Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 115
Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue came to the Yu family’s residence for filming, and no one was happier than Yu’s mother. Knowing the news in advance, she had the garden flowers trimmed early, arranged a thorough cleaning of the house, and even prepared a room for Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue.
The room was decorated with bright red double happiness characters. When Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue arrived at the Yu household the night before, they exchanged glances upon seeing it, nearly at a loss for words.
Yu Qingxue said, “Mom, we’re not married yet. Even if you prepare a room, we can’t sleep together. And these double happiness signs, mandarin duck bedding—they’re really not suitable for filming.”
Upon hearing this, Yu’s mother’s first reaction was to ask Ning Xi, “What do you think, Xi Xi?”
Seeing the anticipation in Yu’s mother’s eyes, Ning Xi smiled and replied, “Auntie, I think this room can stay. Qingxue and I will probably need it soon. But we should be cautious for the show after all, we’re public figures.”
Yu’s mother immediately beamed with joy. “Alright, we’ll do as Xi Xi says. We’ll keep this room and lock it during filming. I’ll have two separate rooms prepared for you.”
After Yu’s mother left, Yu Qingxue gave Ning Xi a thumbs-up. “You really know how to handle my mom.”
Ning Xi shrugged. “Maybe it’s because she knows how much I love you, so she loves me by extension?”
Yu Qingxue couldn’t help but throw herself into Ning Xi’s arms, wrapping her arms around her neck and standing on tiptoe to plant a kiss. “I love hearing you say things like that.”
“Then I’ll say them to you for a lifetime,” Ning Xi replied affectionately, returning the kiss.
Ning Xi had visited the Yu household the previous week and met Yu Qingxue’s father, Yu Zhangyuan. Though stern on the surface, Yu Zhangyuan treated Ning Xi with unexpected gentleness, much to Yu Qingxue’s astonishment.
Yu Zhangyuan had been a prodigy since childhood, with pride etched into his bones. To outsiders, he was usually polite but distant. Though he adored his daughter, he was also strict with her. This was the first time Yu Qingxue had seen him treat someone so warmly.
That night, Yu Qingxue asked her father why. Yu Zhangyuan claimed it was gratitude for Ning Xi winning over his daughter, who had always been reluctant to date. But Yu Qingxue knew he was just giving her a perfunctory answer, Yu Zhangyuan was tight-lipped, and she couldn’t pry any real explanation from him.
As the two sat in the living room, Yu Zhangyuan soon descended the stairs.
Yu Qingxue asked, “Dad, filming starts tomorrow. Do you mind appearing on camera?”
Yu Zhangyuan gave her a cool glance. “Would it matter if I did? You’ve already agreed to the filming.”
Yu Qingxue grinned. “Thanks, Dad~”
“Hmm.”
Yu Zhangyuan’s gaze shifted to Ning Xi, his expression softening. “How have you been, Xi Xi? Is school tiring?”
Ning Xi quickly replied, “Uncle, I’m not tired at all.”
Yu Zhangyuan’s quiet warmth was entirely different from his wife’s exuberant affection. While Ning Xi could handle Yu’s mother with ease, she felt somewhat restrained in Yu Zhangyuan’s presence.
“Good. Then come play a game of Go with me,” Yu Zhangyuan said, sitting cross-legged at the Go board nearby.
Yu Qingxue looked surprised. “Ning Xi, do you know how to play Go?” She didn’t even know this how did her father?
Ning Xi frowned slightly. “I’ve never learned. Why would Uncle think I can play Go?”
Yu Qingsue looked at Ning Xi with sympathy. “My dad is really good at Go. If you play against him, you’ll definitely get crushed.”
Ning Xi asked, “Should I just tell him I don’t know how to play?”
Yu Qingsue was about to say she could help a little, but her mother suddenly called her to the kitchen. Giving Ning Xi a “good luck” look, she turned to join her mother.
Ning Xi calmly sat across from Yu Zhangyuan, trying to recall what she knew about Go. Tentatively, she said, “Uncle, shall we nigiri?”
A glint of surprise flashed in Yu Zhangyuan’s eyes as he smiled. “Do you know my Go level?”
Ning Xi shook her head. “Actually, I don’t know how to play. I only know about nigiri from Go-related movies and shows.”
Yu Zhangyuan frowned, looking even more surprised. “You really don’t know at all?”
Not missing the faint confusion in his eyes, Ning Xi paused before saying earnestly, “Uncle, the orphanage didn’t have the resources for learning Go. I—”
“What orphanage?” Yu Zhangyuan interrupted.
Ning Xi blinked slowly, her thick lashes fluttering slightly. “Uncle, I’m an orphan. I grew up in a welfare institution.”
She watched as Yu Zhangyuan’s expression changed instantly.
The warmth and kindness visibly cooled as he stood up, his tone carrying a hint of arrogance. “I have matters to attend to. You can entertain yourself.” With that, he strode away.
Ning Xi watched his retreating figure disappear up the stairs, puzzled by his sudden change in demeanor.
“Ning Xi, why are you alone here? Where’s Dad?” Yu Qingsue’s voice pulled her from her thoughts.
Looking up naturally, Ning Xi smiled, her dark eyes warm. “Uncle suddenly remembered something and went upstairs.” She extended her hand. “Want to play a game with me instead?”
Yu Qingsue hesitated before placing her hand in Ning Xi’s. “I’m nowhere near as good as Dad, but beating a beginner like you should be easy.”
Ning Xi gave her fingers a light squeeze before letting go. Yu Qingsue sat across from her.
They naturally proceeded with nigiri, Yu Qingsue took black and made the first move, followed by Ning Xi.
Yu Qingsue’s pale fingers held the smooth black stone elegantly as she looked up, her light eyes fixed on Ning Xi. “What did you talk about with Dad earlier?”
Knowing her father’s temperament, even if he disliked Ning Xi, he wouldn’t leave her alone like that unless something had happened.
Ning Xi chuckled. “I knew I couldn’t hide it from you.”
She recounted Yu Zhangyuan’s reaction upon learning she was an orphan. “Come to think of it, I never clearly explained my background last time.”
During her previous visit, Yu Zhangyuan had been very kind, steering most of their conversations while Ning Xi played along there’d been no chance to mention her circumstances.
Yu Qingsue frowned. “Could Dad have mistaken you for someone else?”
