- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 50 - Washing My Husband’s Underwear
Shen Lai couldn’t help but widen her eyes.
This was Pei Jingyan’s… underwear?
At first, she thought she only had to wash his clothes and forgot that his underwear was mixed in as well.
Shen Lai swallowed hard. As she crouched down and reluctantly picked up Pei Jingyan’s underwear with a look of distaste, her eyes immediately landed on a certain area she shouldn’t have seen, and her shock deepened.
Was Pei Jingyan’s size… that big?
Images from earlier in the day involuntarily surfaced in her mind, back then, even in loose pajamas, the outline had been unmistakably prominent. It must have been quite impressive.
The moment she realized what she was thinking, she shuddered and quickly shook her head, trying to dispel those inappropriate thoughts.
She was actually wondering about the size of her sworn rival’s…
Shen Lai glanced at the underwear in her hand. If it weren’t for the fact that she still needed Pei Jingyan’s help, she would have thrown it right in his face and told him to wash it himself.
But for now, she had to endure for the sake of peace.
Closing her eyes, Shen Lai quickly scrubbed Pei Jingyan’s underwear while trying to console herself.
In all her years, this was the first time she had ever washed a man’s underwear.
Even Huo Chilin, her ex-boyfriend, had never received such treatment!
After finally finishing the washing, she hung it up to dry.
Once all the laundry was done, Shen Lai stepped out of the bathroom to find Pei Jingyan leisurely reclining against the headboard, flipping through a magazine.
Noticing her exit, Pei Jingyan glanced at her damp hands. “Done?”
Thinking of that underwear, Shen Lai cleared her throat. “Yeah.”
Pei Jingyan studied her slightly flushed face and suddenly asked, “Why is your face so red?”
“Is it?” Shen Lai instinctively touched her cheek, her gaze flickering. “Maybe it was too hot in there?”
Pei Jingyan narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “You didn’t do anything to my clothes to get back at me, did you?”
Shen Lai immediately bristled at his words. “Stop talking nonsense! Do I look like that kind of person?”
Seeing his skeptical expression, she huffed, “If you don’t believe me, go check for yourself.”
Pei Jingyan stared at her for a long moment before finally looking away. “Good.”
As Shen Lai approached the bed, she suddenly hesitated, pausing mid-motion.
Noticing her lingering by the bed, Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong?”
Recalling the incident from the morning, Shen Lai hesitated before blurting out, “Maybe we should sleep in separate beds.”
Since the production team hadn’t done any surprise checks these past few days, they probably wouldn’t get caught even if they slept apart.
Pei Jingyan arched a brow. “Why the sudden suggestion?”
Shen Lai’s expression was awkward. “Wouldn’t it save us from someone accusing me of taking advantage again?”
Pei Jingyan scoffed. “Haven’t you been hugging me plenty these past few days?”
Images of waking up in Pei Jingyan’s arms flashed through her mind, and Shen Lai felt a pang of guilt. “I’ve never been like this before. Who knew I’d start randomly clinging to people here?”
If she hadn’t seen the footage herself, she would’ve suspected Pei Jingyan of playing tricks on her.
The corners of Pei Jingyan’s lips curled slightly. “Maybe someone secretly has a crush on me but pretends to hate me on the surface, just so she can take advantage.”
Shen Lai nearly jumped in indignation. “No way! There’s no way I’d like you, you’re not even my type!”
Pei Jingyan lounged leisurely, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes. “Oh? Then what type do you like? The kind like Huo Chilin who enjoys cheating?”
Shen Lai’s heart ached at the jab. She clenched her fists and turned to gaze at the night outside the window. “In any case, it’s not someone like you.”
Pei Jingyan’s eyes darkened instantly.
The temperature in the room seemed to plummet. After what felt like an eternity, Pei Jingyan spoke again, his voice low and heavy in the darkness. “Too bad. Even if you dislike me, you’re already married to me now.”
“So you’d better put aside any thoughts of affairs or cheating. Even if you have someone you like, you can’t touch them now. Don’t forget, Miss Shen,” he said, his tone icy, “you’re married to me. So even if you have feelings for someone else, it’s useless. I suggest you drop the idea.”
His gaze swept over Shen Lai’s abdomen, lingering meaningfully. “And don’t forget, Miss Shen, you’re carrying my child.”
Shen Lai had been trying hard to forget about her pregnancy, but Pei Jingyan’s reminder forced her to face the reality once more.
She glanced down at her stomach. It hadn’t even been three months yet, and her loose clothing hid any signs of pregnancy.
Who would have thought that inside her was a child belonging to her and Pei Jingyan?
Shen Lai took several deep breaths, forcing herself to remain composed. “No need to remind me. I still have some professional integrity. If I ever wanted to pursue anything, I’d wait until after our divorce.”
She didn’t know when the old man would pass away, but once Pei Jingyan secured his position as the heir, they might not even need to wait that long.
Perhaps by then, Pei Jingyan would be the one who couldn’t stand it and would file for divorce first.
At the mention of “divorce,” Pei Jingyan’s gaze deepened, unreadable and inscrutable.
Silence hung heavily between them. Even after the lights were turned off, neither spoke another word.
Shen Lai scrolled through Weibo, unsurprised to find Bai Hansui’s words from that afternoon already trending. The goodwill she had painstakingly rebuilt over the past few days had plummeted back to rock bottom. Many were saying she deserved it, that Bai Hansui stealing her boyfriend was justifiable revenge.
Just then, a hand reached over and took her phone. “Enough. Go to sleep.”
For once, Shen Lai didn’t try to snatch it back. She turned to look at Pei Jingyan, hesitating before asking, “Can you really help me resolve this?”
Pei Jingyan casually turned off the phone and placed it on the nightstand. “What, you don’t trust me?”
It wasn’t that Shen Lai doubted his capability, she was just worried that those people wouldn’t be willing to testify for her.
After all, she wasn’t the untouchable Shen family heiress anymore, and Bai Hansui had Huo Chilin backing her. Those people might not dare to offend her.
Seeing Shen Lai lost in thought, Pei Jingyan said dismissively, “In any case, if I promise you something, I’ll deliver. Now go to sleep.”
Shen Lai supposed he was right. Overthinking wouldn’t change anything. She closed her eyes and willed herself to sleep.
Perhaps exhausted from the day’s events, she soon drifted off.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already morning.
And just as expected, she woke up once more in Pei Jingyan’s arms.
Pei Jingyan had one arm draped over her waist and the other cradling her head. Shen Lai rested her head against his firm, muscular chest, the scorching heat of his body seeping through his pajamas. Their intimate posture made them look no different from an ordinary married couple.
