Fell Deeply In Love With My Ex-Husband's Fiancé - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: The Argument
“Only when you need me, do you remember me?”
Norn’s mind first went blank. He couldn’t react to who might be coming to Lance’s house. Then, Lance pushed him by the shoulder and threw him into the bathroom near the door.
More alarming than being abandoned by Lance, Norn was terrified by the thought: Who has the password to Lance’s front door?
He crouched on the bathroom floor, cautiously opening the door a millimeter, peering out like a cockroach hiding in the shadows.
Lu Feiran had booked a hotel on the way. He found it inconvenient to return to Luyu Garden for the time being, but he also didn’t want to keep bothering Lance.
After booking the hotel, he messaged Zhou Zihua, suggesting they grab a meal together later.
Then Lu Feiran returned to Lance’s house with the bird-themed cultural and creative pendant he got from the Qiong Zhu Gallery.
As soon as he opened the door and saw the completely different interior décor, Lu Feiran took a step back, thinking he had gone to the wrong place.
“Did something happen at home?” Lu Feiran asked blankly.
Lance pulled him in, closed the door, and said, “I wanted a change of mood, so I changed the décor. Do you like this style?”
Norn, hiding in the dark, felt his scalp tingle. Is Lance sick? Why is he speaking in such an unnaturally gentle tone?
Who is that person!
Norn shifted his angle and peeked carefully. The person who came in was tall and slender but still half a head shorter than Lance. They had soft, dark, shiny hair and delicate features that combined to form an eye-catching, beautiful face. Especially the eyes—they were watery and overly captivating.
Norn watched with wide eyes as Lance smiled, took a small, cut piece of lemon tart, and fed it into the person’s mouth.
Lance feeds people? Is he going to poison him?
Lu Feiran took off his shoes and walked straight in, his feet stepping directly onto the newly replaced handmade carpet in the living room, then walking to the terrace.
Previously, the DeWitt house had no trace of habitation, feeling cold everywhere, but now even the curtains had been replaced with cashmere.
Lu Feiran loved the style of the soft furnishings and circled the room several times, lingering particularly by the terrace.
“It looks great!”
“I’m glad you like it.” Lance continued to smile, not forgetting to feed Lu Feiran.
Lu Feiran obediently ate it. He was a bit hungry and needed something to tide him over.
Returning to the dining table, Lu Feiran took off his bag and placed the three small bird pendants on the table: “You choose first.”
Lance glanced over, his expression unchanged, clearly uninterested in any of them.
Lu Feiran, however, touched the fluffy belly of each little bird, liking every one of them. He didn’t notice Lance’s expression and urged: “Pick one? What color do you like?”
Lance thought for a moment, unable to think of a color he liked. Seeing Lu Feiran wearing a dark green silk shirt today, he said, “Green.”
Lu Feiran placed the green one in Lance’s hand: “Green is beautiful, I like green too! It’s also very similar to your eyes.”
“Thank you, Ranran,” Lance said softly, glancing at the logo on the parrot’s tail—Qiong Zhu Gallery. Heh.
“I’ll take the white one then,” Lu Feiran said, putting the two remaining ones away.
Lance’s gaze followed them into Lu Feiran’s bag. Two. Who is the third one for?
“Oh, right, I came over to tell you,” Lu Feiran looked seriously at Lance, “Thank you for taking me in yesterday, but I shouldn’t keep bothering you, so I’m going to stay in a hotel today.”
Lance’s smile vanished: “You’re leaving?”
“Mm…” Lu Feiran’s eyes drifted, catching sight of a pair of basketball shoes by the entrance.
Does he have another friend over?
Lu Feiran almost couldn’t stop himself from looking around the room. Who is that person? Where are they hiding? Could they be in the bedroom?
Lance couldn’t understand why Lu Feiran wanted to leave. Everything was fine yesterday, and everything was fine just now.
