- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 105 - A Fake Marriage
The sudden mention of Pei Jingyan made Shen Lai’s heart skip a beat.
Her voice was guarded as she asked, “What do you want?”
Bai Hansui leaned back against the shelf behind her, smirking. “Nothing much. I just want to see since he’s so devoted to you, what choice he’ll make when forced to decide.”
Though Shen Lai didn’t know Bai Hansui’s exact intentions, she was certain they weren’t good.
Strangely, she felt a wave of calm wash over her. “If you’re trying to test our relationship, there’s no need.”
Bai Hansui eyed her suspiciously. “What do you mean?”
Shen Lai replied coolly, “Because we were never really married.”
Bai Hansui’s brows furrowed tightly. “What did you say?”
“We were just in a business partnership.”
Hearing this, Bai Hansui’s face flashed with shock.
She stared at Shen Lai, then suddenly let out a mocking laugh. “You expect me to believe that?”
Given Pei Jingyan’s behavior on the show, how could it possibly be fake?
Shen Lai must be lying to protect him.
Unfazed, Shen Lai continued, “Don’t you find it strange? Pei Jingyan and I have been sworn enemies since childhood. How could we suddenly get married? Especially right after I was exposed for faking a pregnancy.”
Before Bai Hansui could respond, Shen Lai added, “And as my ‘former’ best friend, you should know better than anyone how much I despise Pei Jingyan, right?”
Sure enough, Bai Hansui’s expression wavered. She had doubted the timing of their relationship before, but their interactions on the show had dispelled her suspicions.
“So everything between you two on the show was just an act?”
“Of course,” Shen Lai said. “As for his behavior on the show, he was just playing along.”
“So even if something happened to me, he wouldn’t care. At worst, he’d just find another woman to bear his child. With his status, all he has to do is lift a finger, and countless women would throw themselves at him. I’m nothing special.”
“And if you really did kill me, he might even thank you for getting rid of an old rival.”
Bai Hansui stared intently at Shen Lai’s face, searching for any sign of deceit. After a long silence, she suddenly smiled. “Is that so? Well then, why don’t you go live and announce that your marriage to Pei Jingyan was fake?”
“You can experience the taste of public ruin firsthand.”
Shen Lai’s brow twitched. “A live broadcast to clarify?”
“What, scared?” Bai Hansui’s lips curled into a sneer. “Afraid to lose the fame you’ve worked so hard for? Or worried that once the truth is out, you won’t even be able to keep your position as Mrs. Pei?”
Shen Lai met her gaze. “And if I do clarify, will you let me go?”
Bai Hansui’s smile was cold. “Of course. Once you’re ruined, what reason would I have to harm you?”
Shen Lai studied her skeptically. Though she wasn’t sure if Bai Hansui was telling the truth, at least this could buy Pei Jingyan more time to find her.
Taking a deep breath, Shen Lai nodded. “Fine. I’ll do as you say.”
At the same time, Wan Shilan seemed to have discovered something and rushed to the car with her phone in hand.
“Mr. Pei!”
“Shen Lai is live-streaming!”
Pei Jingyan’s brow twitched as he snatched the phone from Wan Shilan’s hand. The image that greeted him was Shen Lai’s face, her clothes disheveled, hair a mess, and a wound on her neck from some unknown object, the blood already dried.
His gaze darkened instantly as he turned to his assistant beside him. “Any updates on the surveillance footage I asked you to check?”
“We found it!” The assistant hurriedly handed over the tablet. “Mr. Pei, I traced the kidnapper’s route and managed to locate an unaltered camera angle.”
As the footage zoomed in, a familiar face came into view.
Pei Jingyan recognized Bai Hansui immediately, his eyes plunging into an abyss of unfathomable depth.
It was her. She was the one who had kidnapped Shen Lai.
Not only had Pei Jingyan seen the livestream, but netizens on Weibo had also flooded in the moment Shen Lai went live.
[Wait, am I seeing this right? Shen Lai is livestreaming!]
[Hold on, why does the background look so dark? Where is she?]
[Not just the background, her clothes look dirty too, and is that makeup on her neck? It kinda looks like blood.]
[Whatever, food is food! Haven’t seen my queen in days!]
Watching the skyrocketing viewer count, Bai Hansui stood behind the camera and said coldly, “Go on.”
Shen Lai exhaled shakily, forcing composure as she faced the lens. “I’m live today to tell everyone something.”
“The truth is, Pei Jingyan and I aren’t really married. We were just in a contractual relationship, pretending to be together to maintain our public image.”
“I’m deeply sorry for deceiving everyone, and I apologize to my fans. I hope you can forgive me.”
Her voice echoed through the speakers. Wan Shilan cautiously glanced at Pei Jingyan, but his expression was inscrutable, his eyes dark and unreadable.
Shen Lai’s words were like a boulder crashing into still water, instantly stirring up a storm.
[????? What the hell is going on?]
[Fake marriage with Pei Jingyan? No way, is this for real?!]
[I even checked, today’s not April Fools’ Day!!]
[So Shen Lai’s telling the truth? She and Pei Jingyan were faking it? That’s messed up! Were they just playing us for fools?]
[Wait, doesn’t anyone else think this is weird? Why would Shen Lai suddenly come out and admit this? Was she forced?]
[Yeah, I heard someone else talking just now. She’s not alone, someone else is there with her.]
Pei Jingyan turned to his assistant, his voice low. “Track Bai Hansui’s location. Now.”
The assistant didn’t dare delay. “On it!”
Chaos erupted in the livestream, and within minutes, the topic exploded on trending searches.

Watching the endless barrage of comments, Bai Hansui smirked and tapped the “End Stream” button. The screen went black instantly.
Shen Lai let out a deep breath and looked up at Bai Hansui. “I did what you asked. Will you let me go now?”
Bai Hansui burst into laughter. “Shen Lai, did you really think I’d let you off that easily?”
Shen Lai’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”
Bai Hansui approached Shen Lai, looking down at her with a smile that seemed to conceal endless danger. Her fingertips brushed past Shen Lai’s cheek as she murmured, “Now that you’ve seen me, how could I possibly let you leave just like that?”
