- Chapter 66 - Couple Style
It had been a long time since she’d had such a good night’s sleep.
Wen Huiyun turned over, frowning feeling a bit uncomfortable.
She went to the bathroom to change her underwear.
Glancing at the discarded pair, she noticed the dried, dark stain.
Had she dreamed something last night?
Wen Huiyun tried hard to recall, but couldn’t remember a thing.
She subconsciously touched her neck, forced to acknowledge the increasingly noticeable changes of her differentiation.
It seemed the ABO world was quite different from the real world after all, especially in terms of physical reactions.
=.= No wonder novels always described the urges of alphas and omegas as unstoppable forces of nature.
Wen Huiyun quickly took care of personal hygiene and tiptoed back to bed.
Lifting a corner of the blanket, cold air seeped in, disturbing the sleeping omega.
“Mmm…” Ye Zhuoyan murmured sleepily, turning over and curling up.
Wen Huiyun hurriedly pressed down the blanket, propped up a pillow, and leaned against the headboard to check her phone.
“Mm-hmm…” Ye Zhuoyan whimpered like a kitten, nudging Wen Huiyun’s arm aside to burrow into her embrace.
Soft, white, and adorably clingy.
Wen Huiyun’s heart melted instantly. Where did this little white kitten come from, actively snuggling into her arms like this? Of course she had to hold her tight.
She slipped one arm under Ye Zhuoyan’s neck to serve as a pillow, pulling the blanket up to cover half of her face. Ye Zhuoyan always loved sleeping buried in blankets, saying it made her feel safe.
Midway through, Ye Zhuoyan woke briefly, still dazed, smacking her lips against Wen Huiyun’s chest and mumbling about needing to “stamp her mark.”
Then with some fussing, she pulled out a tablet and made Wen Huiyun hold it up as a stand while she watched the latest historical romance drama.
Wen Huiyun couldn’t help but smile, serving dutifully as both backrest and phone stand.
Ye Zhuoyan fell asleep again after watching for a while, her little head burying into Wen Huiyun’s chest, her soft cheeks pressing against the fragrant valley between.
Zhuoyan was sleeping so much today was she exhausted?
Wen Huiyun stroked her hair, paused the show, put down the tablet, and switched to watching home renovation videos on her phone.
Online videos offered endless variety, and Wen Huiyun hadn’t yet asked Ye Zhuoyan about her preferred style.
Well, first she’d need to clear out some space for Ye Zhuoyan’s two cats.
Then pick out kitchen essentials, and find a designer with compatible tastes.
Around noon, Ye Zhuoyan was startled awake by a phone call. She missed it.
Ye Zhuoyan rubbed her hair. “What time is it?”
“Eleven-oh-two.”
“I slept that long?”
Wen Huiyun smiled fondly and nodded. “Yes, and the little kitten was smacking her lips too.” Leaving her chest all damp.
Ye Zhuoyan checked the missed call. “Little kitten? What kitten?”
Wen Huiyun smiled without answering.
“Hello, Sister Li.” It was her agent.
Ye Zhuoyan called back, leaning against Wen Huiyun and playfully blowing on her hair.
Wen Huiyun pinched her little ear, no mischief allowed.
Ye Zhuoyan’s gaze gradually cleared as she held the phone, listening with downcast eyes. “Mm, mm, okay.”
Suddenly her voice rose sharply: “What? Now?”
The phone’s speaker leaked the response: Yes, right now. Zhuoyan, what are you doing? Don’t tell me you’re still in bed?
Ye Zhuoyan: Actually, I am still in bed.
Wen Huiyun averted her eyes nervously this wasn’t her fault!
She hadn’t done anything; Ye Zhuoyan was the one who wouldn’t get up.
Ye Zhuoyan pinched her thigh, and Wen Huiyun pressed her face against Ye Zhuoyan’s smooth back in protest that really hurt.
“I understand, Sister Li. I’ll be there on time.” Ye Zhuoyan hung up and sighed.
Wen Huiyun wrapped her arm around her slender waist, “Madam, is there something urgent with work?”
