- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 45 - Why Should I Keep Holding Back?
[Shen Lai’s question is absolutely savage!]
[Is Shen Lai asking this because she thinks Huo Chilin is into her? How shameless.]
[Wow, the cheater still has fans? Guess I’ve seen it all now.]
[Hey, upstairs, not everyone is obsessed with your “idol.” Besides, Shen Lai has such a hot husband, only someone blind would go back to trash like that.]
[Exactly! Did you not see yesterday’s trending topic? Their relationship is rock-solid. Stay away, rotten cucumber.]
Huo Chilin’s expression darkened. Aware of the surrounding guests and crew watching him, he forced composure and said, “Of course not. I only love Suisui.”
Bai Hansui lowered her eyes in response, offering a shy smile at just the right moment.
But the next second, Huo Chilin’s lie detector suddenly blared a sharp alarm.
His face twisted as his hand, strapped to the device, jerked violently as if electrocuted. He shot up from his chair, instinctively trying to yank the detector off.
When he finally realized what was happening, he looked around, only to find everyone staring at him with strange expressions.
The live chat exploded the moment the lie detector lit up.
[Holy crap, the detector went off! Huo Chilin was lying!]
[So he still hasn’t gotten over Shen Lai? Disgusting. He dumped her when she was at her lowest, hooked up with her ex-bestie, and now wants her back?]
[Can Bai Hansui just dump this trash and find someone better? I’m so done with this!]
[My heart aches for our Suisui. How could she end up with such a scumbag?]
Shen Lai arched a brow.
She had asked that question deliberately.
Since Bai Hansui insisted on dragging her into the mud, she might as well strike back.
Sure enough, she noticed Bai Hansui’s fingers digging into her palms beneath her sleeves, her forced smile barely holding together.
Shen Lai chuckled lightly. “Seems like Young Master Huo has someone new on his mind.”
She turned to Bai Hansui and “kindly” reminded her, “Miss Bai, you’d better be careful. If he cheated on me with you, who’s to say he won’t cheat on you with someone else?”
The words stabbed into Bai Hansui’s heart like a thorn, finally cracking her carefully crafted facade.
Shen Lai had to admire her, even now, Bai Hansui could still hold back. Truly a professional actress.
Huo Chilin finally caught on. He glared at Shen Lai, teeth clenched. “You set me up?”
Shen Lai blinked innocently. “Young Master Huo, aren’t we just playing a game? How is this me setting you up?”
Huo Chilin’s chest heaved. He was convinced Shen Lai was retaliating for his past betrayal, deliberately humiliating him in front of everyone.
Yet he couldn’t even blame her, doing so would only make him look petty.
Watching Huo Chilin’s frustration, Shen Lai felt a surge of satisfaction as she returned to her seat.
“You did that on purpose?” Pei Jingyan’s teasing voice sounded beside her.
Shen Lai glanced up to find him watching her with amusement. She scoffed. “They can scheme against me, but I can’t do the same?”
Pei Jingyan smirked. “Aren’t you afraid they’ll hold a grudge?”
Shen Lai shrugged. “They’ll hate me no matter what I do. So why should I keep holding back?”
Watching Shen Lai’s proud and triumphant demeanor, as if she had reverted to the spoiled and willful young miss of the Shen family, Pei Jingyan’s eyes flickered with amusement. He slipped his hands into his pockets and said, “Aren’t you going to consider your husband’s feelings?”
“Later, I’ll have to partner with your ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend.”
Shen Lai looked at Pei Jingyan, who was gazing at her with a teasing expression. She replied earnestly, “Then you’ll just have to fend for yourself.”
Besides, she couldn’t wait to see Pei Jingyan squirm.
Next up were Yan Rui and Tong Miaoling. Upholding the principle of ladies first, the award-winning actress began with her question.
“Was the hotel scandal about catching a mistress true?”
[Wow, as expected of the Best Actress, the question is to the point!]
[Thank you, Best Actress, for asking what we’ve all been dying to know!” I’m so curious too!]
[I wonder how Yan Rui will answer. Lying won’t get him past this.]
Yan Rui glanced at Wu Qi, who was also looking at him, her expression unreadable.
After a moment of silence, Yan Rui answered, “No.”
Tong Miaoling wasn’t surprised by his response. Even if he had cheated, he wouldn’t admit it in public.
She lowered her gaze to the lie detector in Yan Rui’s hand, but it showed no reaction.
[Damn, so all those rumors were just made up by gossip accounts?]
[But paparazzi photos showed Wu Qi at the hotel. Those couldn’t have been fake, right?]
[Maybe the couple just went to the hotel separately? And if Yan Rui really cheated, the lie detector would’ve reacted, wouldn’t it?]
Tong Miaoling raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised, then turned to Yan Rui and said, “Your turn.”
When it was Yan Rui’s turn to ask, his question was, “Have you ever regretted marrying the award-winning actor?”
The moment the words left his mouth, the live chat exploded with comments about Yan Rui’s boldness.
Tong Miaoling smiled calmly. “No.”
As expected, the lie detector in her hand remained silent.
[Ahhhhhhhh I’m melting!!!!]
[Truly the golden couple of the entertainment industry! I can’t handle this!]
[Even if they seemed a bit off earlier, couples fight sometimes, right? People who say they’re divorced must have ulterior motives.]
[We will forever support the Golden Couple!!]
The two passed smoothly, and the next pair was Pei Jingyan and Bai Hansui.
Pei Jingyan lounged lazily in his seat, tilting his head slightly as the staff fastened the lie detector on him. His effortlessly cool demeanor sent the live chat into a frenzy.
[No matter how many times I see him, I’ll always say it, Pei Jingyan is ridiculously handsome!]
[Just hypothetically, why can’t he be my husband?]
[Another day of envying Shen Lai, waking up to that face every morning.]
[Shen Lai, step aside and let me have a turn for a couple of days.]
Soon, both lie detectors were ready. Bai Hansui smiled sweetly. “Mr. Pei, shall I ask first?”
Pei Jingyan gestured for her to proceed.
“Then I’ll be blunt.”
Bai Hansui’s smile was sweet, but her eyes briefly flickered to Shen Lai before returning to Pei Jingyan as she cut straight to the point. “Mr. Pei, do you actually not like Shen Lai at all?”
Shen Lai’s heart skipped a beat, and she looked up at Bai Hansui.
From this angle, Bai Hansui could see her clearly, and a flash of triumph crossed her eyes.
Shen Lai frowned and turned her gaze to Pei Jingyan.
She knew Bai Hansui was doing this on purpose.
As her former best friend, Bai Hansui knew better than anyone that the two were sworn enemies, there was no way they could have fallen in love in such a short time. That’s why she seized this opportunity to test Pei Jingyan.
If Pei Jingyan lied and was exposed, the loving couple persona they had been maintaining would crumble instantly.
Yet Pei Jingyan didn’t even flinch. With one hand resting lazily on the armrest, he answered without hesitation, “I do. I like her very much.”
