Doomsday Cat City Lord - Chapter 26
“Meow!” Something is wrong, Rong City is in danger!
Cheng Ningye had just finished his advancement when he looked up and saw the swooping monster birds over a meter long, with three eyes, red feathers like blades, and long black beaks that emitted a scorching, high heat.
A silvery radiance flashed in his black pupils. The monster bird that met his gaze accelerated and collided with a stone; its skull shattered, and a red Level 3 crystal rolled out from its gray brains.
The violent wind blades unleashed by Xuan Yu had just vanished. Monsters with slightly smaller frames fell from the sky like rain. As his field of vision expanded, he could see flocks of birds approaching the Boyun Mountain Range.
“Meow!” I’m taking you away!
The black cat spread its wings to nearly four meters, its slender figure appearing light and agile.
“Go!” Cheng Ningye sprawled onto the black cat’s back. Feeling his body grow light, he found himself already high in the air.
Silvery-white threads of mental energy extended outward, coiling around the crystals on the ground and stuffing them into Cheng Ningye’s backpack.
Level 4 mental energy enveloped the human and the cat, causing monsters along the way to automatically retreat.
As they delved deep into the Boyun Mountain Range, the number of Level 3 monsters increased, and slaughter ensued.
Twenty minutes later, the Rong City walls were within reach.
Cheng Ningye, bathed in filthy blood, jumped onto a section of the city wall that had the most monsters outside of the main gate. Xuan Yu did not pause, flapping its wings to head up the mountain.
“Meow-aow!” Xuan Yu, just in time! There’s a Level 4 wind-type one here!
Mi Miaomiao stood in the cornfield, surrounded by a bird-catching net woven from honeysuckle branches. Low-level flying birds were attracted by the energy crystals on the tree net, but the cyan monster bird with six pairs of wings in the sky wouldn’t land, using wind whirls to harass them instead.
The black cat’s arrival broke the stalemate. The cyan bird opened its sharp beak and swooped down rapidly.
Wind blades collided with wind whirls. The airflow on the ground was chaotic, and Mi Miaomiao sprinted through the wind.
Xuan Yu plunged one paw into the wind whirl; as blood erupted, a deep wound was slashed into the cyan bird’s neck.
“Chirp—!”
The cyan bird monster fell, incapacitated by pain. Honeysuckle branches grew from below, fiercely piercing through its six pairs of wings, tearing them to shreds, before finally digging out the crystal.
Mi Miaomiao leaped into mid-air, catching the bloody black cat in its mouth. Upon landing, its heart was pounding thunderingly, the long fur on its neck flared, and it remained stiff for a moment before recovering its reason, hurriedly treating Xuan Yu’s wounds.
“You… forget it, you are forbidden from participating in the next battle!”
Watching the distorted limbs recover to completeness and the fractured wing bones heal, the big cat picked up the black cat, arrived at the door of the pre-built refuge cave on Platform 6, set it down, and said coldly: “Go advance! If you don’t reach Level 4, don’t come out!”
The cyan crystal fell before the black cat, and Mi Miaomiao turned and left.
After losing their leader-monster, the flying monsters, unable to form a large-scale attack, became the target of the giant cat’s venting anger and fear!
“Send all the injured here for treatment. Is the front line still short on weapons? Another batch has been made here!”
Deng Huai guarded the entrance of the log cabin, put down the metal tools in his hand, and signaled to Xiao Quan to put the injured on the beds. Beside the beds, the human-height honeysuckle branches automatically wound around the wounds. Under the shroud of green light, the blood gushing from their bodies gradually stopped.
The little red panda picked up a water canteen and chugged down two gulps, picked up the basket filled with arrows, and turned to head back to the city walls.
Cats ran along the viaducts, laser blades flashing as they harvested the low-flying monster birds. Ant guards moved in groups of three or five, picking up giant rocks from the roadside to smash down at the monsters falling from the sky.
“They just won’t stop coming!” Lu Haiye swiped a club, knocking away two human-sized monsters. The spilled blood corroded small pits into the ground.
