Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 60
The next morning, Ning Xi got up early and went to the set alone.
Her scene with Yu Qingxue was scheduled for the afternoon, so Yu only needed to arrive by 2 p.m.
This worked out perfectly for Ning Xi. She wanted to test Jiang Yuanxin, but couldn’t do it in front of Yu Qingxue. Now she had the entire morning to engage with him.
Filming was set to begin at 8 o’clock. Ning Xi arrived at 6:30 to start her makeup.
Hair and costume took an hour. With thirty minutes still left before filming, Ning Xi walked around the set looking for Jiang Yuanxin, but she didn’t see him anywhere.
Ren Rong, noticing her, asked curiously, “Ms. Ning, are you looking for someone?”
She thought to herself that it probably wasn’t President Yu. Her scenes were in the afternoon.
Ning Xi’s dark eyes flashed slightly as she replied, “I’m looking for Director Jiang. I’d like to talk to him before we start filming.”
Ren Rong smiled and said, “Next time, you can just ask me. Director Jiang is in the lounge having breakfast with Screenwriter Yang. I just passed by and saw them.”
“Thank you. I’ll go check the lounge,” Ning Xi said politely.
Since Yang Huaigeng was still with Jiang Yuanxin, Ning Xi knew she couldn’t question Jiang directly. But she still needed to stop by, just in case Yang left. That would give her a chance to speak with Jiang privately.
Ning Xi turned to Ren Rong and said, “Take a break over there for a bit. I’ll talk to the director and come right back.”
Ren Rong picked up her little stool and went to rest where Ning Xi had been sitting.
Ning Xi, dressed in a black robe embroidered with dark gold patterns, walked toward the director’s lounge. Her long hair was tied high in a sleek ponytail.
Usually, her costume was a simple short black outfit. Today’s elegant ensemble made her look even more striking.
Her arched brows, dark red eyeshadow, pale skin, deep black pupils, and bright red lips gave her the appearance of a mystical and captivating spirit.
Crew members who thought they were used to her beauty stopped in their tracks when they saw her. They stared at her in awe, completely forgetting to walk. Only after she disappeared from sight did they snap out of their daze, blushing and quickly returning to work.
Ning Xi walked straight to the door of the director’s lounge.
Just as Ren Rong said, the door was wide open. Jiang Yuanxin and Yang Huaigeng were sitting inside eating breakfast.
“Director Jiang, Screenwriter Yang,” Ning Xi greeted them from the doorway.
Period costumes were heavy and cumbersome. To appear graceful, she had to keep her back straight at all times.
Ning Xi had a tall figure that perfectly supported the weight and grandeur of the robe. With her chin slightly lifted, she looked exactly like the demon sect leader Feng Yunyan.
When Jiang Yuanxin saw her, his heart skipped a beat. He gave a nervous laugh and asked, “Ning Xi, what brings you here?”
Yang Huaigeng’s eyes lit up with excitement.
No writer could resist seeing an actor fully embody their character. He waved her in warmly and said, “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come in and have something with us.”
Jiang Yuanxin glanced awkwardly at the plate of pan-fried buns in front of him and said, “I don’t think there’s enough. I haven’t even had my fill.”
He was trying to signal to Yang not to invite her to share.
Yang Huaigeng didn’t catch the hint at all and continued enthusiastically, “She can have mine. I’ll just have someone get me more later.”
Ning Xi smiled politely. The dramatic makeup gave her smile a unique charm. “Thank you, Screenwriter Yang, but I already had breakfast at the hotel.”
Yang Huaigeng looked a little disappointed. “The soup dumplings from this place are amazing. Next time, skip breakfast so I can treat you to some.”
“Don’t just stand there. Come sit down and rest a while,” Yang said, motioning for her to enter.
Jiang Yuanxin gave him a subtle glance. He thought to himself, this is my break room. Why is he so eager to invite her in? Is he worried I’ll give in if she starts asking questions?
