Distance Formula - Chapter 41
Chapter 41
Still uneasy, Bai Biqing went back to have a deep talk with her brother. The two decided to strike early to prevent any unforeseen complications. Only then did she return to her work and handle affairs with a peaceful mind.
The cocktail party began at three in the afternoon. Su Yanshi was getting her makeup done, wearing a custom gown provided by Bai Biqing. The evening dress sent by the Beta was a blue puff-skirt; the details were impeccably crafted, and it didn’t restrict movement. While in the makeup chair, the Alpha looked at herself in the mirror and suddenly remembered the painting Bai Biqing had once given her.
“Wait, teacher, I’ll do it myself.”
The makeup artist didn’t hesitate and nodded: “Certainly. Call me if you need anything.”
Su Yanshi exhaled. Her makeup skills weren’t bad. She focused her mind, trying to recall the details of that painting, her hands never stopping their rhythmic movements.
She didn’t even notice when Su Shang came to stand beside her.
“Yanshi, you look so beautiful today!” Su Shang’s praise was sincere. Su Yanshi’s makeup today highlighted the superiority of her features even more than usual, adding a touch of playfulness.
Su Yanshi was startled. She turned around and looked at Su Shang with a beaming smile: “Thank you. You too.”
The Omega was different from usual; she was dressed very sharply. Su Shang leaned back against the makeup table with both hands and winked at Su Yanshi: “I’ll go in first. I’ve already settled everything for you. Someone will meet you after you enter the main gates and lead you to find Biqing. Don’t worry, as long as she’s there, you don’t need to be nervous.”
Su Yanshi signaled her understanding, her eyes seemingly filled with starlight and the deep sea: “I’m looking forward to seeing her.”
Su Shang looked like she’d just been stuffed with public displays of affection. She patted Su Yanshi’s shoulder: “I’m heading out first. Call me if anything happens.”
“Okay.”
Su Yanshi rubbed her face and put on a perfect smile. Lifting her skirt, she began walking toward the venue.
Just as Su Shang had said, everything was smooth and unobstructed. She entered the venue at five in the afternoon, arriving a bit late. The hall was already crowded, which was an arrival time specifically arranged by Bai Biqing.
The moment she entered, someone came to greet her: “Are you Miss Su Yanshi? I was arranged by Little Boss Bai.”
Su Yanshi noted the person’s face and nodded in affirmation.
The person continued: “Little Boss Bai is talking in a room and asked you to go directly to her.”
“Alright.” Su Yanshi didn’t suspect much; this matched roughly what Bai Biqing had told her.
The waiter led her to a private box on the third floor and said respectfully: “I wish you a pleasant day.”
Su Yanshi responded politely. She knocked on the door and pushed it open, but before she could step in, she was shoved from behind. Her eyes widened. Reacting instantly, she turned to pull the door back open, but in the next second, she heard the sound of the door locking. Her heart tightened violently. The approaching aura behind her made her gaze turn sharp. She spun around quickly, but a needle had already been plunged into her gland.
The Alpha yanked the syringe out. Upon seeing who it was, she was slightly stunned: “Cui Xiaojiu, why are you here?”
Cui Xiaojiu no longer had a trace of her former high spirits. Her eyes were murky and filled with a frantic madness: “Su Yanshi, how does the Alpha Inducer taste? Since you’re a top-tier Alpha, I specially increased the dosage.”
Su Yanshi’s heart sank. She didn’t panic; instead, she became increasingly calm. She wordlessly scanned her surroundings, sharply noticing a camera with its light on, as well as an Omega with a flushed face curled up in the corner.
She understood in an instant. Bai Biqing had told her a few things. The Alpha let out a cold laugh: “What, did you end up being a ‘lapdog’ after all? You think you can threaten me?”
Cui Xiaojiu’s laugh was terrifying: “Can’t I? As long as you mark that Omega, I don’t believe you won’t be ruined. Oh, right—”
She spoke eerily: “I heard you and Bai Biqing got together. It’s because of you two that I’ve fallen to this state. Weren’t you going to go public today? Then I’ll send along my most sincere blessings.”
Cui Xiaojiu clutched her stomach and laughed: “Do you know? It’s all because you appeared. My resources were snatched, my spotlight was stolen… everything you have should have been mine! Why do you get to have all the good things? If I’m not having a good time, neither of you will!”
