- Chapter 60.1 - Hidden Treasure
The Night Before.
The kitchen was covered in white dust from the fire extinguisher.
“You’re saying you’ve seen me in the scrapped draft world?”
Impossible. Wen Huiyun was a person from the real world, and she didn’t have an ABO gender.
“I’m not certain, but it looked a lot like you.”
Jiang Yining’s expression was serene, her calm eyes reflecting the quiet refinement of years gone by. “I’ve reincarnated seven times and never participated in a dating show. This lifetime is for you.”
“Why?”
“Two reasons. The main one is to investigate my awakening mission. The secondary reason is unimportant just work for this lifetime.”
Wen Huiyun’s heart surged with emotion, a myriad of indescribable feelings flooding her.
“Can you tell me about the scrapped draft? About the character who resembled me?”
Jiang Yining paused briefly to recall, then spoke:
“This book, the novel you transmigrated into was completely rewritten after the first draft was finished.”
“The scrapped version was a cliché, melodramatic, morally questionable tragedy, which is why it was ordered to be rewritten.”
“In the scrapped draft, the female lead Alpha and the female lead Omega were engaged. Their engagement was an oral agreement made by their elders, and the two had never even met before the betrothal. They came from vastly different social backgrounds, treated each other with polite respect, and had no feelings for one another.”
“The female lead Alpha was a wealthy CEO who, while pressured by her elders and the prestige of her family to entertain her fiancée, was also romancing a newcomer in her company under the moonlight.”
“The female lead Omega came from a middle-class family, outstanding in both looks and character. She had a childhood friend, a young Alpha, with whom she was very close so close that they even bought plane tickets to elope together.”
“This childhood friend Alpha was an excellent cook, a renowned gourmet. I’ve attended a few culinary competitions for work and seen her before.”
By this point, Wen Huiyun already had an inkling.
Wen Huiyun said, “The scrapped character you said resembles me could it be?”
“Let me finish.”
Jiang Yining cut her off. “In the scrapped draft, this childhood friend Alpha outlived me. After I reincarnated in the new book, the transmigration world I bought the complete scrapped plot from the system and only then learned the ending.”
Wen Huiyun felt inexplicably nervous, her palms damp with sweat. “What was the childhood friend Alpha’s ending?”
Tick. The clock’s hand moved.
Under the pendant light, Wen Huiyun and Jiang Yining sat at opposite ends of the kitchen island.
The floor was covered in white ash, like the snow of time.
Jiang Yining parted her lips:
“This Alpha participated in a global celebrity culinary competition. During the finals, one of the judges suffered food poisoning, and she was thrown into prison. But based on what I know of her, she would never have poisoned anyone.”
One of the organizers of that culinary competition was a high-ranking official from Emerald City.
Wen Huiyun slowly raised her eyes. The snow of time seemed to drift into her pupils, piercing through both worlds.
A memory from the real world before her transmigration surfaced.
I didn’t poison anyone! Why aren’t they investigating the others? Every contestant is a suspect!
I saw another team breaking the rules and entering the kitchen, why aren’t they checking the surveillance footage?
I’ve been framed!
Wen Huiyun clenched her fists.
Different worlds, different experiences yet she and this character shared an eerily similar tragic ending.
Jiang Yining said, “This character’s name was,”
“Wen Huiyun.”
Wen Huiyun’s lips parted slightly, her eyes wide with shock.
Jiang Yining smiled. “That’s right. The character Wen Huiyun has existed since the scrapped draft.”
“But did you know? Even though the scrapped draft and the new book have different plots, with altered character backgrounds and roles, their souls remain unchanged. That is to say, the core personalities of the characters in the new book and the scrapped draft wouldn’t differ much.”
“But during my first rebirth, the Wen Huiyun in the new book was completely different from the person I knew.”
“Until you appeared. You’re the one who resembles the Wen Huiyun I once knew.”
Jiang Yining furrowed her brows and grasped Wen Huiyun’s hand.
“Wen Huiyun, I must put an end to my obsession.”
Find the culprit behind the imitation bullet, destroy Emerald City, and repay a lifetime’s worth of lives.
“I believe the system arranged for your reappearance as a clue fate has given me.”
Jiang Yining tightened her grip on Wen Huiyun’s hand.