Ning Xi walked in and sat next to Yang Huaigeng. She looked at Jiang Yuanxin and said, “Director Jiang, I need to talk to you about something.”
Yang asked, “Should I give you two some space? Never mind. I’ll just take my food back to my workspace.”
Without giving Ning Xi a chance to respond, Yang picked up his tray of soup dumplings and stood up. Before walking out, he turned and said, “Ning Xi, come visit me sometime. I’m always around.”
“Of course,” Ning Xi stood and smiled, watching him leave.
“Ning Xi,” Jiang Yuanxin said hesitantly, “I don’t know if I should say this. I’m afraid it might upset you and affect the filming. But if I don’t say it, it might affect your future.”
Ning Xi sat back down, smiling calmly. “It’s alright, Director. Please go ahead. I’m confident my performance won’t be affected.”
Jiang said quickly, “You came in and made Screenwriter Yang leave. That wasn’t very thoughtful. He might not say anything, but deep down, he could feel upset. You should find time to apologize to him.”
Ning Xi looked at him with calm dark eyes. “I don’t think he’s the type to hold grudges.”
“His good temper is his own. But in this industry, most screenwriters aren’t so forgiving. If you want to stay in entertainment, you need to understand how things work. If you’re ever unsure, ask Qingxue. She knows how to handle everything,” Jiang replied, deliberately avoiding giving her the chance to question him.
Ning Xi nodded. “Yes, President Yu does help me with many things. But there are some matters that only you can answer.”
Jiang Yuanxin was startled. “I already told you. The one who told me everything was Wang You. No one else said anything. There is no hidden truth. What I said is the truth.”
Ning Xi said, “You misunderstood, Director. That’s not what I came to ask.”
Instead of feeling relieved, Jiang Yuanxin looked even more on guard. “I’m busy filming and editing every day. I really don’t have time for other things. I’ll say this now. I might not know the answer.”
“I think that’s very likely,” Ning Xi agreed with a slight nod.
Jiang Yuanxin raised his eyebrows in curiosity. “Then what is it you want to ask?”
“I want to know if you knew that President Yu and Wang You were once in a romantic relationship,” Ning Xi asked calmly.
Jiang Yuanxin frowned. “In a relationship? What kind of relationship? You mean worked together?”
“I mean they dated,” Ning Xi clarified.
“That’s impossible,” Jiang replied immediately. His face turned serious. “You can’t say things like that. A romantic relationship between two Omegas is illegal.”
“Ning Xi, even if you’re jealous about how close Qingxue is with Wang You, you shouldn’t accuse them of something like that. If this spreads, they could face legal consequences.”
“…Director Jiang, did you just say I’m jealous?” Ning Xi asked.
Jiang replied, “Don’t deny it. When I was your age, I used to get jealous too. Anyone who got close to Lan Xia made me feel sour. You and Qingxue are very different. It makes sense that you’d feel uneasy seeing her and Wang You getting along. But what you said earlier must never be said to anyone else, especially not Qingxue. If she found out, she’d be heartbroken.”
“Could you really hurt someone who cares about you that much?”
Ning Xi suddenly felt like she must have heard him wrong. Her mind felt cloudy. “Director Jiang, the relationship between President Yu and me isn’t what you think.”
Jiang replied, “I’ve known Qingxue since we were kids. Do you think she could hide her relationship from me? I know you two are secretly dating. Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone.”
Ning Xi was left speechless.
“Director Jiang, please don’t mention this conversation to President Yu. I’m afraid she’ll be upset.”
“I won’t say anything. As long as you two are doing well, that’s enough,” Jiang replied.
Ning Xi walked away from the lounge in a state of shock. She wandered around the set, replaying the entire conversation in her head.
She had brought up the idea that Yu Qingxue and Wang You once dated as a way to test whether Jiang Yuanxin knew about it. She never expected what she uncovered instead.