Lance couldn’t grasp Lu Feiran’s consideration of wanting to stay in a hotel temporarily so as not to overly bother him. In his view, Lu Feiran’s departure was an unpredictable bug that suddenly appeared in his plan.
The presence of another friend, combined with Lance not calling them out, led Lu Feiran to the conclusion that he was intruding.
Although feeling a little disappointed, Lu Feiran immediately turned to put on his shoes.
He had planned to thank Lance properly and clearly explain that he would be staying in a hotel, but the sudden interlude made Lu Feiran feel like he was fleeing in haste.
It’s better to leave quickly.
Lu Feiran’s decisive turn and immediate departure ignited a spark in Lance’s heart.
Where is he going? Back to Zhai Qiance to ‘live his own life’?
Lance’s voice turned cold: “Only when you need me, do you remember me, Ranran?”
The icy interrogation completely shattered the gentle demeanor Lance had perfectly cultivated. He knew he was being affected by Norn’s abrupt intrusion, and his annoyance with all external factors had reached its peak.
He had already accommodated Lu Feiran in every way. What more did he want?
But Lance quickly softened: “I was waiting for you for dinner.”
His voice became low, with a hint of grievance in his tone.
Norn covered his ears immediately. Is this something I should be hearing?
Lu Feiran’s hand on the doorknob relaxed. For some reason, he felt that going to a hotel alone was wrong, and he wanted to break his reservation and stay.
But… Lu Feiran glanced at the basketball shoes again, but there’s someone else here! Otherwise, why would there be an extra pair of shoes?
“I made plans with Zhou Zihua, a friend I grew up with,” Lu Feiran explained, though he didn’t know why he felt the need to explain.
“It’s ‘Little Hua’ again.” Lance smiled, inexplicably feeling a thread of jealousy towards Lu Feiran’s friend.
“I have to go now,” Lu Feiran said.
The door was opened slightly. Lu Feiran didn’t look back the entire time. He was a little afraid to see Lance’s expression. He didn’t want to be resented.
“Go ahead, don’t call me again,” Lance pressed his temple.
Lu Feiran’s eyes widened. What does that mean? Breaking up with me? Wasn’t everything fine yesterday?
The Lance in Lu Feiran’s eyes had always been emotionally stable, gentle, and considerate. He had never imagined Lance speaking to him in such a cold voice.
The unspoken grievances swelled, bursting out sour juice.
“I don’t only remember you when I need you, I…”
“Do you think of me at other times too?”
Lance’s question was difficult to answer.
Lu Feiran did indeed think of Lance at other times, but… saying it out loud felt strange. Lu Feiran decided to invoke the right to remain silent.
“Ranran, I hope what I give you isn’t too much more than what you give me,” Lance said, leaving no room for sentiment.
“I have plans with my friend, I’ll be late if I don’t go now.” Lu Feiran pushed the door open, took a deep breath, and turned his head to glare at Lance, “But I will call you. Just wait for my call, anytime!”
Hearing the door close, Norn emerged from the bathroom, his confusion deepening.
Who exactly was that person? They could receive this level of attention and care from Lance, and even get away with throwing a tantrum at him.
The most terrifying thing was that Lance seemed… a little happy?
Norn knew from childhood that whenever Lance’s face showed that kind of expression, he would soon get exactly what he wanted most.
Even if the process wasn’t pretty, even if everyone else suffered, Lance himself would be satisfied.
That person has been targeted by Lance…
What does he want to do? Norn couldn’t guess; no one truly understood Lance.
The situation was too bizarre. If he could, Norn would drill into the ground and leave immediately.
But thankfully, there was a turn of events for his own situation.
“You continue chatting with Zhai Qiance, and everything will be over soon,” Lance told Norn, then pointed at the door, telling Norn to leave immediately.
Lance looked at the uneaten lemon tart, his eyes dark and unreadable. He watched Norn put on his shoes and leave without saying another word.
He held the parrot pendant Lu Feiran left behind, squeezing the fluffy toy tightly in his palm into a small ball. When released, it became soft and cute again.
