- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 17 - Deliberately Falling Into My Arms
[Director Miao, you really know what we want!]
[Isn’t it a bit too intense first thing in the morning? (sly grin)]
[Are we sure this segment can be aired? Will we see something we shouldn’t?]
[We’re not outsiders, what’s there we shouldn’t see?]
[Exactly! We’re all family here!]
[Besides, this is the kind of situation you can’t fake. You can tell at a glance whether they’re a real couple or just pretending!]
[I’m already looking forward to it (rubbing hands excitedly)!]
The first couple to be ambushed were Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui, who had failed their mission the night before and were staying on the first floor. Director Miao quietly pushed open the door with the spare key prepared in advance.
The first thing that came into view was a clean and tidy room. As the camera panned to the side, Bai Hansui was just stretching and sitting up from the bed. She yawned elegantly, her pajamas riding up slightly with the movement, revealing a slender, fair waist.
As if hearing the commotion behind her, Bai Hansui turned her head.
When she saw the camera, she covered her mouth in surprise. “Director Miao, what are you all doing here?”
[Holy! A fairy!]
[Who else felt the sudden impact of Suisui’s beauty?]
[Is Suisui just naturally this gorgeous? How is this any different from when she’s wearing makeup?]
[Did anyone notice that Young Master Huo was lying right next to Bai Hansui? What does that mean? It means they slept together last night… ahhhhhhh! I’m dead!]
[Maybe they did more than just sleep last night? (sly grin)]
[Those who said their relationship was bad yesterday? come out and apologize! Open your eyes and see clearly. What kind of couple with a bad relationship would sleep together?]
Bai Hansui seemed to realize belatedly that she wasn’t wearing makeup and quickly covered her face, fleeing into the bathroom like a startled deer, making the live audience gush over how adorable she was.
Once the door was closed, Bai Hansui’s shy expression faded, and a triumphant smile slowly curled at the corners of her lips.
She had guessed the production team might pull a surprise visit, so she had woken up early to apply light makeup. When she heard footsteps, she deliberately pretended to wake up, casually showcasing her natural beauty in front of the camera.
Admiring her gentle and beautiful reflection in the mirror, Bai Hansui smugly tucked her hair behind her ear. Today, she would undoubtedly be the most eye-catching guest.
Meanwhile, Director Miao had already made his way to the second floor. The second couple to be ambushed were Dai Jingxuan and Tong Miaoling, who were staying in the secondary bedroom. The two had already woken up and were video-calling their elementary school-aged son, the atmosphere warm and harmonious.
Combined with their performance in last night’s game, the live audience became even more convinced that the rumors of their divorce were baseless.
At the end of the hallway was Yan Rui and Wu Qi’s room. Everyone had assumed they would be as predictable as the previous two couples, but when Director Miao pushed open the door, they were met with the sight of the two sleeping in separate beds.
Even Director Miao was stunned.
How could this young couple not even bother pretending for the show?
[No way… They’re sleeping in separate beds? Could their relationship really be in trouble?]
[Some people are overreacting. Maybe they just had a fight. Have you never given your partner the cold shoulder before?]
[I agree. When my boyfriend and I argue, it’s like this too, we don’t even want to touch each other.]
[Even so, don’t you think Yan Rui and Wu Qi have been acting a bit strange since the show started? It feels like more than just a simple fight.]
#Yan Rui and Wu Qi Suspected Breakup# immediately trended on the hot search.
Their CP fans couldn’t stand it and jumped in to defend them.
[Can’t you just let people be happy? Just because a couple argues doesn’t mean they’ve broken up!]
[I bet some people are just trying to drag our faves down to make that plastic couple look less pathetic later.]
[Exactly! The controlled comments started yesterday, how much did CEO Pei pay you? Spill the numbers so we can all get a cut!]
Amid the chaos in the livestream, Yan Rui and Wu Qi were already woken up by the noise.
When they saw the production crew, they looked flustered, and an awkward tension filled the air.
Director Miao had already stealthily made his way to the third floor.
As the door creaked open, the room was dim, the curtains fluttering in the breeze. Sunlight seeped through the gaps, spilling onto the pristine floor.
When the camera slowly panned to the white bed in the center of the room, the livestream audience clearly saw Pei Jingyan holding Shen Lai in his arms, the latter nestled against his chest. Both were fast asleep, completely unaware that the crew had barged in.
[??? This isn’t what I expected at all.]
