Falling After Marriage - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: Love is Not Made This Way
Tanned and porcelain-white skin entwined amidst the swirling water vapor, like two complicatedly branched flowers, expressing an endless ambiguity and frenzy.
The luxurious marble vanity was clearly spacious, sprawling wide, as broad as the mirror and the wall itself.
But for the two people engaged in intimate acts, it felt too small, too small for Lin Jin, who was slumped on it and couldn’t fully maneuver.
Cheng Sangluo’s palm was broad and strong, clamping Lin Jin’s wrists, forcing them firmly against the mirror, completely stripping away her ability to move.
This posture was aggressive, carrying an inexplicable sense of control.
She bent down to kiss, leaving scattered marks on the creamy, jade-white skin, perfectly echoing the teeth marks all over her own body.
At the peak of the intensity, Lin Jin let out a series of husky sighs of pleasure, mixed with a few clear laughs that swept through and stirred the heart’s itch.
She savored the taste of satisfaction, secretly marveling at the lethal skill of the person’s fingers.
Especially the gritty texture of her fingertips, which carried a rough savagery.
The only thing that dissatisfied her was Cheng Sangluo’s inexperienced kiss. No matter, she could teach her slowly later.
Lin Jin tilted her head to observe the puppy.
That person, unable to extricate herself, was spewing nonsense.
Cursing how tightly her fingertips were being held.
These words made Lin Jin’s laughter ripple even wider. That smile was aimed at the so-called clearly marked price of tonight.
“Cheng Sangluo…”
“Mhm?”
During a moment of rest, Lin Jin leaned against her softly, her breathing slightly rapid: “Admit it… you’re addicted to more than just my body…”
Cheng Sangluo returned to her indifferent and taciturn state, her tone slightly cold: “Hmph, rambling nonsense, meaningless.”
“You are so contradictory. You hate me so much your teeth ache, but why do you want me so urgently every time?” Lin Jin mocked, asking in return, adopting a look of insatiability and teasing: “After all, even primary school students need to drag their feet when doing homework~”
“……” Cheng Sangluo had no answer for the jest, feeling only that Lin Jin had pulled off her covering of shame. She scooped up the waist that was swaying and blossoming and sat up straight, “It seems you’re not tired enough.”
“Oh~” Lin Jin let out a perfectly timed gasp of astonishment, reached out and tapped the puppy’s nose, laughing even more joyfully: “Hahaha… you, you can’t argue with me, and you can’t fight with me~”
“Are you provoking me?” Cheng Sangluo suddenly picked her up horizontally, plunging out of the bathroom with her head down, looking like she was going to change locations to continue the torment.
Lin Jin wrapped her arms around her, not asking where they were going, tilting her head to admire the flushed face, then suddenly said seriously: “Promise me one thing.”
Cheng Sangluo was terse: “Say it.”
“I dislike you having contact with other women, but I wouldn’t do anything completely outrageous. Only Shu Wan is different, she is a no-go area.” Lin Jin didn’t specify what the “outrageous thing” was, but added more demands to her statement.
“This is not going to pass, is it?” Cheng Sangluo hissed, and thinking how much the madwoman cared, she intentionally provoked her: “Miss Shu treats me more gently than you do, and the choices she offers are based on respect. While you were repeatedly ruining my job, she was concerned about whether I’d get sunburned while looking for work. This is what’s called no comparison, no harm.”
During the eloquent confession, the smile on Lin Jin’s lips gradually faded until it was completely extinguished.
She knew everything Cheng Sangluo said was reasonable and impossible to refute, but she still felt the words were extremely grating.
What made her even more distressed was Cheng Sangluo’s attitude; her manner and tone when discussing Shu Wan were more than just reserved.
Fortunately, Lin Jin had taken her medicine and could control her emotions from erupting. She spoke instead in a deep voice, lecturing: “I can only say you served those years in prison in vain. You are naive and can’t judge people accurately.”
Cheng Sangluo mulled over the meaning of the words, but disliked the mention of her time in prison, so she responded with a cold face: “Whether she is a good person or a bad person, I have my own way of evaluating, and I won’t just listen to your side of the story.”
Lin Jin’s heart was hurting, but she forced herself to remain calm, reaching out and tapping Cheng Sangluo’s face insultingly, “The way you defend her is truly amusing.”
This conversation completely ruined her mood, so she simply commanded: “Put me down, you’re a killjoy.”
Cheng Sangluo did not obey her command. As for why, it was most likely because she hadn’t had enough, or perhaps she hadn’t satisfied her craving.
“Put me down!” Lin Jin struggled, but it was futile.
