Distance Formula - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Bai Biqing didn’t say a word. Su Yanshi wasn’t particularly wet, but her eyes looked pitiful. Seeing the Alpha hiding in such a cramped space, eyes rimmed with red while still apologizing, Bai Biqing’s rising temper vanished instantly.
“Yanshi.” Bai Biqing squatted down, opened her arms, and pulled her out.
Su Yanshi didn’t resist. She followed her out obediently and then wrapped her arms tightly around Bai Biqing’s waist, her voice muffled: “Teacher Bai, where did you go?”
Bai Biqing kissed her hair: “I ordered a meal to treat the crew, and in the blink of an eye, you were gone.”
The Alpha rubbed against her: “I thought you didn’t want me anymore. This rut is so long, I feel like I’m constantly overthinking things… even though I trust you.”
“I know.” Bai Biqing pinched her cheek and kissed her eyes.
The Beta didn’t give her a chance to continue dejectedly: “You can’t use suppressants. I asked the doctor—they said because you used too many suppressants during previous ruts, this one is lasting much longer. Don’t worry.”
Su Yanshi sighed, tilting her head back uncomfortably: “I’m making trouble for you, aren’t I?”
“I didn’t want this. I didn’t know an Alpha’s rut could be like this. I don’t want to leave you.”
The Alpha’s “straight ball” was very direct. Bai Biqing froze for a moment, her heart melting: “Mhm, I won’t leave you. And it’s no trouble at all.”
“Take a shower. I’m soaked through.”
“I—”
Bai Biqing took her hand and led her toward the bathroom: “No saying sorry!”
“Okay.”
After showering, the two lay on the bed. Bai Biqing touched her sore, bitten gland. Su Yanshi’s pheromones had settled significantly. She leaned on the Beta’s shoulder, scrolling through trending topics on her phone together.
Cui Xiaojiu’s recent traffic and popularity were skyrocketing, and her anti-fans had grown in number as well, but they couldn’t beat the crazed fan groups. Some had even started mocking Su Yanshi.
The insults in the private messages were even filthier. As Bai Biqing cleared out her inbox, her expression darkened.
Su Yanshi patted her hand and kissed her chin: “It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
Bai Biqing looked down at Su Yanshi in the dim light. The little Alpha’s eyes held a brightness that didn’t show any pain from being hurt. The Beta suddenly remembered something: “When we first met, why didn’t you want to go to the hospital?”
The Alpha startled at the question. She exhaled a hot breath and smiled with pursed lips, not intending to hide it: “I was smeared once because I went to the hospital. I was young then and hadn’t been debuted long. The online hate was terrible. I remember…”
Su Yanshi’s gaze became a bit vacant, losing focus: “I was recognized at the hospital. People threw things at me and cursed… said very nasty things. I couldn’t accept it at the time, and my mental state was poor. I think because of that, I have a subconscious fear of hospitals. The moment I walk in, I feel like people are staring at me.”
“Even after so much time, I still can’t let it go. I vaguely remember being hit by lipsticks and teacups; I had bruises all over. There were wounds on my forehead too. The incident flared up again later, but fortunately, the company helped me out and suppressed a lot of it, so I survived.”
Bai Biqing said nothing, but a trace of gloom flashed across her face as she held the woman tighter. She gave a soft “Mhm.”
Su Yanshi closed her eyes: “Actually, my goal in acting was simple: money. No other reason. I had no capital or background; it was extremely hard when I first started. I constantly wondered if I’d taken the wrong path. When I started making money, I felt uneasy—suddenly having a large income in just a few months. I was afraid it was a dream, or that I’d lose everything with one mistake. I’ve been walking on eggshells for so long. Probably the craziest thing I’ve ever done is being with you.”
“My fans know I have a dating history, and they don’t object, but our status difference isn’t small. You’re different—you’re a member of the Bai family. I made up my mind the moment I agreed to kiss you. I’m not afraid.”
The Alpha’s hand was hidden under the covers; she guided Bai Biqing’s hand inside her clothes. She took the phone from the Beta’s hand and flipped over to sit on top of her. She licked her lips nervously, yet she possessed a different kind of charm. She swayed her waist slightly and opened her arms to Bai Biqing: “Teacher Bai, can we kiss?”
Bai Biqing’s answer was always: “Yes.”
They made love once, and it was already midnight. After showering again, both were sleepy. Su Yanshi hugged Bai Biqing, acting spoiled unconsciously. In her daze, she remembered something she hadn’t mentioned and patted the Beta’s waist: “Cui Xiaojiu is coming in a few days. To build her reputation, she’s making a special set visit.”
“Brother Nan said he didn’t dare mention it to you; he thought it would be awkward.”
