Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 95
Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue drew white radishes for their task.
The production team gave each of them a woven straw basket to carry on their backs: “You need to bring back forty white radishes.”
Ning Xi: “…Are you sure it’s forty and not four?”
The staff member replied, “These radishes are grown by local farmers. Thirty-five radishes can be exchanged as payment for five radishes.”
Ning Xi asked, “There are only a few of us. One radish would be enough to eat. Can we bring back eight to exchange for one?”
Staff: “Teacher Ning, the task requirements can’t be changed. It’s the same for all groups.”
Ning Xi: “…”
Wei Nian and Wang You had to exchange five large cabbages for one cabbage. Wei Xinran and Shen Runxin needed thirty-five potatoes for five potatoes. Sun Qize and Zhou Jianbai had to trade a basket of green peppers (palm-sized basket) for three peppers.
White radishes, being high in water content, were the heaviest—potatoes couldn’t even compare.
Ning Xi glanced at the straw basket on Yu Qingxue’s back. It could hold about twenty radishes at most. Yu Qingxue wasn’t physically strong, so Ning Xi would have to make two trips herself. Even if Yu Qingxue did nothing, the rules required her to stay by Ning Xi’s side.
“The map shows the radishes are planted halfway up the mountain. Are you sure you can manage?” Ning Xi asked.
If the rule about couples staying together didn’t exist, Ning Xi wouldn’t be so conflicted.
After differentiating into an alpha, her stamina had significantly improved. Climbing mountains and carrying heavy loads were no issue.
Her only concern was whether Yu Qingxue could handle going up and down the mountain twice.
To her surprise, Yu Qingxue said, “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
Yu Qingxue was currently caught up in the excitement of digging radishes for the first time, completely forgetting her usual physically weak persona. Confidently, she led the way out of the living room. “Let’s go, the sooner we finish, the sooner we can rest.”
Ning Xi shook her head with a helpless smile, watching her retreating figure with fondness. She murmured, “So confident now, but I wonder if you’ll be crying later.”
Ning Xi quickly caught up to Yu Qingxue and gently smoothed the stray hairs at her back.
Yu Qingxue glanced back at her, lips curving into a soft smile.
Leaving the courtyard of the love cottage, the two set off toward the radish field.
“The map says the radish field is halfway up the mountain, about thirty meters vertically from the base, with roughly a hundred steps,” Ning Xi reminded Yu Qingxue.
Yu Qingxue had already spotted the mountain path and didn’t dwell on Ning Xi’s words. She walked straight to the steps and turned to urge, “Ning Xi, hurry up. Why are you walking so slowly today? You’re not like this on set.”
Ning Xi approached, looking up at the uneven steps. “Teacher Yu, are you really okay? If not, I can carry you up.”
“No need.” Yu Qingxue’s ears turned slightly pink as she turned and started up the steps. “I’m not some delicate omega.”
Ning Xi quickly followed, staying less than a meter behind her, eyes fixed on her back.
At the slightest sign of fatigue, Ning Xi would notice immediately.
Yet by the time they climbed all hundred steps and reached the radish field halfway up the mountain, Yu Qingxue showed no signs of exhaustion her face wasn’t flushed, her breathing wasn’t labored, and her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
Ning Xi was puzzled. How could someone who usually grew weak after a few steps today seem to have boundless energy?
Yu Qingxue set down the woven grass basket behind her and stepped into the field to start pulling radishes.
The black soil revealed vibrant green leaves and a small section of white radish peeking through. Although it was already December, the temperature hadn’t dropped below freezing yet.
A light rain had fallen the day before, leaving the soil soft and workable.
Yu Qingxue bent down, applying a bit of force, snap, the white radish broke in two. The sudden release sent her stumbling backward from the momentum.
Just as she was about to lose her balance, Ning Xi dashed forward, wrapping an arm around Yu Qingxue’s slender waist to steady her.
Leaning against Ning Xi, Yu Qingxue’s breath came quick from the scare, a faint blush spreading across her pale cheeks.
“You startled me, I thought I was going to fall. Thank you, Ning Xi.” She pushed away with practiced restraint.
Ning Xi picked up the two broken halves of the radish, examined them, then placed them in her own woven basket. “White radishes are juicy and prone to splitting. You have to pull gently and steadily, no rushing.”
She then demonstrated the proper technique.
Yu Qingxue watched curiously, observing the flawless radish Ning Xi pulled up. Confident she’d mastered the method, she declared, “Let me try again.”
It was the first time Ning Xi had seen her so eager about manual labor. She stood by, watching as Yu Qingxue attempted her second radish.
This time, she succeeded in pulling it out whole. Holding it up triumphantly, she asked, “Isn’t this bigger than the one you just pulled?”
Ning Xi chuckled. “Yes, a whole size larger. Teacher Yu is amazing.”
A smug glint flashed in Yu Qingxue’s eyes. “Let’s have a competition—see who can pull them faster and better. Twenty radishes each.”
Ning Xi: “…” With your stamina, you’d be lucky to manage two—and now you want to race me?
But Ning Xi was quickly proven wrong.
Yu Qingxue’s endurance was almost alpha-like. In no time, ten plump white radishes filled her basket.
“Need a break?” Ning Xi walked over to ask.
“I’m fine,” Yu Qingxue replied.
Not a single drop of sweat dotted her smooth forehead.
Ning Xi grew increasingly puzzled. She stepped closer, covering both their microphones as she whispered in concern, “Yu Qingxue, why are you so energetic today? Did your suppressants fail?”
Yu Qingxue hesitated. “My stamina…”
After three words, she caught herself and smoothly pivoted. “Of course my stamina isn’t normally this good. It’s just because I’m in heat. Even with suppressants, the physical excitement doesn’t fade—adrenaline keeps fatigue at bay.”
“Oh, that makes sense.” Ning Xi nodded in understanding.
So that’s why Yu Qingxue suddenly has so much stamina.
Being in heat naturally boosted her energy. The suppressants only curbed pheromone production, they didn’t suppress the other physiological effects of arousal.
