- Chapter 55 - Senior Sister Is Touching Me
Ji Weining reached out and tugged at Su Jin’an’s outer robe.
[Favorability Progress: 80%.]
The divine oracle, silent for so long, had suddenly surged to such a high value this time.
Was it a mistake?
Her hands didn’t stop moving. As she pulled open the outer robe, the not-yet-dried bloodstains threatened to drip down. Su Jin’an’s protective robes had long been damaged in the secret realm, and what remained were the arrays destroyed by her blade.
“Junior Sister, this blade of yours is truly sharp,” Ji Weining remarked, noting how it had managed to ruin so many protective robes.
“It was given to me by that artifact refiner.”
That explained it.
Ji Weining held her outer robe and looked at her, a sense of helplessness washing over her heart. Most of the time, she truly didn’t know what to do with her.
Continuing downward, she removed Su Jin’an’s inner garments. The wound Su Jin’an had inflicted upon herself still glowed with a reddish-pink hue, leaving a deep scar.
“Does it hurt?” Ji Weining asked, her gaze fixed on the scar as she reached out to gently touch it.
Su Jin’an shook her head. “Didn’t Senior Sister cast a pain-numbing spell on me right away?”
Ji Weining’s first instinct had indeed been to spare her the pain, but the spell didn’t eliminate all sensation, only the pain within the wound’s vicinity. Ji Weining bent down and continued to trace the uneven surface of the scar.
“It’ll be fine, Senior Sister. Don’t worry,” Su Jin’an reassured her, stroking Ji Weining’s head, which was nestled against her waist.
Ji Weining leaned in and licked the wound. As her tongue made contact, Su Jin’an instinctively flinched backward.
“I… I…” Ji Weining didn’t know why she had felt the urge to lick it. Perhaps she’d once heard that saliva could help wounds heal? Her body’s reaction had left her mind struggling to explain.
Su Jin’an only felt the absence of pain; her sense of touch remained intact.
She didn’t find it strange, merely commenting, “It’s a little ticklish.”
Ji Weining froze for a long moment, then lifted her head to meet Su Jin’an’s eyes, finally managing to ask, “Does Junior Sister mind?”
Su Jin’an cupped her face. “I don’t mind at all. I like it.”
That damp sensation, coming from the person before her, she liked it when she touched her. She couldn’t explain why, but she simply did.
Ji Weining fell into thought, her mind seemingly weighing something.
She lowered her gaze again to the scar on Su Jin’an’s chest. It was deep, reaching all the way to her heart. If not caused by some accident, it must have been left behind by drawing heart’s blood. Yet Su Jin’an claimed to have no memory of it, and her family insisted she’d been born with it?
A scar like that must have been excruciating. Ji Weining buried her face in the wound again, surrounded by the softness of Su Jin’an’s skin, the scar standing out starkly on her chest.
She bit down gently, then looked up and asked, “Do you like this?”
“I like it,” Su Jin’an replied, her hands resting on Ji Weining’s shoulders as she lowered her head to nuzzle against the top of hers.
Su Jin’an studied the wound. The skin around it was different from the surrounding tissue, and the scar itself was unlike any other.
Ji Weining felt a pang of sorrow in her chest. After a long while, she suddenly released Su Jin’an and brought out the new clothes she had bought for her. “But let’s get you dressed first.”
Su Jin’an clutched the garment, her eyes downcast, still reluctant about the sudden withdrawal. “I can actually dress myself.”
“You’re injured this badly and still want to dress yourself?” Ji Weining’s mood soured again. She didn’t understand what Su Jin’an was thinking, why she no longer wanted her help. All she knew was that she felt deeply unhappy now.
Su Jin’an looked up at her, sensing her displeasure. “Then, will you help me put it on, Senior Sister?”
“Of course.” Ji Weining unfolded the clothes and helped her into them, changing everything from the inside out.
Su Jin’an tugged at the hem of her sleeve, still lingering in the afterglow of the moment. “If you like, Senior Sister, I can try more. That was just my body’s instinctive reaction.”
“I know.”
Her entire body was extremely sensitive; even the lightest touch could leave red marks. Ji Weining truly didn’t know what to do with her wanting to tease her but unable to bear the thought of hurting her.
“Weining Senior Sister.”
Someone was knocking at the door. Ji Weining recognized it as Su Jia.
“Su Jia is here,” Su Jin’an reminded her.
Only then did Ji Weining release Su Jin’an and head outside, pulling the door open and stepping out.
“Is Junior Sister Jin’an alright?”
Su Jia and the others had only seen Su Jin’an covered in blood and didn’t know how she was doing now. If her spiritual veins were unharmed, nourishing them with spiritual energy would speed up her recovery. But if her spiritual veins were injured, that would be a serious problem.
Behind Su Jia was Liu Xiling.
“I’m fine now,” Su Jin’an murmured softly, making her presence known to everyone.
“Are you really alright?” Liu Xiling had also seen her blood-soaked state earlier and was somewhat worried.
“She’s fine,” Ji Weining said, taking the items from their hands and preparing to send them off. Then she remembered the question her junior sister had asked her to inquire about. “By the way, I wanted to ask about my junior sister’s ranking.”
“Junior Sister Jin’an placed fourth, just behind Ding Yun and Zhao Mu.”
“But the sect leader said all of them will be allowed to participate.”
“Good.”
Zhao Xi had mentioned this matter before. Ji Weining hadn’t expected the sect leader to actually get everyone to agree to the proposal.