Hearing “Cui Xiaojiu” made Bai Biqing sober up. She massaged Su Yanshi’s waist and gave a low “Mhm,” then promised softly: “Don’t worry, she won’t get away.”
They embraced each other, sleeping through the beautiful night known to all.
Cui Xiaojiu arrived five days later. The story of Three Times had pushed into the mid-to-late stages. Bai Yunyan and Jiang Yin were arguing more frequently; it was no longer a problem a single kiss could solve.
Su Yanshi’s rut had ended. The sober Alpha had spent a long time blushing before finally accepting the fact that she had been so clingy.
In the morning, she sat on the sofa eating the porridge Bai Biqing had prepared, sighing with a face full of sorrow: “Teacher Bai, I don’t want to see Cui Xiaojiu.”
Bai Biqing: “Then don’t see her.”
Su Yanshi finished the porridge in one gulp: “I still have to see her. Leave her some final dignity. Otherwise, how will I slap her face later?”
She wiped her mouth and sniffed the air in the room, feeling something was off. She suddenly said: “Teacher Bai, do you feel like your pheromone scent is fading? Is it because of the medicine?”
“Fading?” Bai Biqing frowned. She thought about it: “Probably not. That medicine is supposed to make it so no one can smell my pheromones.”
“Let’s go get a checkup someday.”
Dropping that sentence, she cleared the table and suddenly let out a “tsk”: “Come to think of it, I haven’t been as sensitive to your pheromones these past two days either.”
Su Yanshi’s eyes widened slightly as she said nervously: “Then what should we do? Maybe you should go to the hospital for an exam.”
Bai Biqing gave her a reassuring look and shook her head with a light laugh: “It’s fine. It won’t be too late to go after you wrap filming.”
“But—”
“No ‘buts’.” Bai Biqing lit up her phone screen and said sternly, “You need to get to the set.”
Su Yanshi instantly deflated and sighed helplessly: “Alright.”
Today’s scene was difficult. Su Yanshi and Hu Liyang tried twice but couldn’t enter the peak state. Director Liu told them to take a break.
The Alpha sat to the side, looking dejected. Bai Biqing didn’t disturb her; Su Yanshi wasn’t slow to get into character, but she couldn’t be forced. She held a water cup, her peripheral vision fixed on a spot. According to the schedule, Cui Xiaojiu was arriving, and she had notified the crew in advance.
After about three minutes, Su Yanshi slowly raised her head, her eyes full of gloom. She took the water cup and kept her head down, remaining silent. Just as Bai Biqing was about to squat down, she saw Cui Xiaojiu walking over ostentatiously.
Tsk, what bad timing.
Bai Biqing felt a surge of disgust and whispered urgently: “Cui Xiaojiu is here. Relax your expression.”
She stepped back, hiding to the side to watch carefully.
The name “Baishi” was famous, and since the CP with Su Yanshi was still hot, it wasn’t good to be seen.
Cui Xiaojiu was dressed spectacularly today in full designer wear with “fake no-makeup” makeup. A camera followed her, and she brought a lot of people to distribute food. The moment she saw Su Yanshi, she laughed exaggeratedly: “Yanshi, are you filming?”
Su Yanshi acted surprised with perfect timing: “Why are you here?”
“Did you come to see me?”
Cui Xiaojiu nodded, looking harmless: “I came to say hello to the people in the livestream.”
Su Yanshi sneered inwardly—classic Cui Xiaojiu, even thinking of the livestreaming method. She forced a smile: “Hello everyone, I’m Su Yanshi.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve discussed it with the crew; set visits are allowed,” Cui Xiaojiu said beamingly.
She hugged Su Yanshi’s arm, acting friendly.
Bai Biqing stood in the crowd, watching her coldly.
After livestreaming for nearly half an hour, Director Liu started hurrying them. Only then did Cui Xiaojiu end the stream. Once confirmed, Su Yanshi immediately pulled her arm back, not even bothering to give her a look.
Cui Xiaojiu sneered: “What, you think you’re special just because you’ve clung onto the Bai family’s legs?”
Su Yanshi didn’t even bother looking at her. she spoke bluntly, with undisguised mockery: “Yes, it’s much better than being a ‘Third’ like you, making a fool of yourself here.”
The Alpha aura instantly came out—why wouldn’t she take advantage of her girlfriend’s status?
She wasn’t stupid.
Cui Xiaojiu: “You…”
“You what? Did you not get enough of that slap last time? I don’t mind doing it again.”
Su Yanshi gave her a disdainful glance and walked away.
Cui Xiaojiu stomped her feet in anger. She had seen that interview and recognized the assistant that day was Baishi. According to an insider, this was the youngest daughter of the Bai family, Bai Biqing—top-tier in terms of status and power. She had offended someone serious.