In many matters, she could crush Cheng Sangluo with ease, but strength was her weakness, her absolute vulnerability.
“No.” Cheng Sangluo refused in a muffled voice, even holding her tighter, as if the madwoman might slip away if she wasn’t careful.
In the huge house, their intertwined shadows could fall anywhere, but this person chose a place Lin Jin could never have imagined.
Lin Jin bit wildly at the puppy’s neck, throwing an endless tantrum, “I don’t want it now, I hate you!”
Cheng Sangluo actually took the initiative to enter the room full of mirrors, and this time she even turned on the light.
Those mirrors clearly reflected the pushing and pulling of the two.
Cheng Sangluo resented it deeply, but she still stubbornly tossed Lin Jin heavily onto the bed.
She bent over, grabbed the back of the tensed neck, and warned in a deep voice: “You like to watch, don’t you? Look closely, and try not to blink.”
Lin Jin was momentarily stunned, feeling as if this scoundrel had changed into a different person, and teased: “I didn’t drug you today, did I? Are you completely reformed?”
Cheng Sangluo didn’t answer the boring question, but seemed to be apologizing for the conversation they just had.
This apology came inexplicably; she felt she hadn’t said anything wrong, yet she also felt she was wrong, wrong for discussing another woman while making love with Lin Jin.
Having experienced so much injustice, the only thing Cheng Sangluo had learned was not to trust anyone easily. Her connection with Shu Wan was only three brief meetings, and her goodwill was merely based on the gentleness of her expressed behavior.
However, she had to anger Lin Jin to retaliate against the madwoman for doing everything without considering anyone else’s feelings.
Most of the time, Lin Jin couldn’t decipher Cheng Sangluo’s thoughts, but at this moment, she sensed that subtle apology.
Because the person’s first kiss didn’t habitually land by her ear, but at the corner of her eye, kissing away that hint of angry redness, as if to kiss away the thin layer of crystal in her eyes.
Lin Jin crossed her hands over Cheng Sangluo’s shoulders, adopting a generous, pardoning posture, “Alright, I forgive you.”
Cheng Sangluo’s back tensed for an instant, confused as to how the madwoman had seen through her thoughts, but she replied stubbornly: “Meaningless.”
Just as the puppy was about to seek more, Lin Jin intentionally pushed her hand away and pressed: “If Shu Wan and I fell into the water, who would you save?”
What outdated, crucial life-or-death question?!
Cheng Sangluo raised her voice incredulously: “Aren’t you childish?”
At a time like this, she was still hung up on Shu Wan!
“If you don’t answer me, no more fun then.” Lin Jin was insistent, rolling over, preparing to escape Cheng Sangluo’s embrace.
“I wouldn’t save either of you. If there were more choices, I’d hope to be the one to push you into the water.” Cheng Sangluo’s words were extremely vicious, but the movement of her hands easily betrayed the panic hidden deep in her heart.
Seeing the foolish madwoman about to escape, she reached out and grabbed the slender, white ankle, pulling her back forcefully, while bracing one hand beside Lin Jin’s ear, warning in a deep voice: “You want to come when you want, and leave when you want. What do you take me for, a dog that is summoned and dismissed at will?”
“Aren’t you?” Lin Jin countered with a wrinkled nose, once again disguising her profound care as mockery: “No, no, no, you’re worse than a dog. At least a dog recognizes its owner. And you? You rush to whoever treats you slightly better.”
Cheng Sangluo was not provoked by this statement. She pressed her lips directly to the madwoman’s ear and whispered, “Instead of worrying about me being with Shu Wan, why don’t you think about why I hate you so much.”
“You’re stupid, so you can’t detect how uncontrollably drawn you are to me.” Lin Jin turned her head, grazing her nose against the other’s lips. “You had so many chances to push me out of your world, like running away, or avoiding me, but you didn’t. Even though you were very angry today, you still chose to bring me home, chose to hold me and want me, just like this.”
Cheng Sangluo ignored her, focusing only on taking what she wanted.
She was like a visitor admiring a flower, snapping the most vibrant bloom from the branch when passion peaked.
Or like a tireless hummingbird, extracting the sweetest nectar.
Despite being so oblivious and expending so much effort, she couldn’t fill the void stored in her soul.
She was anxious, yet unaware of why, thus becoming an unconscious machine.
Like mechanically completing a task.
Lin Jin’s voice was hoarse as she suddenly called out: “Cheng Sangluo!”
Her straightened toes, adorned with the room’s bright light, and the muscle lines on her calves became increasingly clear.
She braced her neck.
