Chapter 32: The Strange Aspect: What does Noen know?
Lu Feiran had the photo from the summit of WuXia Mountain printed and framed.
In the faint morning light, his and Lance’s faces were bathed in an orange-red glow, making it hard to tell if it was the blush from his sudden confession or the reflection of the rising sun.
In the photo, he was slightly looking up, raising his delicate chin, his face filled with happiness.
Lance was still asleep. Lu Feiran placed the photo on the bedside table and tiptoed out.
He sent a message to Jian Xu: [I’m ready. Have you arrived?]
Jian Xu: [I’ve arrived.]
Lu Feiran had arranged to meet Jian Xu to go to the Provincial First Hospital’s Psychiatry Department for a detailed examination and to obtain supporting evidence for a judicial appraisal. He was determined to remove the “schizophrenia” label that Lu Liye had forcibly placed on him!
The Provincial First Hospital was where Jian Xu worked. She helped arrange for an authoritative specialist to see Lu Feiran, but they needed to go a little earlier to avoid disturbing other patients.
However, Lu Feiran didn’t expect to run into an acquaintance here.
Cheng Ming, in a white coat, was refined and politely discussing case files with a colleague, but the moment he saw Lu Feiran, he lost some of his composure.
Lu Feiran, who had finished his examination, paused, looked at Cheng Ming for over ten seconds, and then suddenly remembered seeing Cheng Ming at Lance’s house.
But, wasn’t he supposed to be the DeWei family’s private doctor? Why was he in the Psychiatry Department?
Lu Feiran glanced at the name tag on Cheng Ming’s chest, then looked at the wall with the list of doctors further away, confirming the match.
“Dr. Cheng?”
“Mr. Lu, what a coincidence,” Cheng Ming stammered slightly.
“You’re a doctor here? Thank you for seeing me last time despite your busy schedule. Are you… working a side job?” Lu Feiran asked.
Cheng Ming could only go along with it: “Yes, just earning a little extra. Please don’t tell anyone, Mr. Lu! I beg you!”
He clasped his hands together and smiled broadly, bowing to Lu Feiran.
Lu Feiran quickly waved his hands, saying he wouldn’t. In fact, he didn’t care what Cheng Ming was doing. He only stopped to greet and exchange pleasantries with an acquaintance out of politeness.
Just as he was about to leave, Lu Feiran heard Cheng Ming ask, “Mr. Lu, are you here for a check-up today? Is everything well recently? Has anything unusual happened?”
He sounded a little anxious, with obvious unease in his voice, which made Lu Feiran curious.
Lu Feiran didn’t want to disclose his private matters: “I’m here for some check-ups today. It’s an old recurring issue. I’m completely fine. Is there anything you need to remind me of, Dr. Cheng?”
“Good, then I’m relieved,” Cheng Ming seemed aware of his abruptness, smiled apologetically, and called over a nurse beside him. “Then I need to get back to work. Mr. Lu, take care.”
Lu Feiran nodded, took the diagnostic report, and went downstairs to find Jian Xu, who was on duty. He waited for her in her small lounge until her shift ended.
His phone vibrated twice. It was a message from Lance: [Where did you go, Ranran?]
A smile appeared on Lu Feiran’s face. He replied: [Having lunch with my aunt. Going to check on the Egret Garden renovations this afternoon. I’ll be back tonight to eat with you! [Little bird making heart shape.jpg]]
[[Little bird receiving heart shape.jpg] Waiting for you back tonight for cream pork ribs.]
Lu Feiran exchanged a few more messages with Lance, indulging in sweet talk for a while.
He scrolled up to review their chat history over the past few days, finally realizing what “responding to every message” meant. It turned out that messaging a lover could be a back-and-forth exchange, not just a monologue from him alone anymore.
But, it was strange. Lu Feiran wondered why Lance could stay home all the time recently, without needing to go to school or handle company matters.
Seeing Jian Xu approaching him after changing out of her white coat, Lu Feiran shook his head and stopped thinking about it.
Jian Xu said, “Has your father contacted you recently?”
