Fell Deeply In Love With My Ex-Husband's Fiancé - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: A Dog With No Home
Zhai Qiance closed the door and viciously slapped Lu Xing…
On a weekday morning, everyone was in a hurry. Lu Feiran waited in the reception room on the ground floor for a while until after the official start of work before taking the elevator upstairs.
The moment secretary Wen Hui saw him, she couldn’t hide her surprised expression. She immediately followed him, asking if he needed any help.
She was very friendly and kind, but Lu Feiran knew Wen Hui was afraid he had come to cause trouble.
“Ms. Wen, I’m a major shareholder, so of course, I can come to inspect the company anytime,” Lu Feiran gave a gentle smile. “But today I’m here to see Zhai Qiance. We have business to discuss. Please take me to him.”
“Of course,” Wen Hui breathed a sigh of relief and led him up in the executive elevator.
In the conference room, the signing pen spun between Lu Feiran’s fingers, while Zhai Qiance’s jaw remained tight. His eyes were like knives, desperate to carve pieces off Lu Feiran’s face.
Zhai Qiance was accompanied by a lawyer specializing in corporate and marital law.
Tuowei was virtually built with Lu Feiran’s assets. Initially, Lu Feiran held a large percentage of shares, but over the years, Zhai Qiance had continuously diluted them.
Zhai Qiance proposed to pay Lu Feiran the fair value for his equity and buy all the shares Lu Feiran held.
Lu Feiran disagreed: “That seems like a huge loss for me. Everyone knows that Tuowei and DeWitt have reached a strategic cooperation, and the market value will be immeasurable in the future. Press releases have been sent out one after another. Do you think I wouldn’t see them?”
Zhai Qiance: “This is not a small sum of money. Once you have it, it’s enough for you to squander for most of your life. If you agree, we will divorce immediately after signing the contract.”
Lu Feiran pressed the signing pen onto the table, making a crisp sound that drew Zhai Qiance’s attention. He said, “I don’t agree. These are two separate matters. I said I’m only here to talk about the divorce. Also, stop monitoring me.”
Lu Feiran continued: “I’ve made some new friends, and I don’t need my ex-husband’s constant attention. They don’t know who I am right now, but if you keep this up, no one can say what will happen next.”
Lu Feiran calmly tossed a threat back at Zhai Qiance.
The atmosphere in the conference room was eerily heavy. Beneath the polished facade, two bloodthirsty beasts were tearing at each other’s throats.
Zhai Qiance lifted his gaze, settling on Lu Feiran’s face. The young husband, unseen for a few days, radiated endless vitality, thriving and growing towards the sun.
The rejuvenated Lu Feiran naturally carried a noble demeanor, as if nothing mattered much to him, or perhaps he believed everything he did was under his control, which made him so composed.
Zhai Qiance struggled and schemed to achieve this level of composure, while Lu Feiran was born this way—this was also why Zhai Qiance disliked him.
The one holding the leverage now was Lu Feiran. Since he wanted a divorce, Zhai Qiance would grant it. If Lu Feiran changed his mind or caused a public scandal, the only one who would suffer the loss was Zhai Qiance.
Even if the shares remained in Lu Feiran’s hands after the divorce, once he was dead, everything would be manageable.
The two had their own hidden motives, and under the witness of the lawyer, they signed a divorce agreement that stipulated the asset division plan apart from the equity.
Zhai Qiance got up and left, while Lu Feiran remained sitting in the distance, resting and taking a sip of the tea the secretary had brewed.
The conference room had an excellent view. It was on the same floor as Zhai Qiance’s office. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, covering the floor like a golden carpet. Looking out the window, the entire city was visible.
Lu Feiran loved basking in the sun. He leaned back comfortably in the office chair, narrowing his eyes, transforming from a fighting lion into a lazy cat.
What he wanted was not money, but this company. He also wanted to sit in the office that originally belonged to Zhai Qiance.
A sudden noise erupted outside the conference room. Lu Feiran curiously strained his ears to listen.
