Dr. Chi’s Mission: Seduce Officer Su - Chapter 26
Chi Jue didn’t linger long in the parking garage but went straight home via the elevator.
All the stopping and starting, all the baiting along the way, was just to lure Su Qiao into being alone with her at home.
Perhaps this was a new twist on the old tactic of playing hard to get, at least, it seemed quite effective on that silly little “bear.”
Leaning against the door, she waited quietly for Su Qiao’s arrival. Her phone screen was fixed on the stopwatch page, probably thinking it would make time pass faster, but in reality, it made every second feel like an eternity.
Unable to contain her anticipation, she pressed her ear against the door, straining to catch any sound from the hallway.
The faint rustle of footsteps made her break into a smile. She rehearsed what she would say once they met, but after waiting a while, there was still no knock at the door.
Now, it was Dr. Chi’s turn to grow anxious in the quiet solitude.
She leaned closer to the peephole to get a clearer look and saw Little Bear Su standing dumbly in front of the door, one hand raised as if about to knock, yet it refused to fall.
Confused, she couldn’t understand what that fool was hesitating about.
“Knock already!” she urged under her breath, afraid of being heard, and quickly covered her mouth with her hand.
In that moment, she was like a little girl yearning for all things beautiful, impatiently tearing through her cold facade, her innocent and lively emotions written plainly across her face.
Outside the door, Su Qiao silently took a step back. That fervent heart of hers, in a world of material privilege, was once again frosting over.
She had rushed all the way here, eagerly wanting to see Chi Jue, but now that she stood before the door, she found herself suppressing the tension rising in her throat, along with the budding sense of inferiority.
It wasn’t that she was reminded of the nightmare An Jiaqin had planted that night, but every time she came here, her insecurities seemed to find fertile ground, ready to run wild.
She took the squashed hamburger from the plastic bag tucked in her waistband and held it foolishly in her hands. Suddenly, she felt she was just like this burger, cheap and utterly devoid of substance.
She didn’t plan to slink away dejectedly; after all, this trip hadn’t been easy, and her main purpose was to offer a sincere apology.
But every time she spoke with Chi Jue, her words seemed to fail her, and she was afraid of upsetting her again. So, she decided to head to the stairwell to rehearse a bit.
She figured that even a crash course in sweet-talking counted as a skill, surely, if she could say the right things, Dr. Chi’s thunderous anger would subside.
Little did she know, the moment she disappeared from the peephole’s view, the figure hiding behind the door completely lost her composure, descending into a flustered panic.
Knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, knock! A clear, rhythmic knocking sound echoed in the quiet hallway.
Chi Jue, with her left hand half-clenched in a fist, knocked on the door three times, then three times more.
Her cheeks puffed out slightly, as if she were sulking but didn’t dare show it outright. Her gaze and tone were both thick with unspoken grievance. “Aren’t you a grown-up? Can’t you even knock on a door properly?”
Hearing the voice, Su Qiao turned around, her feet rooted to the spot. Clutching the hamburger nervously, she pressed her lips together, about to say something.
“Can you please not ignore me? At least tell me what I did wrong.” Chi Jue’s nose flushed red, her voice trembling with grievance, on the verge of tears.”
That innocence, paired with eyes so clear they seemed to shimmer with a faint glow, looked so fragile it stirred Su Qiao’s protective instincts, making her heart ache with pity.
Now even more flustered, she rushed to the door without a second thought. Her sturdy frame naturally pressed Chi Jue into the corner, leaving her hands with nowhere to rest but against the doorframe, an unintentional gesture that, against the backdrop of their recent conflict, evoked an intense intimacy.
Sometimes, reckless impulsiveness can be fatal. In that very moment, she unwittingly fell into the trap Chi Jue had set, like someone intoxicated by the poison of datura, lost in an illusion, unaware of the deadly fragrance.
Su Qiao gazed down at Chi Jue’s features from up close, her mind flooding with countless trivial yet burning questions.
For instance, why were Dr. Chi’s eyes as deep as an abyss, yet as dazzling as a galaxy?
How could her lips be so dewy, like roses kissed by morning dew?
How did she maintain her skin, so smooth and delicate it resembled fine mutton-fat jade?
