and cold looks. No one, no matter how difficult, could be worse than the Lu family and Zhai Qiance.
Lu Feiran silently tidied up his desk and ordered coffee for everyone in the department. While waiting for the delivery, he targeted the girl when she went to the pantry and followed her.
“Hello, I wanted to ask if you have time to show me the ropes today?”
Lu Feiran’s sudden voice startled the girl pouring water.
She looked a little awkward: “You’re too polite. I’m sorry, the manager didn’t inform me of the work arrangement beforehand, and I’m a newcomer myself, only joining this year, fresh out of graduation. I’m a bit unsure how to assign tasks. I—I was reviewing my work this morning!”
Lu Feiran smiled warmly: “If you guide me, you’ll be my teacher.”
“No, no, don’t call me teacher. My name is Xing Chufei. You can call me Fei Fei.”
Lu Feiran was exceptionally good-looking and gentle towards her. Even though the manager privately told them to be aloof toward Lu Feiran that morning, Xing Chufei felt too embarrassed to comply.
After all, he had approached her so politely. It’s hard to hit a smiling person.
When the delivery arrived, Lu Feiran personally delivered coffee to everyone’s desk and introduced himself humbly and politely. Xing Chufei accepted the coffee first. Other younger colleagues, less thick-skinned, thanked Lu Feiran and also took their coffee.
Although few people spoke in the office due to the manager’s unspoken pressure, the atmosphere was noticeably lighter.
Lu Feiran sat next to Xing Chufei, listening intently to her explanation. Just then, a woman walked over, frowned, and asked, “Who is responsible for the refreshments today? Don’t you know the time is approaching?”
“Ah!” Xing Chufei gasped, “It’s me! I’ll prepare them right away!”
Lu Feiran quickly scanned the woman’s employee badge, recognizing her as being from the Secretary Department.
“I’ll go. I apologize for delaying you because you were teaching me,” Lu Feiran immediately stood up. “Tell me what needs to be done, and I’ll help you.”
Xing Chufei looked as if she had seen a savior: “Thank you so much. Two people from the Secretary Department are on a business trip today. Sister Lin asked me to help, and I forgot. Go to the 50th-floor CEO’s office area. Just follow Sister Lin’s instructions. Thank you.”
The 50th floor had many important guests to host today. Sister Lin, seeing anyone available, immediately instructed Lu Feiran to deliver the prepared items to the VIP room.
Pushing open the VIP room door, Lu Feiran saw a very tall man standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. He had smooth, platinum-blonde hair. His black suit emphasized his straight posture, broad shoulders, and narrow waist. Lu Feiran was involuntarily drawn to him.
Lu Feiran’s leg muscles stiffened slightly. He placed the items on the table, trying to leave as quietly as possible.
But the man turned around. A hint of pleasant surprise appeared in his emerald eyes: “Mr. Lu, don’t you remember me?”
Lu Feiran hadn’t expected to see Lance so soon, and to see him at Tuowei.
He instinctively looked through the glass door at the colleagues walking by, hoping someone would come in to interrupt and allow him to leave!
But no one came to save him.
Lu Feiran’s throat tightened. He didn’t know how he was supposed to face Lance. Assuming Zhai Qiance really intended to ally with the Deville family through marriage, this man was his husband’s fiancé.
My husband’s fiancé…
Lu Feiran was exasperated by the term.
After more than ten seconds, Lu Feiran remained silent. Lance, puzzled, walked over.
He stood in front of Lu Feiran, his tall stature blocking a patch of sunlight. He leaned in slightly, moving closer to Lu Feiran. They were so close Lu Feiran could feel the man’s breath.
Lu Feiran forced himself to stand still and not retreat. He bit the bullet and said, “I remember you.”
“That’s good.” Lance smiled, stepped back a little, and stood up straight.
The air finally flowed back to Lu Feiran.
Lance continued: “Are you an employee of Tuowei? I didn’t see you during my previous visits.”
Lu Feiran wondered, Why did he come so many times?
“I’m a new hire; I only started today,” Lu Feiran said.
Can’t we just exchange a few pleasantries and be done with it? What is there to talk about? He absolutely did not want to speak to anyone associated with Zhai Qiance!