This floor, besides Zhai Qiance’s office, only had the secretarial office and a few empty conference rooms. Who could be causing a ruckus here?
Soon, he heard a familiar voice—it was Lu Xingli.
Lu Feiran had always felt that Lu Xingli had fewer brain folds than others. Besides being good at sucking up, he couldn’t accomplish anything serious and was prone to causing trouble and losing his temper.
Otherwise, Lu Liye wouldn’t have been wrapped around his mother and him a few years ago, only to regret it now and keep “accidentally” calling him.
Of course, Lu Feiran hadn’t answered any of them.
Lu Feiran leaned against the conference table, watching a shadow sprint in, followed by several people.
Two minutes later, a fierce argument erupted from the direction of Zhai Qiance’s office, and the door was slammed shut.
Zhai Qiance closed the door and viciously slapped Lu Xingli.
If this fool hadn’t filmed the video and sent it to Lu Feiran himself, how could Zhai Qiance be in such a passive position! Everything was a mess!
Lu Xingli’s face instantly swelled up, his ears ringing, and the whole world spinning. He covered his face, leaning against the desk and crouching on the floor to recover for a while before he could open his eyes.
His vision was blurred. Through his tears, Lu Xingli saw Zhai Qiance’s look of disgust.
Lu Xingli suddenly realized his mistake. How dare he come directly to Tuowei? But Zhai Qiance hadn’t contacted him for a long time. If he didn’t come to Tuowei, he might never see Zhai Qiance again!
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s my fault,” Lu Xingli tried to salvage the situation. “I just wanted to see you…”
He cried pitifully, but Zhai Qiance was completely unmoved.
Lu Xingli was merely a small toy for him to pass the time. Every time he went to the Lu family, Lu Xingli would circle his feet like a small dog. So, he just played with the dog for a while, nothing more.
Zhai Qiance wiped his hands with a handkerchief, looking at Lu Xingli kneeling at his feet. The moment Lu Xingli looked up, Zhai Qiance covered his face with the handkerchief.
Lu Feiran’s words had a big impact on Zhai Qiance. After that day, whenever he saw Lu Xingli, Zhai Qiance was reminded of his father-in-law, Lu Liye, who bore a five-point resemblance to him.
Zhai Qiance considered that he had too many young, handsome men to choose from and didn’t need to make himself miserable.
He looked down at Lu Xingli with a completely condescending posture, pulled over a chair, and sat down. He used the toe of his handcrafted leather shoe to lift Lu Xingli’s chin: “Who allowed you to come to my company, hmm? In what capacity are you causing trouble for me here?”
Lu Xingli removed the tear-soaked handkerchief, nudging Zhai Qiance’s leather shoe with his chin in a flattering gesture, crawling forward bit by bit against Zhai Qiance’s indifferent gaze.
He cautiously placed his hand on Zhai Qiance’s thigh, delusionally hoping to return to the way things were.
Before Lu Xingli’s hand could explore further, Zhai Qiance raised his hand and gripped Lu Xingli’s neck.
He watched Lu Xingli tremble, yet contradict his instincts by cooperating with all his might, being humble and fawning. Suddenly, he recalled the arrogant smile on Lu Feiran’s face when he was choking him that night.
Idiot.
Zhai Qiance displaced his anger onto Lu Xingli, looking at him like he was trash: “Don’t ever appear in front of me again. If you’re not willing to leave on your own, I’ll break your legs and throw you out.”
Lu Xingli was unwilling but, having been scolded, could only leave Zhai Qiance’s office looking dejected.
He knew what had changed Zhai Qiance’s feelings for him—it was Norn DeWitt! It had to be that person. He was arrogant and haughty. Zhai Qiance’s second marriage had already cost him his dignity. How could he allow Zhai Qiance to keep another lover?
He didn’t dare to show dissatisfaction toward Zhai Qiance, so he could only direct his anger elsewhere.
If I just deal with Norn, everything will go back to normal, right?