Su Yanshi looked at Cui Xiaojiu’s irrational state and only felt it was laughable. The drug had been injected directly into the gland, making the effects manifest far faster. She already felt dizzy, and her limbs were losing strength, yet she felt a surge of latent energy building. The swelling of her gland made her involuntarily grind her teeth, and the corners of her eyes turned red.
Her pheromones began to drift uncontrollably.
The Omega was also stimulated. She lifted her head with a vacant gaze, panting heavily, uncomfortably pulling at her clothes and stroking her own gland, whimpering unintelligible words.
The air was thick with the scent of that Omega.
Su Yanshi frowned. She felt herself being affected; it seemed the compatibility between her and this Omega wasn’t low. On the contrary, Cui Xiaojiu looked perfectly fine—just how many suppressants did she have to take to achieve that effect?
Why didn’t she just overdose and die?
Her breathing suddenly became ragged. The Omega’s unconscious moans stimulated her nerves from time to time. She estimated about twenty minutes had passed; Bai Biqing should have noticed something by now.
Su Yanshi leaned against the wall and stood up. She sneered, her eyes full of undisguised mockery. She said disdainfully: “Cui Xiaojiu, you really think too much of yourself. I’ve never considered you my rival. Even if you became A-list or a top-tier star, I wouldn’t care in the slightest. You know, you’re exactly like a villain in a novel—useless at stopping the plot, just a bit of cannon fodder used to push the story along.”
She let out a light laugh and lazily lifted her eyes: “In fact, you lost from the very beginning.”
Having said that, she looked with heavy hostility at the Omega who had at some point tangled around her legs, and barked: “Wake up!”
Su Yanshi pursed her lips and scanned the room for any usable tools. Her gaze finally landed on an empty wine glass.
She kicked the Omega away, trying to keep her at a distance while controlling her strength so as not to cause too much injury.
Su Yanshi curled her lips into a smile and suddenly laughed out loud: “I really don’t want to mention it, but—I am a high-level Alpha. And you, after all, are an inferior Alpha. Biologically and in reality, you’ve lost.”
Her voice fell softly. As expected, she saw Cui Xiaojiu’s furious expression. These people wanted to ruin her and Bai Biqing; they certainly wouldn’t let her leave easily. But how could she let them have their way?
It was just a pity she hadn’t managed to see Bai Biqing yet today.
Su Yanshi’s gaze suddenly turned fierce. She violently pushed Cui Xiaojiu away, and in a continuous motion, swept the empty wine glass to the floor. She knelt down elegantly, picked up a glass shard, and pressed it against her gland. The two stood in a silent standoff.
The effect of the inducer grew stronger. Su Yanshi could barely stand. She leaned her side against the wall, staring at Cui Xiaojiu with cold eyes. Her lips moved slightly: “You really are an idiot. What did you think your bargaining chip was?”
The cold, sharp glass sliced open the burning gland. The unbearable pain forced her consciousness back to clarity: “I will never become her weakness.”
“—Useless.”
Bright red blood covered Su Yanshi’s hands. Her phone had no signal. With trembling hands, she stole a quick glance at the time; thirty minutes had passed. The dripping blood made the numbers blurry. Her gown was covered in startling red.
She curled her lips. The erupting pheromones caused the Omega to faint immediately. Cui Xiaojiu also knelt on the ground, unable to withstand the pressure, looking at her as if she were a madwoman.
Su Yanshi had no choice. She had no way to guarantee what would happen next if she didn’t do this. She didn’t want to touch any Omega.
Her consciousness gradually blurred. The pain at the back of her neck brought beads of cold sweat to her forehead. Her body trembled with a pale face. It seemed that in the very moment she lost consciousness, she saw the person she had missed for tens of thousands of seconds.
Bai Biqing was talking with a group of old foxes. It was almost five o’clock. She couldn’t help but crinkle her eyes, looking entirely in a good mood. She was very much looking forward to Su Yanshi’s appearance today.
Sitting to the side, Uncle Bai raised his eyebrows triumphantly.
As time ticked by, Bai Biqing grew increasingly uneasy. She made time to message Su Shang, who said Su Yanshi should have entered long ago. She realized something instantly and glared at Uncle Bai as if she wanted to swallow him alive. She quickly dialed a number.
No one answered.