Lu Feiran recalled the continuous stream of missed calls on his phone. He said, “Yes, but I blocked him. Why?”
Jian Xu smiled helplessly: “Some time ago, Lu Xingli got into trouble. He offended someone. It seems… he injured someone.”
“Assault?” Lu Feiran looked up. “Who did he injure that Lu Liye can’t handle it and is coming to me?”
Jian Xu shook her head, saying she didn’t know.
Lu Feiran sneered: “Chances are, after the fuss that day, Zhai Qiance broke things off with them. He couldn’t contact Zhai Qiance, so he called me. And then?”
“At first, the other party was very firm, saying Lu Xingli would have to pay an equivalent price.”
Lu Feiran knew Jian Xu disliked Lu Xingli, but even Jian Xu frowned slightly, indicating the matter was indeed unusual.
Jian Xu continued: “Lu Liye was frantic. He used all means but couldn’t locate Lu Xingli. In desperation, he was about to call the police and escalate the matter, when Zhai Qiance finally stepped in and told him to wait.”
Lu Feiran chuckled lightly: “But Zhai Qiance didn’t help him in the end, did he?”
“Of course not. After that, he became unreachable again. However, Lu Xingli came back the next day. He was terrified and had lost a lot of weight. He was too pampered and ignorant. This time, he certainly learned a lesson.” Jian Xu changed the subject, “Ranran, how are things between you and Zhai…?”
“We’re divorced,” Lu Feiran said cheerfully.
“Divorced? That fast?” Jian Xu’s eyes widened, looking unconvinced. “How could someone like him agree to a divorce so quickly? Ranran, don’t stay alone during this time. Be careful of him playing dirty tricks.”
Lu Feiran patted Jian Xu’s shoulder to reassure her: “I’ve been staying with a friend recently. I’m very safe.”
After lunch, Lu Feiran’s relaxed and cheerful demeanor changed to one of seriousness.
This whole matter was very strange. Something unusual must have happened without his knowledge, forcing Zhai Qiance to cut his losses and run.
Once Zhai Qiance recovered his strength, he would definitely turn around and bite back immediately.
…
Lu Xingli was haggard, with dark circles under his eyes. He stood dizzily on the side of the main road, swaying as if he might collapse at any moment. Passersby cast worried glances—what had this person gone through?
It only took a moment to fall from heaven to hell. Since he sent that video to Lu Feiran, the situation’s development was no longer something he could control.
His three years with Zhai Qiance felt like a magnificent curtain. Only after accidentally pulling it aside did he realize there was a blank space behind it—nothing at all.
Zhai Qiance didn’t love him at all. He was just one of many lovers to pass the time, not much different from the “ducks” outside. He had mistakenly thought it was love.
He had believed it was some kind of epoch-making, forbidden romance! It was all nonsense!
Zhai Qiance turned on him faster than flipping a book. He not only hit him but also allowed the DeWei family’s people to bully him without intervening.
Was he, Lu Xingli, just a sacrificial lamb for Zhai Qiance’s next marriage?
What a joke!
Lu Xingli had been staking out the hospital entrance for several days. He wanted to wait for the young master who was going to marry Zhai Qiance and publicly expose all the scum’s disgusting past.
Even if, even if the DeWei family didn’t care, it would still disgust Zhai Qiance and make his life miserable!
A black sedan with a particularly memorable license plate number drove out of the underground parking lot. The privacy glass completely obscured the interior, making it impossible to see if the person he was looking for was inside.
Lu Xingli hardened his resolve, dragging his exhausted body and rushing forward, throwing himself in front of the car.
The driver slammed on the brakes, the brake discs screeching loudly. Once the car stopped, the driver immediately got out to check, only to see Lu Xingli rush to the other side and forcibly open the rear passenger door.
Noen was thrown forward by the inertia, nearly hitting his already injured head against the front seat, adding insult to injury. Fortunately, Lance grabbed his shoulder and steadied him.
He definitely had to wear his seatbelt next time! It wasn’t his “fateful year” this year, so why was he encountering bad luck?
The door opened. He turned his head and his expression drastically changed, feeling worse than if he had swallowed a fly.