“The elderly and children have all been sent to the refuge. Everyone, hold on for 10 more minutes! The City Lord will come to support soon!” Lu Jia was shrouded in black mist, her long whip dancing as she cleared a blank area at the city gate.
“Sister Lu Jia, the monsters in the sky have disappeared!” Ke Yi lowered his binoculars, reporting the news excitedly.
“…” The communicator on her hand lit up. After reading the message, Lu Jia gave the order decisively: “Close the city gate, move to the city walls for defense!”
The animal guard team, led by the old Monkey King and Luoyun, spontaneously brought up the rear, and the humans evacuated first.
Feng Lu took the arrows handed to him by the red panda, his hand, covered in blood-caked calluses, gripping his self-made automatic crossbow tightly.
Standing on the city walls, everyone worried: with no city gate passageway to relieve the pressure, what would happen if all the monsters climbed the city walls and the defensive gap was too large?
About two minutes later, before the first batch of monsters could scramble over the battlements, the continuous stream of monsters suddenly changed direction, rushing toward the canyon.
Their tightly wound nerves suddenly relaxed, and Cheng Jin, who was in logistics, suddenly fainted.
Yang Hailin rushed forward to embrace his wife, and Feng Lu also ran toward Aunt Cheng.
“Don’t move, lay her flat.”
Walking halfway, Lu Jia stumbled, but her typically indifferent or even numb exquisite face suddenly revealed a smile. Stars appeared in her light-brown pupils, and a unique, mysterious aura permeated her body. The people and animals in front of her retreated instinctively, and Yang Hailin’s hands followed the order uncontrollably, laying his wife flat on the medical stretcher.
“Hiss!” The pure black snake body, as thick as a bowl, circled the stretcher, stopping with its head at the side of Cheng Jin’s lower abdomen.
Her pale, slender fingers brushed the scales on Midnight’s head. Lu Jia let the snake coil around her body and said: “Congratulations, this is the first newborn born in Rong City.”
Yang Hailin’s mind went blank: “…”
Feng Lu looked at Aunt Cheng with astonishment, whispering: “Is Feifei going to have a little brother or sister?”
After the humans present came to their senses, they one after another revealed joyous, unbelievable smiles. This little life that would arrive in the apocalypse was like a hope, a hope that made them persist and look forward!
Knowing there was another pregnant female, the animals curiously kept watching, yet stayed fearfully away.
Pregnant females are fierce! Can’t provoke them! But there’s going to be a human cub! Hahaha!
After a life-and-death battle, there was no death, and a new life was welcomed. The successive stream of good news left everyone’s exhaustion behind.
“Since the consumption was too great before, shouldn’t we arrange for rotations to rest?” When Lu He-tao stood beside Lu Jia, he couldn’t help but hold his breath, always feeling that this girl was beautifully distant. Of course, the snake coiled on her body was also an important factor.
“Mmh.” Lu Jia nodded, remembering this person’s name was “Lu He-tao.”
The people guarding the city residents were divided into two; one team returned to rest, and one team stayed to defend.
The ant guards had already changed shifts before them. Except for the area near the city gate, all city walls were defended by them, and no accidents occurred.
In this battle, the coordination, obedience, and reasonable layout of the ant army by the queen ant were impressive.
The old Monkey King and Lu Jia exchanged glances, feeling that a powerful competitor had arrived.
[Host, can we really do this?] 012 was encountering for the first time a host who proactively schemed against the consciousness of a high-dimensional world, feeling unsettled.
“I recently read a book about human livestreaming art. A livestream should show daily yet exciting parts of life as much as possible. An audience can watch a daily routine for a while, but it can’t always be just a routine.”
Mi Miaomiao was currently mid-air. Outside the vine basket woven by the great banyan tree’s aerial roots, fragrant honeysuckle branches climbed.
“We are currently taking the initiative to show the audience scenes that might interest them. There is no fraud, no deception; why should I feel guilty?”
The core of the massive tree trunk before it was slowly exposed. The vibrant green crystal glowed dazzlingly; the energy brewing within it made Mi Miaomiao fearful. As fellow wood-type evolvers, just by bathing in its radiance, the energy accumulated in its body was already rising steadily.