Bai Biqing knew immediately that something was wrong. Recalling their encounter yesterday, she instantly locked onto Uncle Bai.
She forced herself to remain calm, but her tone was chillingly vicious. She stared straight at Uncle Bai, enunciating every word: “You laid a hand on Su Yanshi?”
Uncle Bai was nonchalant: “Who says? Maybe she’s enjoying herself with an Omega right now.”
Bai Biqing picked up a wine bottle and walked over. People around tried to stop her, but she threw it directly. The aura around her was so intimidating no one dared approach: “Very well. Very well.”
She turned to leave, but Uncle Bai stood in her way: “Biqing, it’s not polite to leave a conversation with elders early.”
Bai Biqing didn’t want to deal with him; she just wanted him to open the door. During the struggle, the thick pheromones drifting through the cracks made her pupils shrink—it was Su Yanshi’s.
Her footsteps faltered for a heartbeat, then she charged out like she’d gone mad. She grabbed Uncle Bai by the throat like a Rakshasa crawling out of hell: “Just you wait. I will make your life worse than death. You brainless idiot.”
She tightened her fingers until he couldn’t breathe before letting go. She wrenched open the private box doors. She quickly narrowed down the location and found a cleaning cart in the hallway. She grabbed a metal pipe and headed up, her breathing heavy, her entire body radiating a terrifying aura.
With bloodshot eyes, Bai Biqing reached the third floor. She kicked the locked door open, and the moment she saw inside, her breath almost stopped.
Her Alpha was covered in blood, her gland slashed into a horrific mess. Su Yanshi was clutching a shard of glass. The room was filled with the scent of an Omega. She realized what had happened instantly. Without even turning her head, she struck Cui Xiaojiu with the pipe, then practically collapsed as she knelt before Su Yanshi.
She carefully picked Su Yanshi up, kissing her brow with aching tenderness. Her eyes swept over the clothes the Alpha was wearing and the exquisite makeup she’d applied. Her heart felt as if it were being wrenched. She murmured: “Yanshi, you look so beautiful today.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t let a single one of them get away.”
Su Yanshi didn’t wake up until five days later. The damage to her gland was extremely severe; the doctor had even issued a critical condition notice once. Unlike marking, this was directly linked to life-threatening illness.
In those few days, Su Yanshi had lost a lot of weight. She was on a ventilator, her hospital gown hanging loosely on her frame.
The Alpha woke up in a daze, her vision still blurry. After focusing for a long time, she saw Bai Biqing slumped by her bedside. She struggled to move a finger, and the Beta was jolted awake instantly.
Seeing her awake, Bai Biqing frantically pressed the call button. Before she could speak, tears fell. She wiped them away clumsily and tried to pull a smile, but thinking it looked ugly, she suppressed it.
Su Yanshi felt both amused and heartbroken. She didn’t know how long she’d been out, but Bai Biqing had grown much thinner, and the dark circles under her eyes were impossible to hide. When she looked at her, her eyes were filled only with her.
The Alpha tried to speak but was stopped. Bai Biqing knelt on the floor, stroking her hand as if afraid of losing her again. She opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say; tears dripped uncontrollably, burning hot on the back of Su Yanshi’s hand. The Beta was trembling so much she could barely form a sentence: “Yanshi…”
“Let’s get married, okay?”
Bai Biqing was helped up by the medical staff as a group began checking on Su Yanshi. The Alpha’s gaze remained fixed on the Beta outside the crowd. Hearing the doctor say she was okay, she forced a slight smile and wordlessly moved her lips.
But Bai Biqing saw it clearly. Su Yanshi was saying: “Okay.”
Her Alpha was saying, I do.
December 15th.
On social media, Su Yanshi posted her first Weibo in days: “Welcome, my new member. [Image]”
And Bai Biqing reposted it: Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
The attached image was the same for both: two hands interlaced, the rings striking and clear. And appearing in the shot together were two marriage certificates.
At midnight on December 16th, it was Su Yanshi’s birthday.
Bai Biqing posted another Weibo.
There was only one sentence.
Bai Biqing V: “Thank you for coming into my life and becoming the existence I cannot live without.”
The two sat in rocking chairs at home, laughing and playing. They kissed under the moonlight, sharing their hearts.
Just as before, when snow fell on the shadows of those embracing at the curtain call, this vivid and burning love remains tireless, and once set in motion, its destination is unknown.