“How is Zhao Xi?”
As Ji Weining was leaving, she faintly overheard their conversation.
“Senior Sister, you know that Zhao Xi and Zhao Mu are twin flowers. Now Zhao Xi has returned to her original form, and the sect leader has gone to ask Ding Yun about it.”
“This is her trial,” Liu Xiling added, knowing a bit about the situation.
A trial? Ji Weining had also heard some rumors about Zhao Xi. Those fortune-tellers were just too mysterious.
“She’ll be fine, Senior Sister. No need to worry.”
“Good, that’s good.” Their matters were for the sect leader to handle; she didn’t particularly care to interfere.
Finally, Su Jia said to her, “The day after tomorrow is the time to enter the Thousand Spirit Cave. Please remember to bring Junior Sister Jin’an with you.”
“Alright.”
Ji Weining returned to the room to find Su Jin’an still sitting motionless by the bed.
“You heard everything. Are you reassured now?” Ji Weining sat down beside her, took her hand, and channeled a stream of spiritual energy into her palm to check her spiritual veins. Relieved to find no damage, she felt somewhat at ease.
The purpose of the competition was just to select some people.”
“Now you can rest early.”
Ji Weining pulled the quilt over her, helping her lie down by supporting her shoulders.
Su Jin’an lowered her eyes slightly, drowsily replying, “Alright.”
“Senior sister should also get some rest soon.”
“I’ll be there in a moment. I’ll apply some more scar-removing ointment for you later.”
“Alright.” Ji Weining bent down and gently kissed the side of her ear.
Ji Weining went to the medicine room to fetch some herbs. She lightly pounded them with a mortar and then ground them into a paste.
She placed the medicine into a small jar and brought it to her nose for a faint sniff.
“This is it.” Perfect for treating scars.
After examining the items Su Jia had given her all medicines for replenishing spiritual energy she looked in the mirror. It turned out she had used too much of her spiritual power, making her complexion appear poor, though the spiritual energy within her was still abundant. She had simply been too worried about her junior sister.
When she re-entered the room, Su Jin’an was already resting.
How did those scars on junior sister’s wounds come about?
Ji Weining tried to ask the divine oracle.
[Unknown.]
The divine oracle remained as unhelpful as ever.
[What will happen after success?]
[Unknown.]
No matter what she asked, the response was the same.
In her struggle with the divine oracle, Ji Weining had failed once again.
Pulling open Su Jin’an’s clothes once more, she carefully examined the two scars. The scars lay upon flawless jade-like skin, yet they did not appear as flaws. Instead, they seemed like marks unique to this piece of jade. Perhaps it was because the jade was too beautiful that she felt this way.
Both scars were caused by blades. The one over the heart bore some resemblance to her own. As she thought this, Ji Weining also opened her own clothes to take a closer look. Indeed, they were similar, except hers seemed to have been self-inflicted, with the blade cut horizontally, while her junior sister’s was vertical, as if someone else had cut her.
After staring for a long time, Ji Weining adjusted her own clothes and began applying the ointment to Su Jin’an’s scars.
Unintentionally, her fingers kept brushing against that softness. Her ears flushed red involuntarily, and even the air felt stiflingly warm. By the time she finished applying the ointment to both wounds, Ji Weining’s back was drenched in sweat.
How embarrassing. Truly, utterly embarrassing.
She never thought she would become this nervous just applying medicine for her junior sister.
“Has senior sister finished applying the medicine?” Su Jin’an, who should have been asleep with her even breathing, opened her eyes.
“Ah?” The ointment in Ji Weining’s hand slipped and fell with a clatter.
She coughed twice. “Mm.”
Su Jin’an propped herself up and sat, her eyes filled with laziness. Her clothes, still not properly fastened, were in disarray.
“Why did junior sister wake up?” Ji Weining replied, feigning calmness, though her mind was racing with thoughts she felt she couldn’t let her junior sister know.
The person before her said lightly, “I felt senior sister touching me.”
Ji Weining answered firmly, “Yes, I was applying medicine for you!”
She had said so earlier, and it was true, she had only been applying medicine.
“Wasn’t senior sister using her hands to apply it?” Su Jin’an’s eyes were pure and innocent, in stark contrast to the turmoil in Ji Weining’s own heart.
“Yes.” There was nothing wrong with what she said, she had indeed used her hands to apply the medicine.
Perfectly proper!
“Then why are senior sister’s ears red too?”
Su Jin’an stood up and moved closer to Ji Weining, touching her ear. “And a little warm.”
“Is senior sister ill?”
“Don’t you know how I am, junior sister?!” Ji Weining could only scream inwardly. Her junior sister was becoming bolder and even seemed intent on teasing her now.
Ji Weining wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer, then gave a firm push, sending her junior sister tumbling onto the bed. In an instant, her robes were disheveled again from the movement. Not daring to get too close, Ji Weining braced herself against the bed, keeping her distance.
But the other girl murmured, “Senior Sister, your touch feels so good. Keep going, please.”
“Is this all you want?”
Ji Weining let out an exasperated laugh.
She had intended to let her rest after seeing her earlier state, but now it seemed her junior sister had no intention of resting.
“The pain will return once the spell wears off. Don’t push yourself,” Ji Weining said helplessly.
As she lifted her gaze, she met Su Jin’an’s pitiful expression. Su Jin’an tugged at the fabric around her own waist and leaned closer. “Then just a little touch, a little touch will make it better.”