Ye Zhuoyan pushed her away, eyes sparkling, “Tell me, where did this little kitten come from?”
Wen Huiyun said, “Let me give you a kiss to show you.”
Ye Zhuoyan: “?”
Wen Huiyun kissed Ye Zhuoyan’s cheek.
Oh, so the little white kitten making smacking sounds was Ye Zhuoyan.
*
Ye Zhuoyan’s manager mentioned there was an advertisement she needed to audition for, and it was urgent she had to be there that afternoon.
Wen Huiyun drove her to the office building.
Sister Li was waiting for them in the underground parking lot.
“You hired a driver?” Sister Li opened the door.
Ye Zhuoyan sat in the passenger seat and stepped out, revealing four bold words on the seat:
Wen Family’s Official Wife.
Sister Li: O▽O!
Ye Zhuoyan cleared her throat, “Ahem.”
Sister Li glanced at the driver’s seat, “Don’t tell me your driver is.”
Unaware that the manager knew about their secret marriage, Wen Huiyun greeted her politely as a stranger, “Hello.”
“Oh my god!”
Sister Li gasped, pulling Ye Zhuoyan aside.
She whispered urgently, “My dear, why did you bring the Wen family’s ancestor along?”
Ye Zhuoyan raised an eyebrow but didn’t respond, turning to Wen Huiyun instead, “I’ll text you when I’m done.”
Wen Huiyun nodded with a smile.
Sister Li, utterly bewildered, followed Ye Zhuoyan.
After just a few steps, Ye Zhuoyan stopped and turned back to Wen Huiyun, “Actually, why don’t you come with me?” She added, “My assistant quit. I’m short on help.”
Sister Li: “?!”
In the past, Ye Zhuoyan would curse at the mere mention of Wen, that scumbag Alpha. How were they now all lovey-dovey, exchanging lingering glances, and even sticking together for an audition?
Was there some magic in dating shows that could reform scumbags and rekindle love?
In the few minutes it took for Sister Li to process her shock, Assistant Wen had already started working without any credentials and was surprisingly smooth about it: “Of course, Miss Ye.”
The studio lights were dazzling.
The set had already been prepared.
It was an ad for a well-known home goods brand. The client believed Ye Zhuoyan’s elegance aligned perfectly with their “warm and graceful” concept, so they specifically requested her for the audition.
Wen Huiyun accompanied Ye Zhuoyan to the dressing room, helping her change into the brand’s featured loungewear.
Though called loungewear, it was essentially pajamas except Ye Zhuoyan’s dress was far more refined than an ordinary nightgown, exuding a meticulously designed sense of quality at first glance.
The pure white lace collar rested delicately on her collarbone, while two crescent-shaped arcs of tiny diamonds adorned her waistline.
Her silhouette was soft and graceful, swaying with every movement.
“You’re staring at me again.”
Ye Zhuoyan tapped Wen Huiyun’s nose.
“Miss Ye is beautiful.”
Wen Huiyun leaned in close.
She had been wanting to do this for a while. While Ye Zhuoyan checked herself in the mirror, Wen Huiyun’s hand slid to her waist, toying with the decorative tassels.
“Assistant Wen, is this how you do your job?”
Ye Zhuoyan shot her a reproachful look.
“Then how should I do it? Miss Ye, teach me.”
In the mirror, Wen Huiyun wrapped her arms around Ye Zhuoyan’s waist, pressing her chest against her back.
Ye Zhuoyan said, “We’re in public. What if someone walks in?”
Wen Huiyun: “I locked the door, Miss Ye. How’s that for an assistant’s skills?”
Ye Zhuoyan chuckled and hugged her, “Not bad.”
Wen Huiyun took the chance to cradle her face, planting a kiss near her eyelid.
“Miss Ye, you’re stunning. Miss Ye, my wife is just as beautiful as you.”
The smile in Ye Zhuoyan’s eyes deepened as she gave her a light push, “Your Miss Ye and your wife both know now. Go call the stylist.”
“As you wish.”
Ye Zhuoyan had her hair styled in a gentle, flowing manner, with the strands at her temples swept back and adorned with a cherry-pink ribbon.