“No wonder. Then this truly is fate.” Lance sat back on the sofa, crossing his legs, and offered an invitation to Lu Feiran, “Have a seat.”
“I have some things to do…”
“Is Mr. Lu unwilling to spare even this amount of time for me?”
Lance had cut his long, silken hair. With short hair, he shed some of his gentleness, looking fiercely handsome.
His voice wasn’t loud, and his tone was calm, but Lu Feiran felt an unyielding tone in his words.
Lance certainly wouldn’t let Lu Feiran leave.
This was the third time Lu Feiran had appeared before him. The last time was yesterday when he saw Lu Feiran and Zhai Qiance’s marriage certificate photo.
It was a result of the due diligence conducted by the Deville Group before investing in Tuowei.
Zhai Qiance needed the Deville Group’s capital and a marriage connection to continuously receive support.
He had already informed Madam Deville of his “business marriage” story with Lu Feiran. Facing the due diligence, he naturally didn’t hide anything, directly confirming his marital relationship with shareholder Lu Feiran and providing the marriage certificate as proof.
It was a small detail, but it showed his attitude. Zhai Qiance believed he had done the right thing.
Looking at Lu Feiran’s marriage certificate photo in the documents, Lance felt a strange itch even in his veins.
His thumb rubbed against Lu Feiran’s face in the picture, as if trying to erase the happy smile on the marriage photo.
So, he is Zhai Qiance’s husband, the person on the other end of that phone call…
Lu Feiran, the man deeply in love with his husband, making a possessive call—was it actually a sign that he had long discovered his husband’s infidelity? He was afraid of losing him, he was also unwilling to concede, and he even stood in the unseen corner waiting, seeing his husband with someone else, seemingly having ulterior motives.
He ultimately revealed that expression:
Restraint, pain, and hate. And hate is always born from love.
Zhai Qiance, so unremarkable, even his bad deeds were clumsy.
Lance genuinely wanted to ask: What do you love about such a worthless man, Lu Feiran?
Also, why was Lu Feiran avoiding seeing him? Did he mistake Lance for his husband’s cheating partner…?
That seemed plausible. He had met Zhai Qiance under the name of Noah.
But if that was the case, why did Lu Feiran wipe the raindrops from his face that night? Shouldn’t he hate him too?
Strange. Why doesn’t he hate me? Shouldn’t the original spouse hate the third party?
Lu Feiran’s emotions seemed intense—what he gave was deep and fervent—but toward Lance in this role, it felt very superficial.
Lance was unwilling to accept this. He also felt it was unfair.
If Lu Feiran didn’t want to see him, he would deliberately draw closer, making it impossible for Lu Feiran to pretend anymore!
Lu Feiran looked at Lance, not speaking or moving closer. He sighed and said, “Thank you for last time. If it weren’t for you, I would have been very embarrassed. Since you’ll be coming to Tuowei often, I’ll bring the umbrella next time I’m at work and return it to you when convenient.”
This way, there won’t be any more interaction, right?
Lance stared at Lu Feiran, ignoring the matter of the umbrella, and asked, “In your Chinese expression, would you say we are fated?”
Lu Feiran was startled: “I suppose so.”
Lance continued: “Why were you standing out there in the rain that day? Can you tell me why?”
“This…” Lu Feiran hadn’t expected Lance to ask that so suddenly, leaving him speechless for a moment.
Lance: “I’m just curious. Who was bullying you?”
Lu Feiran gave a wry smile. Was he that distraught back then?
“No one was bullying me, and no one can abandon me.”
Lance’s concern and curiosity were too direct, making Lu Feiran somewhat unable to handle it.
Lu Feiran saw a very distinct investigative curiosity in his eyes, feeling an urge to flee for a moment. But soon, Lance smiled, and that curiosity vanished, turning into a warm spring.
“If you don’t want to talk about it, I certainly won’t pressure you,” Lance’s voice deepened. “But since we are fated, would you mind exchanging contact information with me?”
“…No problem.” Lu Feiran couldn’t find an excuse to refuse and had to agree, sending over his full name.
“Then we are friends, Feiran.” Lance saw the message and immediately changed his form of address.
Lu Feiran was about to ask for Lance’s full name when Zhai Qiance’s voice suddenly cut in: “What friends?”