[Somehow… it’s kinda sweet?]
[Am I hallucinating? These two are actually sleeping in each other’s arms?!]
[And CEO Pei is holding her so tight, with Shen Lai leaning against his chest like a little bird—they look weirdly perfect together.]
[Is no one gonna talk about how their faces are literal works of art? Too gorgeous!]
#Shen Lai and Pei Jingyan Bed Scene# instantly shot to the top of the hot search, overshadowing Yan Rui and Wu Qi’s topic.
Shen Lai woke up from the heat.
Something heavy was pressing against her waist, making it hard to breathe.
She slowly opened her eyes, only to see Pei Jingyan’s sharp, defined features up close. Strands of his hair fell over his strong brow, his lashes distinct, his nose straight, and lips thin. The faint scent of cedarwood, unmistakably masculine, lingered around her.
Shen Lai blinked, her brain lagging for a few seconds before it finally clicked. She bolted upright in bed.
When did she end up sleeping in Pei Jingyan’s arms?!
The sudden movement made her notice the camera pointed right at the bed.
Behind it stood a row of crew members, watching intently.
Shen Lai: “?”
The livestream audience had been enjoying the serene moment when suddenly the camera shook violently, and Shen Lai’s slightly panicked face appeared on screen, completely unprepared.
The comments froze for a few seconds before exploding at an insane speed.
[Holy shit! That bare face!]
[I thought Bai Hansui’s bare face was unbeatable, but Shen Lai’s is next level! Not a single pore even this close up!]
[My nonexistent phantom limb just twitched.]
[Her bare face outshines 95% of celebrities, right? Does she even wear makeup on shows? There’s literally no difference.]
Shen Lai had always been a magnet for haters, and they quickly jumped in.
[Who’s to say she didn’t put on makeup beforehand and waited for the crew? Such a schemer!]
[Right? And they just happened to be cuddling? So fake.]
But for once, their comments were drowned out by others. Everyone had their own judgment, no makeup could look this flawless up close. It was definitely her bare face.
In the past, whenever Shen Lai was criticized, the replies would pile on. But today, the trolls were suddenly silenced by the backlash.
Perhaps Shen Lai’s movements were too loud, as Pei Jingyan’s thick eyelashes fluttered slightly, and those deep, dark eyes slowly opened.
He saw Shen Lai sitting on the bed, her face tinged with a faint blush. Following her gaze, he turned his head and noticed several cameras pointed directly at them.
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow. “What’s going on here?”
Director Miao grinned slyly. “Mr. Pei, our show crew is conducting a room raid to observe how the four couples interact in their daily lives.”
Pei Jingyan glanced at Director Miao, then at Shen Lai, who couldn’t meet his eyes. He lowered his gaze to the reddened marks on his arm, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes, as if he had already pieced together what had happened.
“Since the raid is over, can you leave now?” Pei Jingyan leaned lazily against the headboard, his open collar revealing a broad, well-defined chest. His tone carried the drowsiness of someone not fully awake. “We still need to catch up on some sleep.”
At the mention of “catching up on sleep,” Shen Lai’s ears burned even hotter.
Something about that phrasing sounded… off.
[Director Miao, did you hear that? Mr. Pei is basically calling you a third wheel.]
[Hurry up and leave, Mr. Pei and Shen Lai have important business to attend to (smirking).]
[Can you at least leave one camera behind for a live broadcast? I promise I won’t leak anything (raising five fingers in oath).]
[Mr. Pei’s face is practically screaming, “You interrupted my sleep with my wife.” Director Miao, if you don’t leave soon, I think he might just silence you permanently.]
Director Miao made an apologetic gesture. “Mr. Pei, I’m afraid you won’t be getting that extra sleep. All the guests are gathering downstairs now, so it’s time for you two to get up.”
With that, he left the room, thoroughly satisfied, along with the rest of the crew.
The moment the production team exited, Shen Lai couldn’t hold back any longer.
“What happened last night? How did I end up in your… your arms?”
The last few words stumbled out awkwardly, as if she found them difficult to say.
Pei Jingyan replied lazily, “You’re asking me? I was about to ask you the same thing.”
Shen Lai frowned. “What?”
“I was sleeping just fine when you suddenly threw yourself into my arms. No matter how much I pushed, you wouldn’t let go.” A mocking smile curled at the corner of Pei Jingyan’s lips. “Shen Lai, were you trying to take advantage of me on purpose?
