Chapter 29: The Doctor Sent Another Update on Lin Ying’s Condition…
The doctor sent another update on Lin Ying’s physical condition. The tumor had moved down and would soon be in the predicted location, just waiting for the right moment.
While waiting for news, Ji Qingyu continued his work. He was huddled on the sofa finalizing the stage play’s script when the door clicked open. He saw Fu Yunbai once again.
Ji Qingyu was still wearing his fluffy pajamas. He quickly put down his laptop without even closing the page and hurriedly said, “Uncle Fu, why are you here?”
Fu Yunbai seemed even more aggressive this time. Ji Qingyu didn’t know what had happened, but Fu Yunbai made no attempt to hide his disgust the moment he entered the house.
He seemed to have only glanced at some random, insignificant being, maintaining a cold, detached expression as he stood there.
Ji Qingyu’s heart tightened. He ushered Fu Yunbai to a seat. This time, he poured only a glass of water, not tea, and gently pushed it toward Fu Yunbai.
Fu Yunbai still didn’t touch it. After a while, he spoke the first word in a deep voice: “Did you trick Fu Han into sleeping with you back then?”
Ji Qingyu froze, as if a dull hammer had struck his spine. A layer of cold, clammy sweat coated his back. His fingers subconsciously clawed at the sofa cushion, gripping nothing.
How did Fu Yunbai suddenly find this out?
Ji Qingyu was completely at a loss. Fu Yunbai’s gaze swept over Ji Qingyu’s face, full of scrutiny: “Don’t bother thinking. Ji Ran told me.”
Ji Ran again. He always liked to use such despicable methods.
Fu Yunbai sat on the sofa, frowning, and instinctively issued a command: “Where is Fu Han?”
“I don’t know. He went out.”
Fu Yunbai didn’t say much more, but his brow furrowed when he saw Ji Qingyu’s lit computer screen: “You’re still doing these meaningless things. What stage play performance? What’s the use of these? Can they bring real profit? How many times have you embarrassed yourself? How many times have our family affairs been dragged into the public eye? Always doing things without considering the consequences.”
“Back then, do you know how much loss you caused us? Fu Yunsheng seized the opportunity. For a whole month, the headlines were about Fu Han missing the funeral.”
Ji Qingyu blinked, lowering his head without a word.
“Do you know that half of our people were kicked out by Fu Yunsheng back then? How crucial that move of yours was? Fu Han’s office light didn’t go out for months.” Fu Yunbai’s eyes were filled with disgust as he looked at Ji Qingyu.
“Is that so?” Perhaps because he was too exhausted, overwhelmed by recent events, and had no fondness for the man in front of him, Ji Qingyu spoke matter-of-factly: “Then you should have told Fu Han to keep his eyes open. Otherwise, how could he fall into my hands a second time?”
Fu Yunbai likely hadn’t expected the usually mild-mannered Ji Qingyu to speak to him like this. He raised his hand and slapped Ji Qingyu across the face. Ji Qingyu covered his face. Wang Sao screamed and hurriedly took ice from the refrigerator, wrapped it in a damp towel, and handed it to Ji Qingyu.
“Even a servant like you protects him so much?”
Ji Qingyu had previously found it hard to imagine that Fu Yunbai could lose control of his emotions, let alone do those things to Luo Sheng. Now, he had witnessed it.
“I won’t waste words with you. I’m here today to persuade you to leave Fu Han. You must know that you are worthless now,” Fu Yunbai smiled. “The Fu family doesn’t need an inferior Omega who causes trouble and has no affection. I believe Fu Han feels the same way.”
The plain water in the glass gently trembled. Ji Qingyu felt stomach acid burning his stomach painfully. He shifted his gaze. Outside the window, a row of weeds under the eaves drooped lifelessly, just like he had back then.
…
Ji Qingyu had gone looking for Fu Han. That was when he discovered he was pregnant. Before leaving, he sprayed half a bottle of perfume on himself, frantically, stuck a scent patch on his neck, and wrapped himself tightly in a scarf.
He searched everywhere but couldn’t find Fu Han. Now, he could only wait outside Fu Han’s company building, hoping to run into him by chance.
But luck never sided with Ji Qingyu.
The weather had turned cold then. He leaned against the glass wall, holding a cup of the cheapest hot coffee. He took a few sips, but it was bitter and astringent and offered no warmth; the cold permeated his bones.
He was wearing a corduroy fleece jacket that day. The cold wind cut right through it, making his knuckles red. He waited for a long time. Many people came and went. He hid in the corner like a shadow.
“Did you hear? Fu Han just won back that client. I’m telling you, they’re still willing to follow Fu Yunbai and Fu Han. You need to decide which side you’re on, or you won’t even know how you died later.” An employee wearing a work badge walked downstairs. Someone curiously eyed Ji Qingyu. Ji Qingyu retreated his face further into his scarf and sat in a more distant spot.
The pedestrians were bustling, all leaving the company after work. Ji Qingyu was afraid of missing Fu Han, so he stayed in the shadows of the corner, looking toward the entrance every few seconds. He turned around and nearly bumped face-to-face with someone.
The sudden appearance of a stunning beauty around the corner almost made Ji Qingyu fall. The woman, waving a platinum bag, shrieked, but was steadied by the hand behind her.
The Alpha raised an eyebrow. When he saw Ji Qingyu clearly, his brow furrowed, and his tone was merciless, contemptuous, and mean: “Who told you to come here?”
He still looked arrogant and proud. He wore a perfectly tailored suit, adorned with an exquisitely crafted, expensive-looking brooch. His hair was meticulously styled with gel, and he wore a bite blocker. A faint, subtle bluish tint lingered under his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” Ji Qingyu didn’t feel he had done anything wrong, but he still stepped back a few paces and apologized softly.