Straining to push against the soft pillow.
The mirror on the ceiling reflected a scene of extravagant beauty, every glimpse real enough, yet every glimpse was an immense helplessness.
She couldn’t obtain it; she could never obtain the heart that was a thousand miles away from her.
Cheng Sangluo’s embrace was fiery, and her arms carried a sense of security.
She scooped up Lin Jin, just as one scoops up the moon reflected in water—effortlessly, yet containing careful caution.
In the thick, ambiguous atmosphere, she felt she ought to treat her gently, but her tone was harsh: “Did you think it would just end like this?”
Lin Jin’s breathing was rapid. She rolled over and buried her face in the pillow, “No… I’m so tired…”
This was the first time she had shown a sign of vulnerability.
Cheng Sangluo showed no intention of letting her go, retaliating by mimicking the madwoman’s tone from before: “Beg me.”
“Heh, beg you?” Lin Jin curled up into a ball, refusing to comply with the scoundrel’s wish, “I’ve never begged anyone in this life.”
“Is that so?” Cheng Sangluo exposed her without rushing: “Who was the one who drugged herself that night and then bitterly begged me afterward?”
Lin Jin pouted, comfortably closing her eyes, murmuring: “Cheng Sangluo, love is not made this way.”
“Then how do you think it should be made?” Cheng Sangluo didn’t understand. She had given everything, so why was this madwoman still dissatisfied?
“Love without a heart, no matter how it’s done, is nothing more than animals in heat mating.” Lin Jin’s fingertip traced the sharp, expressive eyes, speaking earnestly and very logically.
Cheng Sangluo fell silent. These words sounded unpleasant, but in the depths of her mind, she felt they held great truth.
She didn’t love Lin Jin, yet she repeatedly craved Lin Jin.
How could she, driven by instinct, not be considered an animal in heat?
“In your eyes, I’ve always been a beast, haven’t I?” Cheng Sangluo’s self-mockery appeared fragile. As she sat up, she draped the blanket over Lin Jin, concealing the room’s beautiful sight.
Lin Jin realized she had said something hurtful, and quickly stretched out her foot to stop the person who was preparing to leave, “You will be a person someday, and a person above others, but the path is winding. You’ll have to step on many people’s heads to climb up, including mine.”
The next morning.
Lin Jin did not sleep well that night.
One strange dream followed another, every scene revolving around Cheng Sangluo: crying loudly, roaring, completely distraught.
The puppy in the dream was unhappy.
Lin Jin supported her aching lower back and slowly sat up, enduring the pain while searching for Cheng Sangluo.
But she was the only one in the soft, large bed. The other side of the blanket was empty, chilled by the cold air conditioning.
She didn’t know when Cheng Sangluo had left, but the embrace during her sleep had been full, so she figured that person had quietly abandoned her around daybreak.
Having experienced a night of pleasure, suddenly being alone in the empty room made Lin Jin feel intensely uncomfortable.
She sadly brushed her messy hair aside. A trace of sadness welled up on her pale face, saddened that that person was always so stone-hearted.
Last night was too exhausting, wrapped in gloomy dreams. Lin Jin simply fell back onto the insufficiently warm bed.
She hugged the pillow that belonged to Cheng Sangluo, and before the scent could dissipate, she covered her nose and obsessively smelled and kissed it.
This fiercely proud woman never showed her loneliness in front of Cheng Sangluo, forced only to digest last night’s joy alone, forced to face the solitude of the room alone.
Her arm was grazed by something. Curious, she groped around until she pulled out a thick brown envelope from the messy blanket.
Cheng Sangluo had left a message on the envelope: Repayment 10,000, debt remaining 2,990,000. The extra 1,000 is the price for last night.
Lin Jin stared at the embarrassing words, a cold and gloomy smile twisting her lips. The repressed fury turned into the gradually bulging veins on her forehead.
One thousand?
Lin Boss, who was arrogant and high above all, was only worth one thousand?
Lin Jin finally felt a sense of humiliation. The feeling was full of irony and made her teeth ache with anger.
Lin Jin didn’t know that the stubborn person was so poor she couldn’t afford food; that one thousand was everything she could take out.
That one thousand was also the price she bought back a piece of her dignity for.
“Incredible, Cheng Sangluo. You’ve started to learn how to humiliate people?” Lin Jin laughed in anger, scattering the money from the envelope all over the room.
In the spacious bedroom, her exasperated laughter suddenly rang out.
The laughter grew deeper and deeper, until it finally turned into a low, gnashing-of-teeth whisper: “You insist on seeking trouble. Don’t blame me…”
