Falling After Marriage - Chapter 44
Chapter 44: You Want Me, Don’t You?
The midnight after the thunder and lightning was quiet, as if the wind and rain that had disrupted the city had never occurred.
The glass-prison-like house was brightly lit, standing out in the dark night, insisting on radiating a faint glow.
The two people sitting on the sofa mirrored the stillness of the scene, stubbornly silent.
Cheng Sangluo waited for Lin Jin to provide an answer. Even though she knew countless inquiries would only lead the madwoman to play tai chi and push the topic away, she still held a deep anticipation.
Lin Jin seemed to be cultivating the mood for the conversation, so she simply shifted into a more comfortable position.
Leaning against the armrest of the sofa, she draped her fair, slender legs over the puppy’s knees, using her toes to brush against the clearly defined jawline.
This scene was no different from the night of the pool party. The ingrained frivolousness and provocation of the madwoman seemed impossible to erase.
Cheng Sangluo subconsciously leaned back, trying to dodge the familiar harassment, sighing: “Do you have some kind of fixation on hooking my face with your foot? Must you use this method to humiliate people?”
“Humiliation? It’s clearly because I like it so much that I do this.” Lin Jin raised an eyebrow, offering a twisted rationale, “When I become curious about something, I want to probe it. And probing you with my toes is the most interesting way—it never fails~”
Cheng Sangluo retorted: “Tsk, boring.”
With that, she clamped the busy foot under the ‘tiger’s mouth’ of her hand, but unlike before, she didn’t secretly apply pressure. Instead, she quietly tucked it into her lap, because the tender, pale, smooth foot was surprisingly cold, as if it had stepped across an entire frozen snowfield.
Lin Jin half-closed her eyes, enjoying the moment. The temperature on his chest was just right, and the sensation was incredibly delicate; the comfort traveled from her toes to her heart, wave after wave.
This feeling was addictive.
After a moment of quiet, she finally returned to the main subject.
“There are too many things you want to know, but what status should you use to learn those unknown things? Is it the status of someone who can’t pay their debt, or the status of an enemy, or perhaps… the status of someone who has slept with me a few times?”
Lin Jin tilted her head and asked with a smile. The words were unpleasant, but true. What qualification did a person without status have to delve into her secrets?
“That’s not a reason for you to insist on marrying me.” Cheng Sangluo’s mouth was still as stubborn as ever. No matter how much she wanted to know Lin Jin’s motivation, she wouldn’t waver on the issue of marriage.
“Can’t you tell? The reason I never answer your questions is that I want to keep you hooked, until you willingly accept me.” Lin Jin spoke her mind frankly, keeping the unknown answers dangling, completely drawing Cheng Sangluo in, “I believe that day won’t be too far away.”
That’s the effect she wanted. A puppy can’t resist temptation, so it will naturally take the bait step by step and approach her.
“Forget it. I won’t ask anymore. Whatever you want.” Cheng Sangluo shrugged indifferently, preparing to get up to check if her clothes were dry, but the foot in front of her pushed him back.
“Wait.”
“What do you want now?”
“Seeing as you were kind enough to come and keep me company tonight, I should give you a reward. Think carefully and choose the one question you most want to know, and I will answer truthfully.” Lin Jin was reluctant for Cheng Sangluo to leave, so she threw out an extremely tempting hook to keep the person who could leave her at any moment.
Cheng Sangluo sat sideways, looking suspiciously at the woman with the cunning smile. She was clearly deep in thought, as she remained silent for a long time.
Lin Jin didn’t rush him, leaning softly into the sofa, using her eyes to kiss the focused face, her smile growing more indulgent.
“Hmm…” Cheng Sangluo pondered for a moment, frantically searching through all her curiosities.
The madwoman in her eyes did indeed hold too many unsolved mysteries. Even though she had the detailed information provided by Wei Yun, the information about Lin Jin was only two thin pages, mostly about Senyao Group, with only a few words about her personal life.
“Hmm…” Lin Jin mimicked the puppy’s long humming sound from his nose, intentionally teasing: “What shall we do? There are so many things you want to know~”
“Tsk.” Cheng Sangluo clicked her tongue, giving the woman a side-eye for enjoying the drama.
In that brief moment, countless questions had already surfaced in her mind.
For example, why Lin Jin was afraid of thunder, what mental illness she had, why her relationship with Shu Wan was so terrible, whether she truly intended to use her, or why she abandoned the Lin family’s business to start her own…
There were too many curious questions to ask, until a chilling image flashed in her mind, blocking and overshadowing all those numerous questions.
Cheng Sangluo cleared her throat twice, muttering: “How did you get the scars on your back?”
This question was unexpected by Lin Jin.
She had hoped Cheng Sangluo would ask if they had known each other before, which would allow her to unfold a story about a certain day many years ago.
However, this sudden question shattered all her preconceived notions.
Lin Jin gathered her long hair over her shoulder. Her reclining posture gained a touch of seduction, to conceal the physical defect.
She should feel happy. Among all the distracting questions, this one was full of concern and tenderness, feeling like a delightful surprise.
It turned out the puppy had such a good memory, so good that she couldn’t remember the beautiful scenery on the yacht, but instead remembered the most ugly detail.
“Acid was thrown on it.” Lin Jin’s answer was simple, yet devoid of any deception.
Her tone was light and breezy, and her expression was calm, as if the searing pain was something she had experienced in a past life.
In reality, over the years, the crumpled flesh scars would occasionally ache, hurt from rubbing against clothes, hurt from receiving strange looks from others, and constantly remind her that everything had truly happened.
