- Chapter 6 - I Want My Own Bloodline, Not a Bad Temper
Qi Ji knit his brows and asked coldly, “What exactly do you mean by that?”
“Are you angry?” Lu Ming looked dejected and frustrated, the corners of his eyes reddening slightly.
Qi Ji’s frown deepened. “What do you think?”
“I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
“Right, you did it intentionally.”
Lu Ming opened his mouth to protest his innocence, but after a thought, he did feel a bit guilty. He whispered, “An Alpha has a strong sense of possessiveness over an Omega they have marked; it is an instinct I cannot control. Besides, he kept saying things to provoke me. You couldn’t have missed the sarcasm in his words, could you? I was trying very hard to restrain myself, truly!”
He paused, then added, “It is one thing to insult me, but he talked about our child. The child is innocent; why would he do that?”
“He didn’t mention the child.”
“He did! First, he said I had a severe internet addiction, and then he said ‘like father, like son.’ I found that kind of insinuation incredibly bizarre. Isn’t he a bit too petty?”
Qi Ji was stunned by his ability to distort the truth. “And now you’re the one feeling aggrieved?”
“These are grievances I should bear; you don’t need to feel indebted. I only hope he won’t attack my child again next time.”
Qi Ji scratched his head. Before coming here, he had planned to give the boy a good lecture, but facing that face full of grievance and weakness, he couldn’t muster any temper at all. “Fine, fine! You go back on your own first!”
“Aren’t you coming back? Are you going to continue your date with him?”
“What does it matter to you whether I go back or not?”
“I am worried about your body. Your situation is unique. Your boyfriend is currently only concerned with his own dignity and grievances. He clearly knows you are pregnant, so how could he serve you wood ear soup?”
Qi Ji took a deep breath. “Enough! Get back and stop talking!”
“Then you must be careful. Try not to eat anything reckless while you’re out. Call me if anything happens.”
“Okay.”
“Bye-bye.”
Qi Ji turned around gloomily and walked away without looking back. Lu Ming watched his figure disappear before taking out his motorcycle keys. He reached for the handlebar, but his hand met empty air.
“Where is my helmet?!”
Qi Ji returned to the private room and saw He Zhaolin leaning over his phone, enthusiastically messaging someone with a warm smile on his face. The image of the Omega he had seen at the airport flashed through Qi Ji’s mind, making him feel uncomfortable.
“Who are you messaging?”
Seeing him return, He Zhaolin calmly locked the screen and stuffed the phone into his suit pocket. “No one, just some work issues. Did he go back?”
“Yes.”
He Zhaolin’s gaze turned meaningful. “Is he interested in you?”
Qi Ji’s heart tightened. “Don’t talk nonsense; there is nothing possible between us.”
“Is that so?” He Zhaolin only wanted to use him, but he had no intention of giving away what he didn’t want himself. “But why do I feel like he has developed a very strong possessiveness toward you?”
“If you want to spend the whole night discussing this, then let’s just go home. There is no need to waste time making each other unhappy.”
“Shall we take a walk nearby?” He Zhaolin felt he couldn’t let Qi Ji ignore him any longer. If that Alpha stepped in, how could he keep Qi Ji obedient?
“Alright.”
He Zhaolin took his hand and led him toward the nearby night market. “Is this street familiar?” He Zhaolin looked at him with deep affection. “Back in university, we came here many times.”
Beautiful and pure memories from the past flooded Qi Ji’s mind. “I remember.”
“Wait for me.” He Zhaolin ran off before Qi Ji could even ask where he was going. Qi Ji was left standing there waiting. About four or five minutes later, He Zhaolin ran back holding a pastry box. “Cream Senbei. I remember you always bought these whenever you came here.”
“Thank you.” Qi Ji took the box, but Lu Ming’s warning echoed in his mind. He held it in his hand without opening it to eat.
He Zhaolin asked in confusion, “Aren’t you going to try it? I wonder if the taste has changed.”
“I’m still very full. I’ll take it back for a midnight snack.”
“Do you want to see a movie? There’s a new sci-fi film out that seems quite good. I’ll buy the tickets now.”
“Zhaolin.”
“What is it?”
“I’m a bit tired. Let’s call it a day.”
“I’m sorry. Did I do something to upset you? Tell me, and I will definitely change.”
In truth, Qi Ji didn’t like sci-fi movies at all. He had mentioned wanting to see something else several times before, but He Zhaolin never seemed to remember. Every time they saw a movie, He Zhaolin would just buy the tickets and drag him along, just like today. Boring movies always made him drowsy. More awkwardly, after leaving the cinema, He Zhaolin would always discuss the plot enthusiastically, but Qi Ji could never remember any of it.
“No, I’m just a bit tired. I have an early meeting tomorrow, so I want to go back and rest.”
“Then shall I drop you off?”
Qi Ji didn’t refuse. They both seemed preoccupied on the way and didn’t speak. When the car stopped outside the villa, Qi Ji didn’t rush to get out, appearing as if he had something to say.
“We’re here. Go home and get some rest.”
“Zhaolin.” Qi Ji hesitated. “I asked him to come for dinner today because I wanted to explain what happened that day, but the conversation seemed to fall apart.”
He Zhaolin’s smile turned a bit awkward.
“My feelings for you won’t change,” Qi Ji said firmly. “But I don’t know what you are thinking right now. If you have reservations and cannot accept my past, you can say so clearly now. I will give you some compensation. We’ve known each other for a long time; let’s part on good terms.”
