- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 22 - Thank Goodness They're Together
Shen Lai quickly averted her gaze as if burned.
Who was peeking at him?
Shameless!
Watching Shen Lai swiftly turn her head away, pretending nothing had happened, Pei Jingyan’s lips curled into a faint smile. His fingers, tucked in his pockets, twitched slightly, suddenly itching with an inexplicable urge.
A moment later, when Shen Lai glanced back, Pei Jingyan was already looking elsewhere.
She exhaled softly in relief, only to notice Bai Hansui still standing beside her.
Her tone cooled. “You’d be better off worrying about yourself, Miss Bai.”
With that, she stepped aside, putting distance between them. Yet, the words Bai Hansui had spoken earlier lingered in her mind, stirring unease.
That was all so long ago, Pei Jingyan might have already forgotten.
The thought unsettled her.
Would they really end up exposed in this segment today?
Meanwhile, Yan Rui and Wu Qi were reenacting their first meeting.
[No need for these two to act, they’re definitely going to fail.]
[Yeah, if they couldn’t even handle the simple task this morning, how can they manage this?]
[By that logic, Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui’s pair will fail too, right?]
[Always dragging our “Lin-Sui CP” into this, how shameless can you be?]
At the same time, Wu Qi looked at Yan Rui with a hint of mockery. “Should we just admit defeat now? Save ourselves the embarrassment later.”
Yan Rui stared intently at her, his expression darkening. “Are you saying you’ve forgotten how we first met?”
Wu Qi smirked. “I’m afraid it’s you who’s forgotten.”
“We met at the company entrance. How could I forget?” Yan Rui replied without hesitation.
Wu Qi stiffened. Slowly, she raised her eyes to meet his, finding an unreadable emotion swirling in his gaze.
Her fingers clenched slightly, her voice hoarse. “You… remember?”
“Of course I do,” Yan Rui said. “Back then, I was just a nobody singer. The company that was supposed to sign me tried to screw me over, and I called them out on it. In a rage, they threw me out. It was pouring rain, and you were the one who helped me pick up my things.”
He recounted every detail with startling clarity. Wu Qi had assumed Yan Rui would have long forgotten. After all, such a “trivial matter” would easily slip the mind of someone as busy as him.
The audience, who had been mocking them just moments ago, now watched in stunned silence as Yan Rui and Wu Qi flawlessly recreated their first encounter, down to the exact dialogue.
Viewers in the livestream were floored.
[If they’ve broken up, why does it seem like they still have feelings? They remember every word from back then.]
[I take back what I said about them splitting, maybe they’re just in a cold war.]
[No, no, my brain feels like it’s growing something, it’s itching!]
After their flawless reenactment, Director Miao was momentarily stunned before belatedly raising his megaphone. “Yan Wu pair passes! Next up, the Huo Bai pair!”
Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui had met at a birthday party, where Bai Hansui tripped and fell into Huo Chilin’s arms, leading to their serendipitous connection.
This drama-like encounter sent their CP fans into a frenzy.
[Isn’t this straight out of a K-drama? So romantic!]
[As expected, the meeting of my CP is different from everyone else’s!]
[I already said the mistake this morning was because Suisui got hurt. All you haters who can’t stand to see them happy should open your damn eyes and see clearly.]
Watching Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui reenact the scene from that day, Shen Lai let out a cold laugh in her heart.
So these two had already gotten together that early.
No wonder their expressions had been a little strange when she came downstairs after changing her clothes. At the time, she hadn’t thought much of it, but now it was clear, there had already been signs between them back then.
Shen Lai suddenly spoke up, “Can I ask something?”
Everyone turned to look at her in unison.
Shen Lai smiled faintly. “Whose birthday party did Young Master Huo and Miss Bai meet at?”
Her abrupt question caught the two off guard. A flicker of panic flashed across Bai Hansui’s face, while Huo Chilin’s expression tensed. Forcing composure, Bai Hansui replied, “It was just an ordinary friend’s birthday party.”
[Why is Shen Lai suddenly asking this out of nowhere? What does it have to do with her?]
[Looks like she’s just trying to get attention in front of Young Master Huo. How shameless.]
[Could it be that Shen Lai wants to claim they met at her birthday party? That’s hilarious.]
Shen Lai drew out her tone, “Oh, an ordinary friend, huh?”
Bai Hansui’s palms were sweating as she struggled to maintain her stiff smile. “Mhm.”
Shen Lai’s gaze swept over Huo Chilin’s face, just in time to catch the hint of discomfort in his expression. She smirked mockingly but didn’t press further.
Back then, only Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui had celebrated her birthday with her. Even if she said something now, no one would believe her, they’d just think she was trying to ride on their coattails.
Seeing that Shen Lai didn’t continue, Bai Hansui finally relaxed, afraid she might say something incriminating. She quickly finished the reenactment with Huo Chilin.
Next up was Shen Lai and Pei Jingyan. The moment the two stepped forward together, Pei Jingyan asked, “So they hooked up right under your nose?”
Having her humiliation exposed in front of Pei Jingyan made Shen Lai feel awkward. “Yeah.”
“Weren’t you always bragging about your sharp eye?” Pei Jingyan shot her a sidelong glance. “You didn’t even notice them getting together at your own birthday party?”
Shen Lai refused to back down. “It’s not like I could’ve watched them 24/7. How was I supposed to know they’d hook up?”
Besides, Bai Hansui had acted like she couldn’t stand Huo Chilin back then, avoiding any occasion where he was present.
How could Shen Lai have guessed it was all an act?
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow and murmured, “Though, it’s a good thing they did get together.”
Shen Lai didn’t quite catch that. Just as she was about to ask, Director Miao’s “Mission start!” interrupted her.
Her attention quickly shifted, uncertain whether Pei Jingyan still remembered how they had first met as children.
At that moment, Pei Jingyan turned and walked toward the staircase.
Shen Lai hurriedly called after him, “Hey, where are you going?”
Pei Jingyan didn’t answer, continuing upstairs on his own.
This sudden, unexpected move left the other guests and staff exchanging bewildered looks.
[Huh? What’s going on? Why did CEO Pei leave?]
[Did he give up on the task because he couldn’t remember?]
[I told you this couple is obviously fake. Their good performance earlier was probably all scripted. Now that Director Miao separated them, they’re exposed.]
[Talk about slapping yourselves in the face after bragging about how great their relationship is—I can practically feel the sting from here, hahaha!]
In the corner, Bai Hansui’s lips curled up imperceptibly.
As expected, Pei Jingyan had long forgotten such a trivial matter.
Just as the barrage of sarcastic comments flooded the screen, Pei Jingyan, who had left moments ago, suddenly turned back and descended the stairs.
Seeing Shen Lai frozen in place, Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow. “What? Forgotten the scene of our first meeting already?”