Those few lonely words cast a pall of heaviness over the previously peaceful atmosphere.
Cheng Sangluo’s brow furrowed unconsciously. His sharp eyes scrutinized the deep, calm lake of her gaze.
He tried to find a hint of a lie, but after a long gaze, he found nothing. Only then did he ask in surprise: “Why did that happen?”
“I only promised to answer one question. Asking another is going over the limit~” Lin Jin twirled a strand of hair, playing with it. Indeed, she was a master at baiting the puppy, pulling off a wonderful game of rules.
“You!” Cheng Sangluo was too angry for words. He fiercely pushed away the feet blocking him, “What’s the point of asking? Isn’t that disgusting?”
Lin Jin didn’t want the topic to linger on that terrifying day, so she leaned over and hugged Cheng Sangluo, sweetly complaining in a soft voice: “Puppy, I’m so hungry. The noodles are soggy. Can you bear to let me starve?”
This scheming woman even deliberately pulled her smooth silk robe slightly open, intentionally exposing the unsightly old scar on her back, hoping that the soft-hearted god would waver a little for her.
Cheng Sangluo did see the wrinkled flesh mark clearly. His tightly closed lips pressed together again. That palpable pain was contagious, making him feel discomfort too.
He reached out to pull Lin Jin’s clothes back into place, scolding in a low voice: “Whose fault is it that the noodles are soggy?”
“Yours for making me angry~”
“Yours for having a loose tongue.”
Bickering was a good sign. The two prickly people who had a spat were back on good terms.
Lin Jin turned into a soft, boneless snake, coiling around the tall frame until she reached his neck, calling out lazily: “Not eating noodles is fine. Your punishment is to stay and accompany me, or there will be no peace tonight.”
“You were the one who told me to get lost, and you are the one who tells me to stay. You are too contradictory.” Cheng Sangluo was still dwelling on that one word, his tone full of unending complaint, “I’m not playing along.”
“It’s not just me who’s contradictory. The puppy is contradictory too. The puppy stayed outside the door and didn’t leave. The puppy must be reluctant to abandon me to endure the long night alone~”
The puppy bristled: “Stop calling me puppy. Isn’t it annoying?”
“Cheng Sangluo… hold me… okay…” Lin Jin wiped away her indulgent smile, her invitation looking very serious.
A night like this was truly tormenting for her. She desperately needed a moment of passion to wash away the fear brought by those dark memories.
The stubborn and thick-headed person remained composed despite having her in his arms, yet he was inherently soft-hearted.
The madwoman seemed to have become his weakness. A slight whisper in his ear, and his heart softened along with it.
Cheng Sangluo put one arm around the slender waist. With a gentle pull, the smooth snake collapsed into his embrace.
He couldn’t respond with soft words, only relying on their mutual gaze to ease the turmoil in his heart, refusing to admit he was seduced by the madwoman, yet following the honesty of his body.
“You want this, don’t you?” Lin Jin’s eyes were tender. Her fingers traced Cheng Sangluo’s eyebrows, guiding his gaze down to his lips, “No matter what you do, you must have ambition to achieve results beyond imagination. Making love is the same.”
“Nonsense.” Cheng Sangluo scoffed, but seemed to agree with the meaning in his heart, because he had already lowered his head and initiated a probing kiss.
The kiss landed in Lin Jin’s neck hollow, accompanied by the alluring scent in her breath, which had a natural aphrodisiac effect.
Lin Jin wrapped her legs around the firm waist, arching her body and hanging semi-suspended in the air, letting out a ticklish laugh: “I really want to put a collar on you and walk you around the room. What should I do, puppy~”
“Pervert.” Cheng Sangluo cursed in a low voice, then forcefully bit her, “Behave.”
“Hiss—” Lin Jin hissed in pain, but quickly groaned in pleasure: “It hurts so much, but the pain feels so good. The more you bite, the better I feel~”
This woman was truly infuriating!
Cheng Sangluo cursed internally, yet his kiss was so earnest, a kiss that stirred his ambition.
“Does it feel good?” He asked sullenly, easily lifting the madwoman coiled around him to her feet, turning and throwing her forcefully onto the sofa.
“Of course~” Lin Jin’s eyes were flushed with desire, making the smile on her lips even more lively.
She instinctively pulled at Cheng Sangluo’s bathrobe, throwing open the lapels to admire the beautiful muscle lines, letting out a sound of satisfied admiration between her teeth.
Cheng Sangluo pressed one knee against the edge of the sofa, trapping the madwoman in the small corner.
He gripped Lin Jin’s chin, his eyes turning dark and unreadable, “Lin Jin, do you know? I’m so angry right now. Angry at myself for worrying about you, angry at my own shamelessness, staying here even after being told to get lost, and even angrier that you bullied me so, so much…”
Cheng Sangluo’s voice abruptly stopped. His fingers, which were gripping her chin, slid down inch by inch until they held Lin Jin’s slightly curved swan neck.
He bent down. It wasn’t a consensual kiss; it was a forceful bite, biting the back of the hand resting on her neck.
How much self-reproach must he endure to display such tenderness, to always think about not hurting the person who had hurt him?
Cheng Sangluo bit the back of his own hand until a trace of blood oozed from the teeth marks, only then letting go sadly.
He pressed his forehead against Lin Jin’s, anguished: “You bullied me so, so much, yet I’m thinking of having a night of pleasure with you. What do you think of me? Am I the lowest… but Cheng Sangluo…”