And if she were to kiss her unexpectedly right now, would Chi Jue respond with fervor or deliver a sharp slap?
Perhaps all these questions were merely paving the way for that restless, budding desire to kiss her.
Those honeyed lips looked irresistibly sweet, like a layer of jelly glazing a mousse cake, tempting one to taste them with the tip of the tongue.
Gathering all her courage, Su Qiao unconsciously leaned in slowly, her timidity making her swallow nervously. A scorching desire slid down her throat, setting her entire being ablaze.
Chi Jue’s hands were clasped behind her back, her fingertips scraping lightly against the doorframe with a faint friction sound, a telltale sign of her nervousness.
Though this wasn’t her first time testing the waters before a kiss, the uncontrollable flutter in her heart still raced wildly. That sudden, stirring itch made her instinctively lift her chin, awaiting the sweet kiss.
The fragrance of laundry detergent intertwined with the scent of cedarwood, weaving an intoxicating pheromone-laden aura that clouded their reason. They greedily inhaled the mesmerizing scent, their breaths growing increasingly heavy and rapid.
But at the very moment their soft lips were about to meet, Su Qiao seized the last shred of her rationality. She turned her face away, burying it in the crook of Chi Jue’s neck. The intoxicating scent grew even stronger, and aside from taking repeated deep breaths, she refused to cross any further boundaries.
The intense, long-awaited kiss never came. Chi Jue felt a chill of emptiness on her lips, a fleeting moment of disappointment quickly replaced by the embrace that bore all of Su Qiao’s weight against her shoulder.
Sensing the anxiety in Su Qiao’s hold, Chi Jue reached out to soothingly stroke her back, hoping to dispel the fear of uncertainty. “Don’t be afraid,” she whispered. “I’ll always be here.”
How could Su Qiao not be afraid? With An Jiaqin’s heavily implied threats on one side and an inexplicable blind date candidate appearing out of nowhere on the other, she felt like a withered blade of grass trapped between two towering trees, small and utterly powerless.
Instinctively, she wrapped her arms tightly around Chi Jue’s waist, pulling her firmly into her embrace.
The sensation was extraordinarily wondrous. That delicate, slender frame in her arms radiated an astonishing sense of security, as if declaring that Su Qiao was the one who wholly possessed Chi Jue.
“I’m sorry,” murmured the voice buried in her neck, still soft and tender, like a plump marshmallow melting in the mouth.
Su Qiao’s apology melted Chi Jue’s heart into a puddle of tenderness. She affectionately ruffled the head that was still bowed in shame after admitting fault. “What exactly did you do wrong?”
Su Qiao pressed her forehead against Chi Jue’s and answered earnestly, “I shouldn’t have given you the cold shoulder for no reason.”
“Then why did you give me the cold shoulder out of nowhere?”
The question didn’t seem difficult to answer, it was the very root of their conflict.
As a doctor, Chi Jue believed in identifying the cause of an issue and treating it at its source.
Su Qiao hesitated, words caught in her throat, but in the end, she stubbornly refused to explain. She could only shake her head helplessly. “I didn’t want to trouble you with it. Anyway, I won’t do it again.”
Chi Jue was far too clever. Just from the phrase “didn’t want to trouble you”, she could tell that Su Qiao was grappling with something difficult to put into words.
A faint crease formed between her brows, but she didn’t press further. Instead, she changed the subject. “How do you plan to make it up to me?”
Chi Jue’s answer would have been a kiss, but she knew Su Qiao’s response would be anything but.
Though she longed for the wet, tangled intimacy of their tongues meeting, and even yearned for Su Qiao’s domineering side during moments of closeness, she preferred restrained romance.
Like when lips almost touching turned into a firm embrace, a sincere apology, or an open-hearted conversation, all of these were better than resolving conflicts with a kiss.
“I’ll write you an apology letter, the kind with a signature and a fingerprint.” Su Qiao declared.
True to form, her reply was formal, even comically meticulous.
Chi Jue didn’t say whether it was good or not. Instead, she buried her face in Su Qiao’s chest, pressing her ear against it to listen to the strong, steady heartbeat.
The rhythm was slightly off, chaotic, a clear sign of flustered excitement.