Why was it this Lu person again!
He looked like he was about to die from bad luck. If he wanted to die, why bring him along?!
“What else do you want? I was already merciful enough to let you go home. Do you insist on provoking me again?” Noen threatened harshly. “Do you want to go to jail?”
“No, I have something to tell you…” Lu Xingli had never been treated with this attitude before. He gritted his teeth, intending to spill everything he wanted to say, but upon looking up and seeing Lance, his mind went blank.
Cold eyes, arrogant expression, handsome face… the person he met at the gallery!
He also had blonde hair. Was he a DeWei?
What a coincidence, a real coincidence.
Was this the compensation that God was giving him?
“You are…” Lu Xingli leaned forward, wanting to see more clearly. But Lance merely frowned in annoyance and looked away.
Noen watched Lu Xingli stare blankly at Lance and felt a surge of displeasure.
I’m so handsome, but my face was smashed with a brick by you, and yet you’re now infatuated with Lance. You must have a screw loose.
Noen said impatiently, “If you have nothing to say, get lost. Stop staring at my uncle, you lunatic!”
The driver closed the car door. The hospital security came over and kept Lu Xingli a good distance away from the car. He missed his chance and couldn’t speak to them anymore.
“That’s the guy who hit me with the brick. He said Zhai Qiance was his husband. Did you know that?” Noen secretly watched Lance’s expression, trying to find some flaw, but Lance remained completely unmoved.
Noen deliberately spoke mockingly: “Oh, sigh. Why is Zhai Qiance’s taste so poor, marrying such a sick person? You have to be careful. If he finds out you’re interacting with Zhai Qiance, he might go crazy and kill you.”
Lance still ignored Noen.
Noen felt like a ball of volcanic ash was blocking his heart. He kept talking incessantly, badmouthing Zhai Qiance’s “little husband.”
He deliberately avoided using names, becoming increasingly unguarded: “I feel like Zhai Qiance’s husband has terrible taste. He loves a scumbag like that to death, can’t tell good from bad, and probably won’t ever fall in love with anyone else for his whole life!”
Lance suddenly covered Noen’s mouth, his eyebrow twitching. A flicker of emotion, named “displeasure,” surfaced on his indifferent face: “You are too noisy. Be quiet. Get to the point. I’m busy.”
Noen glanced at the time. It was almost dinner. Busy with what? Busy going back to cook?
“I just wanted to tell you that I’m injured recently. Zhai Qiance is quite anxious and keeps trying to visit me, dropping hints about my attitude every day. He’s probably worried this incident will ruin the marriage alliance. You should avoid meeting him during this time. I can communicate with him on WeChat,” Noen pretended to be ignorant of the situation. “But seriously, how can this person be so shameless? He’s not even divorced yet, and he’s constantly being attentive to others.”
Lance frowned slightly, a rare expression of “displeasure” surfacing.
Noen immediately understood. Lance still didn’t know the truth!
But why was that person also hiding it from him? Zhai Qiance hid his marriage then; was he hiding his divorce now too? Or… was this part of their play?
“Soon,” a clear and gentle voice pronounced judgment on Zhai Qiance. “He will disappear soon.”
Lance had already arranged for someone to leak Du Nüshi’s whereabouts in Europe to Zhou Zihua. As long as Lu Feiran did a little investigation, he could easily uncover all the details behind the scenes.
He also used the name of collaboration to make TuoWei heavily indebted, pouring in massive amounts of funds, but the DeWei Group’s capital would not actually enter.
Lance didn’t genuinely intend to collaborate with Zhai Qiance. No matter how bad his family was, it wasn’t something a stray dog like Zhai Qiance could covet.
By then, Lu Feiran, knowing all the truth and seeing the bankrupt Zhai Qiance, would surely want a divorce, wouldn’t he?
As for the company TuoWei, Lance could manage everything and then gift it to Lu Feiran, as long as he liked it, as long as he was happy.
“Then why don’t you come home for dinner?” Noen probed. “Bring the person who came to your house last time too?”
Lance glanced sideways, his dark gaze enveloping Noen.
What does Noen know?
