- Double Rebirth: The Scumbag Heroine is Terrified of the Yandere Prince!
- Chapter 38 - Consort of Chu, Long Time No See!
Song Xuerou entered the Crown Prince’s Estate with a heart full of trepidation.
Keeping her head low, she offered a respectful greeting to Shen Ruoli. “This humble wife pays her respects to the Crown Princess.”
A long silence followed. Hearing no response from Shen Ruoli, Song Xuerou cautiously lifted her gaze.
She saw Shen Ruoli reclining on a chaise lounge, exuding an air of effortless elegance and languor. Song Xuerou had assumed that by marrying a man she didn’t love, Ruoli would lack the “nourishment of affection” and gradually wither away like a flower blooming out of season.
To her shock, Shen Ruoli appeared even more radiant and captivating than before she was wed! Song Xuerou didn’t dare imagine what Xie Xuansong would think if he were to see Ruoli looking like this.
Noticing her daze, Shen Ruoli raised an eyebrow slightly. “What’s wrong, Consort of Chu? Do you no longer recognize me?”
Though she spoke, Ruoli did not grant her permission to rise. Song Xuerou remained kneeling, her body growing stiff and her knees beginning to throb with pain. She detested Ruoli in her heart, cursing her silently, yet on the surface, she dared not show a hint of anger. Instead, she maintained a fawning smile.
“This humble wife wouldn’t dare! I was merely struck by how the Crown Princess has become even more breathtakingly beautiful after such a short time apart!” Song Xuerou’s voice was soft and sweet. “It seems the rumors are true—the Crown Prince treats you exceptionally well. As your friend, I am truly happy for you!”
After her rebirth, Shen Ruoli would never again be deceived by Song Xuerou’s “sugar-coated bullets.” In her past life, she had truly believed this woman wanted the best for her—that even when Xuerou stole the man she loved, it was because she was “forced” by Xie Xuansong.
Now, looking at that sweet smile, how could Ruoli not know the venomous hatred hidden beneath it?
“Oh? And how do I compare to my former self?” Ruoli asked.
“What?” Song Xuerou blinked, momentarily confused.
“You said I am more radiant than before. Tell me, have I managed to steal away your husband’s gaze?”
Shen Ruoli didn’t mince words. “Consort of Chu, I didn’t summon you today to reminisce. If we truly were to settle our old accounts, three days and nights wouldn’t suffice.”
“I hold no grudge against you for taking Xie Xuansong. On the contrary, I should thank you for taking out such a massive pile of trash for me! Therefore, to show my gratitude, I am giving you a chance to vent your anger.”
“I… I don’t understand.” Song Xuerou clenched her hands, her face still wearing a practiced smile. Even when she intended to kill, her smile remained sweet and undisturbed. But Shen Ruoli had already pierced through the malice beneath.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand. You will soon.”
With a gesture from Ruoli, Yun Yue brought someone forward. Soon, Qing Ying was thrown at Song Xuerou’s feet.
In stark contrast to her arrogance before Ruoli, the moment Qing Ying saw Song Xuerou, she curled into a ball in terror, burying her face against the floor, not daring to let the Consort see her.
“Crown Princess, what is the meaning of this?” Song Xuerou asked, unable to see the woman’s face.
Ruoli did not answer, merely glancing at Yun Yue. Understanding the signal, Yun Yue delivered a vicious kick to Qing Ying. Even as the blow nearly shattered her spine, Qing Ying remained curled up, too petrified to face the Consort of Chu.
It seemed her fear of Song Xuerou far exceeded Shen Ruoli’s expectations.
“It seems the Consort of Chu is quite terrifying indeed,” Ruoli said with a light chuckle, finally allowing Xuerou to stand.
Song Xuerou’s legs were so numb and sore they didn’t feel like her own. She braced herself against a table to stand up. Ignoring Ruoli for a moment, she reached down to grab Qing Ying’s hair. “Who are you? Why are you so afraid of me?”
With nowhere to hide, Qing Ying was forced to reveal her face as Xuerou yanked her head back!
Upon seeing her features, Song Xuerou gasped in horror. “How can it be you?! Weren’t you dead long ago?!”
Realizing she had slipped, she immediately fell silent and shot a cautious glance at Shen Ruoli.
Interesting, Shen Ruoli thought, her smile widening. It seemed there were things between these two she didn’t know yet. The show was about to get better.
Song Xuerou’s grip was so tight she tore out a large clump of Qing Ying’s hair. Qing Ying’s face contorted in agony, but she gritted her teeth and tried to play the fool. “Consort of Chu, you must have the wrong person! This servant, this servant doesn’t know you at all!”
“Slut! You still dare to play dumb!” Song Xuerou could no longer contain herself and delivered a resounding slap that flattened Qing Ying against the ground.
Realizing she had lost her composure, Xuerou clenched her hands tightly, forcing her rage down as she bowed to Ruoli. “Forgive me, Crown Princess. I have lost my manners.”
“This wench once had a very unpleasant encounter with me. She dared to steal a bracelet of mine on the street! Seeing her again made me lose my temper.”
In just a few moments, she had fabricated a story. Unfortunately for her, Shen Ruoli was no longer the fool who trusted her blindly.
“Is that so? How curious,” Ruoli said, resting her chin on her hand with a mocking smile. “One insists she doesn’t know the Consort of Chu, yet calls you by your title with every breath. The other says you only met once over a bracelet, yet the Consort of Chu is usually so ‘gentle and kind’—surely a mere bracelet wouldn’t cause such fury?”
The words “gentle and kind” were dripping with sarcasm. Song Xuerou’s face paled, and she quickly released her grip.
“Consort of Chu, we have known each other a long time. There’s no need to act in front of me.” Ruoli stood up, looking down at her with a cold smile. “I know you hate this girl. That is why I am handing her over to you. Dispose of her as you wish.”
“Truly?” Song Xuerou asked instinctively.
“I have one condition.”
“Please, speak!”
“This matter stays between us. If the Prince of Chu finds out, he will surely protect her… because this girl just recently suffered a miscarriage of his child!” Ruoli said slowly and deliberately.
“What did you say?!” Song Xuerou staggered, nearly falling. She stared at Ruoli in disbelief. “She… she carried the Prince’s child?!”
Xie Xuansong, that cursed man! Truly, a man’s words could never be trusted. If he could deceive Shen Ruoli, he could certainly go behind her back and consort with other women—like this lowly wench!
Years ago, when Xuerou had found her in Xie Xuansong’s bed, her world had crumbled. At that time, Xuansong was still trying to win over the Prime Minister’s Estate, so he followed her wishes and “executed” the maid. Song Xuerou thought she was dead. She never imagined he had kept her by his side just to appease his own desires!
Song Xuerou began to shake with pure, unadulterated rage.
“This girl and I also have a score to settle. Before the Prince of Chu returns to the capital, I will ‘lend’ her to you. Just make sure you leave her with a breath of life,” Ruoli said, satisfied with Xuerou’s reaction.
She smiled. “Once your anger has subsided, return her to me. What do you say?”
“Deal!” Song Xuerou agreed without a moment’s hesitation. “Rest assured, Crown Princess, I will ‘educate’ this wench thoroughly!”
She didn’t know how Qing Ying fell into Ruoli’s hands, but since Ruoli was handing her over, she clearly knew the history. Song Xuerou stopped pretending. As long as she could make this wench wish she were dead, the darkness in her heart could finally find some peace!
Song Xuerou turned back, her eyes gleaming with a murderous, ruthless intent as she looked at Qing Ying.
