Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 44
Yu Qingxue’s slender fingers moved swiftly over the keyboard, sending out message after message.
Her fair skin took on a faint flush, her red lips curved gently, and the dimples on her snow-pale cheeks were as sweet as honey. Her eyes sparkled with joy.
Ning Xi couldn’t help but let her gaze settle on Yu Qingxue’s face.
She sighed inwardly. Yu Qingxue clearly had deep feelings for Wang You. Her expression while chatting was pure happiness, impossible to hide.
It was as if that usual aloof and cold exterior had never existed.
When they arrived at the set, Yu Qingxue had just finished chatting and put her phone away. She stepped off the van right behind Ning Xi.
“President Yu, the shuttle bus is here,” Ning Xi said, spotting the large vehicle approaching from a distance. “Should we wait for Wang You?”
Yu Qingxue gave a slight nod. In public, she acted particularly reserved whenever Wang You was mentioned, completely different from how she had been while texting in the van.
“Alright.”
Ning Xi found herself impressed by Yu Qingxue’s acting skills. To suppress her emotions this well was not something every actor could do.
The shuttle pulled up and stopped nearby.
Actors filed off the bus one after another, hurrying toward the set, none of them noticing Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue standing ahead.
“Wang You is getting off,” Yu Qingxue said quietly.
Ning Xi looked over and saw that only Wang You and Jiang Yuanxin were left on the bus. Wang You followed behind him, stepping off slowly.
“President Yu, does Director Jiang know about this?” Ning Xi asked.
Yu Qingxue shook her head lightly. “We didn’t want to trouble him. Neither of us told him.”
So Jiang Yuanxin couldn’t find out.
“I understand,” Ning Xi replied, then raised her hand and called out, “Director Jiang, Wang You!”
Both of them turned. Ning Xi noticed that the moment Wang You saw Yu Qingxue, a complex emotion flickered in her eyes.
Beside her, Yu Qingxue kept her gaze solely on Jiang Yuanxin, not sparing a glance at Wang You.
Wang You noticed. Her expression turned faintly resentful.
Ning Xi thought to herself that love really was a complicated, troublesome thing better left untouched.
“President Yu, let’s go over and walk with them,” she suggested.
Only then did Yu Qingxue glance at Wang You. “Alright.”
As the two approached, Wang You’s eyes grew more and more sorrowful.
“Ning Xi, you seem to be in a great mood today. Something good happen?” Jiang Yuanxin asked with a smile.
“Something good did happen, but I can’t tell you about it,” she answered with a grin. After all, she was this close to becoming Yu Qingxue’s closest friend. That wasn’t just good news—it was amazing.
Ning Xi took Jiang Yuanxin by the arm and walked ahead, leaving Yu Qingxue and Wang You to naturally fall into step together.
“Yuyou, did you sleep well last night?” Yu Qingxue asked gently.
Wang You widened her eyes in shock, as if startled by the question. Goosebumps spread down her arms.
Yu Qingxue gave her a meaningful look, prompting her to respond. Wang You pursed her lips, then reluctantly replied in a flat tone, “It was okay.”
Yu Qingxue frowned slightly. Just as she began to worry that Wang You’s lackluster performance might make Ning Xi suspicious, Wang You added quietly, “I couldn’t sleep well without you there.”
The corners of Yu Qingxue’s lips lifted in a smile. Her voice turned sweet. “Me too.”
Wang You shivered again, her eyes silently begging her to stop.
While chatting with Jiang Yuanxin, Ning Xi kept an ear tuned to what was happening behind her.
When she heard Yu Qingxue’s unusually tender, honey-sweet voice, she couldn’t help but glance back.
Yu Qingxue was smiling brightly, her eyes glowing.
Ning Xi should have been happy for her, but for some reason, an odd feeling rose in her chest.
…
After the morning shoot, they had a one-and-a-half-hour lunch break. The production had ordered fruit salads and stir-fry for the leads. Ning Xi usually ate in the van with Yu Qingxue.