Liu Sheng was acting strange—giving her plenty of resources, but his attitude had turned cold. She felt uneasy.
She was afraid Bai Biqing would do something disadvantageous.
A look of ruthlessness flashed across Cui Xiaojiu’s face. Everything good was being taken by Su Yanshi alone; she was not reconciled!
She turned to gather footage elsewhere, ignoring Bai Biqing who was staring at her.
Bai Biqing curled her lips into a smile. She toyed with her fingers casually, thinking the plan didn’t necessarily have to wait until filming wrapped. Unfortunately, some scenes of Three Times needed reshooting.
Cui Xiaojiu knew nothing of this. She walked out irritably and happened to run into Su Shang. Su Shang didn’t care to acknowledge her, turning her head away without hiding her disgust.
The Alpha couldn’t have missed it. She clenched her fingers and put on a fawning smile: “Teacher Su, long time no see.”
Su Shang pressed her tongue against her cheek. Suddenly, she became much gentler: “What do you want with me?”
Cui Xiaojiu looked at her in surprise: “I just wanted to say hello. I didn’t expect you to be here. Are you here to see Director Liu? You look very beautiful today.”
The Omega brushed her hair back: “Thanks, but I’m not here for Director Liu.”
Su Shang intentionally took two steps closer to her, her eyes full of provocation: “I’m here for Su Yanshi.”
The Omega opened her hands: “Your makeup is very light today; it’s not very pretty. Even if you’re a female Alpha, don’t try so hard to make yourself look delicate.”
Cui Xiaojiu’s fingers tightened silently. Her face didn’t show it as she maintained a peaceful expression. She didn’t expect Su Yanshi’s connections to be so broad. What could she do to completely turn the tables?
She couldn’t count on Liu Sheng anymore. Although she looked glorious now, she was on edge every day. The higher you climb, the harder you fall, and she couldn’t afford to lose the opportunity she’d worked so hard to get.
Seeing she didn’t speak, Su Shang didn’t want to linger. She was about to leave when Cui Xiaojiu suddenly called out: “Teacher Su.”
The Omega’s expression was flat: “What is it?”
Cui Xiaojiu smiled harmlessly: “Can I exchange contact information with you?”
Su Shang had been in the industry for a long time and had seen far more of the world than her. Faced with this scene, she didn’t panic at all. She walked over with her arms crossed and said pointedly: “What, you’ve taken a fancy to a lonely Omega like me?”
“Or do you want to switch to a new ‘sponsor’?”
Cui Xiaojiu didn’t expect to be called out directly. She replied without blushing or her heart skipping a beat: “What are you saying, Teacher Su? I didn’t mean that.”
Su Shang acted as if she’d heard a joke and sneered: “You know? If you had focused on acting, your development might have been better than it is now. Too bad—once a person takes the wrong path, they can never come back. Cui Xiaojiu, withdraw your pheromones.”
Her gaze suddenly turned fierce, her voice low: “Who do you think you’re messing with?”
Su Shang gave a fake smile and walked away without looking back.
Leaving Cui Xiaojiu standing there, staring at her assistant.
The Omega went to find Bai Biqing. The Beta was currently watching Su Yanshi act, holding a sketchbook. This single page was filled with sketches of Su Yanshi; no one knew when she’d prepared them. Su Shang didn’t make a sound, watching quietly.
In the shot—
Bai Yunyan sat before the easel, staring blankly at the scattered paint and tools. Jiang Yin’s face was red with anger.
Jiang Yin held up her phone, shoving messages in front of Bai Yunyan’s eyes. Her voice sounded like it was weeping blood, making one’s skin crawl: “Why are you still renewing the B&B? It’s been half a year! We’ve been together for half a year! You’re still thinking about leaving, aren’t you?”
She suddenly started laughing: “Bai Yunyan, you’re truly shameless. You’re the one who wanted me to take you away, and you’re the one who wants to leave. Tell me, what on earth am I supposed to do!”
Bai Yunyan said nothing. She wasn’t the one who renewed it—it was an automatic renewal for an online booking she’d set up back then for convenience, and she’d forgotten to turn it off.
She’d planned to ask the owner for a refund, but Jiang Yin found out. She suddenly felt powerless, not knowing how to explain. Two days ago Jiang Yin said she wanted a painting, and she’d finally found inspiration and the right feel over the last couple of days—it was supposed to be finished today—
Bai Yunyan looked at the shredded paper on the floor, a sense of self-loathing welling up. Both her relationships had been failures; she suddenly realized her changes couldn’t keep up with the deterioration of the relationship.
When Jiang Yin loved photography, she was full of hope for life, but now that they’d entered society, she’d become dejected, irritable, and short-tempered. The frequent arguments between them left them with less and less to say.