Although it was a gift from Lu Feiran, Lance developed a feeling of disgust for it because it wasn’t unique.
Lance wanted to throw it into the trash, but he resisted and casually placed it in an rarely used drawer.
A stray cat is a wild cat. It is very difficult to coax a cat to willingly follow you home just with cat treats.
Lu Feiran should have known long ago that he wasn’t someone who would tolerate everything blindly. But wouldn’t it be even better if Lu Feiran still lingered around him, dependent, even after seeing this side of him?
…
Lu Feiran seriously considered the reason for Lance’s anger and deeply felt that he was in the wrong; he shouldn’t have just notified him and left.
He was the one throwing a tantrum, deliberately creating distance. Seeing the unfamiliar shoes, he should have asked directly instead of escaping.
But… no friends can avoid arguments.
Thinking this, Lu Feiran’s strained nerves relaxed.
“Lu Feiran! You’re distracted!” Zhou Zihua shouted.
“Oh, sorry…” Lu Feiran snapped back to attention, stirring the hot porridge in front of him.
Lu Feiran and Zhou Zihua met in the hotel lobby, and they instantly agreed to go out for barbecue. But considering Lu Feiran’s sensitive stomach, Zhou Zihua thoughtfully ordered a small portion of porridge separately to warm his stomach.
Zhou Zihua was angry. He felt that Lu Feiran’s frequency of contacting him had decreased recently. Even when they were face-to-face, Lu Feiran wasn’t enthusiastically chatting but was frequently lost in thought.
“Something’s not right. I feel like a third party has appeared in our relationship!” Zhou Zihua declared.
“No, you shouldn’t talk nonsense!”
Lu Feiran didn’t like hearing the word “third party.” Moreover, he did feel guilty. He had neglected Zhou Zihua for a newly made friend, and he was even thinking about someone else just now.
Lu Feiran laid out his cards: “I wanted to talk to you because I filed for divorce from Zhai Qiance.”
“Ah?” Zhou Zihua was extremely surprised. “Aren’t you going to do the whole silent revenge thing?”
Lu Feiran mixed the sizzling, oily lamb skewers into the porridge and finished the bowl in a few mouthfuls. The bowl was heavily placed on the table. Lu Feiran’s voice was still very light, but his eyes, looking at Zhou Zihua, were immensely firm.
“I’ve tolerated him long enough.”
Lu Feiran told Zhou Zihua in detail what happened yesterday.
Hearing that Lu Xingli was acting like Zhai Qiance’s dog, and would only get a chance to “ascend” by waiting for the scumbag’s third marriage with a “love ticket,” plus Lu Feiran’s subtle jab that Zhai Qiance was secretly in love with Lu Liye, Zhou Zihua laughed so hard he almost rolled onto the floor.
“Pfft! Hahahahaha… How could you say that? One sentence and you disgusted four people directly! Hahahahaha! Your dad should hear that; his face would turn green, hahahaha!”
Zhou Zihua kept shouting, drawing frequent side-eyes from people around the barbecue stall. A young person, sitting there, looks like an idiot?
“Oh, right, this is for you.” Lu Feiran took out the cultural pendant Jin Zhan gave him, intending to clip it onto Zhou Zihua’s belt, worried he might forget later.
Zhou Zihua picked up the little bird, saw the Qiong Zhu Gallery logo, and asked, “I wasn’t there that day. My old man dragged me out to play golf. Did you go by yourself later?”
Lu Feiran nodded: “Yeah, I chatted with Jin Zhan. He’s a good person.”
Zhou Zihua waved his hand: “Don’t talk about Jin Zhan yet. Your husband is really about to get an Alpha fiancé. I heard it when I was playing golf with those old men. Madam DeWitt is already preparing for the wedding!”
The skewer in Lu Feiran’s hand slipped and fell to the ground.
He stared blankly at the meat on the ground, rubbing his sore eyes: “A wedding?”
