Fell Deeply In Love With My Ex-Husband's Fiancé - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: True Colors Revealed
Zhai Qiance’s voice drifted like a funeral bell from hell…
Zhai Qiance’s sudden interrogation didn’t make Lu Feiran falter. Lu Feiran calmly changed his shoes, wiped his hands with a towel, and replied, “My stomach hurt, so I found someone else to rub it for me.”
“Oh?” Zhai Qiance raised an eyebrow. “Who was it?”
Lu Feiran glanced at him, wondering where Zhai Qiance’s sudden curiosity came from. Zhai Qiance had never been so concerned about his affairs before.
Dating different people every day, kissing everywhere, acting no different from an animal—what right did he have to ask who Lu Feiran was with?
Lu Feiran couldn’t resist glaring at Zhai Qiance. Like a sharp blade piercing his heart, he felt disgusted just looking at his husband’s pretentious face.
He was too tired and had no energy to spar with Zhai Qiance. He just wanted to rest first, close his eyes, and avoid what he couldn’t bear to see.
“Lu Feiran, answer my question!”
Lu Feiran’s glare was too piercing, stoking Zhai Qiance’s anger further. He violently grabbed Lu Feiran’s wrist, almost yanking him off balance.
If Lu Feiran had genuinely been uncomfortable at home and waited for him to return, then he could have forgiven Lu Feiran’s childishness and overlooked the disruption to his important dinner party.
But Lu Feiran dared to play him?
“Do you know how important the dinner party you interrupted was with your phone call? Does your stomach hurt? Let me see?”
He was clearly furious but still tried to smile, which looked distorted and terrifying. Before Lu Feiran could speak, he reached for Lu Feiran’s stomach. Didn’t he want a rub?
“W-what are you doing!” Lu Feiran was frightened by Zhai Qiance’s expression. He desperately struggled to back away, but couldn’t escape Zhai Qiance’s grip.
Zhai Qiance had gone mad! Although he usually gave Lu Feiran the silent treatment, he always maintained a pretense of decency and had never been physically abusive!
A rare look of despair finally appeared on Lu Feiran’s face.
This was the real Zhai Qiance: uncultured, temperamental, prone to violence, and the same kind of person as Lu Liye (his father).
Lu Feiran had always looked down on such people.
The husband he chose, the husband he once loved, was this kind of person!
Lu Feiran subconsciously covered his head, then heard Aunt Chen gasp: “Oh dear, why are you two arguing, Mr. and Mrs. Zhai? Mr. Lu was having dinner with Mr. Zhou today. Young people should communicate properly.”
Time seemed to freeze for a moment.
“Shut up. It’s not your place to speak.”
Zhai Qiance suppressed his fierce anger, shot a glance at Aunt Chen, threw Lu Feiran’s wrist aside, and returned to the bedroom with a dark face.
The door slammed shut with a loud bang. Lu Feiran leaned against the wall, clutching his aching wrist, staring intently at the circle of bruises forming there.
He was trembling.
He had never argued with Zhai Qiance before.
Early on, Zhai Qiance always indulged Lu Feiran. Later, Zhai Qiance used cold treatment, and they barely met or spoke a few times a month—they didn’t even have a chance to argue.
The first argument was like this.
This was the first time Zhai Qiance had exposed his true self to Lu Feiran: impulsive, irritable, and inclined to be physical—the same breed as Lu Liye.
His chosen husband, the husband he had once loved, was this kind of person!
Looking up again, Aunt Chen was gone, not staying to witness his distressed state.
Once his breathing calmed, Lu Feiran looked at the master bedroom door and thought contemptuously, Who knows how many people they’ve slept with on that bed?
He stood on the stairs, looked down, and weakly instructed Aunt Chen: “Please help me clean up the study. Thank you.”
“Right away, Mr. Lu.”
After taking a shower, Lu Feiran went into the study, locked the door, and opened the monitoring backend on his computer, his brows furrowed.
A segment of the video was missing.
The part where Zhai Qiance and Lu Xingli were passionately kissing had disappeared.
Lu Feiran pursed his lips and flipped back through a month’s worth of monitoring footage; there were no other abnormal scenes.
The video had been scrubbed.
Zhai Qiance still cared about his reputation enough to delete the video himself. If so, there was no telling how many times he had brought Lu Xingli over. Perhaps, besides Lu Xingli, there were others…
It didn’t matter that the video was deleted. He had taken pictures yesterday.
Lu Feiran immediately sent the surveillance screenshots he took yesterday to Zhou Zihua, then backed them up in five different locations.