She squatted down, slowly picking up the scattered fragments, and said in a low voice: “I’m sorry.”
She suddenly realized that besides “I’m sorry,” she had nothing left to say.
“Cut!” Director Liu exhaled. “Very good, this take.”
Su Yanshi was still squatting on the ground, tears dripping down. She was clearly still in character. Hu Liyang knew about her and Bai Biqing, so she didn’t bother offering unnecessary comfort and just walked away.
Bai Biqing walked over and squatted down, pulling the quietly sobbing Su Yanshi into her arms. She coaxed: “Alright, alright, stop crying. Don’t your eyes hurt?”
The Alpha’s voice was hoarse: “Let’s not be like them. We can argue, but let’s not reach this point.”
“Okay?” She tugged at Bai Biqing’s sleeve, not daring to grip too tightly.
Bai Biqing gave a very soft “Mhm”: “It’s fine, don’t worry.”
Su Yanshi might have merged her own self with Bai Yunyan at this moment. With red eyes, she couldn’t get out of character for half an hour. Even sitting in the car, she was dazed, staring off with her legs curled up.
The Beta didn’t disturb her, letting her calm down in peace.
It wasn’t until they were in the parking lot that she mentioned: “Yanshi, Su Shang told me she wants us to move faster.”
Su Yanshi’s eyes moved. She lowered her legs: “What’s wrong?”
“Cui Xiaojiu might think Liu Sheng is useless now and wants to latch onto Su Shang. She even released pheromones, but unfortunately, she and Su Shang aren’t on the same level; her control over Omegas is weak.” Bai Biqing unscrewed a water bottle and handed it to her, turning to face Su Yanshi: “Feeling better?”
The Alpha took two sips: “Much better. I was too immersed in the scene today.”
Bai Biqing looked at her with curved eyes, as if she could never see enough. She exhaled lightly and asked: “Yanshi, are you particularly afraid that we’ll break up?”
“I feel that I—” Bai Biqing frowned slightly, struggling to find the words, “underrated your feelings for me, and overrated the sense of security I gave you.”
The Beta felt a rare sense of defeat and lowered her head: “I always felt that since we’ve only known each other for a few days, the feelings shouldn’t be too deep—at least that’s how I thought you felt about me. But these past few days I realized I was wrong. I thought I gave you enough security, but I suddenly found you’re still very afraid—afraid we’ll separate, afraid I’ll discard you.”
She raised her head, her eyes full of a tenderness unseen in the past. She leaned over and gently kissed Su Yanshi. Their foreheads rested together, their lips just a breath apart: “Can you tell me what I should do? Yanshi, I like you, I love you.”
“I didn’t think I was the type to say these things, but now I realize I want to tell you all about my love. You might not know, but you appeared in my life a long time ago.”
“Yanshi, no matter what my surname is, I belong to you.”
She pulled Su Yanshi closer, kissed the tears from her eyes, and said with a smile: “Dummy.”
“Only one Alpha can cure my illness; you are my medicine.”
Su Yanshi smiled. She hugged Bai Biqing tightly: “Please give me a little time, too. I will become more trusting of you.”
The Alpha never questioned Bai Biqing’s feelings—it felt as though everything was predestined. She was just worried about life pressures, worried that she would back down due to public opinion, family, or economy. But just as Bai Biqing said, she was dependent on Bai Biqing’s pheromones and the person herself; the high compatibility had already explained everything.
At some point, the Beta had moved to the back seat. Her hand reached into Su Yanshi’s clothes, kneading with force. Her kiss became intense, making the Alpha struggle to keep up. Watery traces hung from the corners of Su Yanshi’s mouth. She tilted her head back slightly, licking and biting the Beta’s neck.
Her fangs ground out several marks.
Bai Biqing didn’t stop her. She pinned Su Yanshi down, her movements becoming bolder, gradually exploring downward. The Alpha’s face was flushed as she tilted her head back; her beautiful neck was kissed over and over. Su Yanshi grabbed her hair as she moved down, letting out a muffled groan: “Slow down.”
The car rocked slightly. Bai Biqing wiped the moisture from her face with a tissue. Just as she was about to take her upstairs to continue, she received a call. She signaled for Su Yanshi to be quiet and listened silently to the report.
Her expression gradually became serious. Finally, Bai Biqing said through gritted teeth: “I understand. I’ll get back as soon as possible.”
The Beta looked down at Su Yanshi and explained apologetically: “Something happened at home; I have to go back. Sorry, I might not be able to wait until you wrap filming.”
Su Yanshi smoothed her hair and said softly: “It doesn’t matter. It’s only half a month; I can wait. As soon as things end here, I’ll go find you.”