This time, she went out of her way to invite Wang You to join them.
But Yu Qingxue had already messaged Wang You earlier, telling her not to interrupt her private lunch with Ning Xi.
When Wang You received the invitation, she looked troubled and replied, “I have something to take care of at lunch. It’s not convenient.”
Ning Xi hadn’t expected her to refuse. She paused, then said, “Alright.”
As she walked toward the van, she hesitated. She wasn’t sure how to explain Wang You’s absence to Yu Qingxue.
What could be more important than having lunch with her?
Wang You: This is all Yu Qingxue’s doing. Ask her!
Inside the van, the small table had already been set. Yu Qingxue had arranged the food neatly. Through the window, she saw Ning Xi pacing back and forth outside, clearly hesitant to come in.
Unable to hold back, Yu Qingxue walked to the door and called out, “Ning Xi, the food’s going to get cold if you don’t come in.”
Ning Xi turned at the sound of her voice.
“President Yu, Wang You had something come up. So, it’s just the two of us having lunch today.”
Yu Qingxue’s radiant expression dimmed in an instant.
“Alright, I got it,” she said softly.
“Forget her. She’s always busy with something or other. I don’t even know what she’s doing half the time.”
Ning Xi got into the van and noticed that Yu Qingxue didn’t seem to be in a good mood. She tried her best to cheer her up, feeling a little frustrated with Wang You.
“President Yu, I picked out all your favorite dishes. You should eat more,” Ning Xi said as she placed a slice of spicy boiled beef into Yu Qingxue’s bowl.
Yu Qingxue forced a smile and chewed the meat slowly, without much taste.
“It’s very good. Thank you.”
Ning Xi wished she could drag Wang You over and make her sit down to have lunch with Yu Qingxue properly.
“Oh right, President Yu. I just looked up that hot spring hotel you mentioned. The online reviews are really great. They have both private and public baths. How about I book two adjacent private ones?”
“Sounds good. Which numbers did you reserve?”
Yu Qingxue had been there a few times and knew that the private baths were only separated by thin curtains, not solid walls. That meant anything they said could be heard clearly between the rooms.
“Rooms five and six.”
Yu Qingxue pulled out her phone and opened a chat with the owner of the hot spring resort.
Yu Qingxue: How’s business today?
Xiao Wen: It’s still warm since it’s only autumn. Not many guests at all. I just sold two private bath tickets online. Want to book the whole place again? I can cancel those two for you.
Yu Qingxue: Book the whole place, but don’t cancel those two. They were bought by a friend of mine.
Yu Qingxue: [sent a transfer]
Xiao Wen: Thank you, President Yu, for supporting my business!
After finishing the booking and putting her phone away, Yu Qingxue remained quiet.
Noticing her expression, Ning Xi hesitated for a moment before asking gently, “President Yu, would you like to invite Wang You too?”
Yu Qingxue frowned slightly, clearly displeased.
“I just asked her. She said she’s too tired and wants to rest early tonight.”
Ning Xi didn’t know how to respond.
What was wrong with Wang You? With someone as perfect as Yu Qingxue as her girlfriend, how could she constantly be too busy to spend time with her?
Even Ning Xi had more filming scenes than Wang You and didn’t feel this tired. How exhausted could she possibly be, that she couldn’t even spare time for a hot spring with Yu Qingxue?
“Forget it. It was our bet from the beginning anyway,” Yu Qingxue said, pretending not to care.
“She’s always saying she doesn’t have time. I’m used to it by now. Sometimes, being alone doesn’t feel so bad.”
Ning Xi’s heart ached. She picked out a few slices of tender beef and placed them into Yu Qingxue’s bowl.
“President Yu, you still have two scenes this afternoon. Eat more and build up your energy.”
Yu Qingxue finished all the beef Ning Xi had given her and nodded in agreement.
“You’re right. I really should build up my energy.”
After all, soaking in a hot spring takes effort too.