Jiang Yuanxin believed that she and Yu Qingxue were in a relationship, and that it was Yu Qingxue herself who had told him.
Why would Yu Qingxue say something like that to Jiang Yuanxin?
Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue had only just become friends a few days ago. How had it suddenly turned into a romantic relationship?
As she walked, Ning Xi kept thinking about it. She could feel it. The truth was getting closer.
Next door, another production team was filming an idol drama. The lead actor was Lin Zhuoyan, the captain of Seven, a newly debuted male Omega idol group. A crowd of fans waited outside every day, hoping to catch a glimpse of their beloved star.
As Ning Xi passed by, Zhang Xiaofang, a fan of the group, happened to glance in her direction. The moment she saw Ning Xi, her hand trembled, and her camera went off uncontrollably. She snapped more than a dozen photos in a row.
Someone next to her nudged her and whispered, “What are you doing? He hasn’t even come out yet. What if you run out of storage?”
“I just saw the most stunning Alpha ever,” Zhang Xiaofang said breathlessly. “Suddenly, I don’t like Omegas anymore. I think I want to fall for an Alpha.”
“Seriously? Omegas are soft and sweet. Why would you prefer an Alpha?” the other girl asked in confusion.
“I’m not exaggerating,” Zhang Xiaofang said firmly, turning her camera around to show the pictures.
The girl gasped. “I totally understand now. I could fall for that Alpha too.”
Completely unaware that she had just converted a group of Beta fans into Alpha admirers, Ning Xi returned to her own set and began filming.
Jiang Yuanxin had worried that she might be emotionally distracted, but she performed just as well as always.
As long as Ning Xi stayed focused, there were almost never any issues with her acting.
Once filming wrapped for the morning, Jiang Yuanxin, still feeling uneasy, invited her to lunch in the director’s lounge.
“It’s completely normal to feel possessive toward someone you love,” he said gently. “There’s nothing wrong with you. And you really don’t need to worry about anything going on between Qingxue and Wang You.”
“I know them well. Even if they stood in front of you and claimed they were dating, I’d know it was fake. We’re that close. If anything were going on, I’d be the first to know.”
Ning Xi thought silently to herself that he clearly did not know everything. For example, he had no idea that Wang You had never liked Wei Nian.
Jiang Yuanxin then looked at her seriously. “Are you still going to deny your relationship with Qingxue?”
He stared at her closely. If she said no, he would immediately launch into another long speech to try and convince her.
Ning Xi hesitated, then said quietly, “I won’t deny it anymore.”
“You’re right, Director. Qingxue and I are together. It’s been a while. Everything I said before was just because I was jealous.”
After thinking it through, Ning Xi decided to accept the label of Yu Qingxue’s girlfriend, at least in front of Jiang Yuanxin. It was the only way to be seen as someone close to him. That would make it easier to ask him questions in the future.
Now she understood why Yu Qingxue had been so certain Jiang Yuanxin would gossip with her instead of someone else. It was because, in his eyes, she was his childhood friend’s girlfriend. That made her someone trusted.
Ning Xi looked at him seriously. “Director Jiang, I still mean what I said this morning. Please don’t mention our conversation to Qingxue. I’m really afraid she might get hurt. I love her deeply. If we argued or broke up over something like this, I wouldn’t be able to bear it. Without her, life wouldn’t mean anything to me.”
Jiang Yuanxin looked at her in shock. He never expected Ning Xi to be someone who took love so seriously, to the point of talking about life and death. He quickly tried to comfort her.
“Don’t think like that. Qingxue really likes you too. You probably don’t know this, but in private, she always talks about you like you’re her little sweetheart. You should see the way she smiles when she mentions you.”
“I know,” Ning Xi said softly. “She calls me her little one when we’re alone too.”
“Don’t worry, Director. As long as she doesn’t find out what we talked about today, I won’t feel upset. I still want to stay by her side for a very long time.”