The light shone down on Ye Zhuoyan.
Bright eyes, pearly teeth, standing tall and pure like a lotus.
The unique, ethereal grace of a classical dancer.
Both the director and the brand representative nodded in satisfaction at her look.
Wen Huiyun stood beside Sister Li, proud of her beautiful wife.
Suddenly, the brand representative approached: “Wen Huiyun? You’re Wen Huiyun, right? Teacher Wen!”
Wen Huiyun was caught off guard. “Huh? Ah, yes, that’s me.”
Everyone in the studio turned to look at her. Sister Li facepalmed, why had she impulsively brought Wen Huiyun inside? Someone in the studio might have recognized her from the dating show.
Ye Zhuoyan smiled. “Huiyun came with me. She’s just waiting on the side is that a problem?”
Both Ye Zhuoyan and Sister Li braced for the brand’s reaction.
The brand representative said, “No problem! This is perfect! Actually, this loungewear set comes in two color schemes. How about Teacher Ye and Teacher Wen shoot together? We’ll make it a couples’ ad!”
The director agreed enthusiastically, “Yes, yes! That’s a fantastic idea! Plus, Teacher Wen’s fans from Solace Eatery are part of our target demographic.”
The brand rep excitedly turned to Wen Huiyun. “Teacher Wen, if you agree, please try on the sample outfit.”
“Ah?” Wen Huiyun didn’t know how to respond the invitation was too sudden.
After exchanging a few words with Sister Li, Ye Zhuoyan walked over to Wen Huiyun and whispered, “Do you want to take couples’ photos with me?”
“I do.”
Ye Zhuoyan smirked. “Then I’ll take you to try on the sample.”
Wen Huiyun’s sample outfit was navy blue, a darker shade. The design had subtle differences from Ye Zhuoyan’s white version hers was fitted, while Wen Huiyun’s was looser, without the waistline’s scattered crystal embellishments, and the collar was more minimalist.
Ye Zhuoyan helped her into the top, tightening the waistband and fastening the buttons.
“It’s a little bare here.”
Ye Zhuoyan’s fingertip brushed Wen Huiyun’s neck, the blue version’s collar was wide, revealing a stretch of fair skin.
After studying the mirror for a moment, Ye Zhuoyan untied her hair ribbon and draped it around Wen Huiyun’s neck.
Wen Huiyun said, “This doesn’t cover much.”
“No, it does.”
Ye Zhuoyan leaned in, her thumb pressing lightly against the back of Wen Huiyun’s neck as she murmured by her ear, “What’s mine isn’t for others to see.”
Wen Huiyun’s ears suddenly burned.
Tsk!
Since when do omegas act like this?
During the shoot, the final pose had Ye Zhuoyan half-turned, one slender arm resting lightly on Wen Huiyun’s chest, her fingers playing with the ribbon draped around her neck.
The same design in two colors originally a last-minute ad concept change became a couples’ set.
A bestseller.
Ye Zhuoyan showed Wen Huiyun the sales figures.
Wen Huiyun was stunned. “This actually worked?!”
She had just been a last-minute fill-in, casually posing for the camera, how did it sell so well?!
Ye Zhuoyan laughed. “Don’t sell yourself short. Your face and body have my seal of approval taking couples’ photos with me won’t disappoint.”
“Here’s your contract and payment.”
Ye Zhuoyan set down the documents and card.
Wen Huiyun asked, “Then, Teacher Ye, does Assistant Wen get a contract too?”
Ye Zhuoyan was trying on new clothes in front of the full-length mirror.
This year, she was spending New Year’s with the Wen family, and she wanted to dress meticulously.
“Assistant Wen?”
Ye Zhuoyan lowered her gaze, smiling faintly. “Lifetime contract.”
–
It had been several days since returning home.
Thinking back on the time she’d spent with Wen Huiyun, Ye Zhuoyan found it all so surreal.
This old villa held too many painful memories of her and the other Wen Huiyun.
Ye Zhuoyan knew that Wen Huiyun was different from before.