Coincidentally, Zhou Zihua called immediately after receiving the images: “Isn’t that bastard Lu Xingli? A broken pot for a broken lid—a cheating husband and a homewrecker!”
Lu Feiran’s eyes dimmed. Zhai Qiance clearly knew he hated those two people named Lu the most, yet he still slept with Lu Xingli.
Since you two are so inseparable, then you can ruin your reputations together! Let you two die together!
“Lu Garden is filthy. Who knows how many disgusting things they’ve done here,” Lu Feiran’s tone was flat but firm. “I’m going to install some cameras at home. If they like doing it, I’ll let them do it to their heart’s content.”
Zhou Zihua was ecstatic: “Good man, that’s my brother. You recovered quickly! Film it and we’ll promote them!”
Lu Feiran’s hands trembled slightly. Once he exposed this, he too would lose face. But he had already been disgraced enough over the years; one more time wouldn’t matter!
Three years ago, Zhai Qiance had nothing to lose; now, Lu Feiran was the one who had nothing to lose.
“The sooner, the better. Bring people to install them tomorrow while he’s out.”
“No problem!”
Lu Feiran thought of something: “Will they be detected? Like a flashing red dot or something?”
“A professional scan would definitely find them,” Zhou Zihua’s expression was complicated. “Is he so suspicious that he doesn’t even trust your bedroom?”
What “our” bedroom?
Lu Feiran felt completely uneasy, as if ants were crawling all over his skin—itchy and disgusted, provoking him to jump up.
So disgusting!
But… no. If he completely tore off the facade with Zhai Qiance now, Zhai Qiance would definitely become suspicious.
A husband who had always been devoted suddenly hated him fiercely—he must have discovered something. Where did he discover it? Zhai Qiance would start investigating things closest to him.
I must stabilize Zhai Qiance for a while first, Lu Feiran thought.
The next day, Zhai Qiance was indeed not home again. He didn’t ask Lu Feiran why he slept in the study, nor did he mention the previous night’s argument.
Zhou Zihua loved tinkering with gadgets since high school. He was quick and soon installed cameras in several key locations: inside the main door, the sofa area, the bedroom…
However, Zhai Qiance’s study was always locked, and Lu Feiran couldn’t get in.
Zhou Zihua arrived at Lu Feiran’s study, saw the small, 1.2-meter-wide folding bed next to the large desk, pointed at the bed, and cried out against the injustice: “Why are you sleeping here? Kick him out and sleep in the master bedroom! Oh, wait, that place is disgusting… Then sleep in the guest room. Why sleep here?”
Lu Feiran rubbed his tired eyes: “I was watching the surveillance footage here last night.”
“How was it?”
“Cleanly deleted, except for the few photos I sent you.”
Zhou Zihua sighed: “Why don’t you come stay at my place? That will give them a chance to film some material.”
Lu Feiran shook his head: “In a few days, I’ll find an excuse to come out. I just argued with him yesterday.”
Lu Feiran logged into several monitoring backends on the computer to check the footage. After confirming everything was correct, he invited Zhou Zihua to stay for dinner.
Zhou Zihua agreed. His gaze shifted, fixing on the half of Lu Feiran’s wrist that was exposed while he was using the mouse.
His eyes narrowed: “Did he hit you?”
Lu Feiran covered his wrist, saying, “No, we had a slight disagreement. He didn’t hit me.”
Strictly speaking, Zhai Qiance hadn’t actually struck him. He might have intended to do something, but Aunt Chen interrupted him.
Lu Feiran didn’t intend to elaborate with Zhou Zihua. There was no need to worry him too much. He quickly changed the subject and glossed over it.
At 11:30 AM, Zhai Qiance returned, not too late.
Lu Feiran blocked the path of the alcohol-reeking Zhai Qiance at the bedroom door: “I have something to talk to you about.”
Lu Feiran was thin and tall. His dark pajamas made his complexion appear even paler. His eyes were moist and expressive, but his voice was cold and clear.
Zhai Qiance looked at Lu Feiran, his thoughts stirring.
Yesterday’s Lu Feiran looked serious and solemn, and coupled with the wet black shirt, he found Lu Feiran exceptionally beautiful.
He was much more vivid than his usual perpetually cold and aloof self. It was the same today.
If Lu Feiran hadn’t insisted on arguing and glared at him yesterday, he wouldn’t have minded being a little gentler with Lu Feiran.
In the end, it was Lu Feiran who was tactless.
As Lu Feiran walked past him, Zhai Qiance wrapped an arm around Lu Feiran’s waist and pulled him closer to his chest.