The Omega next to Fu Han had smooth, light chestnut hair, exquisite makeup, and wore a satin gown and hot-drill peep-toe heels.
The woman frowned, glanced at Ji Qingyu, and ignored his apology. Instead, she covered her nose and said flatly to Fu Han: “Is this someone you know? The perfume is too strong; it’s making me dizzy.”
Without waiting, the Omega brushed past Ji Qingyu’s shoulder and left.
Only Fu Han and Ji Qingyu remained. Fu Han looked at Ji Qingyu indifferently and moved to leave.
Ji Qingyu reached out and grabbed him, desperately holding onto the corner of his coat. He hadn’t done anything this shameless before. A sharp, embarrassing feeling gripped his throat: “Fu Han, wait a moment. Just let me say a few words.”
The woman was already waiting by the sports car not far away. Fu Han was impatient and clearly unwilling to acknowledge Ji Qingyu.
Ji Qingyu desperately clung to Fu Han’s clothes, hugging his arm with both hands like a piece of driftwood in a vast ocean—his only lifeline.
Fu Han lowered his gaze to him. His clothes were wrinkled from Ji Qingyu’s grip. He commanded: “Let go. I have nothing to say to you.”
“Fu Han, you have to give me a chance to explain,” Ji Qingyu said. “Just a few minutes, just a few minutes of your time.”
Fu Han looked at Ji Qingyu, seemingly wanting to speak but holding back. Ji Qingyu felt like there was something else in his eyes, but finally, Fu Han looked away: “We have nothing to talk about.”
“You, just give me five minutes. I promise I won’t pester you again after this. I promise.” Ji Qingyu’s eyes were circled with red. He was frantic. He could only discuss his pregnancy with the other person involved.
Fu Han looked down at the watch on his wrist, reluctantly: “Three minutes.”
“Okay, okay,” Ji Qingyu’s eyes were red. “I didn’t want to do this.”
“You sent the message. You were the only one in the room. I checked the surveillance footage. You walked in yourself. No one forced you. Also, you’re the illegitimate son of the Ji family, and Ji Ran was also helping you,” Fu Han frowned. “What else is there to say?”
“I, I…” Ji Qingyu opened his mouth. “You said you had something to tell me when you returned to school that day. Actually, I also had something to tell you.”
“Fu Han, I… I like you!” Ji Qingyu used all his strength to say that. It was incredibly difficult, and after saying it, he felt like he must be crazy.
The Alpha’s features were sharp, like they were carved with a knife. Hearing this, he stared at Ji Qingyu in disbelief. His hand suddenly gripped Ji Qingyu’s jaw, his voice laced with shocking hatred: “You still dare to say that? Do you think it’s fun to play tricks on me? Ji Qingyu, you should thank my immense generosity for still being able to stand here in one piece.”
Two marks were left on Ji Qingyu’s chin by Fu Han’s pinch. Tears streamed down his eyes: “Fu Han, let go of me, I…”
I’m pregnant.
I can’t afford a child right now. Can you give me some money? I’ll definitely pay you back later. I have no other choice. I have to work several jobs now. I can’t go back to singing at the bar. My songs were stolen. I’m at my wit’s end. Please help me.
His phone rang. Fu Han glanced down, frowning. Fu Han’s back remained straight. He looked haughty and invulnerable: “People need to learn to be responsible for their own actions. If you did it, you must own up to it. It’s your own fault to be punished.”
“I don’t have time to waste with you here. Just continue to live your life like this.” With that resounding statement, Ji Qingyu felt even colder.
The cold was chilling him to the bone. He didn’t know how to force himself to probe further: “Fu Han… what if, what if I told you I was pregnant? What would you do?”
“Then abort it,” Fu Han smiled, staring at Ji Qingyu with no trace of affection in his eyes. “You don’t even have a mark. How could you be pregnant? And even if you were, it wouldn’t be mine. Who knows how many other partners you have out there? You’d take anyone.”
“Let go. Your perfume smells strongly of alcohol.” Fu Han’s smile was scornful. He threw the expensive-looking brooch from his chest into Ji Qingyu’s hand. “Go buy a more expensive cup of coffee. After you drink it, leave for good. Stay far away from me and from the Fu Corporation. Understand?”
Ji Qingyu felt a prickly numbness in his heart. He felt like he had been slowly executed by Fu Han. Before he could react, Fu Han had already walked away.
Fu Han still seemed distant, unattainable, like the aloof moon in the sky, refusing to look down at him. Ji Qingyu was still a weed on the side of the road that wouldn’t be noticed even if stepped on, and now probably covered in mud.
Ji Qingyu remembered the Alpha he met on the day he returned to school. All the bullying and humiliation hadn’t affected him at all. Why, then, did he feel like his heart was being torn in two when it came to Fu Han?
Fu Yunbai’s voice pulled his thoughts back to reality: “Why are you back?”
Ji Qingyu looked up at Fu Han. The man’s chest was still rising and falling, and he was breathing heavily. He stopped, looking over with an extremely grim expression.
His gaze swept over Ji Qingyu, then sharply fixed on Fu Yunbai.
Ji Qingyu suddenly felt utterly exhausted. He couldn’t be bothered with whatever they were arguing about. He stood up, trying to get away from these two ruthless, high-ranking Alpha father and son.
Fu Han frowned, reaching out to grab him: “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Ji Qingyu stopped. The scar still lay across his neck. His face was pale, his expression calm and indifferent. His light brown hair fell loosely onto his shoulders, tied casually into strands. He closed his eyes, speaking slowly and quietly, “I’m just too tired.”