Jiang Yuanxin nodded seriously. “I promise. I won’t tell a soul.”
With his reassurance, Ning Xi finally felt a bit more at ease.
After they finished eating, Yu Qingxue arrived at the set earlier than scheduled. Once she finished her makeup and got into costume, she came straight to the lounge, knowing Ning Xi was there.
She paused in front of the door and seemed surprised.
Jiang Yuanxin never had the habit of closing the door. It was always left open. Why was it closed today?
What had Ning Xi and Jiang Yuanxin been discussing that made them so cautious?
Yu Qingxue raised her hand and knocked. A moment later, footsteps sounded, and the door opened to reveal Ning Xi.
“Qingxue, are you here to see me?” Ning Xi asked with a smile.
Yu Qingxue met her gaze and felt her face grow warm. “Yes. I thought we could rehearse a little early.”
“Let’s go. Director Jiang is busy. We shouldn’t disturb him,” Ning Xi said, gently wrapping an arm around Yu Qingxue’s shoulders and leading her away.
Yu Qingxue stiffened for a second but then relaxed and did not pull away.
Ning Xi noticed and fell deep into thought.
Jiang Yuanxin watched the two of them leave with a satisfied expression. He felt proud of himself for successfully calming Ning Xi’s jealousy. He truly believed he had done something very meaningful.
What a shame he had promised Ning Xi not to tell Yu Qingxue. Otherwise, he could have claimed some credit and maybe even asked for a raise.
That afternoon, Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue filmed with the A team. Wei Nian and Wang You were scheduled with the B team.
After working together with Hu Xiaohan to drive away Dan Lian, Feng Yunyan’s relationship with Dong Lingxue had deepened. It was clear that Dong Lingxue had become more emotionally attached to her.
But to Feng Yunyan, it still was not enough.
Having grown up in the demon sect, her mind had long been shaped by twisted experiences.
At first, she had approached Dong Lingxue to investigate her past and to obtain the Jade Heart Sutra. But over time, she came to realize something else.
Dong Lingxue was pure, kind-hearted, and full of compassion. She could not bear to see injustice and always stepped in to do what was right.
People like her must have grown up under the loving care of their parents, safe and carefree. She had never known hardship or darkness. Her future would always be bright.
Feng Yunyan, by contrast, had grown up surrounded by cruelty. She had seen only the darkest sides of humanity and knew her own future could never be filled with light.
But why? Why did Dong Lingxue get to live a life of freedom and beauty, while she, as the daughter of the same mother, He Mengyan, had to live like a bug crawling through sewage?
Feng Yunyan was deeply jealous of Dong Lingxue.
Now, not only did she want to uncover the truth and obtain the Jade Heart Sutra, she also wanted to earn Dong Lingxue’s complete trust so that she could one day betray her without mercy.
She wanted to stain that pure and innocent soul with darkness and drag her into the abyss together.
“Scene thirty, one shot. Ready.”
“Action!”
Feng Yunyan and Dong Lingxue stood before the gates of a city. Dong Lingxue looked up and read the inscription on the gate.
“Lianxiang City.”
She turned to Feng Yunyan and said, “This city is very different from the others we passed. Here, people are ranked by the scent and quality of their pheromones. The more refined and high-grade the scent, the higher the status. High-status Alphas can mark lower-status Omegas freely. Likewise, high-status Omegas can command low-status Alphas to mark them. Everything here is dictated by pheromone rank.”
Feng Yunyan had never heard of such rules before. She was surprised and turned to ask, “What about Betas? They don’t have pheromones. How are they ranked?”
A sorrowful look appeared in Dong Lingxue’s eyes. “Betas are at the very bottom. They’re treated like slaves. People can beat them, insult them, or even kill them at will, regardless of their own pheromone class.”
“We have to pass through this city. If we take a detour, we might not make it to the Martial Arts Conference in time.”