His lips almost touched Lu Feiran’s forehead, but Lu Feiran coughed, making the kiss miss.
Zhai Qiance asked directly: “What is it?”
“About yesterday, I was wrong. I was just throwing a bit of a tantrum because you always come home so late.”
Lu Feiran had rehearsed this dozens of times in the restroom, striving to deliver the lines with emotion even if his expression remained blank.
He spoke with a voice that was both aggrieved and coquettish, as if he were truly sad about his husband’s neglect.
Fortunately, Zhai Qiance couldn’t see his expression. Lu Feiran couldn’t resist rolling his eyes repeatedly.
Lu Feiran rarely spoke in such a soft, pleading, submissive tone. Zhai Qiance was startled to feel the passion he had lost for Lu Feiran for two years return.
But this was not a good time. He had already decided to divorce Lu Feiran.
Perhaps choosing Lu Feiran, the Lu family outcast, was a mistake from the start. What good was the extremely generous dowry Lu Feiran’s grandmother had prepared?
If he had chosen Lu Feiran’s half-brother instead, playing the long game, things wouldn’t have escalated to the point of divorce now.
Ultimately, wasn’t it because Lu Feiran was too dependent on him?
Zhai Qiance thought helplessly, I’ll be nice to Lu Feiran today.
“Ranran, let me kiss you.”
Unexpectedly, the thin man in his arms put a hand over his lower face, gently pushing him away.
“Let’s talk about business first.”
Zhai Qiance’s face was pushed away by Lu Feiran, yet he wasn’t angered. Instead, he waited for Lu Feiran to continue.
Lu Feiran narrowed his eyes: “My condition is much better now. It’s not right to keep avoiding contact with the outside world. I only have Zhou Zihua as a friend. I want to go to the company to gain some experience. Who should I contact on Monday?”
He didn’t ask if he could go, but directly decided the outcome and the timing.
Zhai Qiance let go of Lu Feiran, pulled off his tie, and walked toward the walk-in closet, frowning without speaking.
Why bring up joining the company at this critical moment?
Lu Feiran followed Zhai Qiance into the closet, pressing the issue: “A-Ce, is this matter so difficult for you? You’ve been thinking for a long time.”
“No.” Zhai Qiance slowly unbuttoned his shirt, exposing his muscular chest. He turned around, stroked Lu Feiran’s cheek, and said gently, “I’m just thinking about what position to arrange for you. Although you graduated from A University, you have no work experience. It wouldn’t be appropriate to jump into a high position right away.”
He casually placed the stripped-off shirt into Lu Feiran’s hand.
Lu Feiran frowned, his eyes narrowing. He dropped the shirt onto the floor and kicked it a little further away with his foot.
When Zhai Qiance looked at him with displeasure, Lu Feiran tilted his head and asked, “A-Ce, why does your clothes smell of perfume? You said before that you hate wearing perfume the most. It can’t possibly be your own cologne, can it?”
Zhai Qiance rubbed his temple, thinking he shouldn’t have come back early.
Before, he always came back late, and Lu Feiran didn’t like getting intimate with him, so his anomalies were never noticed.
But today, Lu Feiran, to get into the company, was inevitably clinging to him, and he hadn’t cleaned off the telltale signs, giving Lu Feiran a chance to question him.
“A newcomer in the secretary’s office, clumsy, spilled her own perfume,” Zhai Qiance said casually.
Lu Feiran said nothing. What a poor excuse. Someone who could get into Tuowei wouldn’t make such a low-level mistake.
“Alright,” Lu Feiran smiled and said, “I have a background in finance. How about letting me join the finance department?”
Zhai Qiance’s heart sank, and his entire face immediately chilled: “Ranran, you have no experience. Parachuting in directly would make it difficult to win people over.”
He was like a fierce beast whose wound had been touched, baring its fangs to drive away the offender.
Zhai Qiance glared at Lu Feiran, his mind racing, trying to guess Lu Feiran’s motive. He finally settled on one answer—Lu Feiran felt a crisis and was afraid of losing him.
He softened his tone and said, “I’ll make arrangements. You go find Secretary Wen on Monday.”
“Okay.”
Lu Feiran nodded, seemingly reassured. After some small talk, he was about to leave for the study. He couldn’t wait to change out of the pajamas that Zhai Qiance had touched!
“Ranran, aren’t you going to sleep with me tonight?”
Zhai Qiance’s voice drifted like a funeral bell from hell, making Lu Feiran break out in a cold sweat.
