Doctor Gu’s Orange Cat Boyfriend - Chapter 18
Unable to talk to him further, Qiao Weiwei quickly came up with a plan. She stepped out of the examination room and struck up a conversation with a young nurse at the front desk.
“Young lady, is Dr. Gu always this busy?”
“Oh yes, Dr. Gu is such a skilled doctor and so handsome. So many people come to see him,” the nurse replied with a smile.
“He must be exhausted,” Qiao Weiwei said with a sympathetic expression. “With such a busy schedule, does he even have time to take care of himself at home?”
Moved by her caring demeanor, the nurse casually added, “Oh, absolutely! Dr. Gu even has a cat & he adores it. It’s such a cute orange cat.”
At the word “cat,” Qiao Weiwei’s sweet smile froze for a moment, a flicker of disgust crossing her eyes.
She’d hated animals since childhood, especially cats. She found them shedding and dirty, and she was allergic to cat dander.
However, she quickly masked this disgust, her face regaining its smile. “Really? Dr. Gu must be so kind-hearted.”
While saying this, her mind was already calculating:
【A cat? Such a hassle.】
【But this could be a good opportunity to get closer to him.】
—
The next evening, just as Gu Chaoyu arrived home, the doorbell rang.
He assumed it was Lin Mucí, but upon opening the door, he found it was the girl who’d visited his clinic yesterday—Qiao Weiwei.
She held a thermos in her hand, her face beaming with a bright smile. “Dr. Gu, are you off from work already? I took the medicine you prescribed yesterday and feel much better. Thank you so much. My mom specially made some soup, and I brought some over to show our gratitude.”
She spoke, about to step inside.
Gu Chaoyu shifted slightly, blocking the doorway, showing no intention of letting her in.
“It was my duty. No need to be so formal. But how did you know I live here?”
“Well… I asked the receptionist at the clinic yesterday.”
【If that receptionist had given me your address yesterday, would I have had to leave work early and wait near the clinic?】!
“Oh? The receptionist doesn’t know where I live?” Gu Chaoyu’s tone grew colder.
Just then, Qiao Weiwei spotted Orange (No. 2) napping in the living room.
“Ah… Dr. Gu, so you really do have a cat… It’s so cute…”
She spoke while unconsciously waving her hand in front of her nose.
“Sorry, I… I’m a bit allergic to cat hair. The smell makes me uncomfortable. But it’s fine, don’t get the wrong idea. I don’t dislike animals. To avoid disturbing you and your cat, I won’t come inside. I’ll leave the soup by the door. Remember to drink it while it’s hot.”
【Allergies? More like an acting craving.】
Just as he was about to refuse, a familiar voice called out from the side.
“Gu Chaoyu, I’m here! I brought everything to bathe Orange!”
Lin Mucí, carrying a small basket filled with pet shampoo and towels, cheerfully opened the door and stepped out.
Then, he witnessed the scene at the doorway.
Alarm bells blared in Lin Mucí’s mind, his radar beeping furiously.
【Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit! What the hell is going on?!】
【Who is this woman? Why is she at Gu Chaoyu’s doorstep? And carrying soup?】
【This familiar plot, this classic scene, this overwhelming vibe of a scheming mistress…】
【My love rival radar is off the charts!】
【This scene… looks exactly like catching someone cheating.】
【Pfft! Nope!】
【Looks exactly like the wife catching the mistress!】
Within mere seconds, Lin Mucí’s mind had already played out an eighty-episode melodramatic family soap opera. From “The Innocent Lotus Flower Stages a Chance Encounter” to “The Scheming Woman Delivers Warmth with Soup Late at Night,” and then to “The Domineering Doctor and the Charming Neighbor”. He’d even thought up the titles.
When Gu Chaoyu saw Lin Mucí appear, the frown that had been etched on his face while facing Qiao Weiwei instantly smoothed out.
He overheard the melodramatic scenes playing out in Lin Mucí’s mind and nearly burst out laughing.
【The wife catches the mistress? Mucí’s imagination is still as vivid as ever.】
【But I like his description…】
Gu Chaoyu cleared his throat, stepping back imperceptibly to create distance from Qiao Weiwei. He turned and lifted Orange (No. 2), who was dozing with its paws tucked in, from the cat tree in the living room.
He walked over to Lin Mucí and handed over the warm, soft bundle in his arms.
“You’re just in time. Orange just woke up and has been thinking about you.”
Lin Mucí instinctively took the cat. Orange (No. 2) settled into a comfortable position in his arms with practiced ease, then nudged his chin with its fluffy head.
This seamless sequence of actions left Qiao Weiwei across from them utterly dumbfounded.
【Who is this guy? He’s actually quite handsome…】
【Dr. Gu actually offered to hand him the cat? And he took it so naturally!】
【Why do I feel so out of place here, like I’m just an extra…】
A warning bell rang in Qiao Weiwei’s mind, but her facial expression remained flawlessly composed. She flashed an even sweeter, more innocent smile as she turned to Lin Mucí.
“Hello there! You must be Dr. Gu’s neighbor? You and Orange have such a close bond. Look how attached it is to you. So adorable.”
Her voice was soft and sweet, sounding utterly sincere.
If not for Gu Chaoyu clearly hearing her inner thoughts, he might have been fooled by her act too.
【Clingy? It’s just an animal.】
【This guy looks dumb. Should be easy to handle.】
Lin Mucí was a bit dazed by her flawless, all-around charm.
[Pro! This is a pro!]
[That smile, that tone, that perfectly timed familiarity… Her tea-drinking skills are maxed out!]
[No, I can’t lose! I can’t lose the momentum!]
Lin Mucí straightened his chest, hugged the “beloved son” in his arms tighter, and returned a bright, sunny smile: ” “Yeah, I just click with Orange. After all, an adorable kitten should be with an adorable person!”
【Hmph! Subtly calling me adorable! I’m such an utterly ordinary linguistic genius!】
Gu Chaoyu listened to their conversation and inner thoughts, feeling like he was watching a battle without gunpowder. I was utterly fascinating. He decided to add fuel to the fire.
He turned and walked into the kitchen, his voice drifting out: “Mucí, you were running so fast. Aren’t you thirsty? I’ll get you a glass of water.”
The excuse was perfectly reasonable, successfully creating a private space for the two people at the door.
The moment Gu Chaoyu turned away, the sweet, charming smile vanished from Qiao Weiwei’s face.
She took a small step forward, lowering her voice to a whisper audible only to them. She spoke slowly, enunciating each word:
“Dr. Gu is mine. I advise you not to entertain any ill intentions.”