Lu Feiran couldn’t hear the gossip or see his ex-husband’s embarrassment, so he was about to leave. But before he did, he saw Lu Xingli. Seeing his eyes and left cheek swollen and him looking pathetic, like a dog with no home, Lu Feiran’s mood instantly improved.
Unexpectedly, Lu Xingli actually spoke to him first.
“You know Norn DeWitt, don’t you?” Lu Xingli asked with a hoarse voice.
Lu Feiran’s neck stiffened. He mechanically turned his head to look at him, reading the reckless ruthlessness in his eyes—a crazy dog with nothing to lose, biting wildly at anyone it saw.
Several people were following Lu Xingli, apparently to ensure he left the premises quietly and to prevent him from causing further trouble.
The door to the secretarial office opened, and several crisp and capable young men and women walked out. They were discussing how DeWitt would be sending someone over today to talk about the equity investment and how CEO Zhai hoped to finalize it as soon as possible.
Lu Feiran’s fingers trembled. He noticed Lu Xingli’s attention being drawn by the secretaries’ conversation, and a bad feeling arose in his heart.
Will he come?
Lu Feiran didn’t answer Lu Xingli’s question, using the excuse that he needed to go to the administrative department to retrieve his personal belongings left there. He didn’t leave.
He sat restlessly at his former desk. When Xing Chufei saw him, her eyes immediately lit up.
“Brother Lu, you’re back?” Xing Chufei saw the manager was absent and started talking to Lu Feiran. “I heard you were fired. Was it because Fatty Wu targeted you? You did so well, how could you be fired?”
Lu Feiran didn’t explain the reason, only saying, “It doesn’t matter. We will meet again in the future.”
Xing Chufei took this as mere courtesy and sighed, helping Lu Feiran pack his things. She said, “While you were away these past few days, that handsome guy from DeWitt passed by our floor a few times. I think he was looking for you.”
“Looking for me?” Lu Feiran slowed his movements, an unusual ripple stirring in his heart, and he was slightly distracted.
Didn’t he say not to contact him? He thought he was truly heartless, and he hadn’t dared to call him so quickly.
That day, DeWitt helped him, gave him a place to stay, and even prepared dinner for him. He was the one who was wrong for unilaterally deciding to stay in a hotel, disappointing the other party’s good intentions.
“Are you still helping upstairs recently?” Lu Feiran asked casually.
Xing Chufei nodded, complaining a bit: “They don’t have enough staff and won’t hire more, so they just keep exploiting our department. People from DeWitt have been coming over constantly lately; it’s driving us crazy.”
“Which floor are they on?”
“40th floor.”
Having obtained the floor information, Lu Feiran placed the packed items on the desk, asking Xing Chufei to look after them for a while, and hurried away.
On the 40th floor, seeing Lu Xingli enter the restroom, Lu Feiran couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Zhai Qiance was useless, and the people under him were even more useless. Why didn’t they monitor Lu Xingli until he was completely off the premises? How could he let him sneak back in?
Lu Xingli was waiting, and Lu Feiran was also waiting.
He watched the elevator doors open, and his blond Raphael appeared before him, surrounded by an entourage.
Their eyes met. Lance gave a slight smile, his lips seemingly forming the words “Long time no see.”
Lu Feiran quickly noticed Lu Xingli about to emerge from the restroom. No, he absolutely cannot let Lu Xingli run into him!
Lu Feiran took long strides, quickly walking towards Lance. Under Wen Hui’s astonished gaze, he said to Lance, “I need to talk to you.”
He pulled Lance back into the elevator.
In the empty elevator, only the two of them, Lu Feiran’s nervous gasps and rapid heartbeat were clearly audible, and cold sweat even trickled down his temples.
Lu Feiran had no doubt that if Lu Xingli saw Lance, he would rush over and attack him without hesitation.
A large hand touched Lu Feiran’s temple, wiping away his sweat.
“Didn’t you say you would call me? I waited for a long time.” Lance’s voice was not particularly enthusiastic.