Part on good terms? He Zhaolin sneered inwardly. Twenty years ago, the He family had come to Hong Kong from a remote area, and class was like an unbreakable barrier. Right now, the He family did not have enough power to establish themselves in Hong Kong. The only thing he could rely on was Qi Ji. They would separate eventually, but not now.
“What are you thinking? I won’t separate from you. We’ve known each other since we were seven; twenty years of feelings means we are already family. Once you give birth to this child and cut ties with him completely, we will get married and have a child of our own.”
Qi Ji finally showed a pleased smile. “Zhaolin, I will remember your kindness.”
Hearing this, He Zhaolin finally felt relieved. He unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned slowly toward Qi Ji, appearing as if he wanted to kiss him. After all, faking deep affection couldn’t just be about words.
Unexpectedly, as he drew near, Qi Ji felt a sudden wave of dizziness. Nausea surged from his stomach. He threw the car door open and ran to the corner to retch. He Zhaolin’s pheromones made him feel sick. So this was what it was like to be permanently marked by another Alpha!
“Qi Ji, are you alright?” He Zhaolin tried to step forward to help him, but Qi Ji blocked him with his arm.
“I’m sorry, I…”
He Zhaolin let out a cold laugh. “Do you find me disgusting? Qi Ji, you just said your feelings for me wouldn’t change, yet you have this reaction to my touch. How am I supposed to believe you?”
“It’s the issue with the mark.” Qi Ji didn’t finish his sentence. Because Lu Ming’s pheromones were of a higher grade, his rejection reaction to others was particularly strong.
He Zhaolin’s expression gradually twisted. “Is that so?”
“What else do you think it is?”
“I think this guy named Lu knows how to use his face very well. He is indeed young and handsome. You spend every day in the same house; there’s no guarantee you won’t be charmed by him! Besides, he marked you. An Omega’s instinct is to develop a dependency on the Alpha who marked them. Qi Ji, is that happening to you too?”
“Are you looking down on me?” Qi Ji felt very uncomfortable and visibly flustered. He felt He Zhaolin wasn’t in the wrong, so he was more indulgent toward him than usual. “Go back first. I’ll contact you tomorrow.”
He Zhaolin put on a hurt expression. “Alright. Goodbye.”
Qi Ji opened his mouth to explain, but he couldn’t find the words. He watched He Zhaolin’s car drive away and turned to walk into the yard. He felt the yard looked a bit different today, but he was too tired to pay attention.
As he walked through the entryway, Lu Ming’s gentle greeting sounded from the hall: “You’re back?”
Since Qi Ji realized the influence of the Alpha’s mark, he began to feel uneasy whenever he faced Lu Ming. Although he always put on a cold face, he no longer resisted close physical contact. When he was restless, he would quickly calm down because of this Alpha’s pheromones as soon as he approached. Living together for over a month, he had naturally accepted the Alpha’s care and arrangements, and he felt a sense of security and peace he had never known before.
He reached behind his neck and scratched hard at the mark left by the Alpha. He wanted to run, but he found himself trapped in an invisible net that held him tightly.
Lu Ming immediately caught his mood. He set down the assembled machine model and sat on the sofa, looking up at Qi Ji. Through the floor-to-ceiling window, he had seen the car that dropped Qi Ji off. A couple reunited after a long time would surely be unable to restrain themselves in private, right? Would that Alpha kiss him? Would he embrace him? Being held by an Alpha you like must be very happy, right?
So, he was only feeling uneasy and depressed because he saw him.
“Stop scratching. That mark can be removed. I’ll find the best doctor to perform the surgery for you.” Lu Ming’s voice grew cold, and he looked away.
“Do you really think so?” Qi Ji was suspicious of him.
Lu Ming asked with a smile, “Why do you ask that?”
“Don’t think you can control me with pheromones. Lu Ming, if you really have that idea, I’d rather be a broken jade than a whole tile.”
Lu Ming showed a look of innocent confusion. “Did Mr. He say something to you?”
“Don’t you think what you’ve done exceeds your responsibilities in the agreement?” The more Qi Ji thought about it, the deeper he felt the boy’s schemes were. “I can’t think of a reason why you would do this.”
Lu Ming lowered his head, feeling stifled. “So?”
“You want money. I can give you money when we divorce, but nothing more will exist between us. I hope you understand that.”
“Do you have a lot of money?” Lu Ming looked up at him.
“How much do you want?”
“A little bit of money won’t satisfy me. I’ve seen the world too; don’t even mention tens of millions. At the very least, I’ll want several hundred million when we divorce.”
“How do you dare to say that?”
“What, you can’t afford it? Aren’t you afraid I’ll use pheromones to control you? What if I refuse to let go then? You’ve seen Omegas controlled by pheromones lose their lives and freedom. Why do you think I’ve done so much?”
“Are you threatening me?” Qi Ji’s face turned pale, and he clenched his fists tightly.
“I just want you to understand that you shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep. If you can’t even give me several hundred million, what right do you have to say I’m doing this for your money? It’s ridiculous!”
“You!”
“It’s getting late. You’re carrying my child; it’s better not to overthink things.” Lu Ming rose from the sofa and walked toward him step by step.
Qi Ji’s heart drummed in his chest. He felt this Alpha’s aura had become powerful and unfamiliar, creating an intense sense of pressure.
“President Qi, don’t think too highly of yourself. What I want is my own bloodline, not a bad-tempered Omega, and certainly not your money. Don’t worry, alright?”
