- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 83 - Trying to Steal My Boyfriend
Bai Hansui paused, seemingly surprised that Shen Lai would agree so readily. She had assumed Shen Lai was worried about being criticized for getting involved with Huo Chilin. The corners of her lips curled into a strained, insincere smile.
Since Shen Lai and Bai Hansui formed one team, the remaining pair—Pei Jingyan and Huo Chilin—had no choice but to team up.
After the groups were finalized, the production crew distributed GPS devices and honey-collecting tools to each team.
With Director Miao’s shout of “Begin,” the mission officially started.
The air was quiet as they made their way to their destination. Huo Chilin glanced at Pei Jingyan beside him, who had his hands in his pockets, looking as indifferent as ever, as if completely unaffected by what had just happened.
To Huo Chilin, Pei Jingyan was just putting on a front.
He spoke coolly, “Seems like there’s been some trouble in your relationship with Shen Lai lately?”
Pei Jingyan slowly turned his head to look at Huo Chilin, his tone devoid of any fluctuation. “Who told you that?”
Huo Chilin had intended to say he’d seen Shen Lai the day before, but he worried Pei Jingyan might take it out on her. So he sidestepped the question. “Anyone with eyes could probably tell, don’t you think?”
A hint of mockery laced Pei Jingyan’s voice. “Oh? I thought your eyesight had been failing for a while now.”
Huo Chilin’s expression darkened. “If I hadn’t stepped back back then, do you really think you’d have had a chance to get close to Shen Lai? Once she sees your true colors, she’ll naturally come back to me.”
Pei Jingyan remained unruffled. “Come back to you? So, you’re planning to keep the child but discard the mother? Have Shen Lai become a stepmother?”
Bai Hansui’s pregnancy had always been a thorn in Huo Chilin’s heart. Pei Jingyan’s sudden mention of it was like poking that thorn, stirring up an inexplicable irritation.
Huo Chilin’s face instantly twisted in displeasure. “I’ll make things clear with Bai Hansui soon enough. There’s no need for you to concern yourself with that.”
Pei Jingyan’s lips curled slightly. “Is that so? Then you’d better handle it quickly, Young Master Huo. Wouldn’t want any unexpected complications to make things worse.”
Huo Chilin’s fists clenched so tightly they creaked, as if Pei Jingyan had struck a nerve.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Shen Lai and Bai Hansui walked side by side, with the camera crew following at a distance.
Bai Hansui suddenly broke the silence. “I didn’t expect you to agree to team up with me.”
Shen Lai gave her a meaningful glance. “Still better than being stuck with Huo Chilin, don’t you think?”
Bai Hansui’s eyelid twitched violently.
Shen Lai didn’t bother looking at her expression and instead focused on the GPS in her hand, continuing to search for their destination.
Bai Hansui’s eyes burned with a mix of fury and venom as she stared at Shen Lai’s back.
Soon, the two found a beehive hidden by the production crew near the hillside.
Shen Lai turned to Bai Hansui. “Hand me the honey-collecting tools.”
Bai Hansui feigned concern. “You’re pregnant, maybe I should do it instead.”
Shen Lai raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you pregnant too?”
Bai Hansui stiffened, instinctively glancing at the camera behind them.
Fortunately, it was far enough away that Shen Lai’s words weren’t picked up.
Seeing her reaction, Shen Lai chuckled softly. “No need to be so nervous. After all, the baby in your belly will be gone soon anyway.”
Her tone was light, but the words detonated like a landmine in Bai Hansui’s heart.
The words Huo Chilin had said to Shen Lai last night echoed in her ears. It wouldn’t be long before Huo Chilin would force her to abort this child.
In Huo Chilin’s heart, neither she nor the child in her womb mattered at all!
Bai Hansui’s pupils were like pools of icy water, chillingly cold, her gaze at Shen Lai as if she wanted to devour her.
Shen Lai paid no attention to Bai Hansui’s reaction, the knife tip slicing open the wax seal of the honeycomb, golden honey oozing down the blade.
Shen Lai focused on collecting the honey with a special scraper when suddenly, Bai Hansui’s icy voice sounded behind her, “You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”
Hearing this, Shen Lai stopped and turned to look at Bai Hansui.
Bai Hansui said resentfully, “You’re doing this to get back at me for stealing your boyfriend, so now you want to steal mine, right?”
She didn’t believe Shen Lai truly wanted to reconcile with Huo Chilin. Shen Lai was only doing this to humiliate her, to settle the score from back then.
Shen Lai glanced to the side and saw the camera turning toward Dai Tong’s group, who had appeared nearby.
No wonder Bai Hansui dared to speak so abruptly.
Shen Lai raised an eyebrow but didn’t deny it. “So what if I am?”
Bai Hansui clenched her teeth. “You already have Pei Jingyan. Why do you still have to compete with me?”
Shen Lai cut her off. “Get this straight, you started it. Not only did you steal my boyfriend, but you also slandered me behind my back. Did you really think I’d just let it go?”
Bai Hansui’s expression cracked as if slashed by a knife.
Shen Lai slipped her hand into her pocket. “But I am curious, what was your reason for smearing me behind my back? Was it just for Huo Chilin?”
Bai Hansui’s breathing grew ragged, her fingertips digging into her palms. “What exactly makes me inferior to you? Why is it that whenever I’m around you, I always end up as your supporting act?!”
Shen Lai’s heart stirred.
So this was Bai Hansui’s reason for framing her.
She had thought there was some deep grievance, but it was just this?
Shen Lai laughed and stepped closer to Bai Hansui. “I don’t recall ever forcing you to be my friend, did I? If you felt wronged, you could have just walked away. But you didn’t.”
“You took all the benefits I gave you while acting like my generosity was an insult, like it tainted your dignity. Bai Hansui, I’ve never met someone so hypocritical.”
Though their family backgrounds were vastly different, Shen Lai had never looked down on Bai Hansui. She always thought of Bai Hansui first when she had something good.
She had believed they were close friends, but in Bai Hansui’s eyes, everything she did was just charity.
Bai Hansui’s chest heaved, her throat clogged as if something were stuck there, rendering her speechless.
Shen Lai stared at her expressionlessly, enunciating each word clearly. “Someone like you only deserves to rot in the dark, damp sewers for the rest of your life. You’ll never deserve a true friend.”
The words pierced Bai Hansui’s heart like a sharp needle. Gone was the gentle, fragile persona she wore on the show, her face was now twisted with malice.
Just then, Bai Hansui noticed the cameraman finishing with Dai Tong’s group and turning toward them.
Bai Hansui suddenly said, “Do you really think I’ll lose to you?”
Shen Lai’s eyelids flickered. Before she could process the meaning of those words, Bai Hansui took a step back.
Then Shen Lai noticed, behind Bai Hansui was a steep slope.
The moment the camera turned toward the two of them, Bai Hansui forcefully shoved Shen Lai, making it appear as though she had been pushed. His entire body toppled backward.
As he fell down the slope, Bai Hansui flashed Shen Lai a triumphant smile.