She knew it very well.
She had carefully sniffed Wen Huiyun’s scent gland, the caramel macchiato pheromones were gradually fading.
One day, Wen Huiyun asked her, What if my scent changes?
It doesn’t matter. Because Ye Zhuoyan knew this day would come eventually.
And when that day arrived, Wen Huiyun wouldn’t have to pretend anymore.
But would Wen Huiyun even present?
Though curious, it wasn’t important.
Whether alpha, omega or beta Ye Zhuoyan would accept it gladly.
She just wanted to embrace the real Wen Huiyun.
Wen Huiyun wasn’t an alpha yet.
So Ye Zhuoyan knew very clearly that in the Ye household, Wen Huiyun wouldn’t and couldn’t, do anything to her.
Yet she couldn’t help but test Wen Huiyun anyway.
The result? Wen Huiyun truly cherished her.
She had been nervous, but Wen Huiyun was even more nervous, forcing herself to stay calm and comfort her.
Saying she would protect her.
Saying they would face it together.
Hmm…
Ye Zhuoyan rested her chin in her hand, watching the busy figure in the kitchen as Wen Huiyun prepared a bento box for her.
Ye Zhuoyan thought, That’s my woman.
A woman without ABO secondary sex characteristics.
Yet more responsible than an alpha, more attentive than an omega, and more diligent than a beta.
Hers, one-of-a-kind.
A gift from the heavens, perhaps.
Otherwise, Ye Zhuoyan had no way to explain the miracle of Wen Huiyun transforming from a scumbag alpha into a devoted wife.
Because.
This Wen Huiyun.
Was definitely not the same as before.
Ye Zhuoyan had heard it.
That night, she had gone into the master bedroom to retrieve the heirloom jade earrings that the old Wen Huiyun had taken from her. Inside the master bathroom, with the door closed and only a small overhead cabinet light on.
Wen Huiyun had entered the master bedroom, unaware she was in the bathroom.
Standing before the floor-to-ceiling windows, surrounded by those pitch-black curtains.
“Last time, you said I didn’t need to grind anything else?” Wen Huiyun spoke to the empty room.
Two seconds later, she continued, “Even if I don’t need to grind affection points anymore, you could at least give me some buffer time!”
“At least wait until the dating show is over otherwise, everyone’s gonna ask me, ‘Why did your pheromones change?’”
“I still have leftover affection points. If the system can exchange them for the original host’s pheromones, then do it.”
“……?” Ye Zhuoyan leaned against the wall, stunned, sliding down to sit on the tiled floor.
Why was Wen Huiyun talking to thin air?
Grind affection points?
What was a system? And what did original host mean?
Outside the bathroom, Wen Huiyun’s voice grew increasingly agitated.
“What kind of bullsht transmigration bureau are you running?! A new mission? This is just infinite exploitation!”*
“I’ve already completed my mission perfectly, I have a wife, a home, a career. Why the hell should I slave away for you?!”
“……”
After a long pause, Wen Huiyun gritted her teeth. “Then what choice do I even have?”
“You’ll just revoke my book access on a whim. I’m already dead in my original world, if I want to live, I have no choice but to obey.”
“Xiao La, this is the first time I’ve ever wanted to swat you like a damn fly!!!”
“Fine. Send the pheromones over tomorrow.”
Peeking through the door crack, Ye Zhuoyan confirmed there was truly nothing around Wen Huiyun.
No phone, no Bluetooth device.
After muttering to the air like a madwoman, Wen Huiyun stormed out in anger.
Ye Zhuoyan waited a long time before her shock and unease finally settled.
Just now, the way Wen Huiyun acted would make anyone think she was either schizophrenic or possessed by evil spirits.
But it wasn’t schizophrenia, nor was it possession.
The next day, a black box arrived at the house, mixed in with other packages.
No label, no shipping information.
Ye Zhuoyan recognized the black box.
Inside was the caramel macchiato pheromone Wen Huiyun had injected during their dating show.
Ye Zhuoyan pretended not to see it.
Picked up the remote and changed the channel.
“Yanyan.”