“Wen Huiyun, you must have crossed into this book because of an obsession. The entire Virtual Transmigration Bureau operates by absorbing spiritual energy, and extreme emotional obsessions are the system’s greatest source of power.”
“The system won’t give you benefits for free it will exploit you with endless tasks. To reclaim your soul and freedom, you must clarify your true self.”
“Huiyun, join me in uncovering the truth and ending this obsession.”
Jiang Yining’s gaze burned with determination, her expression resolute.
Wen Huiyun was still bewildered.
Jiang Yining said the character with the same name resembled her.
But what did that matter?
Join forces? What could she do?
Even if Wen Huiyun had an obsession with clearing her name, that was from the real world. How could she investigate it in a book? It was impossible.
Wen Huiyun had already passed away in the real world, and the character sharing her name in the scrapped draft had completed her storyline there. The two were entirely unrelated.
Wen Huiyun’s transmigration task was to raise Ye Zhuoyan’s affection. She had succeeded, and Ye Zhuoyan was willing to maintain their marriage.
She had a wife, her life was secure, and she could live happily ever after with her beloved. 0.0
She was just an insignificant transmigrator who wanted to protect her wife and her happy life nothing more.
Wen Huiyun smiled faintly and replied to Jiang Yining:
“I’m just a transmigrator, and what you’re saying is too complicated for me to understand. I have my own tasks, and I just want to complete them and live peacefully. Yining, you’re my most important companion now, and I’ll do my best to help you.”
Jiang Yining remained composed and nodded:
“Very well. The investigation is too dangerous, and I’d feel terrible if anything happened to you. But as a fellow host, I must warn you.”
Xiao Xi tried to stop her. “Ning, don’t say too much.”
Ignoring the system sprite, Jiang Yining said to Wen Huiyun, “Don’t think the system is a good thing.”
Wen Huiyun pondered for a moment before asking, “About the scrapped draft, I have one more question. May I?”
“Of course.”
Wen Huiyun hesitated, then spoke: “After the childhood friend ‘A’ with the same name as me was imprisoned, what happened to the female lead Omega?”
Instinct told Wen Huiyun that the female lead Omega in the scrapped draft was Ye Zhuoyan, sharing the same soul.
Jiang Yining parted her lips and began recounting the story.
Wen Huiyun listened, biting her lip as tears welled in her eyes.
*
For their third date, Wen Huiyun chose Ye Zhuoyan, but Ye Zhuoyan rejected her and picked Cheng Xiaoming instead.
While still on her date in the water town, Ye Zhuoyan sent Wen Huiyun a message, saying she would explain in person.
Wen Huiyun had been waiting.
Now, nestled in Ye Zhuoyan’s arms, Wen Huiyun twirled a strand of her hair and playfully lifted her chin.
“Why did you reject me? Can you make it up to me?”
Ye Zhuoyan caressed Wen Huiyun’s cheek, her thumb gently rubbing the tip of her chin as she smiled. “Shall I make it up to you in my room?”
Mi Tao was out on a date, leaving the house empty perfect timing.
Wen Huiyun wrapped her fingers around Ye Zhuoyan’s hand. “I’ll listen to whatever you say.”
They went upstairs.
Entered the room.
Locked the door.
“I’ve missed you so much. Don’t push me away again.”
Her voice was slightly hoarse.
The faint rustling of fabric brushing against skin.
“Wait a moment!” Warm breath brushed against her neck as two arms encircled her waist from behind. Ye Zhuoyan pressed her legs together, gripping Wen Huiyun’s shirt as she lost control and fell back into the warm embrace.
Wen Huiyun rested her chin on Ye Zhuoyan’s shoulder. The stiff collar around Ye Zhuoyan’s swan-like neck had already been unbuttoned, loosely pulled open and hanging off one shoulder, revealing a glimpse of her snow-white neck and shoulder.
Her nose was dangerously close to Ye Zhuoyan’s scent gland. The omega’s pheromones were intoxicatingly sweet, almost dizzying.
Somehow, Wen Huiyun had become increasingly sensitive to omegas. There were moments when restraint became even more difficult, and the more her willpower told her not to indulge, the more she wanted to surrender.
Perhaps it was because she’d spent too long in this transmigrated world her scent gland was gradually maturing.
“Wait! Huiyun, let go of me first.”
Ye Zhuoyan let out a soft whimper.
