Famous Actresses, Please Keep Your Distance From Me - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Since Duan Rujin had asked so directly, Cen Zhigh felt there was no harm in following along with her answer.
Besides, even if she didn’t want to admit it to herself, that was indeed a part of it.
Ultimately, the main reason she decided to reveal she was in Liucheng was that she couldn’t ignore the fact that they were now friends. If Duan Rujin was truly too busy to meet, it wouldn’t have mattered. Most importantly, Duan Rujin had the right to know she was in town; otherwise, what was the point of that sincere and formal declaration of friendship? Was it just a waste of time?
However, Cen Zhi hadn’t expected Duan Rujin to come straight to her hotel and suggest a nap together.
“Then I really didn’t miss this wonderful moment. I should have recorded it, though.” Duan Rujin tilted her chin, looking genuinely a bit regretful.
Cen Zhi chuckled. “Would you like some water?”
“Sure.” Duan Rujin sat down on the sofa. “But your question is so formal.”
“How should I have asked then?” Cen Zhi was pouring the water, her head slightly lowered, but she could see Duan Rujin out of the corner of her eye.
“Just…” Duan Rujin watched Cen Zhi’s profile. “Mainly, you didn’t use a name.”
“Alright.” Cen Zhi leaned down and placed the glass on the coffee table. “Have some water, Miss Duan.”
“That’s even more formal.”
Cen Zhi looked innocent. “I used a title this time.” She paused. “And you called me ‘Miss Cen’ first.”
“…” Duan Rujin changed the subject. “When are you going back?”
“Tomorrow as well.”
“What a coincidence.”
Cen Zhi glanced at her. “I have to accompany you for your shot.”
Duan Rujin laughed again. “Right, you have to be with me for the fourth one too.” She asked, “Then do you want to head back with me tomorrow? we came by car; we can drop you off right at your apartment gate.”
“I’ll think about it.”
Duan Rujin drank some water and stood up. “Fine, give me an answer tonight.” She walked toward the large bed, which didn’t even have a wrinkle on it yet. She flopped onto it face-first, her voice muffled. “But did you come this time because of that shop you mentioned before?”
“Yes.”
Cen Zhi didn’t go over. She turned her head and watched Duan Rujin, a slight smile touching her lips. “They invited me for some on-site guidance—things like design concepts for the renovation and workflow procedures.”
Duan Rujin tilted her head. “But can’t they just look that stuff up online?”
“Yes, but…” Cen Zhi’s lashes fluttered. “The owner is an old friend, so meeting up isn’t a big deal.”
“So you aren’t charging for this trip?”
“No, they covered travel and lodging.”
Duan Rujin looked at her intently. “I think your shop’s design is very warm. The office is a bit small, but it was quite comfortable to sleep in.” She patted the spot beside her. “Aren’t you going to nap, Cen Zhi?”
Cen Zhi felt a sense of cognitive dissonance. She really wanted to crack open Duan Rujin’s head to see if she had truly forgotten that night entirely. They had only shared a bed once before.
Cen Zhi’s eyelashes trembled; her heartbeat was erratic, yet Duan Rujin’s gaze was so sincere. It was so sincere that it felt as if that night had never happened, making Cen Zhi wonder if Duan Rujin had selective amnesia, or if the person in front of her wasn’t Duan Rujin at all.
Harboring all sorts of strange, erratic thoughts, Cen Zhi walked to the edge of the bed and stood still. In the meantime, Duan Rujin had shifted over and pulled the duvet over herself.
It was a bizarre scene; Cen Zhi felt lost. She eventually lifted the covers and lay down too, though there was a gap between them wide enough for the Pacific Ocean. This helped dissipate her tension and guilt slightly.
This time, Duan Rujin didn’t make another move. She placed her hands over her stomach, her lashes covering her eyes. She whispered “Good afternoon” and seemingly fell fast asleep.
Cen Zhi relaxed and closed her eyes. She had woken up early and exerted a lot of mental energy this morning. She was tired, and before long, her breathing evened out as she drifted off.
What she didn’t know was that after she fell asleep, Duan Rujin opened her eyes again and gently turned her head to look at her.
The excuse of a “nap” was indeed very natural. Didn’t it get them into the same bed? Her gaze swept over Cen Zhi’s lips before she slowly withdrew her eyes.
She missed her dearly, but for now, she could only think about it.
Overcast, rainy days are perfect for naps. Cen Zhi had an appointment with Sun Shuyi at 3:00 PM, and Duan Rujin had her own schedule. They both woke up around the same time, near 2:30 PM.
However, when Cen Zhi first opened her eyes, she realized the distance between her and Duan Rujin had narrowed significantly—and it was she who had drifted toward the other side.
Just as she was about to move away, Duan Rujin woke up. She looked dazed for a moment before breaking into a brilliant smile. “Good afternoon, Cen Zhi.”
“Good afternoon.”
Cen Zhi controlled her breathing and gently lifted the duvet. But before she could get up, Duan Rujin caught her wrist again. “Why didn’t you smile back at me? That’s not fair.”