The swarms of insects beneath the soil, earthworms, mice, the fusion-monsters running wildly on the ground, devourer-monsters, and the flying monsters circling in the sky—their shapes were strange and varied, but their movements were completely identical, pouncing toward the great banyan tree like moths to a flame.
Mi Miaomiao was among the moths. The flower branches parted beneath its feet. The energy it radiated was like a water droplet falling into water, creating only sparse ripples; not a single monster turned its head.
“Whoosh—!”
Countless aerial roots shone with deep green light, shaking violently to form orderly waves, dancing between heaven and earth. The giant tree, thousands of feet tall, was like a standing god, scattering radiance upon this continent.
Mi Miaomiao drifted with the waves, a strong sense of weightlessness and dizziness filling its body.
Before it could help but faint, a system voice, so excited it broke into distortion, rang in its ears.
[Host-sama! The livestream room… really, a high-dimensional world consciousness has really descended!]
“Stop, I don’t want the details. Remember, when you transfer the energy to the Earth world consciousness, help me pass on a message.”
Mi Miaomiao closed its eyes tightly, saying quickly in its mind: “Use this energy to exchange for the barrier that previously shrouded the great banyan tree. At the very least, it can isolate the great banyan tree’s scent every once in a while.”
With monster tides like today’s attacking continuously, Rong City couldn’t hold on for very long. Therefore, Mi Miaomiao had to take the risk and attempt proactive livestreaming!
[Okay, okay, Host, I’m going to find the Earth world consciousness right now! Wait for my news!]
Half a day later, the first wave of monster tides was annihilated by the great banyan tree itself. After receiving the system’s reply, Mi Miaomiao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
[Every half a month, shield the great banyan tree for 7 days.]
In the refuge cave, the space was separated. Lu He-tao held a bowl of warm vegetable soup; in front of him was a large plate of oily beef pies.
The wall behind him had a metallic texture; Lu Haiye, a Level 2 strength-type, had used his full force to barely leave a small dent in it. Beneath him was a thick mattress and winter quilt; just moments ago, someone had brought over winter clothing and protective suits, it was for everyone, thanks to everyone for defending Rong City together.
The sky was shrouded by the deep-green giant tree, and guards took turns keeping watch on the city walls. Except for the initial panic when facing the flying monsters, at this moment, there wasn’t a single living monster in the city.
Looking sideways out the door, in the center of the refuge hall, the indigenous residents seemed quite accustomed to this collective life.
They gathered around the fireplace to share food, exchange combat experience, and there were several young people, holding hard components removed from monsters, discussing how to use them to make weapons.
“Everyone has confidence in the City Lord. Even with such a terrifying monster tide, once it passes, we won’t take it to heart; we are all looking forward.” Lu Jiming patted Lu He-tao’s shoulder, sighing with emotion: “Anyway, I don’t think there could be a better base than this one.”
Lu He-tao nodded in agreement, and Lu Haiye had long since run to the center of the crowd, chatting enthusiastically with several young people of similar age.
With Xuan Yu in closed-door training and after meeting with Mi Miaomiao, Cheng Ningye took Deng Huai and Ke Yi, who was studying chemical engineering, into the secret warehouse to produce artificial meat using the transferred materials and tools.
Killing monsters, digging for crystals, burying monsters; if the number of monsters was too high, they would ask the great banyan tree to go all out.
City residents rested in turns renovating houses, studying at the training camp, studying monster parts.
Mi Miaomiao, however, could not rest. Fortunately, in such a persistent endurance battle, it discovered many animals and humans that could be reused.
On the evening of the fifth day, Mi Miaomiao was rarely able to sleep soundly in the refuge area when the queen ant suddenly sent a mental link.
“Get everyone up! The temperature is dropping rapidly!”
Mi Miaomiao shuddered, shocked by these words, and frozen by the sudden plummeting temperature.
A moment later, alarms rang out simultaneously in the refuge area and the temporary camp near the city walls.
Everyone was either jolted awake or came to their senses from the cold, watching as the thermometer plummeted from 5 degrees to minus 20 degrees.