This fluster pleased her immensely. She put on her young lady airs and said with dignified pride, “Alright, I forgive you.””
Su Qiao’s face turned as red as an overripe tomato. “Really?” she whispered, seeking confirmation.
Chi Jue tapped a finger over Su Qiao’s heart. “It just promised me that if it ever makes me angry again, it’ll kneel on a keyboard as punishment.”
Having won Dr. Chi’s forgiveness, Su Qiao’s face finally broke into her signature goofy grin.
She suddenly presented a crumpled hamburger with both hands and executed a perfect ninety-degree bow. “This is my apology gift!”
Chi Jue was tickled by her foolish earnestness and decided to tease her. “You think you can win me over with just a hamburger?”
Despite her tough talk, she eagerly accepted the burger.
Su Qiao lifted her head, putting on a pitiful, puppy-dog expression, but quickly pressed forward, squeezing herself into the entryway. When it was time to be thick-skinned, she didn’t hold back.
“Should I take you out for something delicious? Or I’ll do whatever you want me to do?”
“I am a bit hungry; I didn’t eat enough earlier.” Chi Jue admitted, taking a small bite of the hamburger. It still carried Su Qiao’s body warmth, and as for the taste, well, it wasn’t exactly gourmet.
“You’re so wasteful! If you’d given me a little more time, I would’ve had the server pack it properly,” Su Qiao scolded, her spirits lifting the moment the tension eased, typical of her to lecture as soon as things smoothed over.
“What ingredients do you have in the fridge? I’ll whip up something simple for you. It’ll have to do.” She rolled up the sleeves of her Police uniform, slipped into her own dedicated pair of slippers as if she owned the place, and headed straight for the kitchen.
Chi Jue hopped along behind her, her movements as nimble as a rabbit’s ears perking up at the sound of Su Qiao heading to the kitchen. “You know how to cook?”
“Of course, this is a basic life skill.” Su Qiao said as she opened the double-door refrigerator. She had assumed that Dr. Chi, being so busy with work, wouldn’t bother with meals, but to her surprise, it was packed with fresh ingredients.
She turned back to Chi Jue in astonishment. “Not bad. It seems you can cook too.”
“Of course, this is a basic life skill.” Chi Jue echoed proudly, lifting her chin in imitation.
“Copying me again,” Su Qiao remarked, holding two free-range eggs in her hand and pulling out a large tomato. “How about tomato and egg rice stew?”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, no meat?” Chi Jue protested. She had deliberately saved her appetite for someone, and skipping a substantial dish just wouldn’t do.
“You’re quite picky, aren’t you?”
Watching the little bear’s expression caught between laughter and tears, Chi Jue leaned against the counter and continued her protest. “Some people, having just begged for my forgiveness, are already starting to slack off. Ah… those who don’t know how to cherish others never come to a good end~”
Su Qiao wrinkled her nose and made a funny face. “I’ve noticed that some people are not only copycats but also picky eaters, and they love to make sarcastic remarks, huh?”
“Feeling itchy for trouble again, are you?” Chi Jue stood on her tiptoes, clenched her fists, and pressed them against Su Qiao’s temples, twisting them vigorously. “Death penalty may be avoided, but living punishment is inevitable. You’re done for!”
“Ouch, ouch, ouch! That hurts!”
Su Qiao set down the ingredients in her hands, effortlessly grabbed Chi Jue’s arm with one hand, and pinned her against the refrigerator with a swift twist.
The two already had a physique and height difference that sparked imagination, and their current posture created a scene that made one’s blood race.
Su Qiao could easily envelop Chi Jue in her embrace. She leaned down, pressing close to the ear that captivated her, and whispered softly, “Don’t move. Assaulting an officer warrants punishment.”
What should have been a serious warning, delivered in such a posture, took on a flirtatious and teasing tone that was utterly embarrassing.
With her back to Su Qiao, Chi Jue felt a tantalizing, electrifying tingle at her ear, a sensitivity so intense it threatened to steal her soul. She suppressed a moan that was on the verge of escaping.
Her heart skipped a beat. Oh no, oh no, she had taken the game too far. That someone had turned into a wolf she had lured into her own home.
